We had the Pho-Ries - you wouldn't think fries at a Pho place, but these are a surprise new addiction! My son and I had beef (he added meatballs), wife had veggie - which was very earthy and mushroom forward. My daughter was a little under the weather and had the chicken. All were fantastic. Spring Rolls did miss the mark for me - a bit bland including the sauce. Mango Iced Tea was refreshing (self-serve and you can sweeten yourself if you please). Hidden gem with unique asian cocktails and the best patio in louisville. I love this place. It's great for lunch and cocktails and bites at night. We visited Moondog on a Friday evening and were met with the lively sounds of the salsa music from the neighboring restaurant. The open floor plan and walk up counter had a menu board overhead outlining the offerings. My companion and I decided to try a few items for sharing. We had pan fried dumplings, lemongrass chicken noodle bowl and the Vietnamese curry, also with chicken. The counter service was efficient and my Thai tea was served quickly. He got the mango ice tea which was self serve. The dumplings were crispy and flavorful with an amazing dipping sauce. The curry was as expected and tasty. It had a side of rice. The start was the noodle bowl. The chicken was marinated and cooked perfectly and was very tender. The sauce, I forget the name was divine. Fresh veggies and herbs really made it complete. The location and ambiance was great. Cool little spot. Not a lot of seating but doesn't seem to be crowded much so there is no wait. There is also a parking lot that close to the building and parking on the street. I didn't think the food was spectacular. I have had better pho in the city. We got the beef pho and it didn't really have any flavor. I added a lot of spice and hoisin sauce to add flavor to it. The egg rolls were the best thing with the sweet and sour dipping sauce. We tried the fried chicken in fish sauce glaze. The sauce was good once you got past the smell, if you can. I will say the sauce was quite salty as well. It had a lot of soy sauce as the base and that added the salt. The soda machine also was our go CO2 so none of the drinks were good. I most likely will not come here again. I had been meaning to check out Moon Dog for a while, ever since I saw that it had changed from its previous business, Pho Ba Luu. So when I had the chance to order delivery, I gave it a go. I went with the garlic noodles, which have become a staple in my house. I make them at least once a month but have never ordered them from a restaurant. I was so excited when I saw this on the menu. And they were ... OK. They weren't bad but didn't have the big garlic flavor I was expecting. They reminded me more of lo mein noodles with a little extra garlic mixed in. I will probably order something different the next time I try them. I also got a Thai tea, which was exactly what I wanted. Overall, a decent meal. Really great late night (or any other time) spot. Most places close at 9-10 but they are open late so you can actually get something other than a burger or pizza in Lou. Their pho is great and their fries omfg GET THE FRIES they are so good and you get a huge portion and they are so addictive. Never had fries seasoned like that and it's just awesome. Also the place is so cute too. My only slight complaint are the tables on their patio. It's a great space but the tables are so hard to keep from spilling your drinks bc they are just kinda wonky but that's it. read more

MoonDog is one of the few places open after 10PM to grab a bite in the Nulu area, and it's a hit! We landed at the airport around 9AM and walked to MoonDog for a late night dinner. We ordered the Vietnamese Hot Chicken Banh Mi ($15) and the Lemongrass Chicken Noodle Bowl ($15) with an addition of 2 seafood & pork Vietnamese egg rolls ($2.50). Both items were so good and came out fast. The bread on the Banh Mi was crispy and the chicken had a mild spice to it. The vermicelli noodle bowl was my favorite - it had lots of chicken in it and the egg rolls were delicious! They have siracha, hoisin sauce and fish sauce in a fridge by the drinks for you to use to your liking. The open kitchen concept was cool and there is also a bar serving drinks. This was my first visit to Moondog since the rebrand, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The ambiance is very inviting as you walk in. I couldn't help but stare up at the ceiling while trying to navigate the tables and sidle up to the bar. After ordering a refeshing Pandan cocktail, it was time to look at the food menu. One thing I love about MoonDog (and its preceding name, Pho Ba Luu) is that the small plates and affordable prices make it easy to split a bunch of things. The spring rolls and wings were awesome, as usual. Even though it was hot outside, it was raining, so a curry bowl still felt appropriate. No regrets - it was awesome. As a final treat, I asked the bartender to make the same thing I saw him whip up for several others: his favorite cocktail. I don't know what all the ingredient are, but if you don't have an aversion to jager, make sure to ask. It was delicious! We will continue ordering mostly takeout from here, but I think the changes they made enhance the dining and drinking experience tenfold. I dined at Pho Ba Luu again, and still give a 3 star rating. When I arrived around noon there was no line at the counter so I was able to walk right up to order. I chose the lemongrass noodle bowl and added a spring roll to the bowl for $16+. Food is prepared in a line and most of the items are premade. I was surprised at the smaller portion of my meal. The chicken didn't have a lemongrass flavor and I could tell it had been prepared way in advance. The pickled items were the star of the dish. Soon as I walked in the restaurant the vibe and unique ambiance blew me away. It was really cool seeing decorations like that, and the name "Moon Dog" is being used right, they have an awesome dog board where they even take pictures of the dogs that come in and post them on the glass board, talk about amazing service. Now the food where do I start, I got the Pho-ries for an appetizer/side, and those are super tasty, perfectly cooked with the right crunch and seasoned to perfection I could eat them all day by themselves. I went with the Beef Pho, my go to! And I can't lie, it was pretty good! I just felt like it was missing one small ingredient to taste like the authentic Vietnamese restaurants but overall still good and flavorful and I'll definitely be back! We first went to Pho Ba Luu on our 2021 trip to Louisville because they had gluten free options, and who doesn't like pho? The food didn't wow me, but the food was solid and inexpensive -- $15 for a large bowl of pho which was very filling. (The majority of the menu is under $15.) What a sunny, colorful spot! Love the hanging lanterns -- if it would have been just a little warmer, would have sat outside on the charming patio. The food was fresh and delicious. (Not shown) they give you a rolled up brown bag with basil, fresh cut jalapeños and bean sprouts that you add on the top! Let me tell you - dump it all if you like that spice because they don't use punk jalapeños!!! Soooo good! The rice noodles were perfectly cooked as well. The place is very nice, staff is awesome and super sweet. It's quiet and nice to slurp in the deliciousness and have a good conversation. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!! Stopped at Pho Ba Luu as one of the few restaurants on the way and close to the Speed Museum. This is a "quasi fast food" restaurant in an industrial storefront where you order at the counter from their Vietnamese driven menu and it is delivered to your table. They have both indoor and outdoor seating options. Self-serve fountain drinks are available as a drink option with your meal. I ordered the grilled chicken noodle bowl with a crispy roll. The bowl was average. The fish sauce that they use was not very flavorful and the dry chicken and fresh salad portion was a wee small for $13. The crispy roll which you can also get as a starter was crispy but petite and not that good. The banh mi sandwiches though were reportedly good by my fellow lunch mates and probably would have been a better choice. I suspect the menu is prepared more for the American palate than the authenticity of the Vietnamese cuisine. Service was friendly and helpful, but limited to the counter people who took your order and the servers that delivered the food. Your order is executed within a reasonable amount of waiting time to when it gets delivered to your table. However, the food gets delivered piecemeal as it is ready rather than when the order is completely done. read more

Order at counter brought to the table. Poached tender chicken with perfectly cooked veggies, rice noodles in a tasty broth served with side Serrano chillies. Delicious Veggie fried dumplings cooked perfectly crisp with a sweet/ spicy dipping sauce. (4 per order). Noodle Bowl of grilled chicken with vermicelli noodles and crisp lemon grass, vegetables. Rice bowl of tender shrimp with shredded carrots, diced green onions. The rice texture was a type I hadn't had before. The dish was in need of some heat which a handy bottle of sriracha brought the dish together. With a satisfied hunger we found ourselves happy with go boxes in hand. Definitely recommend!
