If I could give Aleen 10 stars, I definitely would!! As if she needed to get busier, but it is probable the best place to get the finest results for your hair (Aleen is an expert when it comes to Asian hair to be specific!!) I've been to various high-end salons in LA, Berkeley and San Francisco thinking that the hefty prices will give my fine-lifeless hair some movement and volume but never reached such satisfaction until I had my mane done by Aleen! I came to this place twice and Aleen already treats me as a loyal customer. The second time, I had full highlights with haircut done. As I was observing Aleen did her work, I wondered if I was having babylights (yup, the newest hair color trend which refers to the fine and subtle highlights that mimics the sunkissed effect) for the price of full highlight. In fact, Aleen really took her time for multiple baby-fine section of hair around my head. And the result is truly EPIC!! I love how subtle and classy my hair color looks under both sunlight and indoor lightning. The color is so finely melted to my natural color and strategically placed that I would think I was born with this naturally beautiful hair! Aleen is great! I first went to Aleen for a digital perm a couple years ago and she did a great job. The digital perm process is a long one (about 3 hours) and Aleen was very attentive throughout. She was very good about explaining hair care afterwards and recommended a great serum to use to style my hair. I recently went back to Aleen for a hair cut and I loved it! She is great about checking if you like the length and such as she's cutting. On top of her awesome skills, she's also very sweet, personable and accommodating. I requested an appointment really last minute and she kept in touch with me as she was figuring things out with another client who was possibly canceling. The other client ended up canceling and she gave me the open spot. I really appreciated it! I ABSOLUTELY LOVE ALEEN!! Let me start off by telling you I have boring asian hair. Very fine and thin and you absolutely cant do anything with it. Anyway, I was looking to get a haircut to trim off my split ends. I was browsing yelp when I found Aleen. I read a few reviews and decided to give her a call. Getting an appointment was a little hard because shes so popular. I had to wait 2 weeks but boy was it worth it. When I arrived Aleen was super friendly and started right away. She sat me down and asked me specifically what I wanted to do. She also made sure to ask how many inches I was willing to cut off. Most places ask but really dont care and go chopping away. Aleen asks what you want, gives suggestions, and ultimately only cuts off what you request. Washing my hair and cutting it took about an hour. I wasn't complaining because she took her time and was talking me through what she was doing and why. She layered my hair a little because its so fine and it wouldnt be weighed down. It's about time I wrote a review here for Aleen. I started going to her several years ago when she was working out of a salon in the Inner Sunset. Over the years I've tried a few barbers and other folks here and there, but she does a much better job in my opinion. She doesn't use electric clippers and does a scissors over comb cut. Also takes into account your head shape and does that sectioning thing where she separates your hair into quadrants when she cuts it. For guys this is important because she doesn't cut it all to the same length so when it grows out it doesn't grow out all over the place like it might with a barber. If I go get a bad cut I usually want to go get another cut about 3 weeks later, but when Aleen handles the biz I usually end up not getting a cut for 6-7 weeks because it grows out pretty well and actually looks better after some grow out time. I don't think she cuts a lot of guys' hair these days, so I'm glad I found her a few years ago. read more

After searching for a decently priced, local Daly City hairdresser, I'm glad I consulted Yelp to find Aleen. Scheduling the appointment was convenient. I left a message on her machine, and she called me back right away to schedule my appointment. I got a haircut from Aleen the other day, and I am really liking my shorter, lighter cut that she gave me. I came in with very long black hair, and she only charged me $45 for wash, cut, and style. She really massages your scalp when she washes your hair. After, she consults you about what you want, then meticulously cuts your hair, constantly checking to make sure everything looks even. She spent an hour on my hair, layering it to make it lighter. She had another client waiting, which I felt bad about, but she really took her time. I had to wait about 10 minutes as well, so just keep in mind that she really takes her time with clients. If you have to wait, just means she'll spend time on you, too :) Parking was a bit awkward - you can park in the lot down the street from the salon, but I had no problems. read more

Aleen was amazing. She was able to look at the shape of my face and the characteristics of my hair and give me a haircut that has been getting so many compliments. More than the amazing stylist that she is though, she is a much more amazing person. When it was time to pay, I tipped her an amount I thought she deserved. She said "OH NO! That is too much!" and then erased the amount and wrote an amount that was much smaller than what I wanted to give. She does what she loves because she loves it, and it shows. Aleen is an artist with both cut and color. Aleen has been cutting, coloring and styling my hair for 2 years.She's great with color and highlights. My color always looks good and totally natural. Aleen is also incredibly sweet and honest. Truly, I think she cares about your hair as much as you do. She took me from red to brunette and back to red without damaging my hair. I ABSOLUTELY ADORE THIS LADY! While working my ON CALL shift for the hospital, I stupidly decided to get a haircut... So Monday afternoon around 11:30am, I called or an appointment, hoping she can squeeze me in. She answered right away and scheduled the hair treatment and cut that I wanted at 2pm. Half an hour in, after my hair was washed and wrapped up nicely under the heated machine for 10 minutes... I got called into the hospital. Aleen is very knowledgeable about hair. I usually like to get my hair cut short enough to last a month. This usually means that the first week after the haircut will generally be awkward. The trick is to create enough texture in the hair for it to grow out and look nice after about a week or two. Not an easy task but Aleen know what she is doing and is able to do this quite well. I rushed home after getting my haircut just so I could yelp about Aleen. She is amazing! How do I love thee? Let me count the ways... 1. When I called on Monday, Aleen picked up and scheduled me in right away for Wednesday. 2. When I got to the location (which is a bit ghetto just to warn you), Aleen was with another customer but quickly turned off the blow dryer just to greet me and let me know she'd be with me. [Note: you can find parking in the lot nearby as well] 3. I did have to wait about 15 minutes before she got to me, but I like reading magazines so I didn't mind. Listening to her conversation with her client and then with me after let me know she offers wonderful suggestions to everyone! 4. Aleen is such an expert. Even during the wash, she already told me my scalp was oily but my hair was too try and suggested a different shampoo. Aleen also gave me tips on how to condition my hair. During the haircut, she took the time to listen and see for herself that I didn't have the typical straight Asian hair. It's a bit coarse so it can be frizzy after a wash but straight after a day. Aleen knew exactly how to cut and shape my hair. What was different was even though she washed my hair, she blew dry it before she cut it so she could see what form my dry hair naturally took. Hallelujah! How come other hairstylists don't do this?! Other places I've been to always cut my hair wet and it looks completely different after my hair dries. After an hour of snipping, this is by far the best haircut I've had. I will be back for sure! read more

I am definitely a loyal fan of Aleen and her hair-cutting skills (thanks to a dear friend's recommendation)! I am so happy for her that she's finally opened her own salon! I've followed her from two previous salons in San Francisco's Sunset District, and she's always been extremely kind, generous, and accommodating! So far I've had 3 haircuts with her (each at different salons). The first time I had a haircut from her at 10th Avenue Salon in San Francisco. I had previously gotten a bad cut from the Style Lounge in Davis, CA; because my friend raved about her skills, I basically told Aleen I trust her and let her do what she will with my hair. Aleen patiently tried as hard as she could to fix the damage and ended up doing an amazing job! She also gave me great tips on how to properly clean my hair to avoid excess oil near the scalp and dry ends at the tips, which brand shampoos/conditioners/products would be good for my specific hair type/needs, and even gave me a free sample of Noevir's skincare (skin line set 99, which I still use today!). Not surprisingly, Aleen is also trained in skincare and could tell right away from seeing my face what I'd need to do to improve it. The second time I had a haircut from her was at another salon in the Sunset District (I can't remember the salon's name; it was only a block or two away from 10th Avenue Salon near the Radio Shack on Irving Street). She once again gave me a beautiful cut. For returning to her for my haircut, she charged me half price ($25) instead of full. I didn't have cash on me at the time, so she asked me to come see her again when she opens her new salon and let me go free of charge for my cut! I was so touched by her generosity that I knew I had to go back to her again for another cut. The third time I had a haircut from her was at her Elements Salon. I loved how clean and open the space was. Parking was a breeze since meters were right outside her salon ($0.25 per half hour, an unbelievable rate compared to San Francisco's meters!). I told Aleen that I was graduating college in a month and let her know my concerns about keeping my hair's length. Once again, she did an amazing job and even proposed how I could cut my hair next time to improve my overall look based on my face shape and hair length. She also gave me tips and demonstrated how I give myself light, bouncy curls for graduation. I only wish now that I went to school closer to Elements Salon so she could prep and style my hair for my graduation ceremony! It's been a blessing finding a hair stylist like Aleen that truly cares about improving your overall look (from the top of your head to your hair ends) and has the skill to actually implement those improvements! Saw aleen today! She is a fantastic hair dresser! My hair turned out great! She gave me good tips for shampoo and hair products. She is professional indeed! I have to cancel out my other hairdresser for her,sorry but my regular hairdresser is not as good as her. She will also tell you what hair flatters your features which is a plus. My color prior to getting it done was a dull, burnt yellow, and brownish color. I'm really particular with my hair and Aleen nails it with the color and cut. Aleen is awesome! I got a digital perm and I love it!! My first ever digital perm and the first perm that I've had in over 15 years. I did not like my last experience and thought I'd never get a perm again but I was wrong. Aleen is super friendly and very attentive and very knowledgeable. I did not really have a particular style in mind (when I usually do) and I told her I just wanted something to make me look good and de-emphasize my round full face. I searched around for a good stylist to give me a good digital perm and I picked her because she I live close by, her ratings are high and she offered a yelp deal. By the way, if you don't want to buy the Yelp deal, I think she also offers $25 off if you "Check-In". I forgot which app but I saw it somewhere. Probably a minimum purchase of $75 too. I hadn't had anything done to my hair in a long while so she cut my hair first before perming it. After all these years, I finally found a stylist that I am truly happy with. Aleen is AWESOME! I first found Aleen thru Yelp when I searched for places for hair straightening. I called Aleen and she was very friendly and asked me to come in for a free consultation. During the consultation, she brought to my attenttion that my hair was very dry and damaged from previous treatments and that she didn't feel comfortable applying more chemicals to my hair at that time. I felt that Aleen is very geniune and actually cares about your hair whereas other places would just proceed on with the treatment without any regards just for the $$$. After her advice, I decided to hold off on straightening my hair until I get my hair back to healthy shape! I started doing oil treatments and managed to hold off for 3 more months before doing the hair straightening treatment. The whole process took about 5 hours and it turned out very well! Aleen was very patient during the whole process and didn't miss a strand. Aleen is very knowledgeable in hair straightening treatments and digital perms. In addition, she only uses top notch products such as Yuko brand for japanese hair straightening. I highly recommend Aleen for any types of hair treatments!
