When I came in, I felt at ease. Hiro asked for what I wanted, and I showed him examples. My hair was an uneven blonde balayage before, and Hiro really took his time to even it out and tone it. I showed the owner a picture of what I wanted the curls and the hairstyle to look like. I always thought it was our responsibility to tell the hairstylist instead of let them improvise. I waited almost an hour. I had to tell them the rollers were too hot. I had to tell them the timer went off. Unsurprisingly, my hair was fried. At the end, I was told to go with the wet hair so that the curls would stay. It doesn't look remotely like the picture I showed. I understand the hair in the picture was styled with a lot of products, but my curls looked like I did it myself. I am never going again. I need to remember that.

I was really hesitant when my friend suggested Chi, but I figured, might as well. I've been going back to Chi ever since and I like her better than my old stylist. She is the kind of person that pays attention to details. I asked for a lot of layers, and she took her time, and gave me exactly what I wanted. As she's working, you can tell how focused she is in her work. She knows how to style your hair in a way that matches with your facial structure. I've gotten plenty of compliments on my hair since I started coming to Chi. Also, Chi is super sweet and accommodating. You can tell she's busy because she is always booked full whenever you try to make an appointment with her. However, she will always do her best to move her schedule around in order to fit you in.

I had always gone to Tony and Guy for my $80 cuts or uptown for my $75 cuts. I've gotten my hair done by the #1 hairstylist in Taipei. When I go to Houston, I get my hair done by this award winning stylist. A few years ago, my sister finally convinced me to go to Chi since this place was much closer to my home and she charges less than half of what I usually pay for. My sister lives in Austin and comes back to Dallas to get her hair done by Chi. For cuts: Chi isn't as good as the award winning stylist in taiwan or houston.....but she's just as good or even better than the ones in uptown and tony & guy. I am extremely happy with my hair cuts every single time I visit her. And her service is extremely affordable and she is SUPER super sweet. I usually get my hair tapered on the side with a razor cut. She is extremely good with hair styles: prom, wedding, and special occasion up, down, and halfway dos. Most of my friends and their entire wedding parties get their hair done by her. I love the princess look- half up and half down. I asked her to do that for me and at the wedding, all the girls came up and loved my hair. One girl even said: I've been in about 5 weddings and seen soo many princess half do versions, your hair is the MOST perfect version i've ever seen. who did your hair? I handed chi's number out to 10 girls that night. 50% of the time, she runs about 15-30 minutes late. That's only because her clients run late, which makes her run late. She is honest and never pushes my hair to the point where it becomes damaged. I always leave extremely satisfied and with my hair still feeling healthy, no matter how many times she bleaches it. I am, however, guilty for putting a lot of heat on my hair, and she is always happy to recommend treatments and products to get my hair back to feeling silky soft. She does a beautiful job of blending on my balayage highlights. I've been to many, many hair dressers, and have never encountered anyone with the excellent instincts that Abby displayed from the very start. Abby granted my wish-- making my very dark-brown, somewhat gray hair SCREAMING purple. Though we had to bleach first, I literally left with healthier hair than I came with. And though she could have charged me a LOT more to do my roots on my second visit, she recommended I wait (to keep my hair healthy) and found a deeper purple shade that I not only loved, but which blends perfectly with my roots. The thing with Abby is that she is not shy about telling you the truth. If she thinks you are about to make a mistake, she will tell you, whether it's picking a hair color that's wrong for your skin tone, a haircut that is unflattering, a process that is not healthy, etc. But this goes the other way too-- she comes up with amazing ideas for her clients that are artistic and creative. For example, I happened to mention that I've always wanted a pixie cut, but my last experience getting one was a disaster (i.e. the stylist didn't listen to me and did what she wanted anyway, which I ended up HATING). Abby got a mischievous glint in her eye and asked if I still wanted to do something like that. After she explained what she had in mind (a modified pixie that would frame my face and work with my natural curl), I was more than convinced. It came out even better than I imagined -- I get compliments on it from friends, family, acquaintances, total strangers, constantly! So, if you're looking for a stylist/colorist that will mindlessly do whatever you ask, take the fastest/easiest route, endlessly tries to shove product at you, and treats you like a number, then DON'T go to Abby. But if you want a talented, warm, hilarious, professional that will take the time to get to know you, understand your wants, needs and challenges, thoroughly explain everything that will happen (risks and benefits) and use every bit of her decades of experience to create a style that will blow your mind, then definitely GO TO ABBY!
