I'm late in posting, I got my haircut over a month ago. I absolutely loved it and for weeks I kept getting compliments on it. I showed Amanda pictures of the style I wanted and she cut every strand perfectly to frame my face. Positive experience, I messaged the business the day before hoping there was an opening and luckily there was an opening she could take me in. Washed, cut, blow dry in about 45 minutes and about $50 for my hair cut. I asked for a long bob, bangs cleaned up and I got exactly what I wanted. Would definitely recommend to my friends. Thanks Amanda! Second time here! Amanda's amazing and made my hair look amazing. Washed, cut, blow dried in an hour flat. $40 total plus tip. Can't wait to get my hair cut again! Obsessed with my hair cut and she knew just what to do for my hair type. Thanks again! Third time here(I think, can't keep track anymore). My previous haircut with Amanda was a dramatic long bob which I was obsessed with, I came back this time for a less dramatic lob. I've known Amanda for a lot of years! We moved away and we lost touch. Recently found my way back to her when I needed some hair remediation. She's GREAT with color. She loves the crazy colors that are popular now, but she's also good with more natural colors in all the conventional applications as well as more interesting techniques. She'll also explain what the process is and what you need to think about as far as maintaining your color choice. She also does great haircuts. I appreciate that while she has a more eccentric personal taste, she doesn't impose it on anyone else. But she's also always up for making a change or something out of the ordinary. (I've had hair dressers be too scared to make a big change because they didn't want to risk an adverse response and therefore they never did what I was asking). Her prices are reasonable and easy to understand. She's great with kids and husbands too! read more

This is the only salon I trust to tuch my hair. Amanda is AMAZING and this salon is the best hidden gem in north dallas. When you tell her to do something, or ask for something specific on your hair, she LISTENS. if you say, half an inch, she will cut half an inch (unlike a lot of salons that tend to not really listen and cut off around 4 inches). I am very strict on my hair and i asked her to not even brush my hair (im really strict) and she listened and respected my request which i totally loved. This is also a great place to go if you are looking for an 'edgy' haircut, if you bring in a photo or just say what you want she will work her magic and do exactly what you want and then some. Its also great for just a trim or a regular haircut. Her salon is so cool looking and Amanda is halarious and keeps the salon experience un-awkward and fabulous. I hesitate to write this review as I truly respect peoples lively hood. But after consideration and urging of friends, family, co-workers or pretty much anyone who saw my hair after visiting Amanda at "Hair Junkie", I decided to let others know how bad my experience was. I was hopeful to find a new stylist as I am the mother of young twins and my current hairdresser is far away. First, Amanda is really unprofessional, like smoking cigarets during your appointment then working on your hair with smelly cigaret fingers. I could've easily overlooked this had my hair turned out halfway decent. My requests were very simple, a few blondish highlights and a trim. What I got were large, yellow, brassy, spotted, bleached pieces (along with breakage). When I expressed my concern she said, "oh, I think it will be fine!". I continued to express concern so she put a toner on it. At this point I had been there for nearly 3-1/2 hours. She clearly wanted to end her day and sent me on my way with damp hair. The next morning I realized the extent of the damage..I texted her along with a photo to let her know my dissatisfaction. She responded with total flippant rudeness and an offer to "fix" my hair. She texted me later apologizing and offering to refund half of the (whopping) $160.00 I spent on a partial highlight and a trim. I had to pay another stylist $90.00 to repair my hair. My stylist was taken back by the shoddy work that was done on my hair. So, if you are even remotely picky about your hair I would think twice about going to "Hair Junkie". 2/13/15 - IN RESPONSE: Fact 1 - My hair is now chemically burned and breaking off near the scalp. Fact 2- I had NO prior damage or breakage before visiting Amanda at "Hair Junkie". Fact 3- These photos were taken after my hair has been trimmed twice in an attempt to remove the extensive damage. I suppose it was a "miscommunication". I should have been clear that I did not want my hair chemically burned off. Do not go here. She is not a good hair dresser. read more

I found Amanda through Yelp -- I am EXTREMELY picky about my hair and the Hair Junkie worked her magic and took my flat, uneven, lifeless locks and gave me back my beautiful, shiny, bouncy hair! The layers are perfect - I can style it straight and it doesn't look like I have two bookshelves on the back of my head (some stylists cut very obvious layers) or I can curl it and have bouncy curls that blend perfectly. She uses great products, doesn't push to upsell you on stuff you don't need and, icing on the top: she is an amazing person who is so much fun to talk to! I won't let anyone else touch my hair. I life in Frisco and work in Dallas, so Richardson is out of the way for me, but the side trip is totally worth it! I had been sick for ten days and just didn't have the energy to fuss with my hair OR to drive across town to the salon I'd been going to for the last year. Got on yelp and found Amanda. When I figured out she's about a five minute drive from my house that was all I needed. so I thought, why not? She was direct, to the point, and "all business" on the phone and didn't chat me up but I wasn't calling a friend, I was making an appointment, so who cares, right? A little over a year ago I'd decided that at my age, I wasn't fooling anyone so I wanted to let my gray grow in and my highlights grow out. I left a stylist I'd been using for years because she just could NOT let go of coloring my hair. After reading how good Amanda is with color, I was afraid she'd push me to color it but when I told her what I wanted to do, she said. "Well, why not, you've earned that gray!" That was just the FIRST thing she did that I liked. She did exactly what I asked her to do and by the time I left, I'd learned that AMANDA HAS MAD SKILLS WITH SCISSORS AND A BLOW DRYER. BEST CUT AND BLOW OUT I'D HAD IN 20 YEARS. Plus, I'm no spring chicken and really enjoyed Amanda's youthful energy. Her enthusiasm for life and for her work makes ME feel young again. Went back today to make sure the first visit wasn't just a fluke and now I am hooked on the Hair Junkie. So...bottom line is AS LONG AS SHE'S SOMEWHERE IN THE METROPLEX, I'LL FOLLOW HER ANYWHERE. I met Amanda many years ago, through my husband who worked with her husband. I waited a long time before approaching her, since I'm a very picky person when it comes to my hair. But, I didn't have any problem trusting Amanda with my hair the first time I sat in her chair, she performed "magic" when she showed me that I could go from a blonde to a brunette. She's got fantastic talent and she really knows her stuff. I was truly amazed at her level of knowledge when it came to the correct way that my hair responds to different styles!
