After multiple failed one-off visits to non-Asian salons in San Diego, I finally found someone who not only can handle my thick hair, but also makes suitable recommendations based on my face shape. So far, I've trusted Young with 2 haircuts of differing lengths and 1 perm & I couldn't be happier. Since I don't spend a lot of time on my hair, Young provided a few lazy girl approved drying/upkeep/styling tips that fit my lifestyle. Young is really responsive when I reach out for booking; when I am in the seat at the salon, she uses the down time to call/follow up on upcoming appointments and ensuring her clients are finding their way (and parking) okay. I'm so glad I don't have to keep looking for a stylist in San Diego anymore. Side bar- I've overheard other clients state that they are actually wanting a perm when they only booked a haircut. While I understand plans change, it was rather rude and entitled of the client to admit that even though they booked a haircut, they would like a perm only now. He explained that he cut his own hair prior to the appointment and then spent additional time in the seat to find an inspo photo to properly relay what he wanted. I found Young and decided to give her a call. The first time I called she was booked for the day so I called back the following week and was able to make an appointment for that weekend. Service was great. She was super nice. It was a Sunday and she took my son and I for a double appointment. There was no one else inside, but Young. Our appointment took about 3 hours. My son got a perm and he loves it, so no problem there! I wanted a lighter brown than what I got, but maybe stylists see dark brown differently. (My former hairstylist is closed from July-September) so had to find a new one to get my whites covered up. I think she dyed my hair black, but others do see the dark brown.....I don't. She did a great job cutting and styling my hair so I can't complain. Small parking lot, so peak times it can get pretty busy since they share the lot with a lot of eatery's. I wasn't going to write this review since I didn't have a good experience, but I feel inclined to share so others know what to expect. I'm new to the area and I found Young on Yelp. I called her to schedule an appt to color my roots and white hair, and for my husband's haircut. I recently had a baby and asked her if it was okay to color my hair to which she replied it shouldn't be a problem. I get my roots colored every month, and I've been coloring my hair for years now. I knew something was off when she started caking the product directly onto my scalp. She told me to wait until the product set in and proceeded to cut my husband's hair. My scalp started burning and I politely asked her to rinse the dye as soon as possible. She took me to the shampoo area and told me to wait until some of the color set in before shampooing my hair. I asked her what brand she uses since this had never happened before. She told me she uses Redken and worriedly admitted to using too much. I reassured her that it was okay, it might also be because my scalp might be more sensitive postpartum. She told me would dry it after and I told her it was okay. I didn't want her to touch my hair after what happened and my scalp was very sensitive. She finished cutting my husband's hair which came out decent at most. She quoted $45 for men's cut and $80 for a root touch up when I first called to schedule. Then she quoted $90 when I got there. I asked her how much it would be after we were done considering I had a bad reaction to the product and the way it was applied, none of my white hairs got colored since we had to take product in less than 15 minutes after it was applied, and she didn't do anything else except rinsing it off. She told me she would only charge $60 for the product and her shampoo fee. I paid $105 + tip before leaving. I'm writing this review because after this appt, my hair is super damaged. I get my hair done every month and I've never had a negative reaction to any color products in the past. My hair has never been this damaged from my monthly root coloring sessions, it feels dry and brittle similar to the aftermath of when I bleached my hair a long time ago. The product she uses is not salon quality and I had swelling and redness on my scalp for a few days after. I'm disappointed with the way she handled the situation and I will not be returning. FYI- the Redken color gloss was $20 at most online for a 2 fl oz bottle which means she charges $40 for her shampoo fee. lol read more

First time here -- Very unprofessional service. She scheduled me at 6pm for a cut and color over the phone. I noticed her closing time was 6pm and asked if I should come earlier, in which she told me to just come at 6. When I got there, she told me she didn't have time to dye my hair which requires as it bleaching(it doesn't). My daughter wanted red underlights. From the moment we walked the vibe was very welcoming. She was walking another customer out and her hair was super cute. Since I'm new to the area, I asked a friend for her hair stylist and she referred me to Young who she always go to for her haircuts and colors. I called the number on Yelp and was able to make an appointment really quickly! It's located in between the Convoy Liquor and Chon Ju Jip in the Convoy Center on Convoy St in Kearny Mesa. There's a parking lot with ample stalls. There was another hair stylist in the shop that shares the space with Young. I was the last client for Young yet there were still a TON of people in the little shop either getting their hair done or waiting for their turn. My appointment was at 4:30pm. I arrived about an hour early (no idea why LOL) and there were still two more clients in front of me. Turns out Young was a little behind, so I didn't actually start getting my hair cut until around 5pm which was totally fine as she seemed very busy. When it was my turn, I showed her a picture of an A line style (long in the front and shorter on the back). I wanted to get out of my long hair era and wanted to be prepared for the summer. And Young did an amazing job! I loved the haircut she gave me! It actually brought out my features which could be a hit or miss when it comes to a very short haircut. I originally hoped for a shoulder length cut, but she accidentally cut it a little too much #whoops. But hair can grow! I actually loved how my previous highlights still showed on my new hair style.
