I have to say reading the recent reviews, I was a little nervous about getting my hair cut at Gina's but I'd gone to her for 4 years. I was quite disappointed when I had a similar experience to some of the more recent reviewers. She missed the mark with my haircut and when I tried to point out how choppy it looked, she got very emotional and defensive. Also she kept answering her phone during the cut which made me wonder if she was even paying attention and maybe that's why it looked so messy. After she got upset, instead of trying to work with me to fix it, she said she didn't want to keep cutting and I was like you want me to leave with this cut? Luckily she trimmed off some length so it didn't look quite as bad. However it was just an unpleasant experience. I was sorry since I'd always thought of her as a good reliable stylist. Not sure if something is going on but I hope she is able to take some time and get back to who she used to be - much easier and pleasant to work with and left me with a good haircut read more

This is the second time I went to Gina. My experience both times were very pleasant. I can express my concerns and preferences to her without feeling rushed. She makes an effort to understand what I need and not want. So we decided to go with low lights (her suggestions during my first visit) and I needed root touch up and hair cut. All together was $100 before tips. Where can you get that deal? She took her time with my hair. After she finished with the root touch up and low lights, she noticed my hair was a little dry so she started saturating conditioner into the strands. In my mind, I was hoping to have it conditioned, so I was very pleased when she proceeded to do so-it's like she read my mind or she just do it because there's a need for it. After haircut and blow dry, she asked me if I wanted curls in my hair. I nodded and said yes! She took her time curling my hair. It looks so bouncy and soft! I'm very happy with the results! I will definitely go back. Finally, I found a stylist that I like in San Diego. Also, there is another Japanese stylist. She was very nice. She speaks Japanese too so she had some Japanese clients there. She helped blow dry my hair. She was very gentle. I saw her cut a boy's hair and it looked very cute. She took a break and came back with Korean sushi. And she offered me some! I was so happy since I have been there for a few hours and was starving. Overall, the vibe of this salon is very good. I will tell all my girlfriends about this place. But I'm sure they will notice my hair when they see me. read more

I have been going to Gina since this August and I am a very happy customer. My thick, coarse Korean hair is not easy to cut but Gina does fabulous job with my hair. I have been going back three times already and I plan to go back. I recommend making appointment before you go. Gina is not chatty but she's friendly and professional. She took time with me every time to make sure I'm happy with my $30 hair cut. I'm so happy I found her because I have been having some unfortunate incidents with my hair ever since I lost my hair guy, Chris. You just show her a picture of the look you're going for and she delivers! She starts off my washing your hair and gives a glorious massage, sending you to a state of happiness and bliss. Then she cuts your hair wet. She then dries your hair and cuts it a second time dry! She has amazing hand skills that are precise and meticulous. Must Read: Gina & I were friends and I used to get my hair done by her often. Things went downhill when I had a problem getting to my scheduled appointment because of a flat tire. I contacted Gina & told her my situation as well as my Estimated Time of Arrival. I got to the salon accordingly to the time I promised I would arrive. When I got there, she chose to work with someone else and made me wait 30 minutes until she worked with me. Rather than understanding the troubles I faced, she yelled at me in the salon in front of everyone when I asked why she chose to work with someone else when I got there. I disregarded it because she was my friend. While she was doing my hair, she began to yell at one of her workers and kicked her out of the salon in front of everyone. While Gina was having an emotional meltdown, she severely damaged my hair due to being irresponsible fighting with her employee and left the hair color dye on my scalp untreated for 7-10 minutes longer than her alarm clock was set for. The reason why she left my hair untreated was because she decided to work on someone else's hair at the same time as she was working with mine. When she washed and dried my hair, a lot of my hair began to fall out and I asked her why this is happening. She proceeded to tell me that "this is normal don't worry." Gina then used a variety of products to hide the severity of the damage on my scalp and the hair loss I had from her work. At the end of my appointment, she aggressively demanded a tip from me, despite this abhorrent experience and service. Days later, I saw how much hair I lost and called her to tell her about this. I also sent her photos of the damage on my scalp to provide proof of her mediocre work. This resulted in her yelling at me again and telling me to never come to her salon, rather than her taking accountability for her performance and shameful behavior in front of her clients and to her workers. Being that her and I were friends, I know about some of her self-inflicted personal issues that led to her erratic behavior, but this is inexcusable and I must disclose my experience so other people understand that this is going on. read more

This review is for a hair perm, only. I do not recommend coming here for a regular perm. I spent $150 for my hair to be have poofiness added--this is not what I wanted. I waited 2 days to wash my hair, so it wasn't that. I have had my hair permed 4 times before, and it did curl. Actually, they also used twice as many curlers, whereas here it seemed Gina was trying to save on time and energy and bunched my hair into as few rollers. Seemed like a lazy approach. Not satisfactory work! She might be good at haircuts or other things, but not a perm. Save yourself from heartache and wasting money on bad results for a perm--find a better hair salon. read more

Absolutely love the Japanese digital perm by Gina. I was so lucky to find a great salon to do some fixing up before my boyfriend's sister's wedding, and he gave me a perm an gel nails as a gift. Gina did a beautiful job on the digital perm, I am so happy with the beautiful soft curls and the tips she have me for styling it easily at home with my fingers and blow dry. I've been going to Gina since I was in my early teens, Gina definitely knows what she's doing! I can trust her 100% with my hair - and ladies, we know that's a huge commitment.
