Travina is amazing!!! I had not been to a professional hair stylist in three years... I've pretty much cut it myself for fear of people no knowing to to cut curly hair. She worked wonders on my flat, uneven, and kinda sad-looking hair. I walked out of that salon a whole new woman. For those of you who complain about the price, please understand that schooling for so many different textures and types of haircuts is more expensive than your average straight hair stylist. If you don't like her prices then you can go to supercuts and walk out with the crusty haircut you deserve. She started with a dry cut to see how my layers would fall, and double checked that I liked my shape. then she washed and styled my hair and it felt like a 100$ scalp massage, so relaxing and peaceful. her salon is small and just for one client at a time so you really feel like you are being pampered and like it's a private experience. The only downside to Travina being so amazing is now I have to figure out how to pay rent in San Diego for the next sixty years because I can never go to anyone else! read more

I know that it might be odd that I posted directions but this location is a bit tricky to find and hope this helps others!! I'm so soooo HAPPY!!! I did a long search online to attempt to identify a place that can do and specifically lists mixed hair skills. Additionally, I didn't want to break the bank! I have had a lifetime of misinformation, unhelpful and confusing 'guidance' combined with repeated failure to properly trim my hair! Forget styling! I couldn't get that far. As a result, my hair was a hot mess but was worse than I was aware! It WAS broken, dead and damaged! Travina was a bit late, however, she called me with updates and i had left my day open just because I wanted to dedicate self care time and life happens! A padded bench was available so I just read. The location has a number of shops, a contemporary museum, bank and places to eat within walking distance. Parking is limited because it's La Jolla and one disabled space is available. When Travina arrived, loads of positive energy exuded from her so much so that I forgot that she was late!! She immediately recalled what I had asked her including wheelchair accessibility even though I didn't have my wheelchair with me, she still remembered. She didn't dive into my hair straight away. She asked about my concerns and what I want. She gently touched my hair and scalp. She didn't tell me the bad news immediately but gently asked questions and than gave me the bad news! I could feel that she was being honest and upfront. Despite the fact that my hair needed to be chopped off, she asked me what i was comfortable with. She asked several times to make sure I was okay with her suggestions along with my needs. She taught me so many things that I needed to take notes! I asked her lots of questions and learned the most I ever learned about my hair and what is needed! She's very positive and encouraging. She took personal interest in me as a person and we had a great conversation. Her hair washing was so gentle and relaxing. I left feeling beautiful, happy as a clam and pleased that I finally found the place and most importantly, the person with the skills!! Based on my perusing several websites, her prices are fair for a upscale salon. It's helpful that she has 2 locators and addresses your needs as a individual! Im looking forward to healthy tresses and also satisfied that Travina openly shares tips based on her expertise and the clients needs, not based on capitalism, that is suppressing information and only recommending the most expensive services. Hey, we need to make a living and Covid has been very damaging but Travina still chargers acceptable prices, doesn't create pressure to pay for her services and provides ample hair care management that may reduce her profits!! I already feel loyalty and plan to stay with her! I had to drop by my pharmacy and already recommended her to one of the biracial pharmacy techs who complimented me on my freshly styled beautiful haircut! Despite needing the majority of my hair chopped off, she still gave me a beautiful style! If you read all of this review, I'm impressed!! Lol. I would have loved to leave a good review because the results from other clients here look great. However, the customer service I received was lacking. I was not even able to schedule an appointment. I called Monday and she picked up and sounded distracted, and asked if she could call me back in a few mins - no problem at all. I was busy for a few hours and realized she never called back so decided to call again. She picked up and I mentioned that I was calling again from earlier - she said she was leaving church and would call me back in 10 mins, and if she didn't then to call back - again, no problem, I understand being busy. I gave it an hour (because I'm also not just sitting by waiting for the phone) - no call. I tried calling one more time and this time it went to voicemail so I left a message asking her to call me back when she had a chance. This was all on Monday. Tuesday afternoon rolls by and I've still yet to receive a call back. I try calling one last time and again it goes to voicemail. As a last ditch attempt I submitted a request on Tuesday through Yelp for an appointment - it's now Wednesday and I still haven't heard anything. It seems like bringing in new clients isn't a priority, which is a bummer because I was looking forward to getting my hair done based on other reviews and photos. Attempted to book an appointment for a haircut for my wedding. She kept on pushing back or changing the appointment date. Once we finally settled an appointment date and time, she wasn't even there. YOU WILL REGRET GOING TO HER!!!! DO NOT GET YOUR HAIR DONE HERE!!!! This was the worst hair cut experience in my entire life, this girl is HORRIBLE!!! First off, she showed up 25 minutes late. Then we had a "consultation" where she asked what I wanted out of this hair cut, and I said "I do not want to cut more than an inch, I am looking for .5-1 inch MAX" and repeated that about 4 times. Then she just chopping away AND CUT OFF ALL MY HAIR!! She cut off about 5-7 inches and added sooo many layers, then proceeded to add SOO much product in my hair, I am talking hand fulls of gel! Then I said a comment about how my hair was really short and she said "it was needed" THEN IT GETS WORSE, I finish with my hair above my shoulders looking so bad I was legit embarrassed to walk in public, and SHE CHARGES ME $140!!!!!!!!!!!!! My hair is coily curly and in the shape of a Bob, but grown out a bit. I went in for a consultation 2 weeks before my scheduled haircut just to make sure (Travina) the stylist does a dry cut to get the shape right. She advised that her price for a cut was $140 which I thought was really high but anyone who has curly hair knows how hard it is to find a stylist that can cut it correctly. I show up for my appointment at 3:30 and she is finishing up with a client. She takes me in 25 minutes after my scheduled appointment at 3:55. I needed to leave by 5:00 to p/u my son at 5:30. I assumed 1.5 hours was plenty of time to trim my hair, however we started late. The plan is to trim my hair, wash it, pull it out (comb) and diffuse it, then trim the rogue coils. By the time she washes my hair, it's nearly 5:00. I let her know I absolutely have to leave by 5:15. Travina put a lot of product in my hair, which is not a big deal but it took longer to diffuse. By 5:15 it wasn't dry yet. I told her I had to go and asked if I could come back in the next couple of days for her to take care of the rogue coils. She of course agreed and asked me to send her pics of my hair once I washed it and styled it with my own products the next day so she could see what it look like, and where it needed additional trimming. I sent her pics the following morning and we scheduled a follow up appointment for two days later on Sunday at 10:45. I had to leave Sunday afternoon out of town for a conference for a week. I show up at 10:40am and the front door to the Phoenix salon was locked. A code is needed to enter. I sent her a text and let her know that I'm out front and the door is locked. No response. At 10:50 another female shows up and enters the code to the building and I follow her in. I sit outside Travina's salon waiting. At 11:05 she text me "OMG sorry, just woke up". Of course this is upsetting because I have no idea how long it will take her to get there and I don't live in the area where her salon is located. I text her back and let her know that I have to go b/c I have a lot of things to do today before I leave town in the afternoon. No response whatsoever after that. Now, I was ok with the haircut. I wasn't thrilled with having to come back a second time b/c we started late but I get it, apptmts run late sometimes. What I'm not ok with is paying $140 plus tip for a haircut and the stylist sleeping through my follow up apptmt and not having the decency to try to make amens for it. Just left Travina and TS Curls with my daughter and wanted to get this review in before I got busy and forgot. Travina was AMAZING!! Patient and truly seemed concerned about my daughter's hair and how to make the most of her curls. The only cuts my daughter has had have been when she has donated 12+ inches, and she's never really had a true cut and style. Travina spent close to 3 hours and cut off a ton of her damaged and frizzy hair, but left it just as thick with beautiful ringlets. The cost was very reasonable for the amount of work and styling tips she gave us, we will most definitely be back, my daughter is ECSTATIC and so am I! My daughter has been trying to embrace her curly hair. We called Travina Sunday morning for a last minute Deva cut. I have done my research and was not surprised by the cost for first time clients to curly hair stylists. $140 may seem like a lot but she spent nearly 3 hours working on my daughters hair. This included a deep conditioning treatment and what felt like a curl by curl sculpting. The curls and shape turned out beautiful and we are happy with the results. All that being said; She was 1hr 45 min late for our appt.( a previous client added elements that added time). Her lack of communication was irksome. She came off as kind of a free spirit and may have been a little stoned. While I don't find that very professional I cannot argue with the results. Though we were pretty mad about our time being seemingly unimportant I will probably go back to her for my hair but now I know what to expect and will roll with it. PARKING COME EARLY so you have enough time to find parking. Parking in this popular La Jolla area can be challenging. There are max 2 hour parking on the surrounding streets; and that's if you find parking. Otherwise there is a public parking garage two blocks away if you don't mind the short walk. ATM/WELLS FARGO There's an Wells Fargo bank conveniently located across the street from the building so if you need to manage funds or get cash, it' right there. SALON The building entrance may be easy to miss so once you're in front of the building, the door sign reads "P~ Salon". Go through that door, and you'll take the stairs or elevators to the salon floors. TS Curls is an independent studio where there's other stylists, estheticians, etc with their individual studios as well. Once you walk out of the stairway/elevators, TS Curls door is immediate; you'll see it to the left or right depending on if you took the stairs or elevator. The salon is quaint, comfortable, clean/neat, and there's chocolate/candy and magazines for clients. WINNING. She has two locations, this one in La Jolla and the other in Spring Valley. LOCATION There's plenty of boutiques, shops, restaurants and such around so before or after your haircut, you can make the most of it and enjoy La Jolla. Oh, and the beach is right there too, ha! TRAVINA Ms. Travina is professional, skilled, has A LOT of curly hair experience, has deva cut training, and is just a sweet person. I am particular about people's energies and how I feel with them next to me and touching me, especially my hair. Let's just say, I fell asleep three to four times while Travina was doing my hair as she was gentle and has a calm soothing vibe to her. She also plays pandora so when there's a good song we both started singing to it :) HAIRCUT I'm VERY happy with my deva cut. She uses hair products that includes Deva chan and Moxie (sulfate, paraben, and other toxic-free) Travina was observant and sampled products on my hair to see how it will respond and take it in, then made a determination of which product to fully use. I NEVER write reviews, but felt like I should this time so other curly girls can avoid at ALL COST. For $140 dollars you can absolutely find someone more qualified. I went to get a haircut here before getting a protective style and am just noticing how AWFUL this haircut is. I am embarrassed to wear my hair out. I thought because she had curly hair she'd understand but honestly, this is the worst haircut I've ever gotten. I am completely DEVASTATED because I had long beautiful curls and just wanted a trim. It's long in the most awkward places (not sure what she was trying to do) and it's cut uneven at the bottom. This is my very first review; I felt inclined to share my unfortunate experience with Travina at TS Curls salon. I have curly hair and was looking for a Deva specialist to shape my curls, I came across her page and enjoyed the before and after pics she posts. So I decided to give her a try. When I arrived at the salon ON TIME she was not there. Doors were locked and lights were out. I sent her a message and she advised that she decided to go for a walk and would return to the salon. Ok, no big deal but why would a professional decide to take a stroll when they are expecting a client? Whatever. My curls were slaying prior to entering to salon, I was actually only expecting a trim. But she decided to wash it and I thought what the heck?! She'll probably do a better job than me. Wrong! She slopped the Deva products on my head, did not apply them evenly and didn't even tend to my roots. I walked out of her salon looking worst than I arrived! It was literally embarrassing! Additionally, she charged $140 for this epic fail and when I asked her what the breakdown of charges were she couldn't even articulate it! Instead stated that she charges all her new clients at flat $140 fee. Which honestly, I wouldn't mind paying for quality work but she knew good damn well that her work on my hair was far from quality and I can prove it. I am very choosy with who I allow to style my hair. However, the minute I went in for a consultation with Travina I instantly felt comfortable and knew I was in good hands. The hairstyle I wanted to achieve was hard because I naturally have pretty dark hair and I really wanted a blonde ombre that would compliment my curls while still maintaining the health of my curls. Travina managed to get me to my desired hair color while making my hair look healthier than when I originally came in. I'm still not sure how she managed to do that but let me just say she takes pride in her work and you will walk out of her salon with all of your expectations exceeded and with a little more confidence in your step. Pretty disappointed in the service I received this weekend. I did not receive the address to the salon until 30 minutes before my set appt. I arrived on time but T was about 20 minutes late. I sat in her chair for about 10 minutes while she cut my hair and I had expected and hoped for a wash and style but due to COVID she said she was not washing clients at the moment. I wouldn't have been upset about that if the price has been cheaper. But I spent $140 for her to not only be late, but spend barely any time on my hair, not wash it and send me on my way looking crazy. I found Travina on Yelp but funny thing is I had a business card of hers already so it just happened to be fate! I've never had my hair cut or colored professionally and I had major damage. She gave me the cutest cut to get rid of all my dead ends while still keeping most of the length I asked for. I had no idea what color I wanted so we went with highlights but she's inspired me to go bold! Take her advice and have fun with the colors! She's only one woman so don't expect to be her only client the entire time. People need to relax about having to wait....beauty takes time and you're not the only female in the world so get over it and expect to wait! Don't catch this chick on the weekend... We walked up to the place to check it out and met a lady waiting with her 8 year old son to get his very curly hair cut and donated. The mom told me they had been waiting for Travina for over 1.5 hours and she kept stringing them along texting "Ill be there soon". As we are talking, Travina shows up seemingly drunk or on drugs. She could hardly complete a sentence. Red Flag. Being the adventure seeker I am, I thought I'd come back and go through with my haircut. I also really wanted it done that day and nothing else was open. I came back at the time we agreed on and waited another hour. As she kept popping out in the waiting room to keep me around. I had long hair that I wanted to donate, then just a regular men's haircut. She asked to see a picture, which I showed her, and she said "Oh, that's easy". 10 minutes later it's like she had no idea what she was doing with my hair. SHE RUINED THE HAIR I WANTED TO DONATE - She literally put it in a loose pony tail and cut the whole thing off wasting like 7-8 inches of good hair. Then she basically said she doesn't know how to cut straight hair and said she had no clippers for a mens haircut. What happened to " Oh, that's easy" ?!?! I've been natural for almost four years. Travina was the first stylist who was able to cut my hair into a shape that is flattering. She just knows what she's doing. It's a comfort to find someone who you don't have to explain the curly hair journey to, or how you don't use combs to get through your hair. I rarely color my hair because it never works out. The few times I did try, the color just turns pumpkin orange or brass. In my 15 years of color experimenting, Travina is the ONLY one who could make it pop and glow and not orange. True curly hair professional. No appointment is too long or too short. She's there to make sure your hair is on point and that you're in love. I have never quite had a haircut like hers before, she really takes her time to understand your curl type first and the miracle is she gets it! She doesn't try to sell you on anything you just aren't interested by encourages healthy and beautiful looking hair. Yes, she is on the more expensive side of things but frankly her quality is worth it. What I appreciate is honesty and she gives me that.
