I've been coming to Hair Capital for a long time. Kevin is my go to for a precise and lays perfectly haircut. My hair is rather stiff and thick so you can't just take a pair of scissors and cut across then say okay, done. It needs to be done in layers with the under layers cut the shortest so that when my hair sit naturally the ends do not curl up. I've been to dozens and dozens of hair stylist over the years and most are just mediocre. Some are downright in experienced and lazy because doing layer cuts on straight long hair takes time. I could not believe I given a review to a hair salon mainly for girl. During our vacation trip, my wife has decided to have a stop to cut her hair when we at Atlanta. She like oriental hair dresser who understand the orient style. We went shopping around this plaza and we have discover this hair salon. We decided to ask for the price and the wait time. She went in the first time and the wait is 20 minutes. The cut is $35. So she went to get the pastry. I ask her if she going to cut her hair. She said the wait is a bit long. So I ask her to go in and ask again. The counter said there is an opening. As a result we have her hair done. She end up with the very skill hair dresser. His skill is exquisite. After getting my hair damaged by Jeff at @ hair salon up in Duluth, I was kinda scared of changing up my hair color for a year. But I've always wanted ash blonde hair, so I'm always looking up where ppl got their hair colored. When I saw my Yelp friend Michelle's color, I was like " I want your hair color! Where did you get it done?" Michelle was very helpful and shared her stylist info with me. So I reached out to the salon and asked to make an appointment with Lan. After speaking with Lan briefly on the phone and told her what I wanted, I got her cell number so I can txt her my current damaged hair. Also, confirmed our appointment twice ( I saw other ppl's experience of not getting acknowledged with appointments, I wanted to make sure I don't go there and wait 2 hours before she can work on my hair). On the day of the appointment, we discussed what color I wanted and what needs to be done. Then all I did was sitting there and waiting for Lan to work her magic. After 6 hours, my hair was transformed! I was super happy about the result! Girls. If you're Asian and want to dye your hair, definitely go to see Lan! Highly recommend her! So my family has been going to this store for about 15 years now. During that time. I've only ever let anyone besides Lan cut my hair twice. And those were some desperate situations where she was out of the country for a few months and I had events to go to. Everyone does a great job but she is my absolute favorite. Even both of my parents and my older sister go to her. I know some people make appointments with her and still end up waiting over an hour to be seen. Personally, I've waited over an hour and I've also been seen as soon as I walk in. It really just depends on the day you go. She's in high demand and you have to understand that she will get backed up with work. The entire store can get super jam packed on weekends as well. Anyways, I started getting a fade from her in the last two or so years when I was having a hard time with my look. I'm an Asian American guy with curly, thick black hair so it's always been a pain in the butt to style right. At one point I just told her to do whatever made me look best and she didn't disappoint. I've always gotten a ton of compliments on how clean, professional, and young I look ever since I let her just do what she wants. I'm super loyal to her and this store but I gave it a 4/5 because the wait times can get super bad from overbooking. If it's jam packed, everyone will be rushed and your haircut might not turn out exactly the way you want it. I've never had a butchered experience but there have been times where I wish more time was spent on me to make sure the cut was perfect. So my recommendation is to make appointments early and during the week instead of waiting for the weekends. read more

I drive 20 minutes just to go to this hair salon. They are busy sometime and if you are a walk-in, you can wait for awhile when they are busy. I will call ahead just to make sure they have openings before driving there. Last I heard, they are planning to implement a appointment system which will help them a lot. Lan is wonderful and does a great job with Asian hair. She speaks English well too for those that have concerns about conveying what you want. She does coloring and cuts. This is my third visit here and it still never disappoints! My first visit was ages ago, but my second visit was last summer (2022) and I had Andy cut my hair for me. He gave me a layered and face-framing-inspired haircut and I absolutely loved it! Today marked my third visit and he did terrific as per usual. I showed him inspiration pictures, but also said that he could do whatever he thinks would look nice on me! I'm very happy with my recent visits to at Hair Capital. Maintaining blonde highlights isn't easy, especially if your hair is dark brown, practically black but Lan has done a great job. She also continues to cut my hair in a very flattering way so I'm able to get away with letting it grow out, every 3 months or so. I enjoy my visits here and the service is exactly what I expect and more. The staff is friendly and the shampoo girls don't slack and give great scalp massages. Reasonable hair cut and color prices. For haircuts, I recommend requesting the owner. For color, Chi did a good job with the blonde balayage which took 4 hours, but don't expect conversation and great service. In addition, when I wanted to go back the 2nd time, she quoted me a higher price for the same work so I decided not to go back. In addition, they pressure you to pay cash when there is no sign at the front requiring you to pay cash when there is clearly a credit card machine. I think this is a very misleading practice. Had I not had luckily had cash on me for the haircut, they would have forced me to go to the ATM and come back to pay. Had they informed me of cash only prior to service or even had a sign up, I would have respected that. Therefore, I don't believe service was great here and would rather pay higher elsewhere. read more

Came to here to have my roots touched up for bleaching. I had an ashe blonde ombre and wanted to turn it into an ashe blonde balayage. My hair was very healthy before with no breakage, but after this session, I did notice quite some breakage on my face framing area and the most bottom layer of my hair. the stylist's assistant was in a rush when pulling the foils out of my hair and ripped out a bunch rather than carefully unravelling each foil. My hair also had a blue/green tint for about 3 weeks, which I don't mind too much as it as changed to a more natural looking color now. read more

I'm very careful and picky with my hair. Especially because it is naturally black, and long all the way to my hips. However, I had recently had some color in my hair that gave my hair a brassy tint, so I wanted to get it corrected. After careful research and debating for a few months, I finally decided to drive from Florida to Atlanta to get my hair done at Hair Capital (while visiting friends and family). I am beyond satisfied. Chi Lan colored my hair and did a phenomenal job. It usually takes 5-7 hours to color my hair because of thickness and length, but she was able to do it in less time, and I got beautiful results. The staff is wonderful and pleasant. This is a long overdue review. I've been to Hair Capital twice, first for a haircut and second time for color. Both times my stylist was Perry. He was really nice but didn't really communicate well in English. But that's fine with me. I showed him a picture of what I wanted and he was able to replicate it. Though he did cut it a bit shorter than I wanted. He didn't really converse with me much, which is fine with. I actually prefer my hairstylist to not be too chatty. The reason I'm giving this place only 3 stars is because they put a deceiving sign that their credit card machine does not work. It does work, they just prefer cash. And that really annoys me. I asked Perry if I could pay with a card and he said yes. As I was handing my card to the lady, she pointed the sign to me. Then I told her that I thought I could pay with a card, she then turns to Perry and asks him how much my total was and when he said it was $150, she accepted my card. That's very deceiving and bad customer service. Typical Asian establishments that refuse to pay the extra card fee. Just don't have a card machine then so you don't have to lie to your customers. read more

After reading a number of reviews for this place, I decided to give it a try. I'm only here in Atlanta for a couple of months and I needed to get my hair done for the winter. I also prefer to have stylists who know Asian hair, so what better way than to get it done by an Asian-centric salon. (Not saying non-Asians can't do Asian hair...) So I asked for Lan specifically since I've seen she's done such great coloring. I needed balayage and a haircut. Lan was gracious enough to give her opinion when I asked to do my color in Rose gold, and she talked me out of it but gave me a great alternative color. She did a great job, but I'm docking it a star since all in all I'd been in the chairs for 5 hours! I've had more work done for less amount of time. I get that they're always busy, but half of the time I'd been waiting to get a seat as LAN would jump from client to client. I feel she has way too many clients to handle. Also in my past experiences with balayage, never had I had foil used in this technique that doesn't call for it. So in my opinion, this was any old standard way of highlighting hair. And I docked another star towards the end. When I walked into the salon, I saw the sign saying their machine is broken. So I asked one of the stylists and she merely smiled and just told me to pay LAN, without explaining if the machine was working or not. Also Lan originally quoted me $195 before she went to work on me. When I went to pay at the end, the desk lady asked me if I had cash. And I told her no and that I asked originally asked about the machine but no one confirmed it. So she proceeded to charge my card an extra $10 without explaining why. I explained that LAN quoted me less and asked why was I being charged more. The lady proceeded to ask for payment. Don't know if it's a language barrier, but at that point I started to feel cheated. So unfortunately I was forced to dock $10 off LAN's tip. I'm sorry, but it's bad business to quote someone one thing, only to charge them more after with no explanation. read more

I was so bored of my black hair and wanted to go lighter. She was able to do everything in just one session. She gave me so much more depth to my hair and on top of that was extremely nice. A lot of my friends come here and recommended Lan specifically. I ended up with her by chance and she was amazing! Lan made sure she understood the length and style I wanted and checked the length after everything she did. She checked after finishing the initial cut, after drying, and had me stand up at the end to check again. I really appreciated how thorough and precise she was. She is quick and knows what she's doing. Only downside is that they have a sign that says the credit card machine is broken. As always, please be extra careful as the drivers on BuHi are unbelievably clueless! I walked in without an appointment on a Saturday afternoon. No wait, a guy asked me to come to the station and get started. Had my hair shampooed, and then he asked what I wanted. The fading was well done, good texture on top. There is a clear difference in skill level between how the staff here cuts and thins out Asian hair v. conventional places like Great Clips or even higher end ITP salons. It's like second nature here, and rightfully so as a large majority of the clients I saw inside were Asian. So for me, this works out well. My stylist didn't rush me, but still worked quickly and efficiently. All in all, it only cost $20 for the cut and shampoo. Yes, they do take card. I am giving my girl, Chi Lan, 5 stars! Chi Lan just knows what you need. I have been going to her for 5 years now. When I first moved to Atlanta, I tried so many salons (Toni & Friends, Aveda, etc). My cousins came to visit one weekend, and they took me to Hair Capital. The wait was super long, but eventually Chi Lan, came to get me. I didn't have an appointment with her or anything. I would call this moment, fate. She cut my hair that one day, and I was hooked. She is stylish, and she speaks English. Thank Goodness. I usually have long hair down to mid back. Then, one summer, I got the courage to do short short (the Rihanna Umbrella look). Anyway, I had faith in Chi Lan, and she did right by me. She spent so much time on it to make sure it was perfect before I left the salon. The hubby was needless to say, Wowed! I've recommended her to several friends who in turn have recommended her to their friends, and I can honestly say, they all give her 5 stars. read more

This was my first time at hair capital as I was having very meh haircuts from my usual salon. I did not go in with a stylist in mind and just asked for whoever was available. I didn't catch the guy's name, but I think it was David(?); he has an arm sleeve tattoo. He took his time with my haircut, which was very nice as others typically rush and are done in 10 minutes. Although the haircut didn't turn out as the U shape as we discussed, I still like it and enjoyed my experience with him as the hair stylist. I also had a wash and this is why I knocked off a star. There was one specific woman in the back talking to the lady washing my hair. The woman spoke Cantonese while pointing at me and talking about how long my haircut would take a long time, etc, etc. It was rude and I felt very uncomfortable with her finger in my face as I'm trying to get my hair washed. Things you should know about this place: 1. It's chaotic. Most of the negative reviews here are about the service/appointments, and I have to say that I don't think anyone wrote down my appointment or knew that I was coming. You kind of have to just show up at an off hour and be prepared to wait. Call ahead, but know that there are no guarantees. 2. It's a great value. At least compared to the non-Asian salons I've been to in Cobb county, where they spend more time on the blow-out than anything else and charge an arm and a leg for a trim. I got a double process color (balayage) plus a haircut from Lan for under $150. 3. Lan is a color expert. Trust the photos here -- they were the reason that I drove 35 minutes, with a weird feeling that I didn't have an appointment, to get my hair done in "Asian Plaza." She's especially good with longer hair, ombre, balayage and the younger-oriented color trends you'll see featured on Instagram. She'll be working on several people at once (which makes sense), but anything other than a single process color will take time anyway. Bottom Line: Despite the chaos, it was totally worth it to come here for color and I walked out after 3 hours feeling absolutely gorgeous. The cut isn't the central focus (at least for Lan), but the styling is on point and the prices are fair. You can't get a better haircut for $16. There's never a wait because their employees are lined up like a taxi stand just waiting for the next customer. I've been here twice and each time I got a reasonable haircut without using clippers. I used to pay double that amount when I would have it done in Midtown. It cracks me up that they have a framed sign that simply says "Machine is Down" to discourage you from using a credit card. Sometimes they let you swipe. This shop wasn't the only hair place on Buford, but it looked the busiest (and therefore the most popular), so I went in. It's unghetto inside, unusual for this part of town. There's a nice goldfish tank in the waiting area. Haircuts for me are hit or miss. No matter how much I try to explain what I want, no matter how many pictures I show them, my hair never comes out exactly like I want. That's okay, because the stylists here always seem to make my hair look pretty good. I never get the same stylist twice. This place gets bonus points because it's next to 99 Ranch. At first I assume she was busy with other Clinics but after an hour they basically forgot all about me and didn't even bother to tell LAN I had an appointment with her. Finally found my go-to hair salon!! I'm an African American woman and I recently moved to the area last year. Like so many others, it's been such a pain to find a good hair stylist. I liken it to finding a suitable mate! I found this place through my nail technician at Nouvelle (awesome nail salon btw) and she advised I book an appointment with Lan. And boy am I glad that I did! I initially went to Lan to fix a bad hair cut that I'd recieved from another salon. I didn't even have to tell her where the mistakes were. She knew exactly what needed to be done. I've been hooked ever since! I'd never gotten color in my hair, but trusted her to give me highlights and she did a marvelous job. My hair looks exactly like the photo I showed her on my phone. She's kind and not overly talkative as I've experienced in other salons (I'm an introvert :) silence doesn't bother me) I can't speak on the other stylists and hope I never have to leave Lan's chair to experience anyone else :) Advice: If you can book your initial appointment via a visit to the shop, I'd strongly advise that you do so. The only bad experience I had was when I booked my second appointment over the phone and when I got there they didn't have record of the appointment. So I had to wait a ridiculous amount of time because they were very busy that day for some reason. Since then I ALWAYS book my appointments while I'm in the salon and Lan herself puts it in the book. And I haven't had an issue since. Finally, I love the fact that she's ready when I get there. I go directly back to hair washing and she only works on 1 person at a time (except for when I got the highlights and she cut 1 guy's hair while my color set. No issue). That's very important to me because I like to be in and out. So many salons and stylists have you sitting there while they work on 4 different people at one time...running around like headless chickens! No thank you. The 1 issue with the booking, and the fact that the salon does not do relaxers is the ONLY reason I'm not giving 5 stars. Go with Lan. You won't be sorry. ...hope this was helpful. Got color hidden red and black to cover some grey hair, a trim, shampoo and a blow-out, the total bill came up to $150, still I think it's fair. Love this new style I got.
