His technical approach is unique and demonstrates high-level skill: For medium length on top, he moves away from rote sectioning (holding hair between fingers). Instead, he combs along and against the grain to gauge the natural fall, cuts using a freehand sculpting technique, and thoroughly cross-checks. We asked to cover up my dad's hairline (he came with averagely long hair) and they cut it very short and it is not even able to be covered with hair. First off, I have a very coarse beard with sensitive skin. Worst combination for a shave... That being said... This is the 5th barbershop I've tried, hoping to find one that really knows how to give straight razor shaves. I'm used to the really awesome ones in the small towns of New York. A lot of the other barbershops they had crappy razors that were a rough shave. These guys use high quality blades. You even get a nice head massage, really good after shave balm that's top notch, and nice hot towels. As soon as I walked in they Were very welcoming. It's very nice inside and clean. Nice flat screen TVs too. They'll even change the channel for you. I got John or Jon, not sure. They really treat you well here. Great attention to detail. I walking to the shop and after sitting there for 20min they asked me if I have an appointment or not, And I said no because they just recently require appointment and before it even you wanted to get an appointment you couldn't do it. Worst haircut experience I've ever had. The barber did listen to me and what I requested. Will never go again and do not recommend.

It's sad to see that my last haircut here before moving away was the worst. Honestly, Trieu's been my go-to spot for the last 2 years in the area, but this last haircut was really horrific. My barber was busy today so decided to give the last guy a try due to time constraint. Told my man to trim a bit off the top, and he proceeds to take off 3/4 of it. Before the words "stop" came out of my mouth, the deed was done. With that being said, place is 4-5 normally due to the price, the convenience, and overall quality of haircut. Tips: Stick to one barber that you like because if you jump around it's hit or miss. Stay away from the guy at the very end. read more

This barber shop is ridiculous. I had long hair and wanted to do a stylish short-medium haircut. I've described briefly what I want and even showed the picture of the haircut that I want. The barber didn't ask me any question, cut off my tail and started to use hair trimmer for about 80% of a haircut time. He didn't ask me to show him the picture again or what kind of length I wanted. I've started to feel that he cuts it too short, and made a point. The worst part is there is no way you can see what they are doing with your hair, because you are turned away from the mirror. The process too less than 10-15 minutes, and in the end I looked at myself in the mirror and was shocked. This was my shortest in time and WORST HAIRCUT IN MY LIFE. I asked the barber what the hell was that and if he liked what he saw himself. Apparently, HE DIND"T LIKE HIS OWN JOB. He said: "No, I don't like it". When I asked him again why did he do it to me, and if there is any way to fix this, he went into silence mode and cut two micro-inches off, from here and there. I turned my sign to other barbers with hope. they were numb, pretending that they do some other stuff... that they don't seem to notice the problem or worse - the client complain. No one said anything. No one gave a solution or whatever... After some time and another remark of mine, that I don't like the haircut, even after the gel was put on and etc, barber just took the cloth off me, showing me that he would rather be silent and hopeless, than help me to get what I came for - a good haircut. The length he left me with it's either looking like an idiot or shaving it bold. if you want to do a military-style haircut - it's definitely your place. If you want any style - nope. I've been coming here for a couple of years now and finally found a good barber. My brother had to retire from cutting my hair because he ended up getting married and moved in with his wife. The barbershop is your standard barbershop located down the road from the Mosaic. There is complimentary Wi-Fi and water for those waiting in line to receive their haircut along with many TVs to watch the news, sports, or even cartoon shows for the kids. The place is kept clean and the barbers working there are kind and will always greet you when you walk in. Make sure you have cash ready because this place only takes cash/check and nothing else. They do have an ATM inside if you need to pull cash out. After reading all the reviews here about Vinny, I knew I had to give him a try. I've been going to Vinny I must say I am very impressed with how Vinny cuts my hair. He takes his job very seriously and will provide great consultation regarding your hair. His taper and fade work is flawless and I always receive compliments from people about my hair. The hair transition is smooth and you will not notice an uneven pattern of hair in his fades or tapers. Make sure you communicate what you want to Vinny before the haircut so he can visualize how the haircut will look. He will definitely add his input to what you request but don't take offense to it -- he's just trying to make his own personal suggestions in what will work in the long run in terms of hair maintenance. The other barbers are good as well from what I've heard. Trieu is definitely a good pick if you decide to go with him. If you do go for Vinny or Trieu (they seem to be the most popular picks), be ready to wait in line for them. I've been going to Trieu's for close to 12 years. Always friendly environment. I always ask for a full trim with a tapered back which goes back to my days in the military service. I have a preference for female Asian barbers ever since my time in the service in South Korea years ago. This time my barber was Kim who was very nice and we had some conversation as she cut my hair. She did an excellent job and quite quickly since everyone, all 5 barbers, were fully schedule booked and working to maintain appointments. I was in right on schedule at noon and out shortly after 12:30. May 30, 2020 was only the 2nd day reopened and when I booked online the schedule was already about 50% full through 1 June. Since I posted an average, or below average, review for an experience I had with a barber in this area, I thought I'd post one for a very good place that I have now consistently used for some time. The cuts here are very good and inexpensive for the quality of the experience/cut. Note that this is a classic guys barber shop, so I'm not sure if this would be the same experience/cut for a lady. I've used more than one barber here and they've all payed attention to detail, but it's never seemed like a long time in the chair. Every cut ends with the straight blade shave on the back of the neck using warm shaving cream and a hot towel. If you're a guy and you don't go to a classic shop that does that, you may be doing it wrong. A few more notes you'll want: cash only, no appointment necessary, during peak hours on a Saturday/Sunday there may be a few minutes wait, but it's never long or drawn out, never had any issue with parking (some places in the past I've used have had this issue because of their location). read more

Looking for a barber in the area as my husband decided to extend his no shave November and was in desperate need of a haircut I found this barbershop had amazing reviews so I suggested he go here. Despite a longer drive than his usual place and a bit of anxiety about going to a new place (he has had bad experiences plus has a bad cowlick and an unruly beard) he raved about his experience with Kim. He was greeted upon entry and taken care of shortly after his arrival. He was impressed that Kim cut his hair by hand vs simply using clippers. Also was glad this was a barbershop worthy of bring called a barbershop. While he was impressed with the experience I was incredibly impressed by the results. I went to several different shops around the area the first couple of months after living here even though they were further from me than Trieu's barbershop and while none of them were terrible, they weren't great either, so I decided to give Trieu's a shot and I was amazed at how went it went, I came in and was greeted by Vinny and showed him a photo of what I was looking to get and he nailed the haircut exactly as I wanted. Perfect mid skin fade blend and a natural lineup. Only barbershop I've been back to several times since moving. I used to be a regular here. My co-worker originally suggested this place, and we finally went after our shift ended to get our hair cut here, and I was recommended Kim. She was very quiet, and friendly. I'm usually not that fond of small talk, but Kim was completely fine with not saying anything after she noticed I didn't say anything either. I guess we met at an impasse? Kim is fine as is without saying anything, and has done a great job of finishing the final touches by using a brush to personally get rid of any extra hair around my neck. She was very cautious, but also alert as to how she performed her job. She was exceptional! Unfortunately, since I was getting the same hair cut the four times I went there, I started to notice something. Kim didn't really seem to cut my hair any differently than I asked her, even when I said something entirely new! I was very disappointed, because I know she's very skilled, and this review is nothing against Trieu's Barber shop, none at all! I just wasn't impressed with the fact she wasn't able to accommodate the nifty hair styles I was interested in trying out. Its a shame, because everyone there is friendly. The parking lot is never full, and the TVs when you sit down in front is perfect for your viewing pleasure. Who knows? For the price, this place is really good! I've been to a lot of barber shops, and this place did not disappoint. My hair is usually cut by Vinny himself or when he's not there I go to the lady in the end of the shop. They are both very good at what they do. They listen well and Vinny is a really down to earth guy. You can feel comfortable telling him how you want your hair cut, or anything in general!. Hair Style I get:I I usually get a fohawk cut and fade in the sides. Recently I've switched over to a more natural comb over look and Vinny have been working with me as my hair grows out (Just gotta let him know and he'll help you out!). They also gel your hair as well (I usually accept the offer just to see new hair products and if I like them enough I'll switch over. Never hurt to try!). Note* If you go on the weekends, you will see a lot of people there so just be aware of that. Also Vinny usually have someone waiting on him during the weekends whenever I was there. As other have mentioned remember to bring cash since it is cash only. They have an ATM there or the laundromat 2 doors down is another option. They are really nice people, one time a kid (returning customer) came in and didn't have enough cash they simply told him to pay next time. And if you live in DC like me, you're even worse off because you're gonna pay a shit load of money for a shit haircut! Look, I'm extremely picky with my barbers. A good haircut makes my entire week easier because I don't spend more than 2 minutes a day on my hair with a good haircut. If i'm spending more than two minutes, I'm wrong. I've been getting my haircut from a female in a beauty salon in Annandale, VA for the past two years. Two big mistakes here. First, don't get a haircut from a woman. To use an art analogy, cutting a woman's hair is like painting and cutting a man's hair is like sculpting and from my experience female barbers cut hair like painters. Not good for guys that like their hair short to medium in length. Second, don't go to a beauty salon. These places are for women and it doesn't matter how good the beautician looks, don't let him or her touch your hair. He or she will fuck it up! Anyways, go to Trieu's. I only use Trieu himself but the other barbers are good too. This is especially good advice if you're an Asian guy that needs a good, decently priced haircut. -Euge read more
