Here's what happened: Me: Hi, I'd like to know how much a cut and color costs. HDS (Hair Designers Studio): What color are you now and what color are you trying to go to? Me: I'm currently dark brown and would like to go medium brown. HDS: Is your dark hair dyed or natural? Me: Dyed, but it's pretty faded. HDS: *loud audible sigh* In that case, i'm going to have to strip out the color, put in a base and maybe even strip in color. I couldn't possibly give you a price quote. Me: It's been more than 4 months since I've had my hair dyed so I don't think that's all necessary. HDS: Um, I think i'm more equipped to answer that than you. Me: Okay, what about cut? HDS: Didn't you hear me? I couldn't possibly give you a range over the phone there are too many factors to consider. If you'd like to come in, I'll give you a free consultation. Me: I don't have time to go from shop to shop for price consultations which is why i'm calling so I can get some sort of idea. So, if you can't give me a range even for a cut then I guess I can't make an appointment. HDS: Then I guess you can't *click* Unbelievable! If you're considering this place - don't! Fahimeh, you are simply amazing! I like a lot of places in LA, but never thought I'd fall in love getting my hair did. First of all, I'm super sexy now, thanks to Fahimeh. I went here during my two years of living in LA and it is one of those glorious gems I miss the most. In a day of forced Sports Clipesque spots this place was a personable breath of fresh air. Fahimeh and Ray made me feel like family and are so genuinely warm and friendly. They will do anything needed to make you look great and I often times left after entering looking near homeless feeling like a million bucks. It was my second time to do my hair cut with Rey. The first time I wasn't that happy, but wanted to give her one more chance. Worst hair cut ever. It seems that she's gotten worse in his profession instead of improving. I showed Rey a picture of the cut I wanted, and when she was done cutting my hair, I wanted to cry. Rey cut my hair so short and it looked nothing like the pretty cut in the picture. I'm so upset and now I have to deal with this unattractive hair until it grows up. I absolutely adore Rey! She has been cutting, coloring, and highlighting my hair since 2002 and I have never had a cut or style/color that I didn't love. Although I am not very adventurous now with my hair, I got bored very easily in my younger years and have had Rey color my hair many different fun colors and cut it from super short bobs to very super long layers. I usually give her full creative license to do whatever she wants with my hair now that I completely trust her judgement. I have never once been disappointed. I will continue to visit Rey for as long as the salon is open and she is available. Rey's mother, Fahimeh, is lovely and welcoming. I had the worst haircut of my life at this salon. I asked for a trim and she cut off 5 inches. It was cut unevenly and took over a year to grow back. 5-star treatment RE: the SALON: A cozy, regal salon in the madness and chaos of Santa Monica Promenade area. I finally found a decent parking spot and went in for a BRAZILIAN GLOBAL KERATIN* treatment. This is the REAL stuff. I made an appointment, and was offered refreshment as Shannaz finished with the previous customer's hair cut. I notice it is a FULL SERVICE salon in business over 25 years in this location. They even do threading (eyebrow shaping, etc.), massage treatments, permanent makeup (!) and facials that sound wonderful. I am coming back. This is an oasis and feels like the estheticians really care about your welfare and want to do the best quality job with the real original high-quality products. RE: my BGK treatment: She meticulously worked on my hair to properly pre-wash, apply treatment, blow-dry, and carefully flat-iron my hair in small sections. I noticed she placed a fan away from my face and all I smelled was the chocolate treatment as it was being warmed and ironed into my hair. I waited 4 days for the first wash (she told me to wait 3 days...oops) to perform this review. No problems. My hair is no longer tight curls, but lush smooth waves. It looks like it is much healthier than before the treatment. All I have to do is pass the flat iron over it to get it smooth again. Looks like five star results too! It is worth fighting the craziness to enter and treat myself by relaxing and being cared for at this salon. Give it a try and see for yourself. read more

She gives me great suggestions about what we'll be doing to my hair that day and with all honesty I let her do her thing. I've had so many different cuts from her and they all look great. I have shoulder length THIN hair and never spent any time on my it, just pulled it into a messy knot usually. So I'd go to a cheap barber shop or Floyd's and felt it would be fine. But then one day I decided it was time to see what would happen when I went to a high end salon, and I was wowed. Rey saved my hair! I just moved to LA and had no clue where to get my haircut. I went to a studio (which shall remain nameless) and a trim somehow turned into a hack job! I purchased a groupon with hair designers studio in Santa Monica. On their fine print they didn't stipulate any specific hair stylist name and it turned out that they can only honor it on Tuesday. This doesn't work with my work schedule and they couldn't offer me or refuse to me any alternative. They were really working against me and not trying at all to help me use the coupon that I purchased. The lady at the front desk, the only one actually was rude, inefficient, and I could tell she was making stories every time I was calmly and politely suggesting a solution.
