In addition to sitting and listening to exactly what I wanted, she took the time to explain the type of hair I have and why other colors or styles may not have worked on me in the past. She's meticulous with her work, constantly attending classes and workshops to make sure she's got the latest information on the products she uses. Most importantly, she's kind. She's funny and genuine. To others who might be worried about the woman who left the one-star review because she wouldn't let her use the bathroom: Kong has been harassed by unkind folks who used to hang around outside. I finally found my hairstylist in Portland! Kong is absolutely amazing. My hair was a mess before yesterday. I called and was able to get in super easy on a Friday. She was so excited to do my hair which made me feel like I was in good hands. A lot of stylists treat their profession like a job. But kong is an artist. She loves color and is phenomenal at it. I won't go to anyone but Kong (the owner) for my hair! Every time I get my hair styled by her, I get tons of compliments. She is good about taking direction if you have a specific look in mind, but she also does a great job if you just want to sit in the chair and let her work. My husband, friends, and several coworkers all go to her, too, and she does a great job with everyone's different styles. Kong is very responsive via text and it's always easy to set up an appointment, though she takes walk-ins, too. The shop is brand new, so it has a clean, modern look. Parking in that part of Portland isn't bad; I've never had a problem parking on the street within about a block of the shop. read more

Made an appointment through their website to get my hair balayaged with bleach. I had dyed it all over brown about a month ago so I wanted some new dimension. I walked into the salon so excited to get my hair done. As I had stated when making the appointment, I wanted my hair balayaged so I went in and showed the stylist, Jenny, the colour I wanted (blonde) I knew it would not be much because my hair was very short and had previously had my hair blonde many times so I knew the processing would be good. As I showed jenny my pictures she asked me if my hair had ever previously been dyed and I told her that yes, I did it brown a month ago. She then told me that she couldn't do anything over previously dyed hair. This information was not mentioned anywhere on their website, instagram, etc. I was so disappointed and upset. I walked out of the salon crying. For many people, going to a hair salon is not their first *ever* time dying their hair, so the fact that they won't do color on anyone who has *ever* had any other color in their hair and then not care to mention it anywhere when making an appointment is really annoying and disappointing. Won't be recommending this place to anyone unless they want to end up crying in their car. read more
