The braider who did my hair did not speak English and perhaps was new. She could not comprehend what I wanted. She repeatedly started a braid, unbraided it and did it again. She seemed perplexed during the entire process (did not add enough gel, did not sew the braids down etc.). What should have taken her no more than 45 minutes (I have a small head), took her almost 2 hours. When I returned home, not only were the braids in the front done wrong but the entire middle part was not straight. Unfortunately I had to remove the braids, thus essentially waisting my money on the service. The next morning I returned to the salon to show the owner. She notified me I would receive no refund. I agree with a previous reviewer that said, they should not have braiders who are "in-training" doing hair without acknowledging that to the customer. My suggestion is to do better. Customer service and customer retention will be key especially as we face recession. Dismissing customer concerns and effortlessly announcing, "no refund" is not a good thing. It is with disappointment that I am posting this negative review. I have been to this salon several…read moretimes and I feel like I really wanted it to work but just has not. I am giving this salon 2 stars because of the customer service. The braiders are really good (other than 2 times when my hair was braided too tight and caused breakage). I've experienced on several occasions tardiness when it comes to appointments. I typically schedule early appointments because my hair is very full and takes a long time to braid. My appointments have never started on time. I am usually waiting for someone to arrive and on one occasion I had a 9am appointment that did not start until 11am. Furthermore, on that occasion the person braiding my hair (while she was apologetic to being tardy) left in the middle of my braid and I hat to wait another hour for someone to finish my hair. I was the first one in and was one of the last two clients to leave that day. One would have expected a discount or some amenity for the inconvenience but there was none. While the braiders can braid well, they are not skilled at caring for hair. I have brought in my own hair ties and clips in an effort to prevent rubber bands being used on my hair to prevent breakage. I have also had to comb out my own knots after watching a braider pull my hair out with the comb. This review is getting pretty long but the last issue I will discuss is the language barrier. It seems there are only a couple braiders who speak fluent English, which makes it difficult to communicate what you want. I have had to discuss my style with another braider and have her communicate with my stylist. Since I am particular about my hair this can happen a couple times during my visit, which appears to frustrate my stylist. Regrettably I will not be returning. If you are reading this and you have a recommendation for a good braiding salon in Gaithersburg or Germantown area please send it my way.
