She listens to what I want (and it helps to show photos too) and gives the best head massages when shampooing. Had my first hair cut here today and I've got to say, I'm thoroughly impressed! I walked in around 2pm on a Saturday and was immediately tended to by Annie. She sat me down, asked how short I wanted my hair cut, and verified the length before cutting. I have my go to gal in Los Gatos for color and cut, but this time around, I really just wanted a quick trim (good bye dead ends!) and knew that I'd be charged $55+ for going to an "upscale salon." Annie was quick yet efficient in making sure my hair was cut at the length I wanted + a good cut with no mistakes. I've been to several salons where they'd cut more than you ask for, but (thankfully) that was not the case here. When checking across several salons in the area, this shop's pricing wins. Altogether I paid $20 using my credit card (+$5 cash tip) for my trim. I wouldn't recommend this place at all. I took my daughter there for a haircut. I asked for layers she said that it would be $25 I said ok no problem. When she did cut the hair she chopped off much more than we agreed on. I kept telling her its too short and she kept cutting it even faster. The haircut itself was horrible the absolute worst. The hairstylist gave me so much attitude and acted as if she was doing me a favor by cutting the hair. The layers are so bad and uneven that the haircut looks very bad on top of everything it's so short that I can't even take my daughter anywhere to adjust the layers. She cut 4 inches off and kept telling us it was looking good. Needless to say, the stylist was not very friendly and refused to listen to what we wanted which is very frustrating. This seems to be one of the only men's haircut places open during the COVID lockdown so this will be the first time I'm here being as though my normal place is closed. I got there too late yesterday before they broke down there setup outside where they are cutting hair, so they told me to come between 8;30 and 9:00 the following morning. There was already one guy there, so I was too late to get my haircut by the owner. So I got the next lady. Overall I'm satisfied with the cut but she didn't take enough time to understand how I wanted the sides done. She ended blended them up so they didn't follow the natural line of my face or head. I had to stop and clear things up and she got pissed, as if it were my fault how I asked for the cut. I know sometimes that's just someone's demeanor and it doesn't mean they're really pissed off, but man if you don't want your customers to make any comments about how you're cutting their hair then ask more questions as you go along. After all, I'm the one that has to look at the haircut every day; not her. Anyway, might have better luck with the owner next time. But will be more satisfied when my normal guy opens back up. Oh snap, I just realized she raised my sideburns and I told her not to. WTF? Changing my rating to 2 stars for that. read more

Took my daughter to get a trim and asked for a slightly layered tapered cut. The lady who cut my daughter's hair clearly did not know what she was doing and cut off more than three inches while leaving a lop-sided jagged haircut that I now have to go pay someone else to do. If you can't do a simple haircut without leaving it mostly uneven (some sections longer than others) with the layers clearly visible (ala a metamorphic cut), don't cut hair. My husband has been going here for years and the quality has been deteriorating - the workers are not as reliable as they used to be. I should have just cut my daughter's hair myself - at least it would be even :). Now I'm going to have to go have someone who does know how to use a scissor to fix it. read more

I went there and I had a really bad experience. They are very rude and their customer service is a worst. She did not cut my hair as I wanted. She just cut however she wanted. I asked her to wash my hair, but she didnt wash my hair properly to make sure there is no shampoo behind my ears. She dropped the towel on the floor and she used it again on my hair. She shaved my beard and she left some hair. When I asked to talk to the manager, she said there is no manager and she ignored me after and she did not answer my questions anymore. Had to come back and give an update.... For 4 years I have visited Wendy for trims, flat irons, Japanese straightening treatments, keratin hair treatment, deep conditions, hair extension placement ... you name it, I've done it LOL! She's done my hair for numerous events including Valentines Day Dates, Company Parties and Weddings. I have changed my job 3 times in the past 4 years, but I've never changed my hair stylist! That's true loyalty! Not only is she an extremely talented hair stylist (especially for hair like mine which is mixed/ethnic), but she is one of the nicest people you will meet. I think I have been going to this salon for 8 years now. I get a haircut every month here and have never been disappointed once. All the ladies who work here are exceptional and can follow along with however terribly you describe what you want done to your hair. They have selections you can choose from, but I like to be endeavorous and get their opinion as well as use my own imagination. Their price is pretty good at about $14 for a mans cut, but there is a range depending on the other services you would like to have. From what I've seen, they do coloring, highlights, washing... Wendy is awesome! I was doing laundry next door and decided to get a haircut while my clothes were getting done in the washer. I went in and explained to her the length and that I wanted some layers. She explained when the layers started to shape my face. I told her I liked that length! I've been to soo many hair dressers in Campbell and West San Jose and even Fremont but I swear Wendy did the best job before my clothes were done from the washer! I have been until most recently having a very good experience. My two sons -2 and 7 and myself have been getting a hair cut here, for past two year. None of my sons have have ever had a problem. Our go to stylist has been great. Today she was not there and someone else starting giving the haircut to my eldest son, who is now 9 yrs, he starting crying as the woman (first time getting a haircut from her) giving haircut was pulling his hair. I asked and she started yelling - saying you don't know your son. And then she called me names in front of people. I got the hair cut for my two sons and walked out. This is one of the worst experiences and I would caution everyone- if the owner of this shop (which she said she was) is like this - they should be banned from giving hair cuts. read more

I'm going to this salon just because of Helen for almost 6 years. She is amazing stylist. She is my son's favorite hair dresser too. If I want to write a review for her then it would be 5 stars but this review is for the new owner who took over the business recently and she has been raised the price unbelievably. I always BRING MY OWN COLOR and ask them to apply, then GO home for wash. For years I was paying $15 to apply plus $5 tip. Today I asked Helen to wash my hair too and at the end I was surprised with price!!! She charged me $40!!! Ok, $15 to apply color and mostly $10 wash, it would be $25. Then why $40?!!!!!!!! With not even a blow dry or style. Everyone starts to explain thats because the new owner has been changed the prices. But how much? Raising $5, $10, not this much. What is the logical reason For such a change I'm absolutely disappointed with what they did today. I'm a hair stylist and working at very expensive area and I'm totally aware of the price of products and all kinds of services. I like this salon. They are not high end, but the skills that the hair stylist has are equal to the high end salons. Vivian does my hair once in a while and people compliment about how well my hair style fits. I also do eyebrow waxing there and very satisfied with the result. First time here today and I have found my to go place for haircuts. When I walked in, I was greeted right away and since there was no one there, I went straight to the chair. I should of asked my hair stylist name, but it was older lady who has the first station in the store. She is a sweet lady who is always smiling. She did an amazing job, better than Salons I have been too. I had long hair (almost too my butt) and thick hair. She was surprised how much hair I have. She asked me length I wanted, any layers, bangs, and if I wanted to thinning my hair. I told her shoulder length for my first layer and she did that! She listened to what I want and delivered. She took her time laying my hair and thinning or my hair. I swear she went over my hair 4-5 times making sure everything is correct. Three people came in and she still took her time with me and that means a lot to me. I've had stylists who would rush when a customer comes into the door and that would piss me off. At the end of of my cutting, she straightened my hair. My cut cost me $20.00 and I love it! I have curly hair that I have hated my entire life. My 4 year old curly haired daughter and I walked by and I figured we would get a trim. That's all hair cuts have been to me for years. Just a trim. I have been going to Modern Cuts for many years now. To me it's like visiting Floyd the barber (See Andy Griffith Show). They all know me by first name and are very friendly. I get a good cut every time and they have kept the price a steady $12.00 forever (so provide a good tip). I really enjoy getting a cut from Helen or Michelle the owner. Both are fast and do a great precision job. The facility is a bit Spartan but clean. Many magazines to read, checker board for kids, full coat rack, and the wait times are typically pretty short.
