I have been struggling to find a hair stylist who is within reasonable distance from me and knows how to navigate cut and color with curly hair. I stumbled upon Helen's reviews and gave her a try. I recently started highlighting my hair and struggled telling previous stylists what the look I wanted was and the end result never came out like my inspiration pics. Within seconds of sitting in her chair, she had said the exact thoughts I had about my hair and I didn't have to say it to her myself (e.g., brassy color, uneven distribution of highlights, and layers not cut for curly hair)! She even made suggestions of what would be better for my hair without me saying much or showing her pictures. I was kinda amazed that it was working out so well. I wanted to get rid of the copper/brassiness of the highlights and try to get something more natural to my naturally black hair that would be low maintenance and less embarrassing for me to walk around in if I can't make it back to the salon in a few months. END RESULT: I got exactly what I wanted! She added shorter layers, which I'm loving. She toned down the top layer of my highlights, but made sure to give me enough peek a boo subtle pops through out. She also didn't try to blow out my curls, which I highly appreciated. She's super honest, easy to talk to, thoughtful in her work, very responsive, and affordable price! Helen was in LA, she was around 40 minutes drive but I decided to try her. Helen is a magical being. She is a visionary and the perfect person to go to, especially if you are indecisive and unsure what looks best on you. I love how she takes the time with a consultation to get to know your hair's history, and tries to steer you away from bad decisions, such as bleaching hair that is way too fragile to be bleached any more (which was my case). I also showed her a color that I kind of wanted, but I was iffy about, and she said that she thinks it is way too dark for me and that I might regret it, and gave me a lighter suggestion after showing me how dark I was actually trying to go with her book of hair colors, while also letting me know that if I really wanted it, she will do it for me. I am so, so insanely glad that she gently let me know that I may regret it, because I now know that I would have really regretted it. She has a lot of experience with a lot of different people and hair, so it is really easy to trust her eye and judgement. I have never been to a stylist that seems to actually try to help visualize what looks best on you, and Helen does just that, and coming in with color theory and stuff too (and not being pushy at all about it btw)! Everyone else I've been to my whole life would just replicate what I want even if it would have been a horrible decision, and sometimes not even being able to replicate it properly. I learned a lot from Helen and completely 100% trust her with my hair. I am so glad she moved from LA to Rancho Cucamonga because wow the IE really needed someone amazingly pro like her. She also did an amazing haircut on me that I absolutely love, and I never thought that layers could work on my hair, but I'm so glad I trusted her vision because I absolutely love it. She takes your face shape and the best parts of your face into account when cutting your hair. And another thing, I was really amazed that she spotted the really damaged areas of my hair. I went from orange/brown hair to a full dark blue in a single 4 hour session. Helen offered me a healthier alternative to achieve the blue-black hair by only bleaching half my hair for dark blue "highlights" and blue-black "lowlights". I had decided it was finally time for a change in hairdressers & saw the amazing photos of Helen's clients on Yelp. I instantly knew that I had to give her a try. I have always been a great judge of people's character & from the moment I met Helen, I knew I liked her, now I knew that was just the first step, but I'd already seen the evidence of her work! She had me sit down in the chair to wash my hair & we discussed what I was looking for & she closely looked over my whole head of hair & got started washing. While she was washing, she started giving me some tips on shampoo for my natural gray hair to improve the color & shine, she also made sure that I knew that she wasn't trying to sell me anything, just giving me advice, which is something I really valued. Then before she started cutting my hair, she again went over every section of my head to see exactly what she needed to do in order to try & get my hair to grow into the Bob that I have been trying to achieve for a long time. Helen explained all of the things that had bee done wrong & how she was going to make corrections & at the same time make it easier for me to manage my hair.
