This review has been long overdue. I have been going to Joaquin for several years now. I live and work in SF, but I get my haircut in LA. That's how good Joaquin is. I've followed him through 3 different locations and salons. He gives an absolutely great haircut. I have thick curly black (and gray) hair. He seems to be the only person who knows how to tame it. The real proof is not the moment after you get a haircut, but a week later when it is growing in nicely and it still looks great. I don't know how he understands my crazy curly hair so well, but it's fantastic. Currently a men's short haircut is $25. This is WAY underpriced for the quality and service. On top of all that, I always look forward to chatting when I get my hair cut, and typically I dread making chit chat while other stylists cut my hair. read more

Joaquin is a delightful, experienced, young hairstylist. I have been looking for an stylist like him for a long time. From Umberto to Juan Juan to H Salon you name it. I have been there and I never came out happy. But let me tell you about Joaquin! He first listened carefully, looked at my hair. sat me down, and 30 minutes later my hair was exactly cut the way I wanted. He first left it a bit longer than I wanted. Showed me in the mirror and asked me if I like the length. When I told him I would have wanted a bit shorter he graciously agreed and started all over again and I was nervous that he may go too short this time (I never correct a hair stylist just for that reason) but for some reason I felt I can trust Joaquin. He has that quality that you feel comfortable in his chair and feel you can trust him. The second time he did exactly how I imagined it. Then he gave it a bit of layer like a magician!!! He is fast. Joaquin is a hair GOD. He understands hair like Picasso understood painting. Struggling to find "the one' I looked at over 50 stylists instagram pages and noticed they all did the same beach blonde/messy wave/side swept bangs/LA balayage. And they all cost over $300 for a cut/color. No thanks. Then the universe (Yelp) let me to Joaquin. Looking through his work I noticed 2 things: 1. He cuts long hair amazingly well - which is much harder to do 2. His color is impeccable and every person had a completely different look. He's obsessed with the details....he can literally do ash blonde 10 different ways. So I made my appt, and ended up being late. I would have 100% understood if he charged me a late fee and told me I had to re-book. But he didn't do any of that. He was so understanding and accommodated me and was just the most awesome person. All talent and class - a rare breed in LA. I'm obsessed with my hair....he cut and colored it's so full and bouncy all the time. I'm So So So happy and cannot wait to go back. I scheduled a haircut and I even called to confirm 30 minutes before the appointment. When I got there Joaquin told me that there were a few people ahead of me and that it would be 45 minutes and that he hoped I didn't have anywhere to be. He then tried to pawn me off onto another hairdresser, which I thought was very unprofessional. So I went and got a bite to eat and when I came back he told me there was still someone else ahead of me. He then asked the woman ahead of me if he could cut my hair real quick before her. When I told him that I didn't want him rushing my haircut he told me he didn't have time for this and to leave. He was very unprofessional and I will never go back there again. read more
