Every time I'm here I get treated as if I'm a princess! Tammy is soooo amazing. I leave the salon refreshed, brightened, and with such beauty. I've done a balayage with her twice and my current red two toned color, has been complimented nearly every time I go out. By family friends and even strangers. She does a great job with washing drying and styling as well. I get the length I want, the color I provide, and at the same time allow her full reign on what will leave me looking the sexiest I can be. She and I mesh so well together! The ladies at Jovana have seen me grow up from a free-spirited 20's gal to a mom living on the Eastside, and I've fully entrusted them with my hair along the whole way. They were so accommodating to fit me in on a next day appointment and even more understanding when I was caught in traffic trying to get over there. The appointment was super personable and the consultation for what I wanted for my hair was great. I think the stylist really understood what I wanted with just simple communication. The color turned out better than I could've imagined the massage for my head when she was shampooing was great as well. This is my first time at Jovana Salon. This is also the first time in about 1.5 years since I had my hair professionally cut due to Covid-19. I made my appointment with Tammy since I saw she has consistently wonderful reviews. This is a small salon and there were two stylists there when I arrived. This salon takes Covid-19 seriously and I was comfortable with their safety measures. I appreciate this very much. Tammy is nice and comfortable to talk to. Since Tammy came with such nice reviews, I took a chance and left it up to her as to what cut and style would suit my face shape, would be age flattering, and an easy day-to-day wear. I am usually not a fan of razor type cutting because most stylists don't seem to do this type of cut properly. That's not the case with Tammy. This woman has skills! I usually say I'm a worm and I need a stylist who can make me a butterfly, yet now in my older age I'm real happy to be metamorphosed from a worm to a moth. Tammy made me into a pretty moth. This review is long overdue but here goes - I wanted a quick cut and soon and if you have ever been to any of the salons in this particular neighborhood you know its almost impossible . You have to book weeks if not a month in advance and I was so surprised that they accepted my walk in on a slow weekday . The staff is friendly and extremely receptive to your requests. I showed her a pic of what I wanted and she suggested I make some modifications acc to my hair type and I loved what she proposed . They do a dry cut so she straightened my hair before the cut and that was the first time for me getting my hair trimmed without getting my hair wet . Since than I have had multiple dry cuts in other salons but the staff here were pretty fast I must say . The machine wasn't working and I had no cash so the hairstylist told me to come back later and pay and that I didn't even have to do it today . I really appreciated her flexibility because I did not have a debit card on me either to get cash from a nearby ATM . I went the same evening to pay and thanked her for her kindness. The salon doesn't look too fancy but don't let that fool you . They are good in what really matters- good haircuts ! read more

I wasn't going to write a review but after 7 months of growing the haircut Tammy gave me out I'm getting progressively more annoyed with trying to find ways to wear my hair up without it sticking up in different directions. After requesting just a trim of my LONG layers she left me with pieces (even in the back) that were two inches long. With wavy hair that tends to frizz there are not enough flat irons in the world to make a haircut like this manageable. I have never actually regretted a haircut until this one! read more

I went in with an open idea about my hair, I just wanted to keep my length and go lighter. I have been dreading writing this one. Little backstory: My hair is thick, curly (though I straighten it weekly) and it was super damaged on the ends (to much dye and bleaching) so I needed a big chop and was fine with it. I made the appointment online and showed up a few minutes early. The staff was super nice. I explained to the stylist what I wanted, collarbone length with long layers and my bangs trimmed. She said sounds good, cut about 6 inches off and we went to the bowl. The hair wash was great and really long. This was the first mention of my hair being so thick. I just said yeah and we talked for a few minutes. We get back to the chair and she started blow drying my hair, no products of any kind, there was another mention of thick and lots of hair. I said yeah, and thought I know I live with in. After the blow dry she flat ironed my hair and then cleaned out the length, one last mention of thick hair, trimmed my bangs and my 30 minute appointment was up. The cut is straight across and no layering and by the end of that night it was a huge puffy mess. So all in all, if you are close to here maybe give them a try but it's not worth the drive for me. read more

This was the weirdest haircut of my entire life but oh my god, did she deliver. She took me at the last minute and finished cutting my hair in less than half an hour. No wash beforehand, not even a brush, nothing -- she just goes straight in with a flat iron and then starts chopping. I'm not gonna lie, my heart was racing the whole time, and I made my peace with the possibility that I had made a huge mistake. Wrong! This might be the best haircut of my life? I got a cut and style with Tamy at the recommendation of a friend as I needed a new hairstylist and was in desperate need of a trim. Came in a little early for my appointment and had to wait maybe 10-15 minutes as Tamy was finishing up with a client. She was super patient and listened to exactly what I wanted for my hair. She even gave a couple suggestions for the cut and style to create a more even and balanced look, which I loved as that was something I was struggling with! The cut and style were quick but to the point and I was super happy with how it looked! In regards to the location, it is small and in the city which means there is street parking that gets filled up quickly. So that is something to consider when making your appointment so you have enough time to get to it as you may be circling the area a little. read more

I was referred to TiTi at Jovana by a friend after getting a horrendous and insanely expensive hair cut at French Cut Hair in the Pearl. I asked for an ombre and got orange hair and the colors were not blended at all. I was charged almost $400 and hated my hair. I was in search for a well priced yet experienced stylist and I am SO happy I went with TiTi. Before she started to work on my hair we talked for 15 minutes about what I was looking for and I showed her pictures. She was incredibly patient and had some great recommendations. She spoke with me through the process which relieved a lot of anxiety after having such a terrible experience before. My hair is now EXACTLY how I wanted it to be and she cut my hair beautifully. An added bonus was that she massaged my head for a good 15 minutes which felt amazing. To top it all off, she added 2 colors to my hair and gave me a cut for a quarter of what I paid before! I've been to Jovana twice and have had two different hair stylists and have had a great experience both times! My recent experience was with Tammy who was very welcoming! I came in with two pictures I wanted and referenced two additional pictures that were posted here on Yelp, to my surprise she was the one who had done the hair in the pictures so I felt even more comfortable with her. she was very knowledgable and patient and took the time to explain what she felt would look good with my hair and skin color but still stressed that she would do exactly what I wanted. I love it and love her! My first experience was with Lina who was also very knowledgeable and kind! I recommend both ladies! They are wonderful. Also, I requested an appointment the day before. The online booking was very easy and when the time I had selected was full they emailed me right away with the next available time slot. They do take walk ins! Last thing, I felt that their prices were right above fair. My hair is long, dark and very thick so it takes a long time and effort to cut and color it. Tammy had given me a fair price to start and was honest in saying that next time it would be a bit more because of the type of hair I have. Support this salon! I have extremely thick/unruly hair so getting a good haircut can be a challenge, and I have loved every haircut I have gotten at this salon. All of the stylists are so nice and considerate. Also, I went there as quarantine restrictions began to ease and they are doing a lot to ensure the safety of their customers. The number of customers was intentionally limited to ensure safe distances and all of the stylists where in protective masks/wear; not to mention the extensive sanitation measures I saw them taking. I had a wonderful experience as I've always had. I've been cutting my hair in this place for years eight years to be precise and I have never had a problem with it. They've always received me with lots of love and even if I messed it up myself (sometimes I like doing stuff on my own hair) she Tammy says: don't worry the good thing is that you came to us. I was in the market for a quality and affordable bayalage and decided to try Jovana after reading all the great reviews. I made an appointment with Tammy as her name was mentioned most often in other reviews. Tammy and I looked through the photos I brought and discussed which colors would work best with my hair and skin tone. My major requests were that the end result be soft and pretty and that my gross, brassy highlights be covered up. After 2 hours, Tammy delivered. The experience itself was pretty standard-- no frills. However, I came for a good haircut and color and that was what I got. My hair is exactly what I wanted! The colors are soft, but still noticeable. One thing to note is that I did ask Tammy to start the bayalage higher so I could stretch as much time as possible in between appointments. On their website they have a package for $95, but after my appointment Tammy let me know that it would be more since she had to tone my hair to rid me of my nasty highlights. Not a problem, it was still cheaper than all the other salons I viewed. Plus, I have long hair. All in all, I paid $125 + tip. I was initially hesitant to try this salon because I figured I'd get what I paid for, but not this time! Quality and affordable does exist! read more

I wanted to love this place so much! Unfortunately when I went in for my appointment on a Tuesday I had to wait almost two hours for my wash, dry and haircut. I was told there was an error with their online appointment system and they were overbooked. I would've been totally fine with this had I been happy with the service and result. I wanted my hair blow dried nicely and it was not, they rushed through everything. First time I've had my hair cut AFTER they blow dried it, weird. I wanted bangs and I didn't get them, I also felt uncomfortable asking after the second time. UPDATE: Have been going here for a couple of years and, honestly, have never been quite as happy as I was the first time. They consistently overdo my highlights, giving me those obnoxious overly blond streaks in my regularly brown hair. This time the gal got me prepped and said to sit for 10 minutes. I should have set my timer. Pretty soon she popped out of her chair and ran over to check me... She had been playing on her phone and, I'm sure, lost track of time. So here I am again... Overprocessed and streaky. Done. Bought a Groupon (even though I said I'd never buy another haircut Groupon!) for a cut and full highlights. Reserved online, choosing a gal who had a lot of good reviews. Got a totally different gal when I got there. Fine.... I feel like it was probably an abbreviated appt, since it was a Groupon. i.e. - She didn't put me under the dryer but instead used the handheld hairdryer for maybe 4 mins., then had me remain in the cutting chair for five more. Then she washed and conditioned. My hair is long and full highlights usually take almost two hours. I was done in just under an hour this time. I will say that the color came out fine, the trim was very good, and evidently the handheld hair dryer was a good idea because my hair doesn't feel like straw, like it usually does after a highlight appt. The place was busy and a lot of the customers seemed to be regulars. The gals in the shop knew some of their names and the walk in customers were willing to wait (patiently!) for their turn.
