Dallie was the stylist. I called requesting a specific color. She agreed to it. I got there, she didn't even have the product, had to use the other stylist products, and instead of telling me there was not enough product, she lied and used a different product color on my hair. I requested a 2 dark brown, and she put 3 ash, and a 4 in my hair. She tells the other hairstylist, "I owe you, I'll tell you later what I did". I found out that what she did was mix her 3's and 4's to produce enough product to finish my hair because I told her this looks much lighter than it usually does. She admitted to me after doing what she did that she did it because 2 shade is too dark, and this matched my natural hair. I wanted darker that's the entire reason I go and get my hair dyed, I do not want my natural color. She is unorganized, and answers the phone while I'm in the middle of my appointment, and sits and talks herself up to the people on the line. She does not listen to the client, she constantly changed my request to convince me otherwise instead of admitting she can't do it. She then charged me for a "style" that she put a dirty used hair tie with someone else's blonde hair tied up in it with my hair in a bun with a ton of random bobby-pins stuck in it. She did not curl it, nothing, for $50. It is embarrassing to speak up in front of an entire building of people, and the way her personality is so aggressive, I did not feel comfortable to speak up. So $225 later, I did not get want I requested from the beginning. Do not use this stylist. The other two girls there were doing amazing work on their clients! I called Hair Studio 104 when I severely needed a hair cut and color. I hadn't done much research on this salon except for looking at reviews on Yelp, which were good, so I went for it. I made an appointment over the phone and spoke to the owner. The morning of my appointment, I go in, and the owner states "___ is out of town, you don't have an appointment with her." Stunned, I gave her my name again and it had turned out that the owner moved my appointment to another hairdresser since the old one was out of town. I did not get a call or anything before, which was upsetting because I would have liked to have been able to do some research on this stylist to see if she was a god fit for me, just like I did with the stylist I originally was set up with. The owner showed no remorse for her mistake and didn't even apologize. I found it unprofessional and a major inconvenient considering I waited two weeks for the appointment. I really needed a hair cut, so I pushed past my lack of comfort and went through with the appointment. I wish I hadn't. The stylist was not a good fit for me or for my hair type, and literally left the premises when the color sat on my hair (for 55 minutes). If you're going to leave a client and leave the premises, you need to tell the client and brief them on the processing time. Will never be returning. Honestly I am shocked this studio is still open considering the lack of standards. read more

I've lived in Monterey for 4 years and struggled to find a salon to attempt the transformation to blonde that almost every female Asian does at least twice in their life. It was time. I walked in for a consult and got paired up with Jami R. She looked at my desired end state, asked the right questions and talked me through what it would take to get there. She was very clear that it would be a process, and having done this before, I understood...we'd go through a stage of some "warmth" aka brassiness just because of the natural color of my hair. The first round ended in a color I actually liked but wasn't quite as light as I wanted it. It did get pretty brassy but I came in for a toner in between rounds to just get me through to the next round. I was going for a more grown out look since I'm a single mom of two and coming in for root touch ups was just unrealistic for my situation and needed something more "low maintenance". The blending looked beautiful the first round so I knew the second was going to be great! The second round did get me to where I wanted to be and I love it. I think we are going to go for some root stretching next to work on some of the darker roots that didn't get as blonde as the ends. I appreciated that Jami took precautions to make sure she didn't fry my hair though some damage is inevitable with the lightening process. The studio is nice and this place stays busy so be flexible and you will need an appointment for a project like this. Each session took about 3-4 hours. The location is a little tucked away but it's right behind Heirloom Pizza. There is plenty of parking but the parking lot is pretty tight. All the stylists there are really nice and outgoing, and they really do all seem to get along which makes the atmosphere a great place to be with plenty of random conversations you can join in on or keep to yourself and just listen or put headphones in. Jami specifically is awesome. She was upfront with expectation management and what her process would be. I do not doubt that if she couldn't get you to where you wanted the way you wanted...she'd refer you to another stylist. I would 100% trust what she says because she clearly knows what she's doing. It sucks that it took me four years to find this place right before I move two hours away...but I could see myself driving back to see Jami because I trust her with my hair. Jami works Tues, Wed, and Thurs and accepts cash, PayPal and Zelle as payment methods. Jami is clear and detailed with everything she will be doing and when she quoted me her price, in my head I thought OMG, that's it (the last time I got my hair washed, cut and styled in Monterey I paid over $100 and HATED it)?! Her prices are very reasonable especially for the amount of work she is putting in. This place is frequented my regulars (everyone knows everyone) so if you're new to the area...become one of their regulars! read more

This place is my new favorite. I am still new to the Monterey area, so finding a hairstylist is always stressful. I ended up finding Hair Studio 104 and booking with Dominee. The location itself is very easy to find, and it has a sizable parking lot behind it. I know that sounds silly to point out, but normally downtown locations of any sort do not have parking. Dominee is also great. She does my hair quickly, she is friendly, and I love how my hair turns out. The salon itself is very clean. This place is great! read more

The women working seemed sweet enough, but I'm the one who has to look at myself in the mirror every day, and sweetness can't put a bandaid over the feelings I have over the terrible haircut I received from Lynette. Maybe it would have been okay if I was 12... but I'm not. -$25 cut should have been a major red flag. -You have to make an appointment specifically for shampoo/condition otherwise they cut your hair dry. Would have been nice to be told that when I made the appointment as a first time customer. -15-20 minutes total in the chair including consultation. Other people's reviews made it sound like their process was rushed as well. In the end it all comes down to finding the right person for you. Maybe there are great stylists in this establishments, maybe I just caught mine on a bad day. What is a mystery is the 5 star reviews bringing in the suckers who lean on Yelp for assistance, explained, with the asterisks of the 61 deleted reviews under the "Not Recommended" section. This place is very hard to find. And trust me - that is a positive thing. You dont want to find it. It is not much of a find. Confucius say : Man who look at 5 Star Yelp Reviews should look at how many have been deleted underneath. This is called a Ratio of Credence + Credibility. Do i think this is a 5 star operation ? No. I think if you were to include the reviews that were deleted it would receive about 2 or 3 stars. This is far more a Ovis Arias than a Homo Sapien clipping experience.
