I'm so glad I did...I have been to quite a few stylists before who said they were good with curly hair, even one who had the Deva training, but not one of them gave me an education on how to deal with my curls at home. Susanna is a truly amazing hairstylist. She was so gentle with my hair, even throughout the detangling process. As she washed, cut, and styled my hair, she told me what she was doing and checked with me before doing anything. At other salons, getting my hair washed can be an uncomfortable experience for me sometimes, but Susanna went out of her way to ensure that I was as comfortable as possible each step of the way, providing extra towels for my neck and checking if I was okay. When it came time to style my hair, I showed her a photo of how she styled it the previous time and she recreated it perfectly, spending extra time to add gorgeous waves. My hair was beautifully bouncy, voluminous, and healthy by the end of our appointment. I always feel so confident and refreshed after visiting Salon Beija Vu, and this will definitely be my go-to hair salon on the Monterey Peninsula for years to come! The salon itself has a beautifully-decorated interior, and it is on one of the cutest streets in downtown Monterey. Love that you can book silent appointments with Devin, and that they're ready for literally any edgy style and color challenge. The only reason I can't give a full five star is that the salon itself isn't really made for someone larger than a size 18. The salon chairs are vintage and oh so uncomfy if you're gifted in the booty department, or have back issues. The whole place is wheelchair accessible though!! If/when the salon chairs modernize, it's a 10/10 for me! read more

I have been so buy traveling last month that when I walked out this morning, I didn't realize how bad my grays were until I was leaving the house to drive here (btw..it's a 7 hr drive!). & my aunt pointed out how bad the grays were... Too late to take care of it & didn't want to risk the store bought stuff, as soon as I arrived, I called around but checked Yelp for recommendations. 3 places I called couldn't take me...so I tried one more place & Suzanne told me to come in. You see, I don't need anything else- no drying or styling, just gray coverage. Suzanne took the time to look through my hair, get the right color, and was up front that she has an appt coming in 1/2 hr and I would have to wait...No problem. Color was on..I waited while she tended to her appt, then it was time to rinse. I was out by 6pm.. Thank you Suzanne....And after I checked in with Yelp, I got 20% off my hair color.!! I love Salon Beija Vu. Diana really knows how to take a concept and apply it to your hair in the best way possible. I never go in with an exact plan as to what I want to do with my hair, but I always leave with something creative and well crafted. The Salon itself has really awesome art pieces hanging on the walls, and it has a very fresh look. It reminds of a hair salon you might find in a big city -- unique, and artsy. I cannot end this review without mentioning the best part.... essential oil massages. Enough said? I am pretty picky about who does my hair, and I have visted a lot of salons in Monterey. I am fairly new to the area and have been reading reviews to see which salon to go to for a haircut and gloss and Beija Vu had really good reviews. Now I know why!! Chelsea was my hair stylist and she picked out a gorgeous color for the gloss and I love the way she cut my hair! I have really long, straight hair and it was nice to keep some of the length but take some of the weight off and add layers. All in all, I am 100% happy with the service and the atmosphere at Beija Vu! Its small so it feels like you have your own personal stylist and their complete attention. My cut and color was more than I am used to spending but it was worth every penny. I will definitely be a returning customer. Side note: parking near the salon is 1 hour during the week, so I recommend parking in the garage or there are some 2 hour parking a few blocks away to avoid Monterey's $35 parking tickets :) read more

Susanna is amazing! I moved to Monterey about a year and a half ago, I first came in to see Susanna around that time frame and she did a great job on my curly hair. I went back today and she gave me a great dry cut and added some products and lift. My hair looks great! I told her I wanted to use clips to bring some volume to my hair and she went out of her way to show me how to use the clips and gave tips while she did it. Love her and love the salon! read more

Every review was positive and even more important, a woman who had a similar hair texture as mine, RAVED about the services she received and how beautiful her hair was following her appointment. With all the positive affirmations, I scheduled an appointment with Michael and am very happy to report that I REALLY LOVE MY CURLY HAIR NOW!!! Michael is the absolute best! He listened to my concerns and offered a professional opinion based on that information. He literally "schooled" me about my hair and the best ways to enhance my natural curl pattern. He patiently explained what to do and what not to do with respect to curly hair. I left the salon feeling FABULOUS and confident about styling my hair between appointments! She was able to schedule my cut and color appointment within a few days of the initial consultation. After highlighting my hair for years, I wanted to go to my natural color. On my first visit I met with Michael and he patiently listened while I explained that I wanted a stylish and edgy new look but did not want to spend too much time styling my hair every day. The result was amazing! He not only gave me a completely awesome new look but also went above and beyond by cutting my hair in a way that would allow me to keep it curly or straight without much effort at all. In the past, I have had a lot of trouble finding someone who understands the nature of thick and wavy hair that resembles a lion's mane when left unkempt. The fact that he was able to transform my hair in such a dramatic way is incredible. He also took into account the fact that my bangs would grow back soon and made sure to cut them in a way that would allow me to work with them through their awkward stage. Chelsea did an outstanding job coloring my hair (high and low lights). She listened very well to what I wanted and gave some suggestions. I love the results! The place is small, but very nice. They offer water or tea upon checking in. The staff is very nice and always smiling so that gives you good vibes. Easy to make an appointment; I think I had to wait only a week. I wanted to keep my length but needed to revive my hair, which is tricky, as you know if you have curls, if you cut an inch you loose five in curl up. I just had a "deva cut" with Michael...it's the best hair cut I have ever had! I was looking for a change, I have long naturally curly hair and was wanting something different. He cut off 10 inches and I couldn't be more happy with the way it looks. It's the first time I didn't have that "omg, what did I just do" feeling. I couldn't wait to get home to show it off. I really loved my hair the way it was but it needed some upkeep, so I headed over to Salon Beija Vu. I was very straightforward with the stylist, saying what I wanted very specifically multiple times, and thought we were on the same page when we talked and when she cut the initial length off where I could see it in the mirror. Unfortunately by the time I left my hair was completely different, shorter with a style I had said really wouldn't work with the type of hair I have. Over the last week it has proven nearly impossible to shape into anything not resembling a poufy mess. The stylist also gave me hard time about my general appearance, making me feel like everything I was doing in terms of beauty management were wasted and wrong. Like many others out there I have my share of self-confidence issues, but my hair made me feel pretty and good about myself. I know that hair grows and that this isn't the end of the world, but I feel heartbroken. I've lost a part of myself that always made me happy and was part of my identity, and it has been very difficult. Obviously I don't expect a salon to give or take away my sense of self-worth, that's something I need to work on myself. But, as the person who has possessed the hair for decades and knew what I needed for it, I would have really loved to be listened to. It seems like lots of other people really enjoy this salon and for that I'm glad, but I won't be going back there. read more
