Fellas you won't understand this, but we gals count on our hairstylist to make us feel even better about ourselves! What's hard is when you have a stylist and then they move away so now it's finding somebody new. Men, you will never go through this anxiety. What are you do you call your friends you ask for recommendations you look at Yelp do you go on Facebook. In the end I just called a woman who always looks great and works with brides. Without hesitation she recommended Beautification By Alyssa. I was skeptical because I couldn't reach her on the phone immediately and and I looked like my finger was put in a wet socket. I admit I was also skeptical when I walked in and saw someone getting their hair dyed blue and Alyssa was this purple violet red color! Well I decided to just trust the process. Alyssa did a really great job on my hair and was very informative about how I can improve my routine. $35 for trim, $10 extra for wash. 45 minutes all together. It was a little hard to get scheduled with her and I ended up booking about 3 weeks out (she's off Monday's and Friday's). I was originally going to do color but it was $105 for color and cut so I decided to take the less expensive way out. My appointment description wasn't changed in her system so she was confused when I arrived for just cut. She was a little rushed since she had someone scheduled during my what would have been my processing time. Parking was easy and salon was quaint. She's a little over my budget for trims every 6 weeks but I would recommend her to anyone looking for a good stylist. 3 stars for value and ease of getting a timely appointment. read more

I love Alyssa!! I have been seeing her for about 3 years now. I love her as a person and a hair stylist. She is very sweet and always makes a point to make sure you leave happy. She always styles my hair before leaving too (for free) because she just loves what she does. CUTS: I started getting bangs in college. While I always loved having bangs, I always dreaded finding a new hairdresser for them (I've had horrible experiences in the past). I found Alyssa through a Groupon and am so thankful that I did. Not only can I trust that she will always cut my bangs (and hair) the way I want it, but she will do it exactly the way I want it every time and with ease. COLOR: I had only ever had my hair highlighted before coming to Alyssa. I took the color plunge with her a few years ago, and I am so glad I did. I started by doing a temporary color of copper lowlights. Then I went permanent copper. Then a darker, bolder red. I have loved every single color. The color looks great and lasts a good while (she recommends products to help hold the color). While I have gone pretty safe with my color, I have seen her post other work on her Facebook page that is awesome (but I'm too afraid to get). You know those great Pinterest and Instagram posts where people have these beautiful pastel unicorn rainbow multi-color hair jobs (or however you would describe them)? Yeah, she can do that :) Since I haven't had my hair colored by other people, I can't compare her. But, I can tell you that she takes the time to really match what you are imagining. She's also sweet enough to walk you through what she is doing if you want to know (so newbies like me can learn while being beautified). Conclusion: Alyssa is sweet, affordable, and good at what she does. I am moving at the end of the month, and I am half tempted to make special trips down to continue to see Alyssa (~4 hour drive). read more

I would give Alyssa 0 stars if I could. My last hair appointment with her was absolutely traumatizing. It was about 6 months ago now and my hair is still fried and breaking constantly. I have since seen 2 top hair professionals in Carmel and they have done all they could but had to chop off the majority of my hair (which was more than halfway down my back when I first went to Alyssa) given the extensive damage. The day that I came in for an appointment, I had come in wanting ombré, which she had done about a year prior to my hair. She ended up putting doing full head highlight. When I asked why she was starting from the top of my head she said it would look better. I told her I didn't want it streaky, I just wanted the Ombré. She assured me it would look nicer and continued. She then put me under a red light and let it sit for about 45 minutes while she sat on her computer. When she came back to check on my hair she instantly pulled me over to the sink to wash it out. She told me she was giving me a treatment that would normally cost $10 extra but would be free that day. When I sat back down in the chair I ran my fingers through my hair and clumps of WHITE hair started coming out. It was literally stringy and soft and just falling out. All I had to do was lightly pull and it would break apart. It was horrible. A living nightmare, to be honest. When I asked her what she was going to do, she ended up giving me a quick hair cut and blow dried my curly hair. She then charged me $165! I was shocked. My young daughter was with me so I just paid and left. I regret that now given the amount of money I have had to dish out to save my hair. I hope people read this and find another stylist that's more qualified and professional in order to avoid this kind of experience. read more

This review is from my wife... This is long overdue but I wanted to say how happy I was with my experience with Alyssa. Going off only other Yelp reviews, I left messages for several salons. She was the only one out of 5 hair salons / hair stylists I contacted that not only called me back to discuss making an appointment, but she also called me back promptly within the same day after I left her a message. A definite A+ for professionalism. Alyssa was so friendly as well that time just flew by while she was doing my hair. The hair turned out awesome. I didn't have an exact hairdo I wanted to copy but I explained that I wanted an updo with loose curls and it had to last the day with possible windy conditions because it was an outdoor wedding. I allowed her creative freedom and I think she accomplished exactly what I was looking for. The hair lasted up until the late evening and did not feel heavy with too much product in it. I called to make an appointment and the message told me to send a text message requesting an appointment, which I did. I sent two messages and never got a response. Previously I read a review stating that she only tends to friends and family. I must go along with that assessment. I will be finding someone else whom would like a new client. I finally got a message from Alyssa that was rude at best, after I posted this review, about entitlement? Not sure I understand what she is meaning but I do believe when you are in business it is a good practice to answer called within a couple of days. After 7 years of a very close friend doing my hair, I was very nervous to test the waters with someone new, especially in an unfamiliar place. But, I am so glad I did. The booking process was simple. Alyssa and I texted back and forth, I sent her pictures of what my hair looked like now and what I wanted. She asked a couple of questions gave me a plan and a price. If you are looking for someone who can cut your hair for $25, you just found her! I found Alyssa, just like everyone else, on Yelp. I like the cut she gives me, so much that I told nearly all my friends who do not want to pay $60-70 for a haircut. (Remind you that if you add shampoo and styling and all, maybe it will total up to be as much.) But you see, I can wash my own hair and style it if I wish! I just needed someone to cut it well. Because I was so happy with her, I started taking my 10 year old daughter with me. Alyssa remembers us by name, and we talk so much I feel like I know her family! My daughter looks forward to seeing her and catching up as much as I do. Alyssa is super friendly, unpretentious, and she is great at what she does. I highly recommend her. If you don't like something, just tell her and she will fix it for you. I truly feel she is so worth it!! I am updating from yesterday (7/19)'s visit for my touch-up. Alyssa was great from the start. I called on a Saturday morning to see if she had anything available and she did at 4:30p. At first all I wanted was a cut, then I decided why not color for my totally over-processed box color hair. I called her back, and she was completely accommodating and would do a cut and color. Now, please let me tell you that my hair had dark roots with the rest a bunch of shades of red brown a blonde from using box hair colors for the last year or so. I asked Alyssa to do a color that was going to match my roots as much as possible. Well, she completely did just that. I was so happy with the results! For my hair cut, I will have to say that to all you ladies who are growing your hair out, please do not wait forever like I did to get your hair trimmed. I had not cut my hair in over 8 months and the ends were like straw! I have natural kinky curly hair that is a fine texture, so the ends were always getting tangled since I had not gotten a cut in so long. Well, due to waiting so long, Alyssa had to cut off quite a bit, but now I will know never to wait so long to get trims, because then they turn into major cuts. read more

I love my hair. My friends and family members have taken my color and style by Alyssa. I have super thick hair I'm growing long again. Alyssa listens. When I say 1/4 inch trim...thats what she does, instead of lopping off a few inches as many stylists do. Color is what Alyssa does with a genious. I LOVE MY HAIRCUT! On my way to Monterey for a couple of days, I wanted to get my hair cut--it was WAY overdue. I looked at the Yelp reviews and chose Alyssa. I'm so glad I did. Everyone else was right: she is friendly and easy to talk with. But more importantly, after several years in and out of depression and gaining a lot of weight, I'd pretty much given up on feeling good about myself. This haircut changed that. The shape and texture fit me perfectly. The style was even better than what I thought I wanted and I think I even look a little younger! This is the best I've felt about myself in a long time and I'm so appreciative. It's by far, the best cut I've had in years and she styled it in a way that looked so good and was easy enough that I've been able to achieve it myself at home. Too a chance due to the reviews. Big Big Mistake!!! I arrived for a 3:30 appointment 10 minutes early due to traffic. As I pulled into the parking I received a text message indicating that Alyssa was running 20 minutes late due to the late arrival of her first appointment. I decided to wait as I do not live close by; however that was a mistake because she had only just started on her current appointment which was a foil dye that would be taking longer than the sated 20 minutes. After waiting 40 minutes I told her I was leaving at which she said she had only 5 more minutes left on this client who was still being wrapped with foil. Really!! I felt like I would be given a fast slap dash cut so that she could get back to her other appointment. I certainly will not be bothered to return to her facility to sit in extremely uncomfortable chairs and be told to read a magazine. read more

My experience with Alyssa was very disappointing. I read a lot reviews from Yelp, and I finally chose her to do my hair color. But unfortunately I'm super unsatisfied. She's so unprofessional, first she was 30mins late for our appointment, after that she didn't wear gloves because she had long nails, she spit water on my face when she washed off my hair. That's ridiculous. The worst part is doing my hair color, she couldn't choose the right color to my hair, after she done with my color, but it's totally opposite of what I want. And she roughly put some colors and redo again, she just so rushed to get finished, she didn't care about this would damage my hair and skin. I feel my scalp is burning and hurt so bad. After all of this, she still charged irrational price. I would never ever come back again, and I wouldn't recommend anyone to her if you want to do hair color. read more

It's hard to describe the relief I felt when I found Alyssa. I'd called stylist after stylist looking for someone to do wedding hair for me, my bridal party, and the mothers of the bride and groom on the day of my wedding in Monterey September 2013. Finding someone who does beautiful wedding hair wasn't THAT hard. Finding someone who does beautiful wedding hair who doesn't cost TWICE what my flowers cost or charge $300 for round-trip travel from the Bay Area is nearly impossible. It was important to me to find someone who could flawlessly execute soft curls, clean updos, clip-in extensions and short hairstyles, because I wanted all of the women in my wedding to feel comfortable with any hairstyle they chose, and I really wanted to find someone in my budget so that I could afford to pay for everyone's wedding hair styling. Enter Alyssa! Not only did Alyssa immediately answer her phone when I first called (some of the salons I called didn't respond for days, and one never replied!), she would also respond to texts super quickly and patiently answer all of my nervous-bride questions. She is extremely reasonably priced, and she charged a RIDICULOUSLY low price for a hair trial that lasted nearly two hours! The first style she created for me during my trial was terrific, but I ended up changing my mind the week before the wedding and the side updo she created for me the day of the wedding was even more beautiful than the half-up trial style. She worked from 9am to 3pm on all 8 of us, was patient and flexible when people requested changes, and gave everyone exactly what they wanted--whether they were in their 20s, 30s, 50s, or 60s. She's incredible with younger, edgier styles, extensions, updos, soft waves and half-up styles, and she made everyone look and feel beautiful. I would highly recommend Alyssa and I hope I have an occasion to use her again soon! read more
