I don't get my hair cut often because I tend to have negative experiences, and I don't usually write reviews, but I am disappointed with my experience at this business. I just moved to the area and was excited to have my first haircut in a while. Jay is an experienced hairdresser and gave me a great haircut. That being said, she was complaining that she didn't know my hair was long prior to the appointment and ended up charging me $155 for a simple layered haircut, no color. I even came to the appointment with my hair washed and still wet, and she insisted on washing it before cutting it. I was happy with my cut and asked the total, and she wouldn't say it while other clients were present. She handed me a calculator with the total on it (155) and wouldn't look me in the eye as I paid her. Again, it was a good haircut but very sad to leave the salon feeling like I was taken advantage of. I wanted this to be a place I could return but sadly I won't. I hope others can have a better experience. read more

I'd been planning to pay a visit to this salon after reviewing some of Jay's work on Facebook. I came in and instantly Jay greeted me and made the whole experience comfortable and very exciting. She really makes sure you want your hair the way you want by asking if you'd like it at this length or so, unlike many other hair dressers that wing it. Whole time Jay and I were laughing about some stories we shared and it was a very great time. By the time she was done with my hair it looked so beautiful! I thought I was going to get a pretty hair cut and it turned out to be 10x better than that. This place is truly a gem! And for reference, I only asked for a hair cut and this one was around $76 incase you were wondering the price range. I just looked at myself and wanted to cry. I'm not a fragile person, but the whole experience was upsetting, from overly personal questions, to cutting it way too short. She did ask what I wanted, which was a quick trim and clean up of my one-length, just below shoulder, thin, fine hair with bangs, and to keep it as long as possible. $65 later, though it looks healthier, it does not suit me this short at all. Hopefully the result will be that it grows out better, but I'll have a long unhappy wait while it does. read more

Jay was amazing! I have pretty difficult hair that hasn't been cut in years, but she did a beautiful job so quickly! She was so careful and thorough in making sure the cut worked for me. My daughter and I went to meet Jay at the Sunshine salon today. It was our 1st visit and we will definitely be returning for years to come. Jay is the sweetest lady you will ever meet and we're thrilled to become a part of her family. We haven't had our hairs cut in almost 2 years and we're very picky. It's very satisfying to meet a hair dresser who not only knows how to cut and style your hair but to meet someone who treats you as if you have known each other your whole life. She's amazing apart from the energy I've been horrible of noting down the times I come. I love how she treated me and my type which is thick and a bit corse and long of hair which I'm very picky as it isnt the first hairdresser who deliberately wants to chop it off. I actually also had Jay shave my entire head bald to donate my hair and she did such an amazing job it's growing back evenly and fast! Thank you Jay you're amazing. I got a hair cut here a year ago. I was visiting Monterey and while I was there my car broke down. So I had to stayed the night because my car was still in the shop. So in the morning I decided to walk around town. I was a little bummed about my car so I was a bad mood. Then I walked past a sign that said "walk ins welcome" at a random salon. So I decided to blindly get my hair cut without looking at the reviews (I was feeling reckless). I figured a hair cut might help me relax a bit. I have really curly hair and I've been turned away at salons before. Usually they tell me "I don't know how to cut your type of hair". The owner of this salon told me not worry and that she would take care of me. She did! I never felt more comfortable at salon before, she was very sweet and I really enjoyed talking to her. Most places I've been to cut my hair wet and send me on my away, once it dries it's uneven and I have to go back or just deal with it. My experience here was wonderful, she cut my hair and then dried it to see if it was uneven, she did a few more snips and once she was done cutting it, she styled my hair. What I enjoyed most was not feeling rushed, she took her time and made sure I was happy with the results. read more

I walked over to Shear Addiction and they were booked. They weren't very welcoming with their pretentious air. I decided to take a chance with Day at Sunshine Salon. Was I impressed. She takes a serious interest in the relationship and does excellent work. I felt anew after a shampoo and trim. She treated me kids with healthy snacks and engaged them in great conversation.
