I went here to get hair cut but I ended up doing color & perms for me and my kid. There was 2 ladies who speak different languages as helpers then Korean. One translating & supervising another lady. I tipped the owner $50 with credit card and had 2x $5 dollar bills. I wanted to tip the lady more who did most of the work to assist the owner because she was sweating. However, the owner said she will pay them so I gave her cash too. Then she gave each ladies $5 bill each. I explained to the lady I paid her more since I didnt have enough cash. I am sure the owner is generous enough to share the tips since the helper washed my hair multiple times, standing there to assist perms multiple times. I felt bad since I saw the supervisor helper cried and I over heard the owner said she will have to get rid of one of them. I am not so sure what's going on but I wished I had more cash so I can split them evenly. I am happy with my hair as well as my kid's hair and thankful for the flexibility to fit both of us. However, it was definitely not a pleasant experience to hear the owner training her staff especially in front of my kid. For the bad: I did get my haircut a lot shorter than I wanted (about 4 inches) and it is very uneven. Super short in the front and long in the back and looks super choppy??? I was in and out really quick... that concerned me because I felt like my person was rushing the hair cut. The quality of their service is not great There is a huge lot available so parking is not an issue. there is also water, tea, coffee, and some choco pies at the refreshment table. I am a true loyal fan of Hair World. I've been coming here since high school. 5 years later, I'm still coming here at least 3 times a year. The people working here are very sweet - although they might not speak fluent English, the service is still great. You just have to make sure to ask the manager to help translate if needed. The manager is my main hair stylist. She's good with assessing my hair and giving me suggestions for a healthier hair. For $30, I'm paying for a soothing hair wash and a detailed haircut. They always curl my hair at the end too :) love the curls! The boss lady sure knows how to make me happy. This is why I get my haircut here before I head to Vegas or to a big social event. WORTH THE MONEY! I also did Magic Straight here twice when I was in college. It was a bit pricey but it lasted pretty long. I probably wouldn't do it again - it really dried up my hair. read more

After paying for months worth of expensive $50 haircuts at overpriced japanese salons, going to a more low key style of hair place in the heart of ktown makes for a refreshing change of style and relief on the wallet. Cut & shampoo here costs only $15 and me not having a stylish coif, my needs aren't all that great. Cut, trim, buzz and I'm good to go. That's not to say they don't know how to style hair, but its done with that no-nonsense korean ajumah functional style, and I suspect over half their clientele are mothers similar in age to them. Still when I need a quick no nonsense cut, its hard to go wrong. Plus some of the stylists can speak english so no worried they will destroy your hair because of language issues. Parking is easy and free because its part of a large strip mall with its own lot and usually I'm able to find a spot right in front of the shoppe every time. Plus if you're hungry or want a coffee, there are cafes and korean food places adjoining either side, so not a bad place to be. read more

Holy cow A wash, cut, blow-dry and set for $30? Woot. Honestly I went to HairWorld because I was leaving for NY the next day and no other salons would take day-of appointments. I had low expectations but WAW, Min did a good job. Was a little stressed because I have wavy / course hair but dang, they took care of me. I didn't even bring a photo but the hair stylist understood what I wanted. She spent a lot of time razoring in the layers properly and asked me for input ect. One hot summer day, I looked in my rearview mirror as I was driving down the street and realized that my long hair was played out. It was dry, several different sun faded colors, and honestly just tired looking. (If you have had the same hair cut for more then a few years your hair is tired too.) I pulled over and like a beacon I saw the "Hair World" sign. Randomly, I walked in and said I need a cut and color. I took a few minutes to look through the hair magazines as Min finished up a client. When I sat down in the chair I asked her to give me a bob and showed her a photo. (I had below the shoulder long hair.) Min was a bit surprised I think, but she gave me my first short hair cut since I was a kid. I love it. My color is great too. I've gone back several times for a trim and each time I love it even more. My hair looks healthy and happy! She didn't try to sell me a bunch of products which I appreciate. The past two visits ended with extra styling because my hair doesn't behave easily. Min takes the time to perfect the cut, and she also gives me suggestions each time that are simple yet effective. English proficiency is high here for those who aren't fluent in Korean. Easy parking in lot on Western between 8th and 9th. Might be easiest to enter on 9th than the Western entrances. read more

I had went here before on a Thursday evening, and had a moderate-acceptable experience. This past Saturday my friend and I (needed haircuts badly) came in to a very busy rush hour. For about 10 minutes no one acknowledged our presence. Then Min finally looked over from the girl whom she was dying's hair. She said to come back and she would fit us in about 15 minutes. We left our phone numbers and walked around koreatown Assi Plaza to kill time(great market by the way) After 45 minutes had passed, she had not called. We returned to check in, and saw she had taken another customer. When we approached her to find out ETA on when she would be ready for us, she said it would be an hour. We quickly left dissappointed and had a wonderful experience at Etude Lougue on Wilshire and 6th Street. I would recommend either being Asian or making an appointment for a weekday when they are less busy. read more

I've been wanting to do my hair in LA for a reasonable price, and I looked on Yelp and found it. They had a website where I could get a discount, so I decided to go there. I would recommend that you make an appointment and also know a little Korean before you go there. It was a small shop located in K-town with lots of free parking. I met with Min and she greeted me with a smile and asked me what I needed to do with my hair. I got a straight perm done because that was the special. She got right at it-gave me a shampoo/rinse, trimmed some of my ends, and put in the treatment. She rinsed my hair and blow dried it. Then she flat ironed it and it turned out really nice. She told me that my hair was damaged from previous coloring and offered to give me half off the original price for my next treatment, which was a manicure (deep conditioning). She gave me a free coating (temporary coloring) on top of that. In the end I was very satisfied with my magic straight/coating/manicure. She did a great job with the time, overall it took 2.5 hours. Came across this place when I lived in the heart of Koreatown years ago. Now my friends and I are driving from forever just to fit into Min's super busy weekend. She has a $150 special for the Magic Straight Mon-Wed, she's usually off Thursdays, and her schedule is so packed on Fri & Sat that she charges extra just to discourage walk-ins. Make an appt and bring your charger bc this Japanese treatment takes a good 3 hours. Min puts the solution on your clean hair, taking the time to comb the Magic into place (soft curl on the bangs, etc), then let's it do it's thing. After wash, blow, and straightening, she then combs the neutralizer solution (and sometimes vitamin/keratin treatments on the damaged parts ) into your hair and leaves it to work again. After a second wash, blow, and straightening, your hair is super straight and insanely soft!! Brazilian blowouts are keratin treatments to relax and treat your cuticle, but these Japanese Magic Straight treatments are like perms, but smooth out the cuticle to make the hair straighter and healthier. Where my hair isn't damaged from dye and sun, the Japanese treatment makes it look like glass. On the damaged areas, Min works all kinds of wonders. She is soo knowledgeable about what happens to which kind of hair with the right blend of magic potions at the exact amount if time. I almost don't want her to get too popular because she's so busy already and it looks like so much hard work, but she likes doing it, and she can call in people to help her do the washing, blow drying, and straightening parts. This stuff works best on untreated, undyed hair, but Min can work with any of your hair problems. I always have my hair trimmed too, and my regular stylist closer to home always makes remarks about Min's great haircuts. Yeah, I know. I'm happy enough to share her with Yelp! Literally got a haircut here 10 minutes ago with Min and it turned out great! There was no one else there so she was very OCD with my hair, which I very much appreciated. I have long straight hair and she took off what must have been 10 lbs in 45 min. The service here is 4-5 stars. But because my hair looks like a mullet, I can't help but give it such a poor rating. I had John as the stylist... he seemed like he knew what he was doing. I brought in a picture of nicole richies long bob and told him thats what i wanted. He totally seemed like he understood. My hair was LONG... it was down to my lower back.. so this was a huge change for me. he started cutting and he was even throwing in fancy moves with the scissors and when he was done, the haircut appeared to look ok. I had a solid 4-star rating in mind when I walked out of the salon. Unfortunately, after I got home and washed my hair, i realized my hair was cut TERRIBLY. There were CHUNKS of my hair all throughout my head that were only an inch or so long... looking like a rat chewed through it. Unless i spend an hr straightening it, it honestly looks like a really bad mullet now. I try not to cry when i see my hair... and i can't wait for it to grow back. But you can get a coupon online for the first visit etc so it was a good deal. She did a good job on cut and perm. I would definitely go back. This place just gets worse. Had an emergency and had to opt to come here. The owner didn't want to help. Apparently she closes an hr earlier now, prices have gone up. She didn't want to help, and as I was in my car making a call, all she did was laugh with the person next to her and kept looking my way. I asked a friend who she did the exact same thing to. The bad thing is she put a cream on my friend's hair which made her hair fall and now has bald spots, but that's another story. This place is amazing! It's been my second time coming here so far and I'm just as happy as the first time I came in. Min is so patient and makes sure to leave you looking amazing. She pays close attention to details and gives you tips on styling once she's done. This will be the only place I go to for great hair cuts at super cheap prices! It's only 30 for a woman's haircut and that includes styling. Not like other salons that will charge extra just to blow dry your hair. I am seriously in love with my hair after coming to get it cut here!! I called and easily got an appointment on a Saturday afternoon. As soon as I walked in I was helped out by an older hairstylist. She washed and started cutting my hair right away! I was really attached to my long hair and it really took some guts for me to cut it off but the lady cut it exactly the way I wanted it and it was perrrrrfectt. Considering the fact that my hair was extremely long $40 for a cut seems really reasonable. The stylist even gave me a chocolate bar! After looking through yelp for an affordable, good hairstylist in Koreatown I decided to visit Hair World because of the great reviews. I had really long hair with damaged ends from dyeing it before. I was 30 mins late to my appointment because of traffic, but Min was nice about it and I just had to wait a little bit for my turn. I wanted to keep the length of my hair so she trimmed only as much as I requested which is cool since many hairstylists usually chop away more than you ask. I came back a couple weeks later to dye my hair dark brown and to get another trim because she was right...my hair was just too dead. Very happy with my haircut and style from Min. I live in the area, and was happy to find an affordable place with such great reviews for women's hair cuts within walking distance. Min was very nice, professional, and gave me exactly what I wanted. The hair wash was like getting a scalp massage. I brought in my headshot and said I want to keep as much length as possible without looking dramatically different from the picture. This might sound simple, but the last 3 places failed and kept adding in even harsher layers after I told them I was trying to grow the layers out. We discussed some of her suggestions if I ever decide it's worth it for me to change all my headshots and casting agency profile pics, and I think she'd be really good for someone looking for a new look as well. She noticed my hair was looking a little sad, and I admitted I was having a hard time finding a really good shampoo with all my special hair needs that I could afford. Fixed my botched perm here. I came for a trim but Cecilia said I should do a BB (?) treatment on my hair. She said it wouldn't just nourish but straighten it out too. First I said no but she kept insisting while trimming off my crunchy tips. I was hesitant but I gave in knowing I would have come back to try anyways. And I'm glad I did. it took at least 3-4 hours of hair straightening and chemical infusions. But when I left that day with my pocket $150 lighter, I couldn't stop threading my fingers through my hair. It's so buttery soft and straight. It's been 6-8 weeks since then and I don't regret it.
