Alex (aka The Homie) and I have only amazing raves for Lisa at this particular Hair Masters location in Shoreline. Convenient location and hours and very clean salon! Why? She's very personable and professional. Her training and experience demonstrates her goal to give you the best outcome during your appointment. Lisa will work with you, but will provide additional recommendations based on your head/facial features and hair type (texture, density). By working well as a team and communicating clearly the service you came in for, this should guarantee you'll look better than when you first came in. I've seen her work with kids, teens, and adults. She's also great at mentoring and providing technical tips for newer stylists. Alex has been in for hip stylish haircuts, spot color, brow wax, and shave. Goes in scruffy and Lisa makes him the handsome guy he is afterwards, but then I'm biased as his mom. Me - I became a convert after my long time stylist moved to Marysville. I've seen Lisa for haircuts and 3 or 4 sessions thus far for color. I also opt for the extra conditioning which comes with the epic head massage! Her work is so seamless, that often no one has noticed anything drastic. I can ask for an inch off and touch up on the layers and it's not a hack job or uneven sheep shearing. After an appointment, my hair feels healthier, manageable, and overall Goldilocks just right. She gets it and that happens either as a first time or repeat client. I've also purchased shampoos, conditioners, and other hair products for both me and Alex that are competitvely priced, versus going to Ulta, a grocery or drug store. There are often sales and promotions going on, so one can easily stock up. We're both not fussy about our hair. However, Lisa has developed a rapport over the years, that she knows both of our quirky sense of humor, personalities, and knows how to help us look our best. Moved here from another state 5 years ago in need of a hairdresser. Initially, I was in search of a salon that used the same hair products my previous hairdresser used. Found Hairmasters, booked an appointment with Kennah at the Aurora location, and have been with them ever since. Kennah is amazing. She's been a whiz at every style she's created for me. I'm super picky about my hair and my hair is difficult to work with. I've observed other stylists at this salon and they appear to do a great job on their clientele as well. read more

I've gone here three times, the first time was ok, the worker was hard to understand. The second time I waited almost an hour to get my sons hair cut. Third time I was turned away, there was one person working and she said she didn't have time. Unfortunately this is the last time I come here. My son really didn't like it anyway, Nana seemed a little cranky like she really doesn't like working here. The atmosphere is a boring one. Terrible haircut. I'm not picky. Just keep it even and able for me to ponytail it. I ended up getting a second haircut somewhere else the same day. I tipped and didn't complain... But it's like yelling at your grandma and telling her you hate her cooking. She was so nice. Biggest beef: wetting my bangs to cut them. Anyone who has had bangs knows to do it dry or it ends up too short. Plus she pulled super taut when cutting them which made the angle weird. Based on other reviews, the same lady seems to have frequent issues. read more

My Mom also came in for a fresh cut and some new styling, and Lisa was able to balance the both of us. Nice people in general but the gal I had messed up my hair very badly right from the start. She used a #2 after I told her to use a #4, and she admittedly called it to my attention half-way through the haircut. She then proceeded to to butcher my head to make everything proportionate to her #2....thus taking my "trim" - which is what I stated - to a butchering. If I ever go to another HM, I will only look for people who have been cutting hair longer than 5 years as the inexperience is crawling all over this place....in each location. read more

I have been to the Shoreline location 4 times. Had to change hair salons for $$$ factor. I have had Kennah twice, Nana once and Marie once for simple short hair trim. Kennah TOP NOTCH Marie GOOD Nana NEVER AGAIN! Price very reasonable, location for me good, but parking can be a challenge sometimes. Call and make an appt. DON'T GO HERE! RUN! SERIOUSLY JUST RUN! Ok, now that you know how I feel I'll tell you why. Nana is the devil. Here's the proof. I went in with hair past the bottom tips of my shoulder blades that was a faded out red with an inch or more of grow out showing roots. I told her I wanted a chocolate brown over everything and NO CUT. I repeat NO CUT!!!!! Pay attention, that becomes important later. This isn't my regular salon, I got funds the day before my sister's wedding to spruce up my locks. My regular salon didn't have any last minute openings, understandably. At the only place with an opening, Hair Masters, what should have been a simple dye job went horribly wrong. My sister's wedding photos have the proof, forever. She made a color mix *before* I'd told her what color I wanted and then was pissed she had to pour it out cause she'd mixed a red. She mixed what she told me was the color I'd chosen, she mixed a whole bowl for the strand test I insisted on. I'm so glad I didn't let her just do my whole head like she was pushing for because the hair came out all the way black, blue undertone, everything. I asked her if that was the color I'd chosen, she admitted she went to a darker tone cause she likes black hair. I asked her to make the right color please, she complained about wasting product and she was going to have to charge me more for it. I told her she wasn't, I was very polite but I made it clear that her mistake was not my fault. She said she made the right color this time and that Nana would take care of me. ! I didn't know what she had done while it was wet so I hadn't gotten the opportunity to simply run. She was standing behind me brushing out my hair after the wash out and condition, and I hear a snip. She reaches her hand over and says, "I just want to cut this much off." I freak out internally but managed not to curse or yell and reminded her I didn't want a hair cut. She said she wouldn't take more than that and she wouldn't charge me, just to even it up and get rid of the split ends. My hair now juuuuust passes and brushes my shoulders. I was sobbing. I don't cry about hair, I'm not that girl, I'm not the girl who freaks out over a trim. She lopped off a huge amount of my hair. By the time my hair was done being butchered it had dried and it was redder than it had been on arival and you could still see my freaking roots. They aren't the same color red as the rest of the hair, most importantly, its not brown like I asked for. I asked her what she did and she said she added red because that was how you cover red is red with a little brown in it. This is patently untrue as any stylist can tell you. You dye hair brown by using BROWN DYE!!! OK yelling over. She then tried charging me 150 when they had told me 45 on the phone. I was about to walk out when she offered a discount and I asked her why I should pay her and she said she would call the police. She discounted it to 55 for the color and conditioning treatment which I honestly should not have paid her. I found out that her cutting my hair like that is actually assault and if she had called the cops she would have gone to jail. So basically the best thing to do is never step foot in this place because if they keep Nana there the others can't be much better. Unless of course you want to be lied to, ripped off, hair butchered, insulted and assaulted. I'll be going in on her day off to get my money back, and if they argue, I'll just use the purchase protection on my credit card. I should have just run. read more

Where do I begin? My girlfriend went Hair Masters in Shoreline. Both stylists were busy but one of them (her name was Nana) rushed over to my girlfriend and told her that she would be next and that if the other stylist finished first that she should tell her that she is waiting for Nana. Seemed aggressive but, ok, whatever. My girlfriend wanted her hair to be lightened to a dark blond all over, nothing special. Long story short, Nana had her blow drying and brushing or her own hair. It took over four hours and the result was the top of her head looks like a pumpkin and the rest of her hair is still brown. Nana seemed like she didn't want to do the hair at this point and told my girlfriend to come back at nine the next morning, an hour before they were open. She charged her a hundred dollars. Needless to say, my girlfriend was very sad. She put her hood on and came home crying. We came back the next day and apologized but told her we would like a refund. She was furious. We understand that it took a long time but we explained it also cost us that time, cost money and her hair looks terrible. Nana complained and was rather nasty about it. She never once said she was sorry. In fact, she blamed my girlfriend for the color she had picked out. What a horrible experience. read more

I asked nana to give me dark warm undertones and warm blond highlights. I told her I wanted my hair done with foil. Small of amounts of my hair to be colored and dyed. She said, "okay". During the first half of the duration she sighed heavily(which I felt was rude of her) she had told me, "you have too much hair." - repeatedly. I asked her to be gentle with my hair and to not yank on my hair because I have a very sensitive scalp. She had made my scalp tender. She had rinsed my hair the first time with warm water. During this time she said she was finished. She died my hair & I had examined my hair. I started to look through the layers of hair to look for the colorant I had asked for. I saw a huge blotch of blond on my head. It was horrible! I saw two streaks of yellow in the back of my head. I saw that my scalp was red(it is still red). Nana said she would fix it. Once, again I entrusted her to fix my hair. Nana has repeatedly yanked on my hair during the whole duration of her "trying" to get my hair right. She had rinsed my hair with cold water two times, She had made me feel so nervous, that she would mess up my beautiful long hair. I was having anxiety attacks which caused me to cry. That section of my hair which was a blotch of white blond is now orange. She told me I had to pay her because she had spent a long time on my hair. I wasn't going to tip her -she asked me "why".. I gave her a $10.00 tip which she didn't deserve. My hair colorant is not what I had asked for. I have to pay someone else to redo my hair because what Nana did was AWFUL! I will never comeback to Hair Masters again. I have already told 20 people what has transpired in the Hair Masters Salon, Shoreline. I work at Safeway in Shoreline. There a lot of people who come through my line. I was asked by two stylist, "what happened to you're hair, Shan?" I told them. They both offered to come to my house and fix my hair. read more

I find I'm partially to blame. Did I seriously expect my son to come out of Hair Masters with a good hair cut? Well, actually I did...So, I must of forgotten where I was. Hair Butchers is more like it. Should I have to go home and even up my sons hair cut? Should It be 2 inches longer on one side than the other? Should there be tufts of hair sticking out randomly? Is this a new hair style? I think not. Should he have to wear a hat to school because hes too embarrassed for anyone to see his hair? No he shouldn't. Did I learn a valuable lesson? Yes. First time here awesome. Second not so much. The younger gal running this place I assume shes the manager clearly needs help prioritizing. I came in only wanting a hair straightening. I just pay someone here to do it whenever I feel like because they do a better job. I have thick hair. My ten dollar straigtening turned into a 27 dollar haircut and shampoo. The older lady doing my hair was not the same one as last time. I took her because I didnt wanna wait two hours. I still waited a half hour because the manager decided to write me down and not write that I wasnt waiting for anyone in particular. The lady who cut my hair said it was greasy and needed shampooing. I reluctantly agreed. She then took off two inches which I didnt want done. I agreed to it because she said I had split ends. I was thinking that she was only doing a little. My hair didnt even turn out nearly as straight as last time. It felt even thicker and flipped out at the bottom. She hurt my head several times with the brush and pulling it. I even tipped but I didnt want to be mean because they are so nice. I wish I waited for the asian lady with the arm tattoos because she knew how to make my hair look great and the person who did it this time did not. I believed her when she said she does hair for 35 years but it didnt even turn out right. I left dissapointed. read more

Let me start by saying I am a perfectionist when it comes to my hair. I had been getting my hair done at a "high end salon" for several years, until my stylist stuck her nose up at me, while in line at the grocery store. Being without a salon, and needing my hair done, I thought I would give Hair Masters a try. That was four years ago. Nana was my stylist then and is still my stylist. I have told her that she can never retire! She colors my hair, does full highlights, and cuts and styles my hair. If I want a certain look she will continually ask and question the look I'm trying to achieve while she is working on my hair. She does a beautiful job, and takes a lot of time in doing my hair. The color is perfect and so is the cut. She strives for "my" perfection. I get compliments all the time on my hair and people are always asking me where I get my hair done. I tell them I get it done at Hair Masters on 185th and Aurora by Hair Stylist, Nana. The many hours that I have spent at this salon, I have yet to see one person, in my opinion, walk out of there with a bad hairstyle or color. All the stylists follow each customers request, and I'm sure if anyone is dissatisfied, they always make it right. But like I said everyone I see looks good leaving the salon! So, give them a try. And if you don't like waiting make an appointment because they can get busy. And if you have a hard time understanding someone's English, try harder, it's worth the effort! I have gone to this same place 3 different times now with the same unimpressive results. The hair cut is not bad but WOW the attitude certainly is. I went in myself for a haircut and was treated like I was in the way and a bother. I brought my son in with the same results. Finally I went in with my wife only to find out that a certain hair treatment she asked about is "very expensive". What?!?! What is this Pretty Woman? Well the 7 hair salon down the road apparently accepts money and we were more than happy to give it to them. Save yourself the pain and go elsewhere, anywhere else. read more

I went to hairmasters because I was impatient and wanted my hair cut short again. I had been growing it out for over a year and my ends were just frustrating me. I went with my family for a fun memorial day weekend treat. Everyone got their hair cut. I had a picture of what I wanted. Short, just below the jaw, slightly A symmetrical with very little layers (longer layers). I ended up with a choppy mess. Nana kept trying to sell me products while she was washing and cutting my hair. If I needed products I would have asked what she recommended. The cut is so choppy, the layers are so short in the back and then there are no layers in the front. She didn't dry it so I didn't even realize how bad it was until I got home to dry it myself. I tried everything when it came to styling it, you can see all of the blunt layers, I ended up just doing a half up, half down bun because that's all I can do. I am so upset, the only way it can be fixed is if I had a pixie cut, so I just get to wait till it grows out a bit and I will be going anywhere but hairmasters when I think it can be fixed without chopping it all off. read more

Do not have the older, dark haired woman cut your hair! She is a bit rude and she does NOT listen to what you're telling her about the cut you want. I came out looking like Betty Boop and the little Dutch Boy ( on paint cans). Terrible cut and looks pretty bad. Done with this place. I don't trust everyone at Hair Masters, but Kennah is the best stylist I've found anywhere who can do a good job with my teen son's difficult hair. When she cuts his hair, it always looks great. My husband says he gets a good haircut from one of the other stylists as well. read more

I went here yesterday and got a major haircut from Kennah. I explained to her exactly what I wanted and came in with a picture to kind of help see what I was hoping to get in my haircut. She was so patient and never once talked down to me or interrupt. I was afraid that was going to happen, because some stylists have a bad habit of doing that to their clients. Luckily, she isn't one of them, and I really appreciated it. With my requests, she gave me exactly what I wanted, and I was very happy! I'll definitely be making an appointment with her in the future if I want to keep this haircut (which I probably want to). Hair Masters isn't some high-end salon, and while some people get a negative experience with a stylist, that doesn't mean that the others in the same salon are just as bad. My boyfriend is deaf- he needed a quick haircut so we decided to go there after visiting Sprint store closeby. The hairsylist in her mid 50's seemed distraught by him being deaf. Using different communication method wasn't something she was being used to so she became tense. She started to treat him like he was a child (he's 35 years old) when he asked her to not to cut his hair little too much. We weren't questioning her work but looked like she felt that way. She moved his head tensely and finally when she was done- she handed him the mirror and told him, no I mean, demanded him to use the mirror to look at back of his head from the another mirror when he was looking at himself- what I mean is, she touched the mirror while he was holding it and moved it to another side without his permission. She didn't' give him some time, didn't shampoo his hair; used water spray instead. I just felt that she was being spiteful and impatient with Anthony just because of his disability. do not go there if you want someone understanding and warm. read more

DON'T use Hanna. She is a really nice lady so this is no reflection on her personally. But my opinion is the hairstyling business is not for her. She really made a mess of my hair. It was a struggle all the way through. I only did a color and style job. She didn't let the conditioner sit on my hair but instead rinsed it almost immediately and still left color on my head when she was ready to style, so she had to rinse me again. After she finished rinsing it out, she could barely get a comb through it and kept pulling at my hair. My hair has been falling out as it is, which I had let her know, and when I got home, it looked thinner than ever before at the top! Very disappointing! The blow dryer was very hot and she burned my scalp. She styled on high the whole time. The style was ok, but rather frizzy, and I was afraid she was going to make my hair look frizzy like her hair if I let her go on any longer. Also, I had told her in the beginning that I had an appointment coming up and asked if I could get done in about an hour. She said yes. But she was so slow that the whole appointment ended up taking 2 hours, and I didn't even have a hair cut. In fact, the whole salon seemed inept. They had lots of people waiting but only a couple of stylists working. And no receptionist. I saw a lot of people leave who got frustrated with the wait, and / or no acknowledgement from the stylists that they were even there. There didn't seem to be any type of system for checking in, and if there was, none was mentioned. If anything, the stylists would mention to the customers that they would be with them shortly, and then wouldn't. Or they would tell them to come back later. This salon really needs at least 4 stylists working AND a receptionist. They are missing a lot of business for a "walk-in" type of salon. I wouldn't waste my money or time going to this salon. read more
