Megan is the best! When we moved here I had been working FT, parenting and had just let a lot of stuff go by the wayside. I was nervous to try and update my hair a little while finding a manageable style long term. Megan came highly recommended and I'm so glad I found her. She can pull of some really daring colors and styles, but also finds ways to make my (boring) style look fresh. Recently she suggested some highlights to help blend my gray hairs. She's taken me on a journey through a rainbow of color, as well as giving me the perfect blonde-brunette foil combo, full blonde... the works. Shabby treatment. I have been visiting this salon quarterly for 6+ quarters (I think), and Jamie was the only one I have found who could manage my hair. However, today I received treatment that made me feel bad and burdensome. My hair takes just a couple of minutes to wash and about 15-20 minutes to cut. Today, she stops in the middle of the wash to go chat with a customer who came in an hour and a half early. Then, about 5 minutes into my cut, she stops to chat with another customer who was planning to get her hair colored purple. My stylist spent 10 minutes talking to the other customer about options while I waited, then she disappeared to apparently help the other customer's stylist get the color or something. I had to ask another stylist if she was coming back, and when she did, I asked her to stay and finish mine. "I HAD to help my coworker with the customer!" is what she told me. I allowed as how I'd like her to finish my cut, and that shouldn't be asking too much. I don't think I was being too demanding. . . The rest of the short visit I felt bad, like I had done something wrong, but I hadn't. The haircuts here are too pricey, and the standard tip that pops up on the payment app is too high, to go somewhere that is supposed to be relaxing and end up feeling like I was somehow imposing on my stylist. I told a few friends and they all, to a one, suggested finding another stylist. I won't be back. read more

I tried this salon shortly after moving to Seattle in October of 2012. While the girls here are super nice, I left the salon and cried after my first haircut and color. In fact, I cried every morning as I got ready for a week before I called to let the salon know I was not happy with my hair. The problem: I have fine brown hair that is cut in pretty basic long layers (my hair was about halfway down my back) with natural looking highlights and lowlights. I brought the color formula from my previous stylist and pictures of my hair after a fresh haircut. The color was blotchy, but what was devastating was how she cut my hair with this blunt shelf at the jaw line. The owner offered to do a free corrective appointment, but with the chaotic schedules of the holidays I didn't get in until Jan 2013. I sat down in the chair and she basically begun cutting without telling me what she was doing. She cut into/thinned the 'blunt shelf' in an attempt to blend it a bit better. unfortunately, since I already had thin hair, it now just looked horrible scraggly in the ends and really from the jaw line down. She retouched the color which made it slightly better. In the end I flew out of state to my old hairdresser back home, and ended up needing about 6 inches cut off to repair the damaged look from the thinning. Almost a year later, my hair is still growing out from a bad decision to try Fredrick's. I feel terrible posting this because they are so nice, but would hate for this to happen to someone else. read more

The price here for a brazilian blowout is GREAT, but the service itself is not so much. They really, really skimped on the product and of course, the results were virtually nonexistent. I had it done at Frederick's a while ago, so perhaps they have been more through with this service, however the impression they left on me has made me hesitate to return again. I went to her in Seattle for 4 years and now that I'm down in Portland I sincerely miss being able to go to her salon, it's probably the biggest thing I miss! She is incredible with hair & color, I never had to think twice about how I wanted it cut or what color to do, she made suggestions seasonally and I constantly got compliments. I have yet to find anyone that can do blowouts as well as she can and her prices are SO cheap!! It's actually amazing how much she charges. Andi's a cool lady and she saved this 8 months-pregnant woman from a heat stroke! The combination of prenatal vitamins and pregnancy hormones turned me into a disheveled Rapunzel. Combine that with the crazy hot weather we've been having and I was liable to melt. It was really nice to chat with her while she cut my hair, and she did a fabulous job. She knew exactly what she was doing -- did a lot of lightening with layers, but kept it long enough for me to pull it up into a bun if I needed to. I had to gave it a five star. My experience was amazing there is nothing wrong, not a single thing, with Mallory. I am pleased! I always wanted to have blonde strips on my hair or a Balayage but when I went for consultation in another salon, they told me it's not possible because I have a really dark hair. So I put it off until now. Mallory at Frederick's was amazing, she understands and achieved this great color on my hair. Mallory gives you what you want and that dream hair of yours is achievable with her. Mallory is also such a sweet heart. Crystal is a genius. I started visiting her to get the Brazilian Blowout based on a friend's recommendation. The BB makes my hair incredibly soft, smooth and frizz free - for three whole months! For the first time, I can actually air dry my hair if I want to. It is literally life changing - that's no exaggeration! Today though, I sprung for bangs. Crystal knew exactly the style I was looking for, gave me honest tips about what would work for me, and then cut them perfectly. She went so far as to show me how to blow dry them and even give me some tools I could use to get them just right. Good little salon but don't expect any of the fancy stuff. This a true blue down to the basic salon that will get your hair did'done. I would classify this as a neighborhood salon. Upon walking in, I was a little put off when I saw a bunch of old ladies walking around with those super perms, the place reeked of chemicals, and was pretty cramped. I almost turned to pass but I had a voucher to use and my stylist was friendly. Bottom line: I've got nothing against the stylists here, they are all well trained and friendly, I just wasn't impressed with the products used, the small space, and basically just wasn't my vibe. Crystal, Desiree, and Leah were such a pleasure to work with. I did a hair and makeup trial with Crystal (only $100 for both)--which gave me confidence that I would look stunning on the wedding day. The three ladies came to our hotel room at the Pan Pacific and got right to work--doing hair and makeup for 8 women including myself, the moms, and my bridesmaids. After searching around I found Fredericks of Greenwood. I booked an appointment with Mallory (+1 for ease of online booking) due to her glowing reviews online. Parking was easy and I was able to get in and out in no time. Mallory was sweet and genuine, a pleasure to chat with, and gave me a wonderful cut! I asked for some layers to lighten the load of my hair and a touch up on my self cut bangs (yeah, I decided to do that to myself) just in time for a New Years Eve show. This review is for on-site Wedding make-up with Crystal... Crystal was right on time and got to work on my make-up. She was thoughtful, kind, and funny and did an amazing job. I asked a lot of questions (since I can't do my own make-up to save my life) and she answered and explained everything that she was doing. (Note to self: schedule a session with her to learn how to do make-up). I felt absolutely beautiful. One word, JAMIE. Seriously, she is amazing. She does my cut and color, as well as my husband's cut (she's versatile, see.) I lucked into her over 5 years ago when she worked at a salon a few blocks from my home. When she moved to Fredericks and I realized I would have to bus or drive to her, losing the convenience of walking, it was a no-brainer. I trust her, she listens to my concerns (read, lack of desire to do anything that takes more than 3 minutes) and always makes my hair look terrific. You can schedule on-line, and I love that convenience. She is super accommodating, and I just adore her. I have recommended her to a very hard to please co-worker, who is very satisfied. *All of the beauticians seem wonderful, I can just only vouch for Jamie. The salon is bright, clean and organized. I can't even explain how lucky I feel that I a friend referred me Crystal at Fredericks of Greenwood about a year and a half ago. I was a new mom and hadn't had my hair done in almost a year. After some waiting, she paused her other customer to quickly trim my hair. She was in a big hurry, the trim was sloppy. She is super knowledgeable, and I walked out of there with a nice color and cut...blue hair gone. I went back this week for a touch up and a cut. She gave me another great color and cut. I love it!! Update: I spoke with Heather and she had me come so that she could look at my hair. Unfortunately, the Brazilian Blowout didn't work for me--but she was kind and helpful and offered me a full refund. I'm updating my review to 4 stars because even though my hair didn't turn out right, they were super professional and kind at Frederick's and that matters a lot to me. Original: I got the Brazilian Blowout at Frederick's just under two weeks ago. However, like other reviewers here (I'm now realizing), it had little effect. My hair is normally wavy, so I didn't expect it to be straight after the treatment--just less frizzy. But my hair is just as frizzy as before and I'm out $230. My hair looks much the same if not a little more dry and frizzy. Heather was my stylist and was very friendly; however, the results she gave me were disappointing. She also scalded my scalp a few times with steam when she was blow drying and flat ironing--not sure if that's a normal hazard of the Brazilian Blowout, but it happened a few times (including after I mentioned it to her). read more

Leah is absolutely fantastic! How, you ask? Let me count the ways: 1) Haircut genius. My layers are always perfectly cut and look effortless and carefree, just the way I like them and provide amazing volume and body to my notoriously flat-in-the-winter hair. 2) Sassy blow-outs. Okay, I know using the word "sassy" is pretty cheesy, but there's really no other word I can use. I feel like a million bucks after Leah's done with my hair-- it's bouncy and the ends curl just right. After my last haircut/blowdry, boyfriend said I could be in hair commercials. That's an especially good compliment considering my hair was damaged beyond comprehension before going in. 3) Amaaaazing colour. I promise. You can get foils and allover colours pretty much everywhere, but Leah also does balayages which allow for way more control over how you manipulate colour placement. The technique results in a more blended and natural look which is pretty important for me because it makes grow-out a lot softer and roots are less harsh. In addition to her technique, Leah is attentive and perky and becomes a friend in addition to being an amazing stylist. She has an educational background in fashion so she has a great eye for design and keeps up with industry trends while bringing her own creativity into the picture. You can tell right off the bat that she truly loves what she does and it's translated perfectly into a great new look (or improvement on a classic). read more
