They let us do the soups one-by-two which was great because sometimes the appetizer portions can be so large that you don't have too much room for the entree. The half soup size per person was still generously portioned. I had the Singapore noodles with chicken. They tasted similar to Ramen noodles with curry powder, but without the water. Well this place is super bizarre for starters. Definitely strip mall Chinese ambiance, but many people calling for pick up so that is good? Also Indian, Chinese, halal... Anyway, somewhat clean, one guy running the whole shop and not overly helpful when asking him about what is popular or for recommendations. But after using Yelp, thought we would try the soup and the spring roll for starters. Schezuan spring roll was super good. Crispy, different flavor, tasty sauce. Sweet corn soup was also very good, creamy and interesting. Now the hot garlic momos were eh... can't put my finger on it, but just eh. Veggie Schezuan was OK but soooooo much gravy. Tell them half for sure. Semi spice but seriously swimming in gravy so just visually deterrent. Then tried the chicken manchurian because that was highly recommended. Have been going to Hakka Wok for at least 15 years now. Their lunch specials are definitely worth it! I love all their veggie dishes. So many options for vegetarians. There used to be a legendary Indo-Chinese restaurant in this complex called the Hot Wok Village.. that place is now defunct but the owner Joseph Lee retells that legend with his, Hakka Wok restaurant. I dined-in here for Father's Day weekend and was met with nostalgia as all the items we ordered retained the same great taste from years past. We stuck to the vegetarian menu and loved every bit of it: - Sweet Corn Soup (pro tip, add some vinegar from the green spice condiment to this) - Veg. Szechwan Spring Roll - Veg. We started off with the calamari appetizer. I love spice but my husband does not. The calamari itself was not spicy but the veggies that were served with it packed some heat, so we were both pleased with this appetizer and would eat it again for sure! I ordered the dry paneer with chili sauce (spicy), I added mixed veggies for $1 more and loved it! The dry paneer was in small dice sized cube and were nice and crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. I would eat this again for sure! My husband had the combo fried rice (mild) the texture was great, and very flavorful m, he highly recommends it! He would have it again for sure. Coming here for lunch, I chose to order one of their lunch specials. Frankly, looking at the prices on their dinner menu I felt they were on the high end. Their selection on the dinner menu was much more appealing and what was on the lunch special menu was about what you would expect from any other Chinese Restaurant. The soup of the day was Hot and Sour, which was okay - not as spicy as typical from other local places. They were a little light on the vegetables but the tofu was great. The Spring Roll was also good and with the mix of Indian and Chinese, they had some interesting and different sauces other than simply sweet sauces and mustard. As for the meal, I was disappointed in the General Tso's Chicken. For deep-fried, which I don't often get, the chicken was kind of "mushy". The sauce was good, and the rice that came with it was also good. If you are looking for a beautiful restaurant of this sort, Bamboo Chopsticks had a better decorator. This has the old, Chop Suey feel to it. Small, tightly packed laminated tables. An old feel. But, sometimes these are the best and most authentic. But, I wouldn't say this met that bar. read more

Ordered for carry out on Father's day Sunday. We were not so impressed, hot and sour soup was very plain and missing vegetables. Vegetable Bhazzia in Mancurian sauce was more sauce than Bhazzia and tiny not the typical meatball size as you would expect. Szechuan noodles were missing the red sauce, dry, plain and overcooked didn't have that crisp. Seems like this chef is still in training. I would not recommend this place. read more

Food was rank. As in like smelled at least 2-3 days old, maybe a week! The quality has gone down since we last came here a year or two ago. All the food had a sourish smell and taste to it, as if it had been cooked a long time ago. We tried to bring up with the person behind the register that the noodles smelled rancid and none of us could eat it and he told us it "is the smell of garlic". Probably the single worst restaurant food we've eaten, ever. Ordered 7-8 things. 2-3 were insipid at best, and the rest were straight inedible. Most things were drowning in way too much garlic. We left our meal midway and went to another restaurant. Ours was a large group - 6 people - and everyone felt the same...no exceptions. Typically we love "indo-chinese" food. Just not from here. Excellent stuff I am a huge fan of Indo Chinese food , and this place delivered exactly what I was looking for from a long time. Most of the Indo Chinese places put too much sugar and vinegar in their dishes which I am not a big fan of ,I love how this place had authentic spicy savoury sauces which was neither sweet nor sour. We ordered lunch specials Bhazzia Manchurian & Chilli Chicken . I was expecting them to be super spicy after reading other reviews but they were mild to me . We also got fried spring rolls and soups with our lunch specials Manchow & Hot and Sour soups were great. Bhazzia Manchurian was excellent , i loved every thing about it, no wonder its their best seller. Its basically Vegetable Manchurian in other places but called Bhazzia( fritters) here . The restaurant is indeed owned by the previous manager of Hot Wok Village. The food is almost identical to the food served at Hot Wok Village. The dishes, I would say were improved upon. I immediately noticed the quality of chicken they used is much better. The Manchow soup was a perfect start to my lunch considering how cold the day was. The broth was rich and spicy. The Szechuan noodles are just as I remembered them. Spicy with just a hint of sweetness. A very unique dish you wouldn't find at a Chinese restaurant. My favorite dish though, is their signature Chili Chicken. The exemplary Indo-Chinese dish is their best as well. The crunch of the onions, and the bite of peppers play a great complement to the very savory, satisfying chicken. Dont' waste your time at Bamboo Garden. Come here. read more

I've been here a few times and it's been a hit or a miss for me in the past and hence why I lean towards Bamboo Garden. This last time we ordered it was prob the best compared to past meals here. The spiciness was spot on and it was delish! Here is what we ordered: -vegetable bhaijya manchurian (gravy): this is my fav dish at all indo-chinese restaurants so you can't go wrong -Ginger fried rice: this took me back to when hot wok was open -garlic noodles: I thought this was a good combination with the other flavorful dishes -we also got the chili chicken and manuchurian chicken (gravy) and honestly they both tasted the same. I always like going to Chinese restaurants with at least 2-3 friends, since that way you could all share and try a variety of dishes. Well this is an Indian-Chinese joint and the food is a bit different. We all started with some Man Chow Soup, which was a very hearty soup, with crunchy noodles and cilantro (which gave great flavor). And yes, that's what it's actually called. - Chili Beef (dry): pretty good, had a good kick. You could really feel the heat inside. - Mongolian Trio: shrimp, chicken, and beef, which was really good. - General Tsos' Chicken: A bit different then the traditional battered nuggets. These were lightly breaded thin pieces of chicken, in a tasty light sweet sauce. I reminded me more of Sweet & Sour Chicken. - Burnt Garlic Fried Rice w/ shrimp: Had good sized pieces of shrimp mixed in. It was a heaping plate of tasty garlic fried rice. I probably wouldn't have this for lunch before returning to work.. super garlicky. It was a bit pricier than your average Chinese restaurant, but these aren't your typical dishes. Indian Chinese cuisine is one of favorite marriages of flavors and cooking styles. I was extremely saddened by the closing of Hot Wok Village ((RIP)), but was ecstatic to discover Hakka Wok. Sadly, I was hoping that my review would be at least a star higher, since this fairly new addition to Schaumburg is owned and operated by the previous manager and executive chef at Hot Wok Village. Sigh... I think I'm still torn between 3 and 4 stars. I went with a friend for dinner and we decided on sharing a few dishes so we could try more than one or two things ((the smart thing to do)). We each ordered a veggie spring roll. She prefers the spicier things in life, and ordered hers Szechuan style. We both agreed we loved them. I also went for a cup of veggie wonton soup. It was standard. Nothing special. For our entrees we ordered the Singapore noodles with chicken and Kung Pao tofu. The noodles were delish and had just the right amount of curry. You could also tell the chicken was extremely fresh. The Kung Pao Tofu left me with mixed emotions. The flavor was good, but there wasn't much in the way of sauce. It was more of a dry rub. The tofu was also fried which wasn't indicated on the menu. There also appeared to be way more tofu than veggies. Since my bf was at home wishing he was out for girls night ((well, at least at Hakka Wok)), I decided to do a good girlfriend deed and bring him home dinner. He wanted an order of the Chicken Lollipops and Manchurian Noodles. He apparently loved them both. I tried the Manchurian noodles and thought they were good - but felt it was just your standard Lo Mein noodles with a kick. Meh. The prices are fairly reasonable. Especially for the amount of food you get. Service was also good. A few things to note...just about everything on the menu is spicy. So if spice isn't your thing, or maybe just a little bit of it is, speak up. They're more than willing to make accommodations. They also have a ton of vegetarian options, which makes people like me super happy. Overall I had an okay experience. It was good enough to give Hakka Wok a second go - primarily since I'm still craving the ginger fried rice I passed up and use to love at HWV. It's also fair to say the Hot Garlic Wontons and Paneer 65 have been calling my name since I left. I suppose that's a sign I need to return for another try. read more

From the name, you would assume that Hakka Wok is your typical Chinese food but it's not. Hakka Wok is Indo-Chinese cuisine which can be best described as Chinese (Cantonese/Szechuan) cooking techniques paired with Indian herbs and spices. These dishes are spicy - no joke. The little red icons next to 90% of the items on the menu aren't decorations. Those are actually to signify between spicy and fireball hadouken out of your @#$ spicy. I would recommend the cumin beef - it's the perfect blend of earthy, savory, salty, and a little spicy. For an appetizer, try the baby corn bhazzia. It's baby corn that's been seasoned with spices and then dipped in batter and fried. It's served with a spicy sweet and sour sauce made from lime juice. For a bold spicy dragon punch in your face dish, try the chicken 65. It's fried chunks of chicken tossed in cumin, garlic, onion, and chilies. It has a rating of two chilies so be careful. The one downside is that the food portions are smaller for the price you pay - most dishes are in the $10-15 range. If you like bold spicy food and are looking for something new, then Hakka Wok is worth trying. Just don't come here expecting pad Thai or orange chicken. Otherwise, you'll miss the point of enjoying Indo-Chinese cuisine. read more

They actually have good food...i appreciate the garlic. However, dont order from grubhub. For no apparent reason i have gotten my order cancelled twice after waiting over an hour. And it wasnt a small order it was nearly $100 each time and after an hour waiting for my food they just canceled the order. Ill never order them again and id suggest you dont. read more

I absolutely love Indian Chinese food and have tried a few places in the past! Hakka wok really stood out of all of them. I went here recently prepared to be disappointed based on some of the reviews here ! Not only was our food amazing but the service was not bad at all. Our server was polite and prompt. We ordered cauliflower in manchurian sauce which was AMAZING !! and their Hakka noodles were delicious too.. However I do feel they should use egg noodles for this dish instead of the ones that they are currently using. But the flavors were really good. I loved their chicken lollipops .. We didn't get the spicy ones though due to our tolerance level but I heard those are even better. All in all a good experience . It's a small establishment so I guess even if you do have to wait, I don't think that's a big deal. It only means their food is good and they are popular ! read more

I wish I could give ZERO rating. Last week we went to hakka wok and the service was terrible. Even other tables were not happy about the service and mixup of orders. The owner was not there to complain or talk to. A year back the service and food were awesome so we taught one of the bad days . We decided to.try again this weekend. We picked a different table to get a different server. Unfortunately the service was bad and this time food was worst . We ordered soup, appetizer,noodles and fried rice. All of them and I'm not exaggerating had hair in them. I have never seen such poor hygienic food. We told the server who stayed they can give a discount instead of apologizing and assuring that he would replace the food. The owner did not care to apologise too. Try the bhazzia with manchurian sauce- it's their specialty. Not a lot of substance (seems like minced veggies in little fried dough balls) but very tasty. Their "hot" is less hot than Flamin' Hot Cheetos. So if you really like spicy food, get the "fiery" (or just add more hot sauce/peppers). read more
