From the moment we saw pictures of the noodles, we knew we had to try Phat Phat. We really enjoyed our first visit two weeks ago. We loved it so much, we drove from the city to have it again today. This is such a great restaurant. It's clean, spacious, and busy...and rightfully so. The staff is super nice and they remembered us from the first visit! On our first visit, we had the orange chicken xiao long bao, sichuan wonton, kwetiaw with chicken (asked for spicy) and hongkong mee with chicken. On our second visit, we had the orange chicken xiao long bao, sichuan wonton and two kwetiaw with chicken (spicy again). We had to have the our own kwetiaw because we loved it so much. The wide noodles (looove wide noodles) are perfectly cooked and the savory sauce coats the noodles and chicken just enough to make it balanced and delicious. All the dishes we had were wonderful. Location had ample parking. A bit difficult to see from the Main Street and entrance was tough to find for parking lot. Eventually arrived and even with no reservations, we were able to get a table rather quickly. The dining room had clever decor, ample space, and had an inviting atmosphere. The food photos only show a portion of the menu, so look online before going although choices are plenty, there will be discussions about the food. Came here on a Saturday afternoon for lunch and it was busy. Fortunately there wasn't a wait and got seated right away. They looked a bit short staffed as we waited a while for the waiter to take our orders. But they were quick with the food. Dishes came out before they brought our drinks! We had the fried hongkong mee with chicken and the kwetiaw with beef. The kwetiaw was made with the flat rice noodles which I loved. The HK mee was ok probably wouldn't get again. Also had an order of the sichuan wontons and the Shanghai xiao long bao, all are very delicious, just wish it came with more per order. Overall the dishes were on the smaller side so if you come hungry, I suggest ordering a few more baos to fill your stomach. read more

I made one of those Internet inspired bingo cards to push myself a little to try new things and one of my squares is to try 12 new restaurants (outside of Yelp event privileges). Phat Phat was the first one of the year! I have seen the Imperial Xaio Long Bao on Instagram and was intrigued. I also saw the Chocolate Bao while scoping out the menu online and mentally added it to the list of things I wanted to try. When we got there, we saw the photos of the soup on the menu and thought it would be the perfect addition to the stop. I got the sweet corn soup (I'm trying new things, remember?) and my boyfriend got the wonton soup. I was a little skeptical of the consistency of the sweet corn soup, but it was not strange at all and the perfect thing to eat on a cold weekend. The Imperial Xaio Long Bao came with a lesson on how to eat them fully. I enjoyed every one less the Spicy Szechwan because it had dried shrimp in it and I cannot eat shellfish. My favorite one was the Chicken Curry [pink] with the OG Shanghai [white] a close second. Every single one was delicious, though! The Chocolate Bao were fluffy, decadent, and the perfect ending to our culinary adventure. Props for using imported chocolate over the American stuff, haha. The service was great, our waiter was funny, patient, and asked us some intelligent questions, like, how did we hear about the restaurant? The seating space was beautiful and it looked like there was a 2nd floor for seating, too? The tables were placed resourcefully, but not too close where you were sitting on top of one another. Had a bit of a mixed visit. Came in with a larger group for early dinner. The restaurant looked nice and was pleasantly decorated. We were seated fairly quickly and the staff was very pleasant and helpful. My wife and I got the Mi Goreng, Dry Chilli Chicken, lychee iced tea and mango sago. The Mi Goreng was good and we enjoyed it a lot. The Dry Chilli Chicken didn't really look like the picture and was just okay. I didn't mind the Lychee Iced Tea but it was basically just Iced Tea with a very small hint of lychee flavor, my wife wasn't a fan. The Mango Sago was disappointing, It was very liquidy and wasn't too refreshing, mango tasted good though. Overall, staff and ambiance are nice. This place was very busy at 5pm but it wasn't a long wait. I had children with me so I think our food got cold and wasn't as good as it could be. However, one of the dishes also didn't seem to be served very hot which took away from the flavor. My son and I liked the egg and corn soup. We also enjoyed the chocolate bao. I like that they have a sample "rainbow" dish of their soup dumplings. It was a great way to try the different dumplings to know what to order more of. It also has a fun rainbow appearance. This is such a cute spot, tall ceiling with warm but chic decor, and plenty of easy parking in the lot behind the building. Staff was SO friendly from greeting us, to recommending menu items, to superb attention throughout our meal. That came in handy because the menu is quite expansive and can be confusing with the mix of visuals and line items. The menus we received had gone through quite a bit of wear and tear so at times it was hard to read and navigate. This didn't deter us though, we ended up asking a million questions instead haha. The food was very tasty and everything came out piping hot. They paced it so we could enjoy everything while warm. We got two sets of dumpling, two appetizers, and a larger noodle dish to share between two people. We probably could've ordered 2-3 more dumpling dishes. It's also a perfect place to go if you want to order many small dishes and share. Each dumping dish comes with 3-4 in steamer baskets making it perfect to go with 2-4 people. I recommend the siew mai, sichuan wonton, and gao zi in the dim sum menu and the enoki mushrooms from the appetizer menu. Came here for dinner with my cousins. It was busy for a rainy Saturday night. Every table had their conversations & it was loud enough to hear each other talk. I showed up late, but they ordered quite a bit of food. Everyone was hungry so....the camera did not eat first this time unfortunately. We had Shanghai xiao long bao which was not bad. Wish it had a little more broth in it. The golden sheng jian bao was flavorful and I actually enjoyed it. My favorite was the garlic chicken wings! It was nice and crispy and juicy! You can tell it was marinated well. The mie gorreng was also pretty good...but I also love noodle dishes! The phat phat chicken was interesting! It was one of my cousins favorite! I thought it would be like a meatball texture but it had a little crisp to it because of the tempura flour. Another good dish we all enjoyed was the crispy shrimp with Szechuan sauce. Lastly, my cousin insisted that we all get the chocolate baos. Just the perfect amount of chocolate in it! Overall, it was a good experience. Great place to try soup dumplings! The combo platter is the best bet if you want to try a bunch of them and share. Our favorites were the original and the spicy. We also had some satay and some shrimp dumplings that were excellent. Pass on the tofu tots. Without a sauce they are just too pasty and bland. Also pass on the beef balls that were in the noodle soup. I'm not sure if it was liver dumplings but they were really rubbery and gross. Noodles were excellent though so I just took the meat out for my daughter. Mango bao was not their favorite either (I knew they wouldn't like it, but they insisted). Beautiful spot, but very cold. Last time I was in town, my mom and I had lunch here. And it was only us two but we ordered for 6 for some reason but that's ok because used we got to take it home and eat it again later. My mom happens to always be cold so she ordered hot tea and soup but we also got fried rice, dumplings and skewers. Our eyes were hungrier than our stomachs. My husband and I have dined here before. We've now returned with our kids. My son has severe sesame allergy and he felt safe eating here. Phat Phat was so accommodating and made sure sesame was completely eliminated in every dish we ordered so my son can enjoy what we ordered. I was here on a double date with my cuzzos and we really enjoyed our time here! We arrived around 5pm on a Saturday and the place was already starting to fill up. We were told that items tend to sell out quick so I recommend getting here as early as you can. By 6pm this place was jam packed. Although it was busy our service throughout was consistent and quick. For my drink I tried the lychee margarita. It was refreshing and fruity. I also took a sip of my husband's hibiscus flower cocktail which had mezcal in it. This was also sweet with a hint of smokiness. As far as food we all shared a bunch of items. The portions here are similar to tapas and I recommend ordering 2-3 plates per person. If you're a big fan of sharing food and trying different items this is the place to be. My favorites here were the pork soup dumplings, steamed veggie dumplings, fried tofu and garlic chicken wings. Wanted to get together with my cousin and she wanted to try Phat Phat. I came here a few weeks ago. This time we came at 5 pm in hopes to try the dishes that ran out last time. Also to get some of the same dishes we tried that I really liked. We arrived at 5pm and we were seated immediately. The server provided us with menus. When ahead returned we ordered our drinks. I decided to try the Sake. She dropped off our drinks and took our food orders. They did run out of the Salt and Pepper Enoki Mushroom but they did have a dish I wanted to try: Salt and Spicy Eggplant. I tried the Crispy Wontons, Crispy Shrimp with Szechwan Sauce. I had some repeat dishes but I will provide reviews on the new dishes. The Crispy Wontons were crispy and filled with shrimp,Seasame, and shallots. They were pretty good. The Salt and Spicy Eggplant had the right amount of salt and were fried perfectly. Lastly, the Crispy Shrimp was cooked perfect and was not over cooked. The sauce was really good. The staff was friendly and helpful but they could have used another waiter to service the restaurant. It was a busy night and I could only spot two waiters. This place was so good! It's been on my radar for a little bit. And since I had the time I drove up to Schaumburg to check it out. The got a nice parking area and back of the restaurant. It didn't take long for us to be seated. Probably about five minutes or so. The restaurant is really nice. It's got an upstairs as well once I guess it gets busy they start placing people upstairs. Service was friendly. Food was great. We got the sample dumplings with the rainbow flavors. Which were really good. Also, we got the beef noodles which was good but the chicken teriyaki was awesome. Definitely recommend that. We ended the meal with a chocolate bao and the mango sago, which were both really good. Prices were worth what they were, I guess average probably. In my previous visits, I had their Sheng Jian Bao, Chocolate Bao, Hong Kong Mee Noodles w/ seafood in XO sauce, and Nasi Goreng. On my current visit, we ordered Crispy Fish in Egg Floss, Wok Fired Hong Kong Mee Noodles with Chicken and Vegetables, Spicy Szechuan Xiao Long Bao with pork, shrimp and Szechuan black peppercorn; Golden Sheng Jian Bao with chicken and shrimp, shrimp fried rice, Lychee margarita, and Strawberry Coconut bubble tea. The food arrived in a short time. It looked good and smelled delicious. I enjoyed trying all the dishes we ordered. The flavors of each dish were exquisite. My favorite items were the Spicy Szechuan bao and the crispy fish dish. The Lychee margarita was very good and refreshing. I asked for hot chili oil, which added a nice flavor profile to some of the dishes I had. The food was fresh and cooked well. The service was good and had been in the past well. I really wanted to try their beef rempah, but unfortunately they said it wasn't ready yet. We settled on the Sichuan wontons, beef stew XLB, golden sheng jian bao and the mie goreng. I liked the classic Sichuan wontons the best and it's dipping sauce. The other dumplings weren't bad, but I just thought the Sichuan wontons were better. The mie goreng was good, spicy and very saucy. It helps to eat it with rice since it had too much sauce (spicy and salty) for me. I very much appreciate the convenient parking lot and the clean bathrooms. We ordered a variety of items to try because I've read some of the other reviews and there was a mention that the portion is a bit smaller than expected. If I was to compare it to the other restaurants in Chinatown, then yes I would agree that the portions were smaller - especially when you take in account of the price of each item. There's something about just sitting in there, letting the afternoon drift by, watching the traffic, while you flip back and forth through the menu trying to remember which soup dumplings you've had, struggling to decide if you stay with what you like or go for a new one. My mom and I were really excited to try this place because the chef is from Southeast Asia and the menu looked fun. Between the two of us, we got three things - a fried fish dish (I don't remember the exact name, apologies), the salted egg tofu appetizer, and the lemon xiao long bao. The first two things were solidly good - I'd rate them both 4/5 stars. However, we were both really disappointed with the xiao long bao. It was straight up bad, which was super disappointing because I was curious about the other XLB flavors. The waitress did mention that some people love it and some people hate it, so maybe it'll be up your alley. Unfortunately, how I felt was I could get yummier Chinese food in Chinatown or elsewhere in the city for cheaper. I wouldn't mind the price as much if the food was actually Good, but I don't personally think it's worth going out of the way to try. Especially when there are other options nearby.
