The Good: Still like what it used to taste like from what I can remember. Hits the spot every time!…read more The Bad: Adel's is a fierce competitor a few blocks down with a long line. BUT, imho Adel's doesn't really taste as good as the original Halal Guys in terms of flavor and fragrance. The chicken from Adel's is in bigger chunks and some argue is more tender, but the flavor is definitely not close. Also, it's important that it comes with lettuce, tomatoes and a little onion to balance everything out. Finally, You must get both the spicy red and white sauce together to make it all come together! The Ugly: The smell is addictive, so if you walk by, it's hard to resist, even if you've just eaten a nice meal somewhere else. We couldn't resist. Gotta hit the gym hard for the next few days!

The guys working the cart are genuinely some of the friendliest people you'll meet in midtown…read more Always smiling, always patient, even when the line is wrapped around the block. And that line is no joke. You will wait. Plan accordingly. Here's my dilemma: every single time I eat here, my stomach lets me know about it later. Without fail. I've tried adjusting the hot sauce, going easy on portions... doesn't matter. Something about this food and my digestive system just don't agree. At this point I have to accept that it's probably not for me. So why do I keep coming back? Because at 2 AM after a late night, when everything else is closed and you're starving in Times Square, that platter of chicken and rice over white sauce smells like salvation. They're the only game in town at that hour, and honestly, in the moment, it hits. It's the next morning I regret it. If your stomach handles it better than mine, you'll probably love it. The food is tasty and the portions are huge for the price. I just wish I could enjoy it without paying for it twice.

If you're looking for one of the best late-night food experiences in New York City, Adel's Famous…read moreHalal Food is absolutely worth the hype. We visited twice, both times after 10 PM, and despite the notoriously long lines, the staff kept things moving efficiently. The wait looked intimidating at first, but the operation runs like a well-oiled machine, and once you get your food, you'll understand why so many people are willing to stand in line. The Spicy Rice Combo was out of this world. The flavors were bold, perfectly seasoned, and packed with just the right amount of heat. Every bite delivered that classic NYC halal cart experience but elevated to another level. The fries were equally impressive--crispy, fresh, and the perfect complement to the meal. What really stood out was the atmosphere. There's something special about grabbing incredible food late at night alongside locals, tourists, and food lovers all gathered for the same reason. The energy, the anticipation, and ultimately the food itself made for a memorable experience. Yes, the lines are long. Yes, it's late at night. And yes, it's 100% worth the wait. Adel's delivered one of the most satisfying meals we had during our trip to New York, and it's a spot I'll gladly return to every time I'm back in the city.

Half the spots nearby had already shut down or had lines I wasn't about to stand in, and this truck was right there, lit up and moving fast. Got the two-meat combo over rice. The guys inside don't waste time. I had my plate in a few minutes even with a couple people ahead of me. Chicken and beef both came out hot, and the rice underneath was fresh and fluffy. Ask for the extra spicy red if you want to suffer a little. Portions are big for the price. I walked away full and happy. Fries are the one thing I'd skip (they go soft quick), but with the meat and sauces all over the plate I didn't care. If you're out late and everything else is closed, this is the move. They open at 7:30 and stay open well into the night, which is exactly when you want them. I'll be back the next time I'm wandering around starving after midnight.

It's a must try and a go to if you enjoy the style as all in the area have their certain style. Love the lamb and chicken combo over rice. Hot, flavorful, fresh, and made to order. Great white sauce and hot sauce with a wonderful fresh salad that is full of ingredients. Love how the add the extra spice on top to top it off. Friendly and good service. I'd definitely come back.

The steak is done perfectly at medium rare that you don't need any sauce and the fries are a nice crispy and golden brown. The steak basil is also really good if you want some sauce and don't want the hassle of cutting your steak. One of my favorite parts about this food truck is that I believe it is run by 2 brothers and the front guy is so nice. You can tell they're great people. They're pretty busy around noon, but I'm always able to get my lunch within 15 minutes. They are cash only, but they do also take venmo or zelle. I only wish they had better utensils because it is difficult to cut the steak with the flexible white plastic knifes.

The Best Food Truck in NYC -- Period…read more I've eaten at countless restaurants in New York City, but nothing -- and I mean nothing -- comes close to Steak Freak, the little black food truck parked on the corner of 6th Avenue and West 50th Street. I stumbled upon it around lunchtime and saw a long line stretching down the block. Normally, that would be a deterrent -- but I quickly realized everyone was there for a reason. The line moves surprisingly fast (these guys have it down to a science), and it's absolutely worth the wait. I ordered the Steak Basil on Rice and the Kimchi Sesame Steak on Rice, and both dishes were mind-blowingly good. The steak was tender, juicy, and perfectly seasoned, and the sauces had that perfect balance of heat, sweetness, and umami that makes you close your eyes after every bite. The rice was fluffy and soaked up every drop of flavor. You can tell Dorjee, the owner, takes real pride in what he serves. He's one of the nicest guys you'll ever meet -- greeting regulars by name, joking with the crowd, and hustling behind the grill like a pro. Pro tip: Get there early. They sell out by 2 PM every single day, and once the steak is gone, it's gone.
