I thought this place was really cool. You get the impression that it's going to mix halal food with Mexican food together. It's actually separate. They have one side of the menu where it's more gyro and Halal options, and the other side has Mexican food options. The flavor was really good. The best part was that they had at least four different styles of chicken to choose from including spicy, classic and jerk seasoning. The staff was really friendly and quick about preparing food. Halal Mix has some pretty solid food at great portions and really reasonable prices. I would say my favorite is anything with the jerk chicken, the beef is a little too chewy for my liking. Just ordered from here, the portions suck. The server took my order and was rude rolling his eyes from the start. He was very passive aggressive rushing me to order. He first gave me one small thin layer of rice, I noticed the rice also seemed old and oily. I told him they look old and he lied saying they were fresh when his coworker came and said the rice had already turned. Instead of telling me to wait for a new batch he simply served me the old one. The also ran out of fresh black beans. Wouldn't recommend coming here and it was still 23.00 for two burrito bowls with old thin layer of rice. Been here twice in a week and it was so tasty. Burrito bowls, Philly cheese steak, shawarma and Jarritos soda. This is such a better halal version of something like chipotle where there is basmati rice and jerk chicken, the avocado sauce is so fresh and the combination and options are better! I've been coming to this place for years. The food here is good. However, the portions are not great now that the new owners took over. They barely put any meat on the platters so you're basically just eating rice with a tiny tiny side of salad and some sauce. The guy in the front (Naseeb/Naseem? Not sure. I think he's a partner) makes you feel weird while placing an order because he puts tiny portions and if you ask for more, he seems annoyed/reluctant to do so. They upcharge for everything and have a credit card fee. Bring back Sabir, at least we had better portions! Unfortunately, this time around I got a bad stomachache/cramps that lasted two days. Halal Mix was the closest restaurant I could find with Birria tacos from where I was so I decided to give it a try. Firstly, the price seemed too much for 3 tacos but I heard good things about them, so I still gave it a try. Unfortunately, it didn't hit the expectations I wanted it to have. The meat was dry, and the tacos were all more on the saltier side. The consomé was pretty decent but I expected a bit more for the price. However, the seasoning was decent! I ordered a burrito bowl with falafel (greens, pico, shredded cheese, pickled onion, grilled onions and peppers, green verde sauce, jalepeno). It took about 5-7 minutes to get the falafel. The place was very clean and the employees were really patient and kind. I think Halal Mix one of the more decent halal joints. I usually come here for the chicken over rice (aka Gyro Bowl). It come with well seasoned brown basmati rice which is full of Afghan flavor. It comes with salad which I passed on and also curly fries which I also passed on because they were usually cold. What is the point of offering french fries if they are cold? Next is the choice of chicken (there is honey chipotle, jerk chicken and classic).. the first two are not authentic at all so I get the classic. The classic chicken is cubed not shredded and is not doused in red food coloring like other halal spots. it is also mixed with onions and has good flavor. It's shame they are bit skimpish with the portion of chicken. Overall it one of the more flavorful chicken over rice's you will find in the Queens/LI area. There is room for improvement. read more

Amazing food, didn't go there in person so I cant speak for the ambiance but the shawarma I got delivered was insanely good. The chicken was perfectly flavorful and juicy, the pita despite the half hour delivery was still holding up well and the sauces were generously packed in which I greatly appreciate because some places can be stingy with it . Halal Mix is one of my favorite local restaurants and I order from here almost every week. Their Chipotle Chicken Quesadilla is some of the best I've ever had and I always have to order curly fries on the side. Their Beef Birria tacos are exploding with meat and so filling that it'll carry you for the rest of the day. The consommé is sometimes a little salty but thick and flavorful. The chicken over rice platters are also solid and a great quick meal. I love their chipotle and salsa verde sauces and they're always generous with requests for extra sauce. Counter person wanted to charge $1 for a table spoon of corn on Gyro platter. Plus I miss spoke by saying "Like Chicken" instead of "I want Chicken". We were heading to another restaurant on Hillside Ave when we saw this place. It looked interesting and we decided to stop in. The first things you notice are the cleanliness of the place, incredible smell and friendliness of the staff. I was already liking this place. We ordered the chicken quesadilla and a bowl that was a mix of chicken and lamb. It also included hummus, guacamole basmati rice and curly fries. The portions are large and the food was incredibly delicious. It was so delicious that during our meal we were discussing what we are going to order the next time we eat here. When we found out we can have it delivered we agreed that this was going to be dinner in two days. I cannot wait to eat here again. If I was able to give this more than five stars I would. The restaurant is neat and clean, the service is friendly and efficient, and the food is delicious! The food here is not it. I preface this by saying the food was ordered for delivery, but I've ordered food from around there at other places and those did not arrive cold. Firstly the nachos were cold and the chips were soggy. The meat tasted and smelled like hot dog water, the best way I can describe it. Just chips with beef and tomatoes drowned in cheese and sour cream. The messy fries are average. The cheese sauce is nothing special.
