I shrieked when I found out Pittsburgh was getting a halal cart. I'm from NY and lived off of $7 halal food through college. I went on opening day and I was impressed. There were a bunch of guys working the cart. One took orders/payment while another guy cooked. It was very organized and all the people who worked there were super friendly and helpful. I'm not sure how they're gonna roll out delivery because they were in high demand! I ordered chicken over rice and a falafel on a pita. The chicken over rice is definitely on par with NY halal carts. It's spiced nicely and I love the fresh veggies. My husband and I housed it in 2 minutes. Not a joke. The falafel was made with love and the chef seemed so proud of the final product...it was really cute how proud he was when wrapping it up! It was alfresh and delicious. The white sauce was everything I hoped for. The hot sauce wasn't as spicy as expected (but they warned me so I just got extra!) I will be back. A lot. Update: everyone that works here is amazing! I was excited to try this place because I've been craving halal food. I got the falafel platter and was disappointed- the rice was a bit crunchy and the only vegetables in my platter were 2 peppers and a bit of lettuce. I was excited to try this place and went on a Saturday evening. The line was pretty long but the 3 guys working were very apologetic about the wait and were all very friendly. I ordered the combo platter ($7) and made it deluxe (+$2) and the guys working made sure my box was packed with meat. The meats were very tasty and I got a lot of food for the price. I was a bit disappointed by the "deluxe" part of the meal, however, as the extra $2 went towards about 3 fries, a few bites of pita, and 1 piece of falafel. Next time I will probably skip the deluxe, as you get a lot of food already without it. I also recommend asking for a lot of white sauce. They overcharged me. I bought 2 platter for $6.99 each. But somehow I was charged $15.85 on my credit card. I confronted the guy(I'm not sure if he is the owner or just an employee) and he insisted that it's the tax. I'm not sure if he is really that stupid or pretended to be stupid but $6.99 x 2 x 1.07 is supposed to come only $14.96 and not $15.85 I was charged. So I'm not sure since when Pittsburgh sales tax increased from 7% to 13.5%?!?? I had the chicken and lamb combo platter as well as the falafel platter. They packed it nicely for me, definitely enough portion. This is Bangladeshi Owned, which is actually awesome! Here's a secret, the best halal carts in NYC are Bangladeshi Owned...they flavor their rice better and add Tandoori spice to their chicken! It's NEXT LEVEL! The falafel was super fresh, chicken and lamb was as well. The highlight is the sauce, it's different than halal guys, a little creamier and heavier but it also has a hint of Dil, like a traditional Tzatziki Sauce! The hot sauce was spicy but not crazy like Halal Guys. BUT still don't get too carried away if you wanna keep your stomach lining in tact haha! Thank you for bringing a bit of home to Pittsburgh! I am from Ohio and have driven over an hour multiple times to eat a gyro from this cart! Perfect location and price. Very fast service and always comes out 100% delicious. My favorite is the regular gyro with extra sauce, but the chicken gyro is equally as delicious. The food and beverage combo can't be beat! I'd give it more than 5 stars if I could!
