I made some wonderful green salad from the lettuce, tomatoes, onions, cucumbers, carrots, snd broccoli. We also got some sweet corn that was really great. The workers provided helpful service. Finding this space was happenstance as I received a gift certificate to shop here. Wanting fresh berries to top our chia pudding, my cronies and I ventured out to the fruitful farm stand on an early Friday afternoon before I had a train to catch outta town. . We walked the strawberry field and picked our own baskets, then we shopped all the fruit inside. They even offer larger wicker baskets for holding your items. They were busy, but still attentive and efficient. . For all four of us, all of our totals were $30 or less. This will definitely be a regular produce spot now that I've found them! I can't believe I have lived here most of my life and never heard of Halcyon Farms. I was specifically looking for local honey to help my toddler with seasonal allergies when I came across this farm. They sell pesticide free fruits and veggies as well as bread, dates, flowers and eggs. I arrived at 12, when they open, and there was already about 30 people present at this small farm. The $20 grab bag they do frequently is really a great deal and I also recommend grabbing a baguette or a sour dough loaf, delivered by Red Bird bakery close by. Rutiz Family Farms is a great truly LOCAL semi-secret place which is a bit hard to find off Halycion. The turn-off on the Pike is just short of the tiny Post Office. The stand is hidden among a grove of huge original trees. The have hours on only Fridays & Saturdays. For some odd reason the best local stuff is only on Fridays, but they will hold a box for you on Sat, if you let them know. Sometimes they have "pick your own". This is the certified organic farm that has a great variety of vegetables, herbs and berries. We always pick the berries when in season and the flavor is wonderful. I visited Rutiz and Hayashi in the same day and I'm glad I did. I had a bit of a problem finding the place (my directions sent to to a neighborhood). The stand is on The Pike & Garfield Place. There is a dirt parking lot behind the eucalyptus trees. Unlike Hayashi, patrons are allowed to bag their own groceries, but masks were required and social distancing was suggested. There were lots of yummy fruits and vegetables to choose from. There were also a couple vendors selling miscellaneous things. When compared to Hayashi, the prices were slightly more expensive, but in some regard, it was absolutely worth it. They certainly did not have as big of a selection as Hayashi, but I was OK with that because they had almost everything that I needed. The only thing I was a little bummed about was that nobody was very friendly there. The staff members were talking amongst themselves, but not to me. I was just there. I love this little farm. Went for the 1st time on a field trip and absolutely loved it. They sell fresh local produce and also have local vendors sell. They keep scraps so you can feed the chickens. The flowers they sell are gorgeous and when I got some they lasted for weeks. They have pumpkins already which made me very happy. They are larger, small pumpkins and only $1! We have bought all of our produce at Rutiz Farms for the past 2 years. Now we are addicted! We can no longer buy anything at the supermarket after being spoiled by the fresh produce at Rutiz. To say that everything tastes fresh is an understatement. There is no comparison. Most store-bought produce now tastes like cardboard to us. If you are looking to improve the taste of your meal, you must shop here. And the added bonus is the friendly and very helpful staff. My pro tip: While everything is priced reasonably, I suggest buying their harvest bag which contains their choice of assorted produce at a cost of 20 bucks. My son and I visited for the first time the other day and my first impression was good! You could smell the fresh herbs. Everything was displayed nicely and the prices were fairly reasonable. The hours are a little strange so there were a lot of people there and it's a pretty small stand! There was a younger girl with glasses working there who was not friendly at all. My son was standing next to me and apparently she wanted to get under the table where we were standing and she just sighed and stood there until we moved. Um sorry. She didn't smile or look at us...she just looked miserable. It always makes me feel awkward when people working where you are shopping look annoyed and like you are a bother to them. We heard this was a pick your own place and it is, but not all year. We were told that later in the harvest around May through June when tons on berries start coming in, they allow the public to pick their own berries. They have a lot to offer in a small area, including plants to put in your yard. Pretty cool place. Prices comparable to other berry places, but I still didn't buy any berries with them. They also pick the strawberry without the stem attached which means they go bad faster than I can eat them or freeze them. Will go back when they allow people to pick their own! :) read more

My favorite place to pick up fresh pesticides-free fruits and veggies! Rutiz is fun and convenient. Always something tasty and new! Great atmosphere. Everyone is nice and helpful. I haven't went out to pick my own fruits yet but it looks so fun! I usually have Sandals on and in a hurry. Always lots of families having a good time picking berries and what ever is in season.
