FOOD (5/5) Kona Kouign-Amann - delicious, not too strong of a coffee flavor. Really nice crispy pastry! (5/5) Cream Pan - this was super soft and almost gooey. Its kind of like a meltier Japanese cheese cake. (4/5) Pabana Croissant (lilikoi, mango, banana) - I liked the tropical fruity flavors. The croissant was still crisp, and it wasn't too tart! (5/5) Big Island Macadamia Nut Croissant [Not Pictured] - (3/5) Mango Kouign-Amann [Not Pictured] - This one was maybe too sweet, or too wet. I didn't love the texture I guess. It wasn't bad, it just was a bit off the mark for me. OVERALL It's super convenient and fast to stop by. We liked it enough to go twice. Weirdly there weren't a lot of bakery options in the area. The 'Extraordinary Desserts' of Honolulu. Extraordinary Dessert is by far my favorite dessert shop on this planet. So to give Halekulani that title for holding it in Honolulu means a great deal to me. It is pricey but it is worth it kinda pricey. There is a line, but it is the kind of line you definitely should hop in early and trust that it'll move fast. We grabbed three things that called out to us the most: the Mac nut chocolate croissant, the ham and cheese croissant and their June special that has mochi roll cake. I'm not usually a big fan of mochi dessert but their version of it is delicate and not too sweet and seems to have chosen the freshest fruits on the island to make it. Chocolate croissant was a game changer for me, it beats local pastry shops in LA for sure. Finally, the ham and cheese. While it wasn't my favorite, it slapped harder than other ham and cheese croissants. Pro Tip, grab a coffee, some napkins, bring your beach blanket and hit the beach across the street (use outrigger hotel entrance for ease) to enjoy it watching the Hawaiian waves. read more

I saw this on Instagram, and their offerings peaked my interested. I came by here before my flight to get some breakfast. I tried a few things at the bakery, but none of them really wowed me. Overall, the pastry itself was lackluster. The mango kouign amann had a slight mango flavor, but the pastry just wasn't flakey and was a bit stiff. Pabana croissant flavorwise was good. However, again the pastry was stiff. There was something akin to a tuile on top that didn't bite as easily. I would skip this bakery, at least their pastries. We got a slice of their famous coconut cake, a chocolate Kouign-amann and a chocolate mac nut croissant. The ladies that helped us were friendly when I didn't see the slice of cake and asked if they had any. The coconut cake was really light and fluffy, and not too sweet. Maybe I don't like coconut enough to have fully enjoyed it. If you love coconut / coconut flakes, then I'd recommend it. I was recently told by a friend of a friend that "Halekulani Bakery has the best croissants that I have ever had." So naturally, I woke up first thing the very next morning and marched right up to the bakery to see for myself. Verdict: they weren't wrong...! Wow. They use European butter to make their croissants and every single one is not only incredibly delicious but also impeccably presented. There is not a flaw on one pastry in this entire bakery. I tried several other items and while all were delicious, the croissant was so extraordinary it will definitely be the item that brings me back. This darling little bakery is full of the most gorgeous french croissant variants. Restaurant isn't the right word, but cafe covers it. They have beautiful pastries, some muffins, and a few egg sandwiches. Like a French bakery, you pick up a tray and a set of tongs to choose your goodies. My partner bought a blueberry danish and a chocolate macadamia nut croissant. I had the gf vegan morning glory muffin. It was really good. My toddler ate more than half. Sad day for me. Our friends had a cream pastry, a chocolate macadamia nut croissant and a blueberry mango muffin. Everything disappeared far quicker than it should have. I didn't want to spend $30 on breakfast and/or wanted something lighter so we walked around a little bit. And found this place around the corner after walking through a narrow alley. Basically what I'm trying to say is this location is probably not the best especially with everything not being in full operation in the area. This place was surprisingly not busy at all. It's a really nice bakery and coffee shop (non restaurant portion). All the creations behind the glass looked amazing and I asked which items were the most popular. The woman behind the counter told me the pabana croissant, chocolate croissant, and salted caramel croissant. After hearing about the pabana (banana, lillikoi/passion fruit/ mango), I knew I had to have it because I love all those things. I was not disappointed in the very least. As a matter of fact, this might be the best croissant I've ever had. The flaky crispiness of the croissant that contrasted with the creamy filling with the tropical flavors was one of the best combinations I've ever tasted for breakfast pastry. I still think about that croissant haha. I was able to get a bite of the chocolate croissant as well and it was really good. And everyone in our party but the pastries hair were amazing and the coffee was good too. As for the service the folks behind the counter were really friendly and helpful. I really love places like this. I would love to come back and actually eat at the restaurant. From the pictures, all the food just looks so good. But I would definitely be happy and coming back just for the pastries again. First time trying this highly rated bakery and they advertised Saccher torte for the month of February. So, we bused there by 7:30am for it but to be told they do not make it but it was on their website and advertised! Very annoying already. The bakery opens at 6:30am and closes at 11:30am so we arrived by 7:30am and already a short line up. If you have not been to France or Japan for the baked goods, then you might say Halekulani bakery is good but if you have ever eaten in France or Japan, then it is just mediocre for the exorbitant prices that they charge. For one small skinny piece of coconut cake it's $14 USD, a small round 4 inch quiche itself with spinach and mushrooms $9, sticky cinnamon bun $7.50, drip coffee at $4.50, and a small round curry bun $7. Everything tasted fine and fresh but it does NOT have good value at those exorbitant prices they charge for what it is worth. Lastly, if you have several pastries, then it's $1 extra for the box. The drip coffee had absolutely no coffee taste but it was nice and hot...lol...service was very good ....no advertised saccher torte for the month of February...false advertisement.... We would not return again as it is way over priced for what they have to offer. I do not mind the exorbitant prices provided that the food "wow" us but it did not. We gave it 3 stars because of the good service and the taste of the food but had to deduct 2 stars for the very terrible coffee and the exorbitant prices. read more

The bakery items are made fresh and they're constantly restocking the items as I stood in line waiting to select my food. The hours are half day, opens at 0630 and closes at 1130. I wish they had their cupcakes for sale in this bakery, that's what I was looking forward to. The line does get long and there's no crowd control so the line tends to block the entryway/exit but I haven't seen anyone having trouble to get in/out because the line moves fairly quickly. Oh my goodness. This bakery is open only 5 hours a day for 5 days a week. The line is consistently long but moves pretty quickly. I normally don't think long lines are worth it. I normally don't make an effort to pursue sought-after pastries no matter how good they're said to be. But I really wanted to try a maritozzi today and this was the closest place that sold them. They were sold out by the time I showed up, 2.5 hours into their 5 hour shift. But it didn't matter. I got a sampling of their other pastries: a European butter croissant, an everything croissant, a blueberry danish, and a mango kouign-amann. They were all very good. It's clear that they spend the other 19 hours of the day preparing for these pastries. What made me wish I could stay in Hawaii for another week was the Shirred Egg. It's a gooey egg baked atop ricotta and spinach, served with toast. I began using my croissant to scoop large dollops of the thick warm savory miracle of a sauce into my mouth. Time stopped. Or more accurately, I realized time didn't exist. If I ever come back to Waikiki, it will be for these eggs. She loved Brug bakery so much that I thought she might want to try some of these items. I picked out a selection and ended up trying the banana croissant and the chocolate croissant. I would say both were very average tasting. I know that they use great techniques, but it just didn't taste like a croissant that was worth nearly 7 dollars. Literally a week after I went to b. patisserie in San Francisco, and those pastries are to die for. The kouign amman there is less than five dollars but I would have happily paid seven. So sadly I just feel like the pastries here just don't compare. Oh, I also brought my car to the valet area of the Halekulani and the valet guys let me park on the side. And the chocolate kouign-amann was also wonderful with a great balance of butter, caramel and texture. I got the cheese bread I think it said four cheese. It cost $13 which is pricey but at the same time this thing is huge! It's just bread with cheese inside which are two of my favorite things so I loved it. I do wish that it had alittle more cheese inside but that's just because I love cheese, most people would probably like the amount that's in there. I definitely would come back for this. My mom tried their chocolate kouign amann, she really liked it. I wish they were open later. Their hours are 6:30-11:30, I'm usually never functioning early enough to go to places with hours like that. Halekulani is definitely a 5 star bakery. All of the baked goods here are beautiful and are very flaky and fresh. There are also lots of different and fun flavors to choose from when decided your baked goods. We tried the pistachio raspberry croissant which was very delightful.
