I love that they give you a free dessert it's with your first visit and you sign up for the emailing list. It's a great way to try something new. I chose a lemon blueberry donut. As a former baker at a dedicated gluten-free bakery, I have to give this place props. Gluten-free baking by itself is already a challenge, so pairing that with vegan and allergy friendly baking is definitely no piece of cake (pun intended ). Located in a small strip in South Tampa, Halelife Bakery doesn't look like much from the outside, however, if you take a chance and go into this gluten-free bakery, you are going to discover a lot of amazing treats that gluten-free (and even gluten-ful) people alike will enjoy. We picked up a few sweet treats for a coworker who is allergic to gluten, and ended up getting a couple of brownies/donuts for ourselves as well. We enjoyed them a lot, and even my fiancé (who was not so keen to eat gluten-free food because he thinks that they must not be that good) scarfed down his food so fast that I only got to taste a tiny bit of his donut. There are a few parking slots available, but since the spot is take-out only (at the time we went anyway, maybe due to COVID?), you'll be in and out in no time. Staff was very friendly and sweet, just like their baked goods! Also, my coworker had a hard time not eating all four sweets we got her. It's been a while since I Yelped. A health condition that requires me to avoid dairy has made eating less than fun, and also unbelievably challenging. You would think if you just skipped the cheese on the burger you'd be dairy free, right? Wrong-o. The dairy, it turns out, is in every. thing. All the things: sandwich bread, pre-made cakes, pastries, muffins, cookies... donuts! Today I stumbled into Buddy Brew coffee in Hyde park and got a cold brew. I gazed longingly at the beautiful pastries on the counter. The sweet woman working there asked if I wanted a donut to go with my coffee. I laughed. Because I know it's not dairy free. I heard about his bakery at an event and their mini donuts were to die for. They had super unique flavors! So of course, I had to finally make the trip to their brick and mortar location in tampa off dale mabry. It's a quaint little shop inside of a small shopping center. It's easy to miss but just go slowly after the steak 'n Shake if you're coming from the north. So I went in and had a bazillion questions and the woman behind the counter is really helpful. They have a lot of donuts, brownies, bread, icing, mini cupcakes to go, I saw spinach artichoke dip, and more refrigerated items. I was in love! I have my engagement party soon and want to have the mini donuts catered or to pick up so you do have to go online and order to talk about that or request it. Can't wait to go back already! It looks delicious on social media and in the store. It taste different probably because it's vegan. I was told my one of the reps who work their that you can freeze and eat later. So I did that and it was absolutely grainy and found hard to eat. I also warmed it in the microwave and it tasted better, but not amazing. The employee who helped us was very friendly and helpful- she even pulled out the ingredient list booklet to double check ingredients for me when I asked if they contained yeast (these didn't!) The store is also very cute and well-kept. I can't wait to go back My boyfriend and I shared the chocolate chip cookie brownie and the January dulche de leche cupcake. I'm not going to lie, having only recently started restricting what I can eat I had very low expectations and I was totally blown away by how passable these were without having some ingredients you would think would be necessary. For sake of comparison if you're going in expecting a regular old traditional-ingredient dessert: The cupcake is a bit drier and the brownie has the tiniest bit of aftertaste that you probably wouldn't even notice if you didn't know it wasn't made with traditional ingredients. Bought an apple pie for Thanksgiving. It was $24.00. It barely browned, was not fluffy, apples were overly limp, gummy, and the "crumbles" weren't crunchy, they became gooey. The directions said to re-heat it in oven for 10-15 minutes before serving, but we had to keep it warming 3-5 minutes at a time for long after that time because it wasn't cooking. Every sweet I've tried so far is amazing, the cookie dough cupcake is my absolute favorite!
