If you are in Dingle for travel I will give you a short and quick review of our experience. But I'll say first, you can skip this one. The service was very poor to being with. They did not have enough staff to accommodate how many tables they had sat. The waiters were not the most friendly as he seemed annoyed when we did not have our drink orders ready 4 minutes after sitting down. Not to mention we had one drink menu and four people. Then for the food. It was terribly small portions for the cost. The quality of our meals was not great, especially for the price. We ordered the Atlantic Seafood Platter with the extra half lobster. The lobster actually never arrived and hadn't even been placed on our bill at the end of the meal. We never asked for it to be brought out since we were over it by the end. At one point a server actually placed our scallops we ordered as an appetizer in front of me, took them, and placed them at a nearby table without a word. Apparently the table next to us had ordered the same appetizer but she ordered it first, so it was taken from us and given to that table. Very unprofessional service. Our scallops came out 8 minutes later. Overall it is a skip. Many other seafood places are nearby. Dingle is just simply not the best place for fine dining, so I would opt for something more casual and cheaper while dining here. Their drinks were good though. Not to mention, this is the only dining spot in all of Ireland to verbally ask for a tip. read more

Situated directly across the road from Dingle Bay, Boatyard is a seafood forward local spot that definitely has the vibe of Dingle! Based on a recommendation, we made sure to add Boatyard to our itinerary while visiting Dingle. We grabbed a late lunch, both got fish and chips, and one of us got a cocktail. The fish and chips were tasty, not the best I've ever had. The fish was well fried and flaky sided with your standard chips/fries served with ketchup and house made tartar sauce, which was honestly the best part of the dish! Service was friendly and welcoming from entry to exit. The space is cute with a large main dining room up front with lots of natural lights and large windows looking g at the bay. There is a cozier dining room inside, along with two outdoor spaces once more formal than the other. The front patio looks great, but sadly du to weather and season, it was closed. We arrived for our reservation and the restaurant was about half full. It took a while before a server acknowledged us and took our drink order. As we waited the tables started to fill up and, while hesitant about the reviews we read, we were encouraged by the number of people arriving. We enjoyed our drinks and thankfully got our order taken before the large group of 12 beside us and 3 other tables. While the appetizer came quickly. Our main courses didn't arrive until after ALL the other tables had ordered, were served and most of the people had finished their meals! During this period we were checked on once and were assured our meals were on their way. Then ignored. When we mentioned the extraordinarily long time that we waited and was told there was nothing they could do but apologize......a complimentary dessert....a drink on the house. Nothing! Service: inattentive and uncaring Food: Calamari was tender but the lettuce on the salad was wilted on old Tortellini tasteless and barely warm Mussels overcooked and gritty but the sauce was tasty. Served with a piece of soda bread that was cold from refrigeration. Atmosphere: Nice view, with outside seating if weather permits, it is a very noisy restaurant due to the acoustics of the interior's design. A very disappointing dining experience and a very sad experience for our first night in Dingle. Not at all worth the price paid! There are plenty of seafood restaurants. Skip this one. read more

We came here hungry about 4:00 after traveling from California for about 20 hours. My wife and son both ordered the bacon cheeseburger. They both thought it was ok. The bacon was a little different then they were used too, and there burgers came with lettuce and 2 onion rings on top although they ordered the burgers with just meat and cheese. I ate the onion rings and I'm pretty sure they were homemade. They were delicious. The waitress said everything on the specials menu was caught in Dingle Bay. I ordered the monk fish medallions from the specials menu. It was good. The chips (fries) were outstanding. They have a lobster tank with live lobsters. Maybe it's a 4.5* or 5* for the Dingle Peninsula, but in the bigger scheme of things, it's more like 3-3.5*. The prices were on the higher end. Table of 5 New Yorkers visiting Beautiful Dingle for the first time. Heard good things about the Boatyard and decided to try it. Well, it was awful. 3 of us had the crab special which was $35 and consisted of 3 TINY crab claws, a quiche with prawns, and a gelatinous mess of crab gratin that certainly wouldn't be out of place at any local prison or major airliner. The fish and chips were greasy and off-putting ( though an order of gluten free fish and chips was devoured and enjoyed). The tomato soup was just fine. Service was basically nonexistent as we asked 3 times for napkins, and never were offered drink refills. All this, and a bit of attitude by the clearly overworked waitress, for $255.00. I'm from NY and can deal with high prices and small portions if the food is good. Not the case here. Sorry. Can't recommend this place. read more

We had a great dinner here while visiting in late September. Be sure to make a reservation a couple days ahead of time even outside of peak season as they did fill, and were turning away anyone without reservations. We had a table with a nice view of the harbor and enjoyed a calamari starter. The calamari was tender and lightly breaded. The sauce that accompanied it was wonderful and much nicer than the typical marinara. I want to say it mentioned sherbet in the sauce, and that is consistent with how it tasted. I know it sounds unusual but it was excellent. They have a nice assortment of local beers and cider and a nice variety of wine and cocktails. For my entree, I had the turbot special which was delicious. The fish was fresh and sweet and the sauce and vegetables accompanying it all complimented it nicely. Each entree also came with a side of vegetables which was much appreciated! For dessert, the sticky toffee pudding was wonderful. They were very short staffed with what appeared to be just two servers working the entire restaurant and handling the host stand. They were moving as fast as possible, but understandably, service was somewhat slow because two people can only handle so much. Relax, enjoy the view, and don't worry if it takes a bit to get a dessert order in or get the check at the end. read more

Of all the restaurants/pubs/Cafés I visited in Ireland, this was my favorite. Of all of the places in Ireland I visited Dingle was my favorite, but I digress. My boyfriend and I asked the B&B owner if they could call a taxi for us. We were lucky enough to be picked up by the woman who owned the taxi company, and her daughter just happened to work at The Boatyard. So when I asked if she knew of any places that had good veggie options, and good seafood, she knew just where to send us. She also called her daughter to reserve us a table. We were seated by a window in the front of the restaurant, and looked over the menu. My boyfriend had a hard time choosing one thing. He LOVES seafood, and Boatyard had a ton of options for him to choose from. He ended up choosing the Cold Wild Atlantic Seafood Platter. It was heaven on a plate for him! Of the two Vegetarian dishes they had, I chose the Creamy Boatyard Risotto. It was AMAZING! So much flavor, so creamy... I wanted to lick the bowl! Alas, I could barely finish half of it because it was so rich. If I had been staying in a place with a readily available microwave, I totally would've taken it home for leftovers. My boyfriend didn't have that problem though, he devoured every piece of seafood on the platter. I also had a hot toddy, or as they call them over there, a hot whiskey, since I got sick early into the vacation (dang it), and it was lovely. I didn't hear my boyfriend complain about his two beers either. If we ever get to Dingle again (FINGER CROSSED!) I will definitely be putting this on the agenda for dinner! read more

Terrible experience from start to finish. I ordered red wine and when I received it, it was clearly old--color and taste were very off; it was undrinkable. They took it back and I asked for a different wine--same problem, old wine past its prime, undrinkable. They took it back again, with no questions asked which I appreciated. I then switched to a local cider. I've never, ever had to send back two different wines because they were old and undrinkable before. For dinner, I ordered the crab claws meal for 35 euros. When it arrived, it had exactly three TINY crab claws. The meal also included a crab and shrimp quiche that was cold, and a crab gratin that was also cold. Clearly the quiche and gratin are intended to be the bulk of the meal. The claws were great but such a tiny portion of the meal. Beware, if you want to enjoy crab claws, this is not the meal for you; I really felt duped. Was not worth 35 euros. I would never return to this restaurant, especially when there are so many other options in Dingle. read more

How can you not love a town named Dingle? And this was actually my second time here after 24 years. Jamie W. and I spent most of the day driving from Kilkenny to get to our hotel in Dingle by sunset. We barely made it and didn't feel like venturing too far into the quiet town to get something to eat. Fortunately, there was a full-fledged seafood restaurant just down the street facing the waterfront, and it had what looked to be a big tent addition to accommodate the influx of tourists dining in there. Jamie went for the €24.95 Taste of Dingle Bay Crab Trio, a dish they publicized with a plug from a New York Times food critic. I went in for a bite of the crab cake, and it was tasty in a mayo-saturated way, but the quiche was a bit too dry. I decided to go full gonzo and went for the €27.95 Wild Atlantic Seafood Platter. Scallops and crab claws were in a separate dish, and a huge basket of chips (fries) and deep-fried calamari rings were in a basket underneath the fish. Everything about this restaurant was excellent from the service, the amazing selection of seafood and fish entrees and the wine selection. I ordered the daily halibut special which is by far the best halibut that I've ever been served. I also appreciate the side dishes of vegetables and potatoes that were perfectly prepared and not overcooked. I would love to make multiple returns to this restaurant but it's a long flight from home however I will be sure to highly recommend it to friends visiting Dingle. read more

Walked in on a Monday afternoon in July with 5 small children and 3 adults. The place was full so we waited outside. The staff told us they did not serve food outside. As the kids played in the garden out back we met another one of the staff who turned out to be the owner, Gavin. He was funny, friendly and accommodating and he brought us menus and allowed us to eat outside, which was perfect for the kids. The kids enjoyed their fish n chips, including gluten free for our niece who has celiac - actually the gluten free options brought us in, in the first place. We ordered the steak sandwich and burger, which were beautifully presented and delicious. The onion rings on the burger were crispy and tender. Both served with salad and chips. Passing through we were attracted to this restaurant across from the harbor in Dingle. It turned out to be fairly expensive and sadly, the food was very bland. The part that bothered me the most though was the fact that they did not tell us they did not take credit cards. We could pay in US dollars which was 6% more. Disappointing! read more

The atmosphere is hard to beat. It's right there on the water, and although it was cloudy, you still felt serene sitting so close to the dock. The food itself was good, but I had higher expectations since it was highly recommended to me. I ordered their monkfish scampi, and the fact that it was fresh made it so much better than usual. It was a little heavier on the fried side for me (maybe to please tourists, but I wanted something a little more authentic). The wait staff was attentive, although there was a slight language barrier due to the slang and colloquial terms, so just make sure you enunciate what you want. As far as their patrons, everyone was quite friendly, and it would be a lovey place for a date or family lunch. After driving around the Dingle peninsula, we made our way into town for dinner here. Super glad made a reservation as it got very busy and people got turned away. So I ordered the wild Atlantic seafood platter - this contained the following: - Dingle bay seafood chowder - Buttered local Crab claws - Freshly steamed cromane mussels - buttered Local Scallops - Beer battered fish (Cod) - Homemade Guinness bread - Chips - three kinds of dipping sauce plus tomato ketchup So, firstly I have to say the Homemade Guinness bread is the BEST I have ever had - am kicking myself that didn't see if could get a loaf for the road. Also that bowl of chowder was lovely. The crab claws were so sweet! The scallop was meh but the petite mussels tasted so good - they had them in this cream and leek sauce which I slurped up. Calamari was also nice and my only disappointment honestly was with the chips which were wilted. All other members of my party also enjoyed their selections and scarfed down their fresh seafood options. BTW, I also realized later why bookings are recommended - they are a NYT top restaurant pick do you will here a lot of American accents in the dining room! Lovely service, good food and a winner! It was pissing rain in Dingle and we ran into this place. I am glad we didn't have a chance to check Yelp because we totally would have avoided it judging by the reviews. The bad reviews I don't quite understand. I thought the food was pretty bloody good. Staff were very friendly. My friend ordered the plaice and chips special. This was huge. 3 pieces of fish. I wanted something lighter and the girl suggested I go with the crab and shrimp open sandwich. This was just perfect. My sandwich was full of fresh crab meat and shrimp. For the price I thought it was pretty reasonable considering the amount of seafood which was on my plate. Granted this place does seem quite touristy. You can tell this by the staff. They are gearing towards the Yanks on vacation. But don't let that put you off. From my experience that day this place deffo deserves a visit. I would suggest ordered from the daily specials. They seem more reasonably priced compared to the standard mains. Or go with something lighter like I did. Still filled me up as it was a big portion but it wasn't as heavy as the other dishes.
