Really cute place, with spacious rooms. We stayed upstairs in one of the large suites facing the water. The rooms aren't oceanfront, because there's a road in front of it and trees blocking most of the view. There was a refrigerator in the room, plenty of towels, and a really comfortable bed. An honest review: I stayed here for 1 night, on a quick trip. There are both pros and cons to the inn. Overall it was a good stay but I do feel that their website is a bit misleading. To start off with the positives; the location is nice, the woman at the front desk was pleasant, the room was very clean, spacious, tons of closet and dresser space. The mini fridge and keurig were nice to have. As was the wall mounted electric fireplace (just for ambiance). Now for the "just okay" stuff, the tv has dish but that's it. There was no way to connect to any apps or options besides basic dish. The WiFi was a bit spotty. The parking lot is tight and small. The bed was mostly comfortable but the mattress is definitely on the thin side. The mini fridge rattled every 30 mins or so. The building is old so the walls and doors definitely look worn down. All of which were not huge deals to me. Now, on to the cons. This is where I find the website to be misleading. First the ocean views may be visible from the top floor, most expensive rooms, however my view from a bottom level king suite, was the construction site next door, the highway, and a peek-a-boo view of the ocean from a break in the trees across the highway. I also had no sliding door or any outside space other than the shared decks in front of the inn. There is also no restaurant or food/drink available to order. However, the worst part (in my opinion), is the noise! I could hear every step taken above me, every time someone scooted a chair, turned on a shower, etc... I could also hear very clearly everything happening outside my room. To the point of worrying that the tv in my room would be too loud for the other guests. If I was to stay again, I would definitely request a room on the second floor. Overall I would say it's a decent inn and a good option if you're needing a quick overnight stay. A bit overpriced but I feel that tends to be anywhere close to the ocean. If you're looking for something fancy or newer with more updated amenities, I would go elsewhere. read more

We stayed here one night for a quick getaway. The room was fine. Clean. View was of the mini mart and gas station next door. NBD. We were there for the area, not the room. Well, I discovered a week later that a beautiful silk negligee I brought didn't make it home with me. So I called and left a VM asking if they had a lost and found. No return call. So I called again. Got a nonfriendly sounding woman on the phone. She said they did have a lost and found, was going to call housekeeping and would get back to me. Got a text moments later: "They found it, accidentally washed it, then threw it away. Sorry." What's the point of having a lost and found if you're going to throw something BRAND NEW away? WTF? I'm pretty sure someone picked themselves up a lovely little nightie. And FFS if you're going to lie, lie the right way by saying you never saw it. read more

Came here for a little weekday getaway with a couple of friends. We got the garden view penthouse and it was truly wonderful. It was spacious and had nice views. It wasn't as near the ocean as I thought it would be, but the morning views were beautiful. The boutique hotel is family owned. The place was clean but the TV and some appliances could use a bit of an upgrade. The deck where you can hang out was my favorite. Very intimate and romantic at night Loved everything in this place except: - Hot water takes awhile to get on. And sometimes it gets too hot you have to shut it off again and find a new spot, it doesn't easily adjust - The faucet in the bath has really high pressure so beware, they did put a note in - No service workers after 10pm I wish they had breakfast included but you have to order food from a nearby place and that is fine. There is a gas station and a mart next to it so that was convenient. read more

I am genuinely surprised by all the 5 stars for this place. Pros: The room is very spacious. The room I stayed at was very nice. I will give them that. But that doesn't make up for all the other stuff for me. Cons: 1. The two young women who were at the front desk had no hospitality skills. Very mean girl vibes. When I asked if I was walking distance to the beach/had coastal access from that location, the young woman did not have any idea and mentioned a beach she could think of that was nearby by when prompted. lol. Turns out the answer is not really. Montara State Beach is about a quarter mile away (north, back towards Pacifica) but because of the freeway it is not safe to walk. 2. Also they have. the thing for the ice machine in the rooms. But the ice machine is in a room that says "employees only" in the kitchen area. You have to go all the way in that room and turn left. Why is it a room that says "employees only." If you are going to do that, you need to explicitly tell your guests. 3. Water definitely takes a while to get hot. The shower more so than the sink idk why. I actually saw this mentioned on one of the reviews here. Definitely an issue enough that I think they should try to address it or at the very least let their guests know upon arriving. 4. There is a lil note at the front desk that says " Check out is at 11:00 AM. You will be charged if you check out after 11:15 AM" To come in as a guest and see that lil note at their front desk... super off putting. Not a good look. 5. The suites that claim to be oceanviews are in a way....yes you can technically see the water. But there is the highway in between so its not so much as when you think "ocean-views." A little deceiving if you ask me. 6. The pastries they put out there in the morning are gross. From the reviews it looks like they did have breakfast in the past, not anymore. These rooms are over 300 bucks, totally not worth it. Ultimately for me, hospitality goes a long way. It costs nothing to be nice. read more

Agoda made a significant error when I book the room. I telephoned a few hours before check-in to ask if I might be able to arrive early since I was not feeling up to par. The person who spoke with me was exceedingly kind. My reservation had been canceled, but she kindly reinstated it and told me to come ahead and climb into bed and feel better soon. How kind! Our room was spacious, spotless, the furniture made sense, there was a reasonably sized refrigerator, a table and chairs, and the bathroom was large and the tile beautiful. The lighting in the main room was the best I've ever seen in any hotel room. There were so many options! All of the staff were kind and helpful. They made us feel welcome. The only downside was the lack of adequate sound proofing. We were fortunate that there did not seem to be many people near us, but there was a short period of time of loud voices, and if the hotel was full, I imagine it could get loud. It might be worth ear plugs for all the other niceties. It's definitely worth a try! read more

We try and stay here at least once a year. We happened to arrive later in the day and the day was cloudy. But don't let the weather stop you. The town wasn't as busy and we had a nice dinner at Sam's chowder house. (They had many gluten free options) The garden room has a partial ocean view. It is very spacious.We honestly had a good nights rest. You figure because the hotel is so close to the freeway it would be louder, but it didn't disrupt our sleep. The breakfast spread had many options. Cereal, bagels, croissants, hard boiled eggs, mini breakfast sandwiches and some granola bars. Water, juice and of course coffee! Stayed at the Ocean View Inn for 2 nights over Valentine's Day weekend. My husband and I stayed in room 1, the Ocean View Penthouse Suite. It was around $350/night for this room, but it is worth it. If you have the extra funds, book this room if its available, you will not regret it. It a great room for honeymoons, anniversaries, and other special occasions. This room came with everything- comfy bed, huge couch for lounging, electric fireplace, dining room table, fridge, microwave, coffee maker, and a nice bathroom with a big shower. The room also comes with a huge balcony with chairs that look out to the ocean. We enjoyed everything this room had to offer. Everyone we encountered who works at the hotel is super friendly. It is a small hotel with a only a few workers, so it honestly felt more like a B&B than a hotel. We were happy to support a small business than give our money to a big hotel chain. The lobby/breakfast area was also decorated nicely for Valentine's Day, which we appreciated. Since the hotel is so small with only 9 rooms, it is very quiet. We didn't hear any noise from any of the neighboring rooms, and when we closed our patio door, we didn't hear any noise from Highway 1. My partner and I live in the Bay Area and are frequent local travelers about 3-4 times monthly, and we preferred to experience various lodging accommodations along the coast from Santa Barbara all the way to Mendocino. And we do have our favorite places that are worth revisiting. We have stayed at OVI a couple of times earlier this year, and needless to say -- we really enjoyed the experience both times in different rooms. The rooms are top notch for their uniqueness, cleanliness and quietness. The view from suite 1 ain't bad ;) We literally stayed in our rooms during most of our stays just to enjoy the gorgeous view. So happy we found this place. The lady at the front desk gave us an upstairs room with a view because she had the availability. Room 5 was nice and clean and well kept. I loved the slider with access to a lounge area on the patio outside of our room. I am a big fan of the laminate floors! I hate carpet! You can tell they invested a lot of money into making this place nice and comfortable for guests. I liked how the breakfast was Grab-and-go style. I get iffy with shared foods and juices so the packaged products were perfect. The only thing was the shower took a few minutes to heat up, but it did eventually. Inside the room it really felt like you are staying in a rustic modern cabin somewhere in the Mountains except you are literally across from the beach! The place was clean, quiet and the staff was polite. I also think it's important to point out this is a black owned business, so please support it !! You will not be disappointed The weather was not working for us since it was gloomy this valentines weekend but in some ways it made it more romantic to stay in! Really glad we found this spot for our weekend trip! The Inn is walking distance to Montura beach and super close to the water. If you book the right room, you can see the ocean from your shared balcony. The room is super clean and they have a mini ice-maker in the room! Saw some reviews complain about the bed, but we didn't have that issue at all. Thought it was super comfy! The windows are great at blocking out the outdoor sounds, but the walls are a bit thin so you can hear talking in the corridors. read more

We didn't get to stay here, but this review is based solely on their attitude and response. I'm sure when we finally do get to stay there our rating will go up. We were booked to stay a couple nights at the Ocean View Inn in mid February, but our Son-in-Law was in a severe auto wreck just before that and was hospitalized, which caused us to cancel all our plans and care for 2 of our granddaughters. We had made our reservation through Booking.Com, and they indicated the cancellation period had passed. But the Ocean View Inn establishment didn't feel that way. After informing of our predicament and of Booking.Com's policy, Ocean View Inn sent me a message and let Booking.Com know they would cancel our reservation without penalty or charges. **Update** 07/20/22 In regards to the owners comments about my yelp reviews, I have left exactly 6 with half being negative and half being positive. So calling out how I have reviewed other business without stating the true facts are skewing it in your favor. In regards to the walls, brownish and yellow stains on the walls that wipe off are not normal wear and tear. Scuff marks, scratches, dents, etc. are all normal wear and tear. As you can see from the photos, both rooms were dirty regardless of the size and were not in the condition displayed online. We were never offered a refund at all, if we had been we would have left in a heartbeat. The cleanliness is clearly an issue based off of reviews left by others. My reviews are always an honest account of my experience at a business. I just wanted to leave this review to give an honest account of our stay here. The description and pictures on the website are quite deceiving. We were very excited leading up to our stay here based off what we saw online. Upon checking in we were hit with what I would describe as a public restroom smell in the lobby. The smell was present throughout the common area as well as in our room. We immediately noticed problems with the room. There was stains on the walls, sheets, pillows, as well as numerous hairs on our sheets and pillows. We asked for the sheets to be changed and the second pair of sheets again had hair and stains on them. We were told by the cleaning person it is because of their dryer, which is not an acceptable way to run a place where people sleep. I reached out to the staff again to try and simply leave and had to contact them again just to find out what their resolution would be. We were then offered and upgraded room. We took a look at the room and saw that there were what appeared to be old stains/wear and tear spots on the sheets, furniture, and walls, but no hair. My pregnant wife, son, and myself were so tired and ready to start our stay that we reluctantly accepted it ,because they weren't giving us our money back and we didn't want to ruin our whole trip and also waste money on a two night stay. We asked for extra towels to sleep on and sit on because it was so gross in the room. Then we realized it was a queen bed (when we originally paid for a king) and my husband had to sleep on a dirty old couch and the bed dipped down horribly in the middle. None of us got sleep for our entire stay. You can also hear everything through the walls and the large gap under the door. They also neglected to mention that while there is a partial ocean view from the room, you are looking mostly at a gas station roof with graffiti. I wasn't expecting the Ritz-Carlton but this place definitely was not worth the money. It just feels like this is a common problem based off how they handled the situation. read more

Wow! Where to start! This was a great honeymoon moon experience for me and my wife. She really enjoyed the champagne on ice. The room was clean and spacious. The amenities were new and up to date. Andrea was the best and her place is amazing. The ocean view and patio were just one of a kind. With the cafe right next door made it easy to access a quick bite. I would recommend this place to any and everyone who are looking for a great stay that is clean, elegant, and cozy ! Well ill start this by saying i definitely wont be back if you couldn't guess. The room was decently clean although there was a dead fly in the shower, and hot/cold valve in the shower required jangling to get it to actually control the water. You could feel the springs in the mattresses when you laid down on the firmest mattress ive ever had the misfortune of sleeping on. The blinds did not rotate when you turned the wand and the fabric on the blinds were out of its slots(see pictures). There was a chandelier type thing with a couple burnt out bulbs. The closet door was hanging off its track. And the real kicker. The electricity. I watched the lights in my room and the cafe next door fluctuate every few minutes, so the lights are constantly getting brighter and dimmer. That was actually kind of scary, electrical problems like that are no joke. Oh and when all the lights are off at night, there is still a light on in the recessed ceiling that you cant turn off, that was fun trying to get to sleep with it keeping the room well enough lit to see around. Definitely got ripped off for the price i paid. I highly recommend you stay away from this place no matter how desperate you are after the last year, thats what they're counting on! read more

Our families new favorite vacation spot! We have been living in Fremont for 30yrs and never new the city Montara even existed. We are so happy to have now found this Hidden Gem and the owners are doing a wonderful job by making it a great experience for all families. The staff was welcoming and the location is perfect. Pretty much a half way mark between Half moon Bay and Pacifica. Multiple great beaches to choose from for the whole family. One more thing we loved was how easy and convenient it was to get your breakfast delivered to your door by filling out a sheet the night before. Perfect! We stayed here in early November and it was cozy with breathtaking view. During so many COVID restrictions they made us feel safe and still managed to bring us breakfast to our room. Our family had such an amazing time here last weekend. We were able to stay in the garden penthouse and absolutely loved it. So cozy and had a very big balcony to really enjoy your morning coffee while you look out to the ocean. Not to mention the great care/service we received from the staff. Loved the location as it is only 10mins from Half moon bay and 8mins from Pacifica. Our family even took a day trip to San Francisco! Highly recommend this place for your next vacation. First I will start by saying the family who runs this building is very welcoming and very nice. I enjoyed my stay there, we were located right next to a liquor store where we could get anything we needed, the family who owned it was very friendly. The inn had a variety of breakfast snacks and drinks. Oatmeal, yogurts, boiled eggs, cheese and lots of drinks and cereal too. They allow access into the building 24.7 as long as you had a key card to get through the front door after hours, so we felt extremely safe and secure. The room was huge, beautiful wide layout. We were given plenty of towels and had a good selection of shampoo and conditioner which worked perfect on my hair (Doesnt happen often with hotel products). You had all the tv and movie channels, free wifi and a beautiful shared deck. The only downfalls were the room walls were very thin so you could hear the neighbors next to you very easily. And the beds NEED foam toppers because they are so stiff and hard. My shoulders would pop turning over on them. I almost slept on the couch, BUT despite the bad bed and thin walls its very worth the stay. We will be coming back. Its perfectly located in between multiple beaches. There was not a lot of traffic or crowds where its located. If you head out that way i suggest taking the extra drive and heading toward point reyes north beach. Dont let the freeway scare you away from staying here you really dont hear any traffic. This place is also very protective and clean regarding covid. I will be adding pictures soon. I came here for a night to get out of the bay area. After a busy day at the beach, it was an amazing place to relax and replenish. I stayed in the ocean view penthouse. The room was elegant, and I particularly enjoyed the ocean view from the balcony. Staff were all polite and informative. Ample parking, which is quite unique for the area. One night with the ocean waves put my mind at ease. Snacks downstairs for breakfast. I had time to explore many local points of interest including restaurants and trails. We have mixed feelings with our stay! We booked the ocean view penthouse the view itself is amazing the room when you walk in it's beautiful but after walking thru and get familiar with it it's missing a lot. The small closet with iron board is so old they forgot to renew it it's very dirty and old. Has not been clean at all. Good thing they have the big dressers with many drawers. The door has a big gap and when I say big I mean huge you can almost see the hall and the door across (laughs). The place could use some deep cleaning. In the bathroom there was a sock underneath the table who knows how long it had been there. The shower is amazing though. For the price they should at least have robes or extra towels........ Continental breakfast is just coffee bottle orange juice and pastries and dry oranges (hot water for tea was cold as ice). People in the front are very nice!!!
