90% of the books here went to the store

I brought in 80+ PRISTINE, HIGH DEMAND books, hoping to get at LEAST $300 for them, as they are about $650 all together (yes I calculated the market price for them). I was offered $55 for them. And when I tried to argue about how ridiculous that is, I was told that I "needed to be more educated" on how their system works and that I shouldn't have brought any books in if I didn't read how their book selling policy is. I had two huge bags full of business and investment books I wanted to either sell or donate and found this place. So I decided to give it a go. I was very impressed with the friendly employees. They explained they will scan all the books and make a cash offer based on their selling prices at the store. They also will donate and recycle the books. I thought what a great concept and was all in! I was told there was only one person ahead of me but I ended up waiting for over 45 minutes and heard 6 peoples names announced prior to mine which was not transparent at all. They took all the books and offered a measly $13.29! I wasn't expecting to make a fortune but that was pretty ridiculous. While waiting I decided to look around and saw that they do have a great selection of books, games and puzzles. I especially liked the children's section- Half Pint Books, that was very tidy with a good selection of books. They even have a clearance section in the back. Based on the incredibly low prices they offer, I thought their selling prices were on the high end but I guess that is part of doing business. I think next time I'll just donate my books as it's not worth my time just to get a few bucks.

I stopped in here awhile back trying to sell some dvds and get some extra cash. Thanks to the person that was helping me for telling me up front and not wasting my time-that they give you 1 price for everything (even if they don't want it) and that's it. So, say you bring in 100 items and they actually buy 10-you're going to lose all 100 for that price they will pay for those 10 items. Do yourself a favor and skip this place and go to Bookmans or Zia Records. They only take what they pay for. Half Price Books are thieves!!! Never again will I set foot in there!

For years, heck over a decade, I have been shopping at this location. Who doesn't love books at a discount?! I love recycling and secondhand stores, so this is right up my alley. I love how organized and stocked this location is no matter the time of day or time of year. I honestly have never seen this place picked through, and will be a frequent shopper here.

I was shopping, and waiting for my trade offer for some items I brought in. I asked to look at a Collector Comic Book that was locked in a case. I asked the staff member if I could take the book out and look a it because I wanted to make sure nothing was cut out of the comic. He immediately became defensive, and his attitude became hostile. I said "if there is anything cut out it's not worth $25 and I want to check. If I damage it while looking at it, I'll pay for it." His response wasn't helpful or understanding, it was pushy and abusive. "You should just get these while you see them. No one has these, and I've never seen one in our store since I've been here". I said "I have been collecting comics all of my life, and if there is anything cut out, it's not worth $10 to me". Again, instead of being friendly and asking anything helpful or asking questions, he was pushy and forceful, and became even more irritated when I pointed out the water damage on the back of the comic and told him I didn't want it. He was very unfriendly from the start. A toxic person, to be as kind as I can be. I received notice that my trade offer was ready, but I cancelled my trade offer, and walked out of the store with the items I had brought to trade. I WILL NEVER RETURN AS LONG AS THAT PERSON WORKS THERE. When I advised the staff of what happened, they seemed disinterested in doing anything. I asked them "how can you allow a person who treats customer this was to work here, and why would you want to work here if the business allows this?" They all looked at me with blank stares on their faces. A manager did talk to me, but it was the same attitude as the rude employee. He didn't introduce himself my name. He didn't try to find out the name of the employee. His attitude, like the rude staff member, was an attitude of not wanting to be there, an attitude of feeling irritated that they have to actually talk to a customer and assist them, an attitude of superiority and entitlement, an attitude that their customers do not matter to them and that they don't respect people in general. I advised their manager on duty that I work as a customer service consultant, and the employees treatment was unacceptable. He did offer complimentary credit, but did not indicate how much. I declined and told them honestly "I don't care if you pay me a Billion dollars in cash, I don't want it if that person works here. What he did was unacceptable and he should be fired". I am sure they won't do anything, and I want everyone to know that Bookman's is a TOXIC company who does not appreciate their customers, and they will screw you over and abuse you if you go there.

I asked for a couple of items, and the person behind the counter, could not be bothered to show me where the items I asked for were. The first item I asked for was at the cas wrap, so that item, I could find myself. The second item, which was a book, the person pointed to a sign, and asked if I saw it. When I said no, they then replied, "the isle before the young adult books." This was just really poor customer service. If you can, choose another Barbes and Noble. Anyone!!!!

I like how friendly the staff is at the establishment; they are always welcoming you with a warm smile the moment you walk in and are happy to answer any questions you have about books. Since I have come to appreciate reading and writing over the years, I enjoy visiting this bookstore because it has a nice, quiet atmosphere, and I have found some interesting books there that I can see serving as inspiration down the road. The last time I visited the store, I noticed an older lady having trouble reaching a book, so I helped her get it, and she appreciated the kind gesture. I always enjoy helping others in need. Another thing I like about this store is its book prices, and I can totally see myself purchasing a book from them in the future. Every experience at the store has been enjoyable, and I look forward to stopping by the next time I am in the Youngtown area.

Had to check it out because other than Barnes & Noble there isn't much in bookstores on the west valley. Tons of used books. This isn't a place for new books. But if you wait a month or two you might find a new book that's been traded in. Their books are in overall great condition. Some of the best condition I have seen for used books. I found a book from my favorite author I've never seen before and a leather bound Louie Lamore book for 10 bucks! The staff is SUPER friendly and they do trade ins up to 33% of the books original value.

Imagine my delight to realize that the Changing Hands Tempe location was mere minutes away from our previous stop! Of course, we had to visit. I was immediately engrossed by the assortment of non-cheesy and extremely cool gift items that were at the front of the store, but also sprinkled throughout the location. I also really enjoyed that they had both new and used books. I try to limit myself to purchasing used books for environmental concerns, but it's tricky to find new titles pre-owned, so I justified a splurge and purchased two new books. The prices for both new and used books were extremely fair. In addition to the copious amounts of books, gift items, indie bookstore merch, and everything else wonderful, they also have a photo booth! My sister and I have an agreement to indulge in every photo booth we stumble upon, so we were super excited to happen upon one here. I can't say enough good things about this spot. I'm already excited to return.
