I have been to this location so many times and I've always been impressed with how clean and organized it is! I know some think half price books can be hit or miss, this location has NEVER failed me. I always leave here with more than I thought I would with the biggest smile on my face. The ladies at the checkout were helpful and make pleasant conversation that doesn't feel forced, which is so nice. Often times they'll comment on the book selection you've brought over and if you're lucky, they've read it too! I highly recommend if you're trying to get into reading or just need a space to clear your head! read more

Sad state of affairs when I go here after going to a half dozen different record stores in town and spend more money here than at all the other stores combined. So I guess way to go Half Price Books, you are the best record store in the Omaha area, and that fact should deeply sadden a lot of people, principally the owners of the actual record stores in town. We don't usually shop here, mainly because we don't like how they destroy books they don't want. But the prices are very good for books in very good condition. I found three cozy mysteries to put on my TBR shelf. Bookguy was excited to find bound comic book collections priced much less than what he could find online. Nice, clean, well layed out store. I brought in some books to sell and browsed around while waiting for them to process my box of goods. I was a little disappointed with the offer of $9 for my large box of hardly used, almost pristine books but I understand they sell them at a fraction of the regular price so it was better than nothing. They have a section for everything, even VHS tapes. Definitely a good place to go when in need of some new reading material. read more

A really good place to get new and used books. You can even find a small, but decent selection of video games. A very large selection of blurays and solid vinyl collection. It's always a good place to kill some time and explore. Only downfall is their prices can be a little on the high side on certain items. Still, it beats waiting for those items to come in the mail from online sites. read more

This place is stuffed to the nines, with all kinds of books (obviously), but also a handful of CDs and comics. It was also stuffed with people, as apparently this is an Omaha Hot Spot (TM). Since it takes very few people to clot up the narrow aisles (did I mention this place is stuffed to the nines?) and it is evidently common practice to people to sit and hang out and actually just read the books right there, this place tried my patience a lot, but having experienced the Half-Price network solely through online, it was kind of interesting to actually go inside one of them...which I probably won't be doing again, as it wasn't worth the fight to park ultimately. read more

For this review, I am only commenting on this store's cleanliness, which is deplorable. For well over a year now, HPB has done nothing to make itself presentable. At the entry, shards of scotch tape from signs torn off months ago. The windows are cloudy from not being washed in years. Duct tape arrows are still on the floor from when they were ordering people where to walk from the pandemic while a coating of dust covers the floors from tracked-in dry mud. It. Is. Filthy. I know the staff kind of prides themselves as kind of latter-day hippies who aren't hung up on appearance and that's cool, but it shouldn't be carried over to the workplace. It seems that Bookstores are far from dead when you walk into half price books. Typically there is a bustle of activity and a lot of patrons. They sell and buy used books of all genres and ages. There is also some musical selection. I love this place because it focuses on reuse and renewal for literature. I'm still someone who reads on paper and have not yet adopted audiobooks or digital copies on my iPad. There's just something about a physical book that I love so much; reminding me of my younger days and entire summer's just spent devouring books in my local library. They're typically really good deals here and I rarely ever pay more than eight dollars for a fiction novel. I've been a patron for almost 10 years? Staff is helpful and loves books. I come to half price books twice a week, usually looking for manga and graphic novels. For the most part I love it but the last few times have been difficult. Staff is completely fine but the prices seem questionable, when the book is rare, out of stock, new or out of print it makes sense to price them accordingly but I was a little miffed to find that Heart stoppers wasn't half price when I bought it. It's not new, out of print, or anything. It's just a book that they over charge for on their website so they over charge for it in their home locations. ----------- I came in today to discover a correctly priced heart stoppers copy. It's was cheaper and I was confused and brought it up with the worker, I even mentioned how I had been misled on a previous visit about how it was suppose to be priced. This is a pretty cool bookstore. They have a little bit of everything and the prices are generally pretty good. I have been coming here off and on for years and it's never let me down. I used to love this place, but I may not return. I enjoyed browsing the clearance CDs, which are $1.00, $2.00, and $3.00. Whereas most of the selections used to be priced at $1.00, now they are mostly $2.00 and $3.00, at a time when the demand for CDs has plummeted. I used to be able to find some gems. Not so much anymore. I didn't buy a thing today. The store used to offer little red stools for customers to browse more comfortably on the rows near the floor. I noticed one of those stools sitting on a cart and asked an employee if I could use it. "No," was the unnecessarily blunt response from the officious young man, "Those are for employees." Isn't it interesting how one independent, unkind employee can damage the goodwill so many others have worked years to build? read more

I cannot believe I haven't yet reviewed this location. As a nerdy academic, I enjoy reading. Most of the reading I do is for work but I do occasionally get a chance to read for pleasure. But, my kids are avid readers and we love coming to Half Price Books to scan the shelves for literary treasures. They have a wide range of books for all ages and interests. Besides books, they also have comics, music, and maybe some movies? Not sure on the movie part, so don't quote me on that. But, it's worth stopping in every so often because they do get new stuff in quite regularly, if they don't have what you are looking for while there. We take our kids here for the summer to get reading books & during the school year I take all the books back & get a few $$ on the side! They also buy\sell CD's; music & work out/fitness! You'll find some oldies but goodies here! Take a look around, I'm sure you'll find Much More!! I applaud the staff here that do a wonderful job keeping this place neat, clean & well organized! You should gather up all your books & take them here. It usually only take 20 minutes to find out what they're willing to pay you. Just remember, this is a used store, don't expect top $$. This is one of the best places to go for books, just make sure you carve out at least an hour or more for your time there. What I like most about half priced books, is that it's like a box of chocolates, you never know what you're going to get. Rarely do I go in with a particular book in mind, because unlike most bookstores, they accept books as trade ins and I have found some jewels as a result. I absolutely love old books, sometimes not even for the content, but for the beauty. Leather bound books with gold gilding just aren't made any more, so to have a few on my bookshelf, looks beautiful. With that said, I've also found some true treasures at amazing prices, like the complete works of Zora Neale Hurston for $10, WOW! I was simply ecstatic when I found this book, I used to have all of her books, but when I moved to Omaha, I left my books behind because I had no room in my truck. And I can tell you that leaving beloved books behind, is almost as sad as leaving my doggie behind (which I also did, my mother wouldn't let me take her). So yes, I am busy recreating my library and thanks to Half priced books, I'm on my way! read more

I hands down really enjoy this place. I find it very hard to find things that really take me back to my youth with all the technology these days and the record section here really does that for me. Best records selection and old movies selection I could ask for. Not to mention the massive selection of romance novels they have here. This place is okay. I know they rip you off if you are selling books, you get like a dollar fitty for a mountain of books. Their clearance book section is decent. I used to like checking out their clearance DVD rack when they were a dollar. Now the clearance movies are $3.00 which is WAY TOO MUCH to take a chance on some crappy movie. With nothing specific in mind, I came home with a haul decidedly devoid of rhyme or reason: The Tale of Genji Crime and Punishment Ursula K. LeGuin's Earth Sea Trilogy Neil Gaiman's Norse Mythology Several Dean Koontz novels to keep me company during my late-night battles with IBS. Not to knock Mr. Koontz; his novels just complement my desire to have more than one organ feel disbelief and suspense at once. A Wrinkle in Time Great Thinkers of the Eastern World I spent less than $50 on all of these, and I'm sure I'm forgetting some other titles. Of course this is thanks to them buying people's books for next to nothing. While I don't have a problem with that, I think it would perhaps be nice (also likely discouraging) that the business be upfront about its payouts. Sure, dusty old books aren't going to be worth much, but the time one spends waiting for them to determine the worthlessness of your belongings is. :D You're going to be able to pay for 3 hours of parking downtown with your score, not a yacht. I walked in the door & was immediately greeted with "you can put them down right there" & started through the selling process. I said I wanted to donate them, but the guy buried in books said I'd get some money if I could cool my jets for 15 minutes. They must have some one new pricing records, they are over priced on the used and new side. One the good side, they have a lot if nice books and they buy and sell books too. The store is clean and staff were very helpful and friendly. I Wish they had one closer to midtown. read more

This is easily my favorite bookstore in Omaha. It's very easy to self navigate but if you do need help, the workers are eager and knowledgable. If you don't know what you want to read, go talk to someone who works there. They are amazing at their jobs and give out great recommendations. They also have a stock of new books, so if you are looking for a best seller that hit the shelves last week, half priced will still probably have it (but it won't be half priced). Which leads me to my next point. This place is very affordable. Many hardcovers are less than $7. The clearance shelves are fully stocked and you can get most classics for $5 and many books even sell for $2. If you are in a high school or college literature class, this store sells classics at cheaper prices than Amazon. They will also check stock for customers over the phone, which is really convenient when you don't have time to come and search yourself. read more

They also buy DVDs so I'll keep them in mind when I make the digital leap there as well... As far as used books go, this is a very well organized addition. Half Price Books is just a really cool store where you can grab some real gems in the books/records/games department for super cheap. The selection is ever-rotating, making it the type of store you just kind of stop by whenever you're in the area are have an hour or two to kill. Plus the staff are super-helpful and seem to like their jobs -- who wouldn't love being surrounded by all that cool "junk"? I scored a couple brand new hardcover books for about $10. I was also surprised by their record section. There was a nice selection of new and used vinyl (especially the 180g reissues of several jazz classics). I am in LOVE with this store. I am a book junkie and go through them like water and air. The staff is always super nice and, best part, if you say you're just looking - they let you look without constant pestering. I like to wander around and peruse the books, especially the cooking/wine/entertaining section. This place used to be my go-to for vinyl. I always would stop by a few times per week, as there could usually be a few good albums to be had at a decent price. Not anymore. The pricing literally went up to a laughable level over the past two weeks. When I say laughable, I mean it. Used top name records are priced the same as brand new. Bob Dylan Greatest for $18? Duran Duran Notorious for $10? What's half price mean? Full new Price for used? I'm out. I'm gonna spend my money at an honest shop where they don't gouge you. Good while it lasted. read more

What can I say - I love this place! They have a great selection and the inventory is well organized, especially with the recent remodel. The chidlren's section is expanded and fun to browse. They also sell a nice variety of cards, boxed sets of notecards, calendars, bookmarks, book lights, and other reading paraphernalia. That's not to mention the used vinyl, CDs, DVDs, etc. It's nice to have a place to trade in these items as well. Even if you don't get much, something is better than nothing! This place has a huge selection of great books at unbeatable prices. There is even a section of $1.00 to $3.00 books. The place promotes recycling and wont give you a bag unless you ask for one or buy a reusable bag. The bad points about this place. Don't resell your books here.
