I don't give one star reviews...this experience tested this. Let me start positive. This place has an awesome vibe and decor. Whoever designed this location and decorated it, killed it. Comfortable and quaint Cajun feel. I love the Half Shell brand, this is the 5th location that I've tried. Prior to this, 3 of 4 of the Half Shells I've tried have been fabulous and consistently very good. This is the first Half Shell location that I've dined at that only our server checked on us and our experience. No interest from management or other servers. Late brunch arrival, but I think our server was over sat, so reduced fault to him. This is the first review I've written that possibly involves fraud. I took pictures because the food pricing on the menu does not match what they charged me. I don't know how my wife's "happy hour $7 Bloody Mary" turned into +$14.00 on the receipt...we did ask for Tito's, but does this double the price? Ok, maybe we give a pass on that, but it did not come with olive and the glass was not seasoned as described in the drink menu...and like every other Bloody Mary that we've ordered at the other Half Shells. I chose the brunch country fried steak as my meal. I will say the hash brown sticks were fantastic and the gravy wasn't bad but my filet "country fried steak" was over fried and salty. I did not finish it. Guess what folks, the price on the menu did not match what I was billed (and paid). Yep, that over fried and salty steak costs $20. The front of house staff were hustling, so I don't blame them though I did see one of the managers several times. They did not check on us, and I didn't see them check on any tables. This is uncharacteristic for the brand, I love the brand and group. Does a $3 overcharge from the menu price break me? No, I've reviewed Spago and done reviews on multiple continents. Whether I'm paying $450 for a meal or $50, don't deceive me. This was a 3 star review prior to me receiving my bill and 4th out of five Half Shells, but given the fact (in my photos) that the food and drink did not match delivered product and/or price, I struggled with maybe giving this a one star review. Our experience was clearly the worst of the Half Shells locations. I will not try again, this is the first establishment that I've reviewed where the prices on the menu did not match the bill. To be fair, I did ask our server about the discrepancy in the drink Delivery versus description and he brushed it off. I still did tip my server 20%, because I really didn't think any of this was his fault, though he could have told us there was an up charge for the drink selection, if there really was that resulted in doubling the price. The screams tourist trap, and I had high hopes, but I will avoid.

    Eating Sweet Potatoes

I made it for the first day grand opening and it is pretty much like the other Half Shell locations I've visited. They do nice shrimp, oysters and fish. Their sweet potato casserole is very well done and is the absolute best thing they serve here! Their sides are generally better than most places. The service is generally around fine dining quality as is the ambiance while still being a bit laid back. All of my friends have been extraordinarily impressed with the sweet potatoes.

Thrifting on a dreary day visiting the beach and ended up in Foley. We stopped for lunch and being from Louisiana this place was our choice! We took quite a while to decide what to order for everything on the menu looked amazing! We started with the fried green tomatoes and crab cakes, did not disappoint! Entrees were red beans and rice, really good smoky flavor and beans cooked to perfection! Voodoo shrimp poboy, somewhat sweet and spicy sauce on shrimp, Gambinos bread always amazing! Fried shrimp and charbroiled oysters, perfect! The service was a bit slow for the time of day we were there, 2:00ish. Our waitress Amber was super friendly! Loved the atmosphere, jazz in the background, brick and oyster shell clad walls. I branched out and got the watermelon splash, very tasty and 1 of the only pictures I got! Would definitely stop there again if ever in the area!!

This is a fantastic restaurant for Foley! Great drinks (not alcohol forward, consumable lol), good seafood, and excellent atmosphere & service! Our waitress was excellent and kept our table clean and glasses full, even though she was busy. Will be coming back!

A new addition to foley. Ordered the corn crab bisque. Very tasty. Also ordered seafood platter with shrimp and crab cakes. Tasted good but could've been warmer. Also had the asparagus with blue cheese. Staff are friendly . Will give it another try in the future.

Hominy, hush puppies, cornbread, grits, Alabama white sauce on any meat, especially smoked chicken, are all popular in Alabama. BBQ is practically a religion in the South! As former certified Kansas City Barbeque Society (KCBS) certified judges, my husband and I completed the training and paid the fees to be certified. The "KCBS way" is different from a lot of people's preferences in that, for example, a BBQ rib should actually have some "pull" to it, meaning, when you bite into it, your mouth should leave a mark in the rib. This means "fall off the bones" ribs are not KDBS quality, despite how many love that rib consistency. The KCBS judges slots fill up so quickly and required us to travel at our own cost and we did not judge any KCBS events. Back to Southern food. Deep fried double Oreos are one of the many fried foods here in Huntsville, and Melt restaurant features them on their menu. Meat-and-Three restaurants feature a meat (usually fried pork chop, meatloaf, BBQ, fried catfish, country fried steak/chicken) and three sides (fried okra, creamed corn, mashed potatoes and gravy, baked potato, potato salad, cole slaw, French fries) and bread options such as cornbread, rolls, hush puppies. While Southern Cooking is absolutely delicious, I have to limit it because lets face it, it is high in calories and cholesterol. When I do indulge, it's shrimp and grits, pimento cheese, fried green tomatoes, and fried whole okra.

ATMOSPHERE Nothing too special about the atmosphere here. I just love that. It was nice clean open area with large windows and plenty of seating and easy to get around. Love that pimento cheese ball appetizer with that blueberry pepper jelly! For lunch, I had the meat and three. It was all good, especially the collard greens. SERVICE THIS WAS MAYBE SOME OF THE BEST SERVICE I HAD THE WHOLE TIME I WAS IN ORANGE BEACH THIS WEEKEND. OUR SERVER WAS SO AMAZING. I HATE THAT I CAN'T REMEMBER HER NAME, BUT SHE WAS ON TOP OF IT AND SUPER DELIGHTFUL. DRINKS The bar area looked really nice. Most of my table had iced tea which everybody enjoyed. I also got a beer from the Mississippi Gulf Coast. I was very impressed by their beer selection and they are a verified venue on the Untappd app so you can go to that app to look at all the beer selection and even filter and sort the beers so that you can have an easier time selecting the proper beverage. It even came out in a glass that matched the beer that I had! I like that extra touch.

But it was brought with the meal. The salad was fresh and crisp, with a surprise of a small Peppa dew pepper. Blazing red with a little heat and delicious. Haven't seen them in a restaurant ever. Unfortunately my fish and potatoes were cold, cold and butter congealed. The greens were warm and good I had also ordered the cornbread. It was refreshing to see that it wasn't the usual cake like kind, plus not the ultra sweet kind either. More bread like with a hint of sweetness. Delicious. The fish and potatoes had a nice flavor but unfortunately the cold food spoiled the experience. Since I was a guest of my sister I didn't say anything about the cold food. What a disappointment. Maybe when I return things will be better.

The 32 ounce mugs with your drink of choice is hilariously, huge and so generous... we also learned on this trip that you could purchase one of those jugs to go. The ambience is cool. It kinda reminds you of an old country restaurant with wooden benches and historical items, pictures, and memorabilia all throughout the entire restaurant. The biggest part and honestly a fun part for families is this is also the place that's coined "Throw em rolls" where they throw huge hat and fresh dinner rolls to your table so at any time you can see flying rolls throughout the dining room rooms. It's so much fun. I would definitely add this to your list if you are in the area to check out. The food, the service is really great and just a very simple, casual dining experience.
