Some friends and I were down celebrating Mardi Gras and was told great things about this restaurant. We decided to stop by for lunch and I was especially happy because they had an awesome lunch menu with discounted prices. We all ordered soup as an appetizer. I had the shrimp gumbo and my friends had the lobster bisque. Each soup was hot and fresh and had plenty of flavor and meat. For my entree, I had the seafood pasta and a side salad. Another friend had the grilled red fish and another friend had the grilled shrimp dish. Again just like the soup, each entree was packed with flavor and also came with a side, which was a plus. The only criticism I had was my pasta was on the dry side and by the time the waitress brought out more sauce, I was pretty much done. But it was that good, I didn't feel like waiting to eat it lol. For the lunch prices, the entrees were a good size and were very filling. The food was so good that we came back the next day for lunch again! Lol. The service was fantastic as well. My family visited Mobile for Mardi Gra and decided to try this restaurant. The oysters are amazing. My family ordered the oysters, seafood pasta and shrimp. Everyone was satisfied with their food and had no complaints. The restaurant is extremely popular and was really busy when we arrived. The hostess seated us quickly and it didn't take long for us to be served and to get our food. I ordered the pasta and was pleased with the flavor and portion. The dish had just the right amount of sauce and I was able to take a portion home. If you are in the Mobile area you should try this restaurant. One of the worst dining experiences I have had. The customer service, management, and operation of this restaurant were beyond negligent. We arrived at 6pm to request a table for 11, acknowledging the no reservation policy, 45 min was an acceptable wait time. 90 min later we still did not have a table, nor did the hostess or manager offer any consideration. We were finally offered to split the party. We had to go find silverware ourselves after asking 2 servers and the manager for sets. Wow oh wow, I never knew what I was missing out on by not going to Half Shell sooner! I knew Half shell was a small chain, so I figured that it wouldn't be as good as it was because sometimes the more restaurants equates to less a quality/taste/service (at least in my experience). Boy was I wrong and I'm a fan. We went on a Saturday night around 6pm, 20-30 min wait, you have the option to wait in your car, in the waiting area or at the bar if there are open seats. We snagged 2 bar stools, ordered some drinks and a dozen charbroiled oysters while we waited for our table. The oysters were SO GOOD that I ordered myself another 1/2 dozen before my dinner entree. We relocated to a table for dinner, we had a new waitress who said it was her first night on the floor serving and she did amazing! Everyone on the staff was fantastic, we found all to be helpful and friendly. For an entree, I went with the grilled chicken Alfredo (I know, weird choice for an oyster house) and I was impressed all around. Chicken had great flavor as did the noodles, and both reheated well (yup I had to take home left overs). I went with the sweet potato brûlée as a side and oh my goodness I didn't even need dessert after that, it was so good. My husband ordered the shrimp and grits, very flavorful! So much flavor packed onto one plate, yum yum yum. We finished with the bread pudding to top off a perfect meal. Sadly we did not snag any photos... the food was too good, I couldn't wait to dive in. This is one of our favorite seafood restaurants. We always enjoy the food and the atmosphere. We usually come here for special occasions like birthdays and anniversaries. We did have a great time last night with family and friends. The drinks were on point. I recommend the Pink Pearl Martini and the Wild Berry Martini. My dad and I had the Red Fish Orleans. It was so delicious. It had just the right amount of spice and the lump crab and blackened shrimp on top was delicious. my husband had the Pecan and Bacon encrusted red fish. He enjoyed it a lot. It was moist and flaky. My uncle had the herb encrusted mahi mahi and it was super flavorful. If you are looking for an appetizer, the crab "beignets " are fantastic!!! Light breaded lump crab with right amount of spice . We did run into a few snags w the restaurant. One, we called a couple days in advance to try and make reservations. We were told it was against their policy to accept reservations. I believe this is a little ridiculous. One, they are a more upscale restaurant and we did have a party of 15. The staff greeted us as we walked in and we were seated immediately. They have happy hour 3-6pm which includes discounted drinks and HH size appetizers. We ordered draft beer, a doze. charbroiled oysters, tuna dip, and shrimp and voodoo shrimp poboys. Everything was delicious and portions were generous. We ate here for a special occasion. We ate here several times before, a couple years ago and were pleased. The service was very good this time at the lunch hour. However, the food left much to be desired. My almond crusted chicken was good but the sauce was too too much, so I wiped it off. The chicken was very good as a leftover the next day. My husband had the oysters and they were overcooked. He was disappointed. The fries were yummy but the serving was small. I love grilled asparagus but this asparagus had a problem, as it was tough and stringy and I was unable to cut it with a knife. So it went uneaten. It appeared to be overcooked and dried out.
