Each cart is called by number and you get in a line before boarding. Before boarding they also take your picture which you can purchase at the end of the tour. Food options were delicious and they have extra options to add on such as appetizers and extra drinks. It was a 3 course meal with dessert. You are seated throughout the tour and have small breaks to get up and walk around. Truly a wonderful experience but be prepared to sit for long hours. I purchased the Legacy Experience. Overall, 2.5/5 stars Train 3/5, fun experience, but not a necessary way to enjoy all Napa has to offer. The rail follows alongside the highway so views were not necessarily 'outstanding' because I was on the train. I do not need to ride this train to see these views. I did not have to drive, that brings the rating up, but there are MANY ways to not drive in Napa. It was a little rickety, but acceptable. The food, 2/5 stars, substandard for the cost. Portions were small (half a piece of bacon, 1 small egg for a Benedict, etc.) and taste was middle of the road. The service/staff 4/5. Most everyone was very hospitable and did their job well. However, it did feel as if we were 'just another group'. Everything is very script and not especially personalized. For example, I'm on a wine train and no one asked my wine preference. Which brings me to the wine we tasted on the train 1/5. I expected a higher quality of tastings. In addition, offer a choice of flight, white or red or a mix of both. Or, hear me out...offer wine pairings for each course (included with my ticket, not for extra cost). Stopping at the sign and enjoying the tasting in the open car was a wonderful choice, wine selection is greatly lacking and to be honest, a great disappointment. Overall, I enjoyed my time, but this was not necessarily due to being on the Napa train specifically, it was because I was on vacation in Napa. I could see the business cutting costs in almost every aspect and that is unfair because I am paying a premium cost of approx. $100/h. And for some of that time, I'm at the winery and not even on the train. Which brings me to the end of my rating, for the stops 2.9/5. The stops felt rushed, especially our first stop. They are about an hour each, but this includes disembark and reembark times. I wanted a little more time at each winery to make a purchase or walk the grounds. My bestie and I did the 3-hour tea ceremony experience ($660 for two), and it was such a fun time. The train is beautifully decorated with flowers, and you're immediately greeted with a cup of tea with several options to choose from. We really loved this option because we don't drink alcohol. You're served a set course menu alongside your tea while taking in the views and light history along the ride. It really delivered a one of a kind train experience I was hoping for. The tea service itself was great, and the staff were funny and welcoming, which made the experience even more enjoyable. Most of the tea snacks were delicious, though the deviled eggs and salmon tartare were a miss as they tasted overly fishy and not very fresh. We added the caviar experience for $180 and this was so worth it! The caviar is a wine train exclusive paired with various condiments like creme fraiche with thin and cripy potato chips. This was a great experience, my husband birthday surprise trip on the Napa wine Train and I was excited because all the great things I've heard before. All of the staff were very helpful and courteous. The salmon dinner was flavorful and delicious and so was the short rib. I was hoping there would be more than just a complementary glass of champagne that was included in the ticket, but we may do with the wine list that was available. I was a little disappointed with the map of views until we arrived in the area of the wineries which was nicer, but the other views from the train ride seem to be in popish areas with views of liquor stores and homeless people, but overall, it was a great experience. This is a wonderful and one-of-a-kind experience onboard a restored vintage train. The train cars are elegant with wood lined tables, etched glass partitions and velvet-plush seats in the lounge car. The staff are welcoming and friendly. We had assigned seats in the dining car, which had a glass of sparking wine already poured upon arrival. There is a Prix Fixe menu to choose a Starter, Entree and Dessert. We selected the Roasted Beet Salad, Salmon and Braised Short Rib meal with Chocolate Lava Cake for dessert. You can order additional glasses of wine during the meal for a separate charge. Amazing experience! Wife and I loved this experience we had an amazing time! The staff were very nice and helpful. The food was so good the short rib dish was a must have! The wine list was great and so was the beer menu. The train felt very cool sitting in your own booth and looked very old school! I love afternoon tea and having it on a train was such a delightful experience. We had reservations, so everything was a breeze when we checked in. There was a 360 photobooth and few photo ops as well as a souvenir shop you can check out while we waited to board. They announce when you need to line up and you also get a photo as a keepsake. The decor on the train is so pretty with lots of artificial flowers. The meal comes with seasonal greens salad and carrot ginger soup to start with. You can add caviar for an additional price of $149, but we did not LOL. The pastries were yummy and little savory bites were delicious and presented beautifully. The tea bites consisted of deviled eggs with salmon roe, cucumber chive, chicken salad, smoked salmon tartare on potato rosti, and lobster salad choux. For endings, we had honey pear mousse, peppered cheddar scone, champagne cupcake, and citrus mirliton cake. They even gave us a few extras! You can also take home what you don't finish. It still lives up. So I went on Napa Valley Wine Train for one of my first anniversaries with the missus. I thought for our 10 year anniversary we could try it out again and man am I glad its still worth it. Even though the time said arrival at 10:30, we arrived at 11am and that was still fine. I think they just wanna give you time to look around in the store nearby incase you are thinking you might want to buy an item or a wine. After you check in, shortly after they will car your letter and ask for you to board the train. It's all very similar to going on a typical airplane flight except it's more close to Southwest's style where the sooner you check in, the sooner you will most likely be boarding the train. I'm not sure if they start serving drinks the minute you get on but that could be a consideration on why you might wanna show up rather than later. Before you board they take a picture of you/group. So if you want to that particular picture just know you can do that once you arrive back from your trip. Once we arrived on the train they sat us and we ordered some drinks to start. I ordered a Locomotive Sangria and it was really tasty. I loved how despite it being a little lighter than most Sangria's I drink, it still had a really nice balance of flavors. For food I ordered the Seasonal Sangria. It ended up being a Pea Risotto. Again, this also was lighter than other Risotto's I had but I really enjoyed the earthiness of the dish. It was a fun change to the usual seafood or mushroom Risotto I'm so used to getting. Lastly we got a dessert wine to share and some sorbet for dessert. They put a candle in it to commemorate our anniversary. It was a really nice touch. The ride honestly goes faster than you think it will. It's really cool that we have such a nice experience that isn't too far from where we live. I really enjoyed just enjoying the occasional street art on the walls as we left and of course the views of the Napa County countryside. If you are looking for a 5 star experience while visiting Napa, look no further than the Napa Valley Eine Train. We booked the Legacy Tour for a special birthday celebration and it did not disappoint. It was expensive (around $500pp plus gratuity) but it was worth the experience. The ride/tour is scheduled from 10:00am until 4:30pm. From the time we entered the "train station" until boarding the staff was very friendly and helpful. There is a large gift shop with some excellent wine options for purchase as well as beautiful gifts, clothes and event wine luggage for travel, When you check in, you are given a lapel pin so while you visit the two wineries along the way. They know you are part of the tour group. Prior to boarding the train, there is a photographer who will take a complimentary digital photo snd/or you can purchase a physical photo/frame at the end of the day. We boarded in groups into the different train cars. We were spaced out and there are glass dividers between seat sections (from the Covid time era) so you really have your own space without it feeling too crowded. As we sat down, our hostess/server Alicia was very friendly and had a huge smile on her face. She was also our train car emcee throughout the entire trip with exception of Oscar, our matron de and wine tasting host. As the train left the station, we were served complimentary sparkling wine and breakfast. There was also a nice birthday card from Alicia waiting for me. There is a bar in the dining car so you can order/purchase any type of cocktail or wine in addition to the sparkling wine. You can provide any allergy information when you make reservations so they have that information ahead of time. The breakfast was salmon eggs Benedict with a side salad. It was a beautiful and delicious plate. After breakfast, the train stopped at the Napa Valley Welcome sign and we moved to the open air train car where Oscar started the wine tasting experience and you can take pictures. We were there for about an hour. We were served 4 different wines from a local vineyard while Oscar educated us on wine tasting and also entertained us. We moved back into the dining cars and were served lunch. There is a menu with lunch options including a truffle risotto, pork tenderloin, filet or salmon. I ordered the risotto, it was delicious and cooked perfectly. My husband ordered the pork tenderloin and said it was fantastic. Our friend ordered the salmon and said it was the best salmon she had ever eaten. As we headed towards the first winery. Alicia educated us on the various vineyards and towns we passed through. Our first stop was Charles Krug winery where we were provided a tour of the vineyard and a sit down wine tasting experience. Our second wine tasting was at V.Santui Winery and again, provided a sit down experience. I provided separate reviews for each of the wineries. I would have preferred different wineries for my wine tasting options as we enjoy more full bodied cabs, however, we hadn't been to either of these wineries for tastings and it was about the overall experience. When we boarded train, we were served a cheese course. This was probably my least favorite but it was a nice snack. We ended the dining experience with dessert. A choice of a warm chocolate lava cake or crème brûlée. Both were delicious. You can also order coffee. We were introduced to the chefs. I was impressed by these young chefs as every course was beautifully presented. The end if the tour concluded with an option the head to the open air car for music and dancing should you wish to do that. My husband gifted me the Chandon Afternoon Tea experience on the Napa Valley Wine Train for my birthday and it was everything I hoped for and more. We usually travel for my birthday, but since I'm still recovering from an ACL injury, we wanted something special that didn't require too much walking and this ended up being the perfect choice. It truly transported us into a different world, even a different time period. It felt so nice to dress up, sip on some spritz, and enjoy all the little afternoon tea delights while taking in the views. Jose was our speaker/host/server and he absolutely made the experience. At every stop he shared fun facts, stories, and little tidbits, keeping everything engaging, entertaining, and genuinely funny. He definitely had everyone's attention. Michell, who assisted with serving and preparing the dishes, was also wonderful. Both of them were incredibly attentive, thoughtful, and on top of everything. The entire experience felt unique, elevated, and really special. There were tons of photo opportunities, the service was exceptional, and the atmosphere felt luxurious in the best way. My friends had the brilliant idea to celebrate our birthdays on the Napa Valley Wine Train. And it was amazing! We got to the train station early for check-in and received a commemorative pin. There's also a cafe, a gift shop, and a photo-op where you can use your phone to take a 360 video. It was chaotic though because the arm was too long and it kept hitting a nearby Christmas tree on top of it going too fast lol. Our boarding number was called, but there was another photo op by their professional photographer before boarding the train. We found our car, which was the Secret Garden Express, and it was beautiful! It was lined with flowers and the furniture was a mix between mid-century and English Edwardian. And the music from possibly the Vitamin String Quartet gave it Bridgerton vibes. Our hosts, Jose and Michell, took good care of us. They went over our food allergies and gave us info about the wineries we passed by. Since this is a collab with Chandon, at our table was a glass of the Chandon Garden Spritz. It was a delicious and a wonderful way to start the ride. Between the savory and sweet courses, the standouts were the coronation chicken salad, the smoked salmon tartare atop a potato rosti, the lemon raspberry tart, and the tropical cheesecake. The coronation chicken salad was warmly spiced with curry and there was a pop of sweetness from the grapes. The potato rosti was satisfyingly crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. The smoked salmon tartare was full of salty and dill flavors. The tart had balanced flavors and it wasn't too sweet. And the pastry on the tart was baked well where it was crispy but then crumbly as you ate it. The tropical cheesecake was creamy and I liked the subtle sweetness from the fruit and the texture from the coconut. The teas were also very good. I started with Jose's favorite, which was a Chinese red tea I believe. It tasted like a black tea, but not as strong. And I had to get Earl Grey tea, which with milk was creamy and conforming. Then I moved onto the non-caffeinated teas, which were the roobois tea and the chamomile tea. We spent some time in the open air car and it was fun waving back at people in their cars. It was heartwarming to see all the smiles on their faces because honestly who doesn't love seeing a train? Let's talk about prices. The Napa Valley Wine Train has several packages, and I believe the afternoon tea is one of the packages on the lower end. At around $270 (which can change depending how close you buy before the date), it can cause a dent in your wallet, especially in this economy. But if you can save up for it, it'll be worth every penny. The service was above and beyond, and the food and drinks were stellar. I would love to do this again next year. read more

Booked the Vista Dome train excursion a month ago for a Friday lunch for my wife's birthday celebration. We got to the train station at 10:15 am (they recommended 1030 am) and got boarded by 10:50 am where they take a pic prior to boarding. Our seats were preset and the staff was friendly and cordial. What you book initially is for the 3 hour train ride and the set course menu that you can decide when there. They give complimentary champagne and bread but there are additional costs they will ask if you want a soda or wine or even a cheese platter ($25) before your meal. Now for $450 a ticket per person for the Vista Dome experience, I can't say paying over $1,000 for this was well spent. But seeing it's what my wife wanted to do, who am I to not give her what she wanted. Food was fair and presented nicely. I can't say the meals arrived hot. On occasion, one of the waiters would go on the intercom and say a little about the area we are seeing: But definitely not a tour of every area we were passing. Would i recommend this? It's hard to say since I don't recall the price being so high for a 3 hr train ride. $300 per person seems like a reasonable price but not to include a soda or one wine selection with your meal (you can add their wine recommendation depending on your order but at an additional cost) seems like price gouging. Would I do this again? The food... wow. Every course was beautifully plated and unbelievably delicious. You could tell the kitchen puts real thought into every detail -- from the flavors to the presentation. The dishes tasted just as incredible as they looked in the photos. Each course felt elevated and perfectly timed throughout the ride. A huge shoutout to Rick, our server, who truly made the experience special. His service was top-tier -- attentive, friendly, knowledgeable, and he had the perfect balance of professionalism and personality. He made sure every course came out smoothly, checked in at the right moments, and helped create such a relaxed and celebratory atmosphere for our anniversary. You can tell he genuinely cares about giving guests a great experience. The entire team onboard was fantastic. Everyone we interacted with had great energy, great vibes, and you could tell they take pride in making the experience memorable. We just got back, and I can't say enough about how much I enjoyed this special treat. The train has a beautiful vintage feel with old-style charm. The service from start to finish was excellent. During a recent trip to Napa for a family member's wedding, I had lunch on the Napa Valley Wine Train. This lunch was both incredible due to the views as well as the food. Having lunch via a train is an experience that I would do over and over again. I came on the train by myself so I was not able to experience the vista dome car, but the regular cars were great. I added the wine flight to my lunch and all wines were great and paired well with the food. Starting off with champagne just set the mood of the lunch. When I bought my ticket, I stated that I was gluten free. The wine train was able to accommodate my needs. I actually had some really great crackers instead of bread at the beginning of the trip. So much so that I'm hoping to buy them when I have a chance. One of the staff was able to provide me context on which of the main course meals I could eat and made suggestions based on the options. The staff member who helped me stated that the beef tenderloin option could be made gluten free by removing the fried onions. I went with this and it was awesome. The opening course, I went with prawns and oh were they good. For dessert, I had some of the best creme brulee that I have ever had. The lemon creme brulee is so tasty and refreshing. We're not disappointed with a long 3hrs journey inside the train. Very relaxing . Our trip has a full course of lunch meal from beginning to end of our trip. Our servers are very nice. This time, I upgraded to the Dome experience, which does cost more than the standard reservation, but the views and atmosphere made it completely worth it. Sitting in the dome car gave me a whole new appreciation for the scenery. It was absolutely beautiful. The staff were incredibly friendly, informative and welcoming from the moment we stepped on board. The service felt warm and genuine, which always makes the experience that much more enjoyable. Yesterday was my first time on the Napa wine train and it won't be my last. Our party of 9 people boarded the train for an afternoon ride up to St. Helena. We had a 3 course lunch and our server Andrea did a fantastic job! I ordered the asparagus soup as my starter, the beef tenderloin for my entree and the orange crème brûlée for dessert. I loved the asparagus soup. I requested the beef tenderloin to be cooked medium well but it was more on the medium side. The orange crème brûlée was fantastic. The bread served before and during our meal was warm and delicious. My mom needed assistance getting on and off the train and the service was great. All of the staff were friendly and helpful. We were the first to board since we needed more time for my mom which was nice. It was fun walking around the different cars and checking out this iconic train. We stopped for a little bit once we got to St. Helena before heading back to Napa. We purchased a bottle of bubbles at the gift shop which was more affordable in addition to the corkage fee. There are also drinks available on the train and you can also bring wine from home. All in all we had a fun and memorable day. read more

I booked the Legacy Tour for four people and paid over $2265.00, so I expected a premium experience - but unfortunately, the deliverables fell far short of the price. First, the wine pours were extremely small. Most stops were limited to tiny tasting pours, and it genuinely felt like they were scrimping. Aside from the welcome glass of champagne (the only full glass we received), everything else was minimal. Even basic refreshments on the train felt like an upsell - there wasn't even coffee offered with dessert unless you paid extra. The food was good, but not "$566+ per person" good. The steak was tough with noticeable grizzle, and overall the meal didn't match the luxury price point. I also expected more winery stops. Instead, you spend about six hours confined on the train, and we only stopped at two wineries. Both felt like controlled, presentation-style visits that dragged on, and the wine tastings were again very limited (only three small pours). Service was also hit-or-miss. Our waitress seemed overwhelmed and rushed, and the train host/MC had such a strong accent that we honestly couldn't understand much of what was being said - which took away from the overall experience. Overall, this tour was not worth the cost, and I wouldn't do it again unless it was free. read more

Napa Valley Wine Train is one of my life's bucket list experiences. The gourmet express lunch is a three-hour culinary journey from Napa to St. Helena. The weather was not perfect but we were fortunate enough to enjoy a breathtaking view of grape tree fields during our lunch. The train boasts a charming classic decor with elegant table settings. The lunch course consists of three delectable courses, accompanied by a complimentary glass of sparkling wine and coffee. Quality of food was okay. Our server's behavior was a bit rude. She started accusing us of not listening because we didn't understand English? We could clearly hear her, I don't know what was her problem. She kept asking if we were "sleepy"...? It was a bit off-putting, but we managed to ignore it and enjoy our journey through. Overall, we had a wonderful time on the Napa Valley Wine Train. read more

We did the express lunch option. I have to say, I was very impressed with our journey aboard the wine train. Parking was easy, everything was labeled well for entrances, it was lively once we entered the depot, the staff was friendly, the food was great, and it was a beautiful day. I wasn't expecting much, as I've heard it's a tourist thing to do. Well, we have elders that want to see Napa, but aren't big drinkers and have mobility issues. The train was perfect for them! There were ramps leading into the building and a lift to assist with getting into the train. I would recommend arriving early to the station. There is so much to do! They have a cute shop with lots of items to browse. There are also photo opportunities, wine tastings, and glasses of wine available for purchase. There are different trains arriving and departing. Listen closely for your experience and your boarding category. The staff is good about their directions. It was a smooth process. Once you leave the depot, you'll have your picture taken and board the train. Once aboard, we were greeted by a friendly staff. We had a birthday we were celebrating so we were all seated together. We all got a complimentary glass of champagne once we were seated. Menu options were placed at each of our seatings. I was impressed with the number of selections offered. I expected 3-4 main dish options. You get to choose one starter, one main, and one dessert. The starter options were seasonal soup (tomato soup, in our case), beet and goat cheese salad, and shrimp cocktail. I sampled the salad and soup. Both were delicious. The salad wasn't overly dressed and the soup was served hot. The shrimp cocktail was three large shrimp. For main dishes, I remember seasonal risotto (pea and truffles), ricotta gnocchi, short ribs, beef tenderloin, vegetable pasta, salmon, roasted chicken, and maybe one more seafood dish. We got the gnocchi and risotto. The gnocchi was slightly crispy on the outside, but oh so soft on the inside. They were like soft, fluffy pillows. The risotto was also great. It wasn't too heavy or seasoned. It was a nice light, fresh flavor profile. I heard other family members also liked their dish. The portions were of the right size. Along our journey, the staff pointed out wineries and areas we were passing. They also pointed out what each winery was known for. Our parents loved hearing the details. After our main course, we were asked to make our way to the lounge and dessert car. At first I was worried about our party walking on a moving train, but it worked out ok. Once in the dessert car, some of us got tables and others got cushioned swivel chairs. It was fun to mix up the seating because we were a large group. The dessert options were lava cake, earl grey crème brûlée, and a lemon tart with berry compote. Everything was great and tea and coffee were available with dessert. They also had other drinks available for purchase. It was an amazing day and our family thoroughly enjoyed themselves. We were still talking about it days later. Had a wonderful experience for our first train ride in the legacy experience celebrating our 10 year anniversary. For a special occasion they placed us in what i felt was the nicer part of the train, more secluded and upscale feeling. We didnt have anyone sitting to the left and behind us which was nice. We had Alicia and Oscar helping us and they were phenomenal. Alicia even arranged for us to face the other way on the way back which was such a special touch. Upon arrival they take professional pictures u can look at the end of the trip. When u enter the train ur greeted by ur attendants and ours were Alicia and Oscar. They show u ur seats and everything is set up so nicely with champagne bubbling. The train ride is so romantic and relaxing, more than i imagined it to be. I like how they told us about the murals and wineries we were passing by. Our first tasting was in the open air cart and it was very fun and nice experience! When we got back our main meal was ready for us. The black truffle risotto was so good! And the salmon dish was very good as well! We enjoyed our stops at Charles Keug and V Satturi wineries for tastings. The V Satturi was my favoriite and we bought 2 pinots from there Russian River valley. U can buy food and cheeses as well! The ride back was so nice with dessert and dancing with music in the open cart. U could suggest music for them to play! Overall the experience was much more romanic and relaxing than i thought it would be and appreciate Alicia and Oscar for helping to give such a special experience!! Def recommend!!! read more

The train itself is beautiful and it is easy to imagine that you are being transported into another century. Our server was very personable and she gave a brief overview of the wine region. The meal was hit or miss. The beet salad had hardly any beets and a tasteless dressing, the salmon and the beef short ribs were good but the high point of the meal was the Earl Grey creme brûlée. We ordered the wine flight since my daughter said how can we go on a wine train and not have wine. The Chardonnay, Merlot and Cab were under whelming for what they were. Unfortunately the rails are parallel to the highway so the view is not amazing. I was shocked by the add ons to the price including a $40 booking fee and $60 gratuity fee. Napa wineries are amazing but I think you can have a better tasting experience on your home. The lovely people who sat across and next to us made our experience joyful and a positive experience. Was on the tea time train with the hubs. Our servers Jose & Michelle were so kind, warm welcoming! Bugged him many times for more tea and was always met with Jose happily responsive and served gladly. He even gave tour guide input on some buildings we passed by. Our train had floral decor. The teas and food were delicious. In the beginning when we started moving it felt a bit rough and rocky, wasn't sure if I'd manage to drink my tea in peace without spilling, but it got smoother. Just need to be careful not to spill (didn't spill anything thank God) Only one dessert made us go mmmmm. The others weren't as good in our opinion, but I hope it is just our own opinion. When we booked our passage, I did not know that I would wind up ill just before our trip to Napa. During my illness, I lost my appetite and I was very afraid we were going to have to cancel this part of our trip. But I decided I was going to push through for my Best Beloved. When we arrived and boarded the train, we were seated. Our table had a cheese and fruit plate, and Casey, our server brought us water glasses and filled them and said he'd come back after we had time to look over the menu. Best Beloved had the short ribs, I had the chicken breast. I was only able to eat about half of my chicken breast, and a few bites of the fruit/cheese plate. The trip through Napa was very nice. The train car its self was very nicely decorated with glass partitions between each section going from front to back of each car. They also have what I think they called observatory cars. They really made a big deal out of it being our anniversary. read more

This is a hard one to rate. The service and food were good, but.... Went on the Napa Valley Wine Train as part of a weekend group experience. We met at the station around 5:30, but didn't leave until close to 6:30. The sun set shortly afterwards and then it was too dark to see any of the wineries or scenery. So this was basically a ride on a train on a dark night in October for a very expensive dinner. The train itself is quite beautiful. Love the open cars and huge windows which would provide beautiful views of the wineries if it was not dark for two of the 2.5 hours that we were on the train. I wish that someone would have directed us to an open car to at least watch the sunset as the views from our booth were not so good. The other issue was that it was 104 degrees that weekend in October. Brought a sweater, but we were sitting under an air vent and it was freezing! I needed a winter coat! The couple that we were sitting with in our cozy booth were also freezing. So it was not the most comfortable ride after sweating all day in the unseasonable October heat. Even though they tried to adjust the air, it never got less cold. Brrrrr. As far as the food, it was okay. The beet and goat cheese salad was good. The salmon was good. The pumpkin creme brûlée was okay. Surprised that on a wine train, the wine was not flowing. Passed on a complimentary glass of champagne. Needed hot tea to warm up instead. You could purchase glasses of wine if you asked. Since this was part of a group experience, I did not choose the time, but if I had, I would go earlier so that you could see what should have been scenic views and not the dark of night along the wine train route. read more
