By far, the best overall experience at a hotel. I travel for work more than 40% of the year. I'm in all the top tier loyalty programs. Frankly, a bit spoiled and particular. When I searched for a one night stopover on the Oregon coast with only a couple nights advanced notice that actually had availability for an ocean view balcony room- I stumbled on Hallmark Resort in Newport, OR. Thank goodness. Best welcome and customer service in a long time. Room was expertly cleaned. Welcome package was unexpected and thoughtful. The room was as advertised. The walk to beach was short. The sunset was stunning. But the BED! So comfortable - hit all the right attributes for me. I sat in the hot tub, perfect temp. Nearby restaurant was delicious. The parking was very close to the room and the town had much to explore. Never do all these occur in one location. Tremendous job, Hallmark. We absolutely love The Hallmark! We've stayed a few times and it's always fantastic. The rooms are so nice and I love the little touches, such as the mini window that you can keep open to listen to the waves crash and get a small breeze. The view from the balcony is gorgeous and I love to just sit out there and enjoy the ocean air. The beach is also super big and accessible. We usually end up staying in March, so the fireplace is always blazing. It's such a great place to have a little relaxing getaway. In addition, the staff are fantastic and I really appreciated all the COVID precautions. They were all masked and everything was taken care of quickly and efficiently. They are currently taking reservations for the pool, which they do an excellent job of managing. Since we were also taking a break from all the cooking and cleaning we had to do at home over the last year, we ordered a fair bit of room service. The food is good and it's so convenient to order and have it brought to your room. We really appreciated having the restaurant so close by. Overall, we love The Hallmark and will continue staying here at least once a year. read more

We stayed in a room on the first floor. We loved being able to walk out to the beach. The view was unparalleled. We went swimming and were the only ones in the pool. The pool was warm, which I loved! The room was clean, but I had no idea that pet friendly room meant it would smell so badly of dog. We were happy that the room had a fridge microwave and even a toaster. I would definitely return but not to a pet friendly room. read more

They don't take Visa gift cards!We had a 60th Wedding Anniversary and our kids gave us Visa Gift Cards and we planned on using them. I was told when we checked in that their system wouldn't accept them. When a person called after we were in our room to see if everything was okay she told me they don't accept them because the Gift Cards charged them or us extra. Wish we had known ahead of time. We have a small dog so rooms are limited. They put us on the 3rd floor of 4 floors and if you don't mind hearing people walking above you or the door slamming next door you are okay. Not a Resort in my view. We like inside halls not drive to the door motel like rooms. The closet door was missing a roller so you had to strain opening it by pushing up on the door and risking a pulled muscle. The wall paper in the bathroom was peeling. We paid over $450 for 2 nights in a mediocre smallish room for our 60th Wedding Anniversary Celebration. 50 bucks for room service 2 bowls of clam Chowder and 2 pieces of cheesecake which ran through us all night. Next time we will choose a real Resort. If we didn't have a dog and splurged for a fancy room and ate in the nice Restaurant it might be a better experience for others. They offer SO MANY awesome accommodations during COVID. The room was SPOTLESS, and clean! All of the staff was FRIENDLY and ACCOMMODATING! The Spa Tub was AMAZING! Room service (we didn't attend because we only stayed one night), but I believe there were takeout style and/or delivery options from Georgie's! (There's also I covered walkway to get over from the hotel). The view was beautiful. The rooms are non-smoking, but they offer a covered area in the parking lot for smokers. The gift shop is still open but it's regulated (one family at a time). You can schedule Pool time with the front desk staff! The thing that really stood out to me was the staff, even the night crew, they were all welcoming and positive! It really made the experience feel so much more connected with everything going on! While all the Hallmark Resort Hotel's we stayed in during our Oregon Coast trip were outstanding the Hallmark Resort Hotel in Newport, Oregon set the standard for room amenities, views and overall satisfaction. Once again it was apparent just how well trained the hotel staff are, especially the front desk staff. Their knowledge of the area and customer service was amazing, it's a large property by Oregon cost standards but you felt like they were your personal concierge. Newport, Oregon isn't Cannon Beach, Oregon and the restaurants were limited, so we thought we would try the restaurant associated with the hotel "Georgie's". It was an absolute disappointment, we appreciate that everyone is understaffed but the attitude we received the moment we walked in from the hostess was unbelievable, it was as if she expected us to be so grateful to be in her presence. Being polite is easy but clearly in in their job description, the food was average and not worth the aggravation. Aside from this one distraction our stay was exceptional, watching the sunset from our balcony was amazing, the beach is just below the hotel and spectacular to take an afternoons stroll on. Stay away from "Georgie's" but the staff, the views and the amazing rooms make Hallmark Resort Hotel in Newport, Oregon a must if you are going to tour the Oregon Coast. read more

These rooms are pricey but we thought our room was great. We were on the top floor so we had a great view up and down the beach. The room looked newly updated and all the furniture and appliances were in fine shape. The pillowtop bed suited my husband as well. The staff were great and helped us with directions on more than one occasion. The room isn't A/C'ed so we had to prop open the door every day to get some cross ventilation. We kept the slider open each night as well or the room got stuffy. Our biggest gripe was the WiFi. Depending on the number of people using it, it went from okay to just horrible. We had several moments where we held our phones up by the door in an effort to get some bars. Finally, it's worth noting that the hotel sits on a bluff and it's a good hike up and down to the beach. A first visit, we stayed here on a Thursday and Friday night (31OCT-1NOV, 2019) in a pet-friendly room, #328. This is a second level room of three levels. Front desk staff were dressed in costume for Halloween and were both friendly and efficient. A $100 incidental fee deposit is charged upon checkin but we were assured a refund when we checked out barring any issues (there weren't any). Plenty of parking availability this time of year so we pulled right up near a stairwell close to our room. Immediately upon walking into the room we were very pleasantly surprised! (Aside from the chemical odor but more on that later). A very updated and modernized space with appealing colors and decor. Cozy but hey it's just us and our lab so not a ton of space needed. (See attached pictures). Only downfall is no fireplace in this "traditional" room (that's what they call these rooms)... but we knew that when making the reservation and it wasn't a deal breaker. We LOVED the oceanfront view and the glass paned balcony (instead of spindles) to maximize the view! Balcony is moderately private (1/2 walls to neighbors on each side) but unless you (or your neighbor) is leaning over to check out the adjoining space, it's private enough... just keep your conversations down if you want to keep things to yourselves. We appreciated that had it been raining (it wasn't during our stay) you could close the patio door and they have a smaller window at the top that could stay open for fresh ocean air and of course ocean sound that would not let rain in. A nice little perk is the pet bag (there is a $20/night pet fee) that was left on the table that included a sheet, towel, water bottle that had an attachment that could be used for dog water bowl, frisbee, poop bag, and doggie treats inside a reusable Hallmark Resorts tote bag (like you use at the grocery store). All yours to keep and take home except the sheet and towel. The sheet is to lay across the bed if you let your pup get on the bed (we do not but the option was there so dog hair stays off the bed linens). A mini fridge, microwave (with a bag of Orville redenbacher microwave popcorn), keurig maker plus the kcups to make a couple of reg or decaf coffees (sugar, several creamers too), two glasses, two coffee mugs, DVD player (you can check out up to 2 DVDs at a time from their gift shop free of charge), and pretty good-sized flat screen TV are all in this room. Comfortable bed. Shower that pumps out hot water and with good pressure -- both have been issues for us at other hotels. You know, when it's been obvious that a billion people have slept on it and almost seems a bit gross? Not the case here. A tasty on-site restaurant, Georgies, also had lovely views. Food was good but temperature was kinda cold. DELICIOUS comp sourdough bread though! I inhaled virtually the entire loaf. The biggest drawbacks: 1) the noisy mini fridge which impeded the enjoyment of the ocean sounds. After the first day, I couldn't figure out what was making that annoying sound (wall heater or ??). Not so much a big deal when you're awake or with the patio door open but at night or with only that tiny window open it was far more noticeable. We later guessed that was probably why it was unplugged upon arrival which also took a while to get cold so we could actually use it. 2) the chemical smell mentioned earlier. We learned the resort was refinishing bathtubs all over the property and was it POTENT!! Glad we brought a scented candle to help offset the smell but it was almost nauseating. All-in-all though we will still be able to happily recommend this property to others and come back ourselves for another stay. :D read more

Right at the beach, practically on the sand. Every room has a beach view. I have stayed here several times and I always pick a top floor to see the best view and to have less noise from potential upstairs neighbors. The rooms are good, the sliding doors to the patio/balcony always work and with the gas fireplace on it can get quite cozy. My choice for a hotel in Newport for sure. They have good deals for Sunday thru Thursday night on their website. My only gripe this time was that the front desk person was rather rude and short to me. read more

Regardless of the cost of the hotel room, we expect cleanliness. The room was advertised as having 2 queen beds, I think they were closer to full. What a great place to stay! Honestly the only reason I am not giving 5 stars is due to the jetted tub. With the contouring in it, it was very slippery and hard to get out of (yes, I'm an older lady lol). But the views were great, service top notch and access to the beach a breeze! Georgie's was also very good! We spent 2 nights there on our trip up the Oregon Coast and I can honestly say it's the only place we said we'd return to. read more

Usually when I stay in Newport I like to stay at the Inn at Nye Beach or the Whaler. For something a little different, my girlfriend and I decided to give the Hallmark a shot this past week. The room rates were very reasonable and on par with the Whaler (only about 10% higher). The reception/check-in is nicely put together and there were 3 people available to get checked in and out. I like when there is no wait. Our room was on the ground floor and did have an ocean view. The room is very standard with a single bed, a desk that nobody uses, a small table with chairs, and on the porch were two Adirondack chairs to sit in. Sitting outside to look at the ocean would have been neat, but being that we were on the ground floor and walking out of the sliding glass door led to a grassy area, it meant that other people were likewise outside. They walked around the grassy area, right in front of our room and stopped there to chat for a while. Upstairs areas have balconies but at least they are partitioned off so other people can't just walk up to your sliding door if they wanted to. I am not sure how that could really be fixed without extending the patio areas all the way to the cliff/end of the grass. Hallmark could do that and have a small firepit and make a fortune on those rooms, especially since the ocean view isn't nearly as good that low to the ground. The bathroom area was basic, but functional and the bed was reasonably comfy. They use 4 tiny pillows, though. Just enough for your head. If you are like me and raise your hand and put it under your pillow when you sleep on your back, you won't really be able to. The pillows are too tiny. We didn't try it, but there is an indoor pool and hot tub across from the check in area. There is even a spot to pull in to that has windshield wiping items like a squeegee, so you can clean it all off before you go. I would have tried it out, but the water looked gross and there were no towels/paper to wipe away the excess water. The best part of the Hallmark is that it is so close to Georgie's, which is where we had dinner. It was just a short walk and only a 45 minute wait to be seated. They even offer room service, but I didn't want to know how expensive that was going to be, so we didn't opt for that option. Overall, the Hallmark is a good place. The rooms are basic, but functional. The price is reasonable. It is close to the beach, has an ocean view, and is also right next to Georgie's. I still prefer the Whaler, but I would consider the Hallmark as a solid option to stay when I am in Newport again. read more

With the word "resort" in your name, we expected luxury, glamour, and pampering. We opted for the Classic Pet Two Bedroom 1King & 2Doubles Patio (which was almost $800 for two nights!!). We thought this would be a great girls' weekend with our dogs. What we got were SEVERAL problems. 1. Small, cramped rooms with no space to walk, narrow doorways, and barely room to put our luggage down. 2. Back screen door broke off when we tried to open it. 3. Coffee maker shorted the electricity. 4. I found a strange, red, wet object in my bed!!! 5. Bathroom shelf and tissue box completely sticky. 6. Coffee bar area was sticky on table and floor area. 7. Squashed bug/moth in curtain tracks on ceiling. 8. Reddish spot on floor that looked like blood in the grout. Especially with COVID concerns and the extravagant price of the stay, we expected a spotless room but were completely disgusted by its condition. We did call housekeeping about the disgusting state of the room the first night, and they came right away to clean it up. But, by then, I was disgusted and ready to leave. Since it was 11:30 at night, we decided to suck it up and leave in the morning. After speaking with the manager, Ariel, we were upgraded to better rooms and returned the fee for the first night. However, that first night was terrible and something I will never forget. For the price we paid, we expected a lot more. It really put a damper on our trip and made us feel that we lost a day. To be fair: every one of the staff was extremely helpful and nice to us. We really appreciated that. That and the dog-friendliness are the only reasons why I MIGHT recommend this hotel. read more

I stayed here with my husband for our 22nd anniversary and the room was not what we expected. It had severe damage to the front door and the lock on the door. I did a review on Hotels.com that was not good and the very next day I got a call from management apologizing. They wanted us to try them again and are sending me a certificate for a free nights stay. I wanted to leave a great review for them because I was very impressed that the management reached out to me to make this a better experience for us. Things happen but when a business reaches out to make things better it really shows that they care about your experience with them. We had a really lovely stay at the hotel. The rooms were very clean, the bed was very comfortable, and you could not beat that balcony and ocean view. We had our dog with us and they even provided a gift bag complete with a frisbee and water bottle for him. Everyone was very nice and the restaurant next to the hotel, Georgie's, had excellent food that you could order straight to your room. There was direct access to the beach, a pet area, and a nice gift shop. A few things to note about covid measures: all staff wore masks, there were markers to encourage social distancing, and there was curbside check-in available. The prior reviewer talked about rooms not getting cleaned everyday - that is true, the rooms only get cleaned after each stay to protect the health of visitors and staff and was clearly outlined in the welcome packet. We just asked the front desk for extra towels and coffee as needed and it was quickly provided! We will be back for sure. read more

Right on the beach. All the rooms have oceanfront views. Pet friendly. Kid friendly. Super friendly staff. Conveniently located near a beautiful expanse of wide-open beach. What more could you want. We stayed for four nights with our 8-year old daughter and our 2-year old standard poodle. Daily walks on the beach punctuated by wine sipping with friends on the balcony - made for a fantastic extended weekend. Our room was on the ground floor - which made it very easy to take the dog for walks and afforded quick out-and-back bathroom breaks. A word about the hotel: This is the perfect family vacation hotel. it is clean. The rooms are well laid out for family activities. The restaurant offerings in, and conjoined, to the hotel are very decent. It is, however, not a luxury hotel. If you're looking for a weekend at the coast at a higher end property - you are better off going to another location. That's not to say Hallmark isn't a great place - it is, but its not a high end, luxury boutique beachside hotel or inn. It is a super great place for kids, pets and fun times on the beach. We recently stayed at this hotel and were very disappointed in our stay. Beware of the pet friendly rooms because they smell like animals and the smell does not go away. The pillows even smelled bad. We asked to be switched to a room that doesn't allow pets, but they said those rooms were all booked up. They also list their room as having Queen sized beds, but they are clearly Full sized. Rooms are also very outdated in need of a remodel. Carpet is nasty, but bathroom is a bit newer feeling. Spent over 300 a night and was given a ground floor with a double bed. Marketed as a queen. I have a small dog traveling so I'm assuming you automatically get a more "tired" room. I heard neighbors adjacent and above the whole time. Room was cleaned with strong cleaners and had to sleep with the slider closed. It may have stated that all pet rooms are ground floor and they don't have fireplaces, but I don't believe it was. Overall, over priced for a basic room with noise. The staff is so nice, the room is clean, the view can't be beat, they're extremely dog friendly, they're right on the beach, and the onsite food is top notch! When we arrived, there was a gift bag waiting for our dog which included, a pet sheet, an extra towel, a frisbee, a water bottle/bowl, and some dog treats! Such a sweet gesture for the dogs. The room was immaculate. The bed was super comfortable. We had a patio during our stay and it was so nice. Our dog just hung out with us out there and strangers didn't mind him walking up to say hi. We stopped here from California on our way up to Washington. we enjoyed our stay so much that we decided to stop there again on our way back home. Such a great hotel. Overall, it was a decent hotel. We had the room with the loft. The ocean view was perfect. The room smelt alittle funny. Definitely needs some updates. The sofa looked stained and there were some stains on the walls. The mini fridge wasn't working but maintenance came right away and replaced it. The staff was great and very friendly. The sky bridge to the pool was closed so walking across the parking lot with 2 kids, soaking wet, in the rain wasn't ideal.We ate at Georgie's for breakfast and it was delicious! Probably some of the best pancakes I have ever had. It was a fine hotel with kids. Probably not a place I would pick if it was just me and my husband. read more

I've stayed here twice now, and enjoyed it both times. The first time I came by myself, and the second time I came with my hubby and dog. They do a really nice welcome basket for dogs, and have foot/paw wash stations, frisbees, treats, and a water bottle for them! The beds are comfortable, and the rooms are very clean. We started in one of the smaller queen rooms, but were able to move to a larger room with 2 queens, a couch, fireplace and a kitchenette! HIGHLY recommend those rooms, if you can get one. The only bummer was the facilities were all closed (pool, spa, etc.) for COVID, but we spent all our time on the beach instead. Staff was friendly and responsive. I chose this hotel due in part to the other reviews here on Yelp. I was not disappointed. My room was ready on time and was in perfect order. The staff was friendly despite being busy with check-ins. The room was as advertised. A beautiful ocean view right from my balcony. If I had to find something negative about my stay it would be that the room was not equipped with any USB ports to charge my electronic devices. I had only on plug for a standard outlet, so it made recharging cameras and phones a longer process than needed. But this is a minor issue compared to the room and stay overall. read more

Sadly this wasn't a favorite time here. The "high speed Internet" advertised was no speed. A pre planned mandatory Zoom meeting had to be done via phone. Embarrassing to say the least as my husband assured his fellow participants, he'd be there visually. We've stayed here many times in the past, and never experienced this. Two calls down to the front got us "we will have maintenance reboot." At checkout, I was told "there is no decent internet in Newport." We of course will be back, but will need a different part of the hotel where we've stayed before where we've had good luck with Internet. AMAZING!! I stayed in the Admiral Suite. It had a private balcony and amazing ocean views. I slept with the balcony door open and listened to the waves crash against the shore all night. I also saw little bats flying above the patio at night. The hotel offers a complimentary dvd checkout near the front desk. The room includes a kitchenette with a stove, fridge, sink and keurig with coffee K-cups. Room service was perfect. The food from Georgi's was very tasty. You can walk to the restaurant or have room service delivered. The staff was professional, friendly and very helpful. Tiffany was amazing! She was soo nice and professional. We had a fantastic stay at Hallmark and will most definitely return! Staff was on point, housekeeping was so sweet and even called after we left to tell me I left some items behind and they offered to ship them but my friend lives in town so, didn't even need that but, so sweet to offer! The bed was SO cozy and cushy -- we had to bust out the additional blanket though, as it gets pretty cold in this neck of the woods. There was a mug in the room that said F UCK and we thought that was a hoot! I have no idea if it was from the room or someone left it but, you're speakin my language!
