Let's start with the view--because let's be honest, that's the real draw here. It's absolutely stunning: peaceful, tranquil, and truly unmatched in the area. Location-wise, it's conveniently nestled between Depoe Bay and Newport, making it a great base for exploring the Oregon coast. Day trips and sightseeing are easy from here. We stayed in a first-floor room. While every room likely offers lovely views, privacy was a bit of a challenge. We had looked forward to visiting this hotel for nearly a decade, especially for the spa on the balcony overlooking the cove--but we weren't comfortable using it due to direct visibility from the restaurant. The patio furniture was also quite firm, which made it tough to enjoy long stretches on the balcony--even with that incredible view. Inside the room, the layout and size were excellent. We appreciated the extra space to stretch out, and the oversized shower and double sinks were a plus. Our room appeared to include accessibility features, which may explain why the toilet area lacked a door despite the generous bathroom space. That said, there were a few areas where the room showed its age. The carpet had visibly shrunk around the edges, and the furniture felt a bit dated. Climate control was also an issue--there's no way to adjust the temperature beyond opening the door. This led to a bit of a tug-of-war between too hot and too cold, which definitely affected our sleep. Unfortunately, the coffee maker didn't work properly, and since there's no staff available after hours, there wasn't a way to get a replacement. The pillows weren't our favorite, though the bed itself was very comfortable. Overall, if you're planning a visit, the view is well worth it. Just go in with realistic expectations about some of the amenities and comfort features. read more

This is our third stay at The Whale Cove Inn. It is one of the most expensive hotels on the Oregon Coast. For the price, you go here for a special occasion. You expect everything to be looking the finest in best condition which has up until we returned this year for our stay. I cannot review all the rooms, but our room had stains in the carpet, the carpet was torn, and gaps where it didn't connect to the wall where you could see the sub floor. Maybe the ownership has changed as I have always highly recommended this establishment. We will probably not return as it is not a special clean suite as we had before. The management has lost our trust. We will try to find another hotel for our next anniversary. It was a good run, great location! read more

Location gets a 5 star from me- I THOROUGHLY enjoyed the tranquil view and sounds of the ocean from our suite. The weather was a chilly winter 40, so the thought of using the on-deck jacuzzi was out lol but oh the luxury. Instead we had fun with the en-suite, 5 spout shower! The room was plush with some thoughtful touches such as binoculars, bath salts and large floor to ceiling windows to really enjoy the scenery. It Felt very secluded and was a wonderful getaway. We reserved the 3 bedroom suite but because it was only two of us, they locked the other 2 rooms, which I thought was odd. I mean, we paid for it. Felt like we were the only patrons of the hotel until dinner. Restaurant Beck was open for indoor dining and what a treat. Simple menu, simple farm to table and very good food. read more

We first stayed here back in 2009, that day was a drive by vacancy sighting on a busy weekend and thought we'd see what this place was all about and learn why there was a vacancy, well it is expensive for the Oregon Coast so guessing people kept looking for a deal. We toured a room and the hook was set. Well, after sticker shock and a few hundreds of dollars, we had a fantastic weekend Inn experience and a meal that was amazing. We were blown away how a 6 room Inn could be so satisfying. Since that stay, we've stayed here many times including an event where we rented all the rooms for a weekend, it has always felt like family even if they don't remember us. Service and attention to detail are simply second to none at our coast. Reservations: Easy and super nice to communicate our concerns with covid. Not sure it is kid or pet friendly, best to check first. I don't think they offer deals or specials, but I am sure you can find out online. Location: It really does not get much better than this. No beach access but it is close if you want to get all sandy. Rooms: Pretty amazing but showing some signs of wear since our first stay 12 years ago. They have been well kept and were quality to begin with so wearing pretty well. Our sliding glass door and screen needed some help but no big deal. Seldom do you see another guest, very quiet except for the ocean waves. Views: You'll see. Pour a cocktail and get in the warm bathtub on your deck overlooking the Whale Cove. Yes, bathtub with jets of course. Food: well covid has temporally closed breakfast but they credited us, not their fault and many options all around. We brought our yeti so we were all good for breakfast. Restaurant Beck: Not connected ownership to the Inn. Make a reservation but please dine here. Last night we had another incredible dinner, not easy to pull off at the coast during covid. Wait staff was awesome, we were alone for most of our meal, she was very knowledgeable and entertaining. Value: hard to say this is a value unless you are looking to fill up your life experiences bucket. If you are fortunate enough to save up some dollars or able to justify a stay here, you should. Whale Cove Inn was my first luxury boutique hotel experience and wow was I absolutely blown away!! I unfortunately only had 2 nights in this hotel, I wish it were way more! My visit was in October of 2019 before the pandemic, but we were immediately greeted by the man at the front desk and he was so kind, showed us around the hotel and gave us all the information we needed. Our room was HUGE, on the top floor with an incredible view of whale cove. The deck was large, the outdoor tub was amazing, the shower in the bathroom was also huge. They also provide binoculars in the room which is a great touch, and we used them daily to see some of the whales in whale cove. This place was an absolute dream getaway, and there are tons of places nearby to pull over and explore Oregon's beautiful coastline. I can't wait until I can go back with my camera and take great quality photos of the hotel and the area...photography is a passion of mine and Depoe Bay is the PERFECT place to photograph the coast. This is our first stay at the Whale Cove Inn...we passed it on our previous trip to the coast and decided to treat ourselves since it was our anniversary. The rooms are spacious and a bit dated IMO, they could use a furniture upgrade, and need to make time for some apparent delayed maintenance. Additionally, some of the finish work is rather cheap (tiles on deck are pretty Home Depot and bonus....extremely slippery when wet...not a good choice for a place with a soaking tub); when you command these type of nightly prices, expect to be scrutinized. Appreciate the wet bar and of course, the bathroom is lovely and so huge. They even have a yoga mat if you forget yours and left some chocolates for us; binoculars were a nice touch. Small container of salts were provided for tub. Tech updates are needed....there was one place to charge your cellphone without a full plug-in and there were plenty of landline plug-ins...but uses those anymore with their laptops? Also...the wi-fi is pretty weak. The lobby was nice, but I would recommend they either replace the silk flowers and ferns, or get rid of them and get some real plants....it really lowers the perceived value IMO. We stayed in 203; the view from any of the suites is amazing....truly a delight for the eyes. It is true you cannot see any other person while you are on your deck....except of course, if you are in 203 and anyone in the restaurant who wants to walk out to take photos in front of the sunset is going to be keeping you company; so much for isolation and contemplation. I think the problem could have been solved if they simply would have put the tub on the opposite side of the deck. Anyway....yes it is nice....is it $500 a night nice? That's a tough one. The view alone is a million dollars and the service we received was thoughtful and friendly. If it's an experience and a view you crave, I'd say go for it....but don't compare it to other 5 star luxury hotels because you may be left wanting. read more

This was our second stay at Whale Cove, the last being 11 years ago. We made it a point to drive up here from Truckee, CA because of the great experience we had previously. Stayed 2 nights and had dinner at Beck one night. We were not disappointed. Walked into our suite and it was brightly lit with instrumental music on the TV's. Views were spectacular from our room as a major storm was in progress. The entire coast lost power while we were out the first night so the Inn was also blacked out. The manager was waiting for us outside in her car when we returned and got out in the pouring rain to escort us back into the Inn. They provide battery lanterns in the suites that allowed us to get around in the dark. Great dinner and service at Beck with views of the Ocean. The rooms were clean and extremely comfortable and the bathroom had 2 sinks and a large walk-in shower. They don't serve breakfast any more but we only had to drive 5 minutes to Depoe Bay downtown for several options for a full breakfast (really liked the Sea Hag restaurant). read more

I'd give this 0 stars if it were possible. I tried to take my wife here for her birthday and be all fancy for a couple of days. This was during the phase 2 reopening of the COVID-19 pandemic, so they were taking safety precautions. On the website, they said they were cleaning better and access to the lobby was restricted. Ok, fair enough, right? I emailed ahead to ask if I could check in early. They said sure come at 2 (check in is at 4) and we'll see what we can do. We got there at 3 and the lobby door is locked. The front desk guy comes over and says "you can't be here". Pandemic or not, that's about the worst way to treat a guest at a fancy ass hotel. Then I told the guy about the email and he went and printed it out to show me ... the exact same email. He said look, we only said we'd try to get you a room at 2, we didn't guarantee it. Awesome dude, I already read that. What are you doing. We asked if we could hang out in the lobby so we could FaceTime some of her family. No. The lobby isn't restricted, it's a ghost town. Nobody is allowed there at any time for any reason except for checking in/out. Also, I rented a Tesla for the weekend bc my wife wanted to try it. Part of why I wanted to go here was the charger. That was broken too. Dude didn't even say sorry about that. He said it's no big deal, there's plenty of other chargers nearby. Yea dude, I get it but you didn't tell me before we got there and then you weren't even nice about it when you told me. So all you can do here is go to dinner (if you have a reservation) and then go to your room. If you try to go to the lobby or whatever, you get a lecture from the front desk puppet. Our experience was 100% shitty from the minute we got there with the sad, lonely man at the counter. The pandemic doesn't stop you from being nice dude. Maybe even letting 2 people hang out in the empty lobby alone for an hour or two (GASP). Only good thing was they gave me a full refund when I asked for it. I think the manager knew the sad man fucked up. This place is a HARD pass. It's crazy expensive and they should be way better on their amenities and customer service game. All in all, this place just shouldn't be open until they can get some nicer people and figure out how to make it a nicer experience to stay there. What an excellent hotel. We added this stop to our road trip at the last minute and I am so glad we did. Everything about our stay was exceedingly excellent!! Detail after detail after detail blew us away! The hot tub on the patio is a killer addition that you won't find everywhere. The sea salt soak they provide is just one of the many details that will make your stay comfortable and relaxing. The linens were of great quality, the hotel room is outfitted with grand fixtures and finishes, more like a private home than a hotel. The view is fabulous. The pictures don't do it justice. That's really all you can say. Until you go into the hotel and really view it properly, you won't understand. It doesn't seem real. The restaurant on property was great. We are two picky eaters but we branched out and we were richly rewarded. The food and service were both on par for the price. The complimentary breakfast is well worth it and I highly recommend it. The pastries are so delicious and the quiche is great too. I don't mind saying I had seconds and wish I could have had 3rds. We felt absolutely pampered and so well cared for by the staff. We were always greeted with a smile. Incredibly friendly and warm people work here. We had convos with kitchen staff, night and morning desk staff, breakfast attendant and each one just seemed so happy to be there, and happy to assist guests. I think that was probably my favorite thing about our stay. It made us wish we had more time to stay at this place. read more

We expected high level hospitality when we reserved the "premium suite, " with three bedrooms and two baths. Imagine our surprise when two bedrooms and one bath were locked. Naturally, we protested. We had paid for the whole suite, not one third of it. The desk clerk had obviously not gone to hospitality school, because he was unyielding and - worse - argumentative. We were able to get him to unlock one bedroom and one bath, leaving OUR third bedroom inaccesible. As a lawyer, I viewed this situation as an unlawful trade practice under Oregon's law. As a guest I viewed the experience as damaging to the enjoyment of our high-priced getaway. I will never return here. I will tell all my friends about this experience. And I'm thinking seriously about filing an unlawful trade practices lawsuit against these presumptuous, arrogant defrauders. read more

Been wanting to try Becks for several years...finally made it and I can't believe I have been missing out on this little gem all this time. The dinning room overlooks a private little cove, where we were told orcas can be found swimming around dusk. First you enter through the Hotels lovely lobby where you are greeted with a view of the bay through a wall of windows, a waterfall wall and fireplace. The wait staff were very nice...you know friendly and helpful without being intrusive...but the jewel is definitely the chef and his delightful creations. He sources local ingredients and forges for unique bites that compliment every dish. I had the pork belly appetizer, the halibut with roasted artichokes and an amazing berry cream brûlée. A delicious meal, enjoyed with friends in a beautiful location. Oh and let's not forget the good wine selection! What a delightful evening ... will definitely return the next time I am in the area! read more

If your plans bring you anywhere near this area, you will want to spend a night at the WCI. The rooms are the most modern I've ever seen and the location is set right atop Whale Cove, with stunning views of the cove and Pacific. There is a beautiful lobby with a mosaic tiled waterfall and floor to ceiling windows so that you can take it all in. The staff at the inn was very welcoming and they did anything they could to make our stay great. Breakfast was served in the morning at the lobby restaurant, so head downstairs for that. The first thing we noticed as we walked in was the view. How gorgeous is the Oregon Coast? We had a full length deck that even had a jacuzzi! Our suite was on the top floor and had skylights all around. The design was really cool and hip. They've got great taste and nothing was overlooked. We had a fridge and wet bar with granite counter tops. The lounge had plenty of room and a breakfast table off to the side. Big plasma tvs with dvd and Direct TV. All the better, because it was go time at the 2010WC and there were some big games on. The bathroom was huge and had a double vanity and a nice caramel colored counter top. The shower was as big as a closet, or the rooms you typically get in NYC. It was one of those Groehe numbers with the multiple showerheads. Cool tilework all through the bath too. The bed was comfy and we were able to open the doors and fall asleep to the surf. Awesome touches all throughout. The kind of things that you wish you had the design sense or budget to do. They've got it all covered. Also be sure to hit Restaurant Beck one night for dinner, it was great. WCI takes it to another level. read more

Proposed to my girlfriend here at the end of a 4 day drive up the Pacific Coast Highway. Absolutely loved it. Truly feels like a boutique, unique and special location. You are treated to absolutely stunning views of the cove - the only downside was that it rained the entire time, so we didn't really get to experience the best of it. The hot tub on the balcony would have been wonderful to stay out in all night. That said, it's fantastically moody when the weather is grey and rainy. Superb service and they were able to facilitate my request to have the room with 'the best view' for the proposal. The only thing I would say is that there is no room service, and no front desk service after 7pm so bring anything (read: alcohol) you need with you. The Whale Cove Inn may be the best hotel to stay on the West Coast. Yes, really. The rooms are suites but extra large..I felt as if I were in a luxury home. Room to spread out and enjoy the spectacular views. Amenities are many and luxurious. Suites have a hot tub on the balcony to enjoy private bath and enjoy the champagne! No detail is spared. Views are simply spectacular. Breakfast was excellent. Our servers were very attentive and ensured we had what we wanted. Let me start off by saying this isn't a review for the stay itself but it's coming from someone who desperately needs his Tesla car charged. My battery was running dry and I couldn't make it to the next supercharger in time so I had to detour here for some charging. The front desk informed me that the destination charger is faulty but was still willing to assist me with finding an outdoor outlet for some mobile charging. I haven't stayed here yet... I might in the future. But first impression was amazing view.. But not impressed by the front desk dude. Super rude.. Super uptight.. We stopped in just to see what it was all about in person and the guy seemed caught off guard. Not friendly at all. He honestly had a broom up his a$$. Made it s point that this is not a place for children or pets. (Yeah we already know we weren't asking you that.. nor did we have any with us.) lol. He was so uptight like one of those rude posh types that he made you feel like you shouldn't come inside to ask anything or be in the lobby unless your there to check in or check out.... and after reading reviews I guess that's how you feel when you stay there as well. Nobody should be in the lobby for any reason apparently... Even tho that's what a lobby is for.. lol. He turned people away for wanting to look at the view and it seemed like if he did allow us to (Which ultimately he did) it was like an inconvenience... I get it you have a job to do and that would be annoying stopping to allow people to come into the lobby just to ponder.. But again isn't that what a lobby is for??! lol. Someone asked him if they could take a picture out the lobby window at the ocean.. and he was like no that's not allowed... Okay so if you spend 600$ for 1 night on this place or $1200 for a weekend you can't take a picture in the lobby? That's ridiculous. Who is it hurting for you to be friendly and welcoming and allow people to take a photo? Just seemed like an uptight &^%&*^ gave me a bad taste in my mouth so I wanted to leave lol. Honestly.. I spent a weekend at this beautiful inn. I shall be brief, as I could write a novel about this place. The rooms are spacious, comfortable, with every detail attended to. That even placed binoculars in the room for whale watching. The shower and the bed were luxurious. By the end of the weekend, I was so relaxed, it was wonderful. This is the finest hotel on the Oregon coast. There are no photographs that could do justice to the view from the balcony. I don't think that it would be possible to get any closer to the booming surf without the hotel falling in. The view is of a federally protected wildlife cove, with its own pod of resident whales. Orcas sometimes come in and feed on the seals, playing out the whole drama of nature in full view of the comfort of your Jacuzzi. No expense was spared to create an atmosphere of unmatched luxury. The shower is so large and puts out so much water that it all but audibly invites you to drag a deck chair into it and enjoy a bucket full of beer in a large tiled room that has been transformed into a tropical rain forest. If your idea of comfort is to fall asleep immersed to your neck in 90 degree water with a 55 degree mist on your face while you listen to the roar of waves crashing four stories high, then this is the place you must come. There is (or was) another yelp review that describes this hotel very differently. That review describes the old "whale cove inn." That hotel was demolished to make way for this one, and comparing the two is like comparing Denny's to ElBulli. I flagged that other review, but unless and until they take it down, I advise readers to disregard it and its low rating. I'm not going to pay several hundred dollars a night for the privilege of drinking root beer "from a boot," to quote the other review, and I doubt anyone else would either. read more

I'm not sure why the Whale Cove Inn doesn't have hundreds of five star reviews- it is literally heaven on earth. My husband and I just stayed a few nights for our honeymoon and checking out was just about one of the hardest things, EVER. The staff are SO friendly... right away, we felt "at home". That's something we haven't gotten from other stays at even the most extremely nice hotels in the past. The room was absolutely perfect. There is just so much detail and thought put into everything. I won't spoil all the fun details, but we constantly were saying, "oh look, they even have that! Oh, did you see that! Wow, they even gave us that!". The view is undoubtably spectacular- I don't have to tell you that. It definitely felt private- I never had a concern about being visible to others while in the private balcony tub. The bed.... my husband and I laugh about the staff putting something like fairy dust in their detergent because when we laid down for the night... we were OUT. Like, the best sleep we have EVER gotten. Did I mention the shower... yeah, we'd go back just for that too. Naturally, we only left the room to dine at Restaurant Beck, which was also perfect. This stay truly made our honeymoon, feel like a honeymoon. Oh, like I don't already have enough great things to say- I even left a bracelet and was called within an hour- they were nice enough to ship it back to me right away since we were already on our way back to Sacramento! I stayed here with my family to celebrate my Dad's birthday. Beautiful views, modern amenities, everything about this place was great. They have a high-end restaurant inside (Restaurant Beck) which was fantastic as well. I'd highly recommend. Only possible thing I might marginally mark down: breakfast. A couple of minor nuisances.... they had a shoji screen which blocked out the main area to get the food, which made getting to it a pain if anyone else is in your way (i.e. they artificially created a bottle neck out of the space). And our breakfast hostess was a little too friendly in a down-home, country kind of way. The rest of my hotel stay was high-end and elegant, so that didn't fit it. And sometimes when we're eating breakfast, we want to be left alone vs. discussing the weather, etc. But: I won't let that take away from a great overall hotel experience! read more

We were celebrating our anniversary weekend and had just previously stayed at the Stephanie in where the five-star experience matches the price. This was definitely not a five-star experience, we were very disappointed yes they have an absolutely beautiful view from a beautiful room but that's it. They offer no additional customer service such as Bellman, Valet, room service, etc. In fact there is no one at the front desk after 7 PM and you are somewhat locked into the restaurant if you want to enjoy any libations. This place is not worth the price and I would not recommend it. read more

The room was great, especially the balcony area. It was relaxing to sit out on the chairs and in the jetted tub listening to the waves and watching the ocean and whales. Breakfast was also awesome and I've now developed a love for coconut chia seed pudding. What was probably the best thing was the customer service we got; we're beginners at rock hounding and Mary at the front desk told us about the agates in the area. We didn't know what agates were, picked up a bunch of rocks we thought just looked cool, put them in a plastic St. Paddy's hat and showed them to Mary for inspection. She kindly informed us that none of them were agates, explained what each one was and wrote down the beaches in the area that would most likely have agates. The next morning after we checked out, the receptionist told us Mary had left us something: it was a container of agates and well wishes. Knowing what agates looked like and with the list that Mary gave us, we successfully collected agates to our hearts' content that day before heading back home. Thanks, Mary!! read more

My Husband and I did a road trip for our 25 wedding anniversary. We stayed at Whale Cove Inn. Honestly I wish we would have stayed there longer. This place is beautiful and the people are amazing. Pictures do not do it justice. It is something you just have to see with your own eyes. I can not wait to go back again. This time it will be a longer stay for sure. read more
