When you get out of your car, the smell of the smoking meat is amazing. I was in Halls today to get some of the great BBQ. All was great until I got ready to check out. I ask the man behind the counter if they had a certain Beer that was made in NYC. He said no, I made a remark about not being to fund of anything from NY but it was good beer. He ask me why I didn't like NY. I said I am a native Texan, enough said. He came back and said he was from a town colse to NY and he thought it, NY was great, I said well how do you like the new Mayor? He said he is great, I said well I don't care for him. He said you must be a TRUMPER, I said yes I am, is that a problem, he said he hasn't done anything for our country, I said, We don't need to have this conversation, he said come tell me what is so great about him, I told him again, I am not having this conversation with you. He then said you Republicans are all alike, you can never tell anyone what is so great but you are ready to put NY people down. Forget the conversation, why would he challenge me in the first place, I am not sure I feel like going back to have to deal with that for a BBQ sandwich, The BBQ is good, but this guy was very Arrogant and had no business treating customers this way. I've been told by multiple people to try this place - supposedly the best bbq in the area. Maybe my expectations were high, but this was one of the worst bbq's I've tried since moving to TX. I let it go when the amounts of my order was completely wrong (even though the person wrote down my order - 1/2 lb each ribs, brisket, coleslaw, and beans, 1 lb potato salad) - the amounts were provided in reverse, so when my order came out to over $80 I was shocked! They were nice enough to fix everything, but I ended up getting less than 1/2 lb of each item...still cost around $40 :(. The worst of it was how ridiculously greasy the brisket and ribs were - we literally held up a rib bone and slices of brisket and saw grease dripping off both (and not just a drop or two). There was a pool of grease in both containers of meat. It made for a very unappetizing experience - ended up throwing it away. The sides were okay...decently flavored. Based on our experience, we're going to keep looking for a decent bbq spot. This place isn't for us. read more

This review is purely for the bbq restaurant inside the gas station/beer/wine/liquor store. Don't get me wrong, I will easily give this place as a whole 5 stars, but today I'm here for the bbq. To start the people behind the counter are super friendly. You walk in, look at the chalk board and they ask you in a nice way what would you like to order. Since I'm on a brisket kick I went with brisket on a hamburger bun with onions, pickles and sauce. Not sure if it was the sauce, bread or brisket, but it was heavenly. It was an absolute orchestra of deliciousness in my mouth. I highly recommend it, as a go-to for this bbq joint. This is the type of place where anything you order is going to be great. I visited yesterday for the first time, and I plan to visit again. I know good food because I'm from the east coast, and this carry-out delivers. A little costly, but I understand the price given the state of the economy. To match the price range, I believe they could provide an additional scoop of sides. WOW. This review is for the BBQ. Definitely was surprised when my fiancé took me here, due to the location. I never would have thought this place would be here, and definitely was skeptical but we will never pass up the opportunity to get some food when we're back here. We used to live around the corner and only found it a week before moving 15 minutes away. We will be going out of our way to get some Halls BBQ again. It's cheaper, delicious, the sides are amazing. I get the BBQ pulled pork sandwich and I can't pass up the opportunity to get some of their Mac n' Cheese. They apparently also have breakfast tacos, but anytime I've ever gone they've been closed. This is a great go-to location for beer and liquor. I mostly buy local craft beer and I can count on them having the latest releases. Within a minute of walking in I've usually been approached to ask if they can help me find something. They really mean it and will search the computer or walk the fridge to best help. When Troy Aikman said his new beer 8 would be coming out today, I thought for sure Hall's would be the place to go get it. I looked around for a bit and a young lady asked if she could help me. She went to look it up and then an old man who was hard of hearing behind the counter asked what I wanted. I said Troy Aikman's new beer. He said well whose is it? I repeated Troy Aikman and it's called 8. He said well it just has his signature on it, it's not his- what is it called? I held 8 fingers up and he said I've never heard of it. Okay I'm updating. I used to stop in here for vino only and would smell the heavenly smells. Forever I have been hearing incredible things about the BBQ here and have always for some reason ignored the recommendation. Not sure why as it's so convenient - perhaps because it's tucked away inside of the gas station so too easy to ignore. Let me tell you I will be a fan from now on! The brisket is thin sliced, juicy and delicious! And moist. I went there. I prefer my brisket that way instead of super thick. The lunch portion is simply perfection. It comes with 2 hearty sides for $10. So amazingly filling! Ask for the onions on the side too. There's other things I peeped on the menu I will be going back to try. I also love going into the wines and spirits section to grab something to go. The food is not too shabby on the wallet either especially with it being good quality BBQ. It's not super easy to find that in the mid-cities area. Continue to support local businesses during these times! And don't be like me and judge every BBQ shop inside of a gas station by its cover. read more

Stopped here today as I had a craving for brisket and Hall's did not disappoint. I ordered the 2 meat plate and it was more than filling. I had leftovers for dinner. The brisket was thinly sliced and very moist. No overpowering smoke flavor at all. The sausage was good as well as the potato salad and creamy mac and cheese. For $12.98 including taxes, this place was well worth a try. I will definitely be back and would recommend this place to anyone with an appetite for barbecue. read more

This is my go to spirits store. It also doubles as a bbq restaurant. I will review the BBQ first. The BBQ is decent. There are plenty of other good BBQ restaurants in the Dallas/Grapevine area but this place is slighty cheaper. Also, the food is not as good as other places. You can get the food quickly. The spirits selection is very good. This place frequently has free tastings. They also have specials on spirits that you have never heard of before. When it comes to a spirit store, you are interested in selection and price. Both are great here and that is why I am giving it 5 stars. read more

We have lived in Texas for 5 years and love the BBQ like everyone else. We live near Hall's BBQ but had never tried it; we stopped by one time a couple of years ago on a Sunday but found it to be closed. I was driving by this week and decided to finally put it to the test. Wow. $22 a pound brisket should taste better than shoe leather. The meat was tasteless, dry and tough. Other than that, hey.....my husband didn't even want to eat the leftovers for lunch, and he rarely turns down a plate full of meat. This went way beyond disappointment, it was more like shockingly bad. My disappointment is that I did not order a small 'trial' order first. What a waste of money. read more

This review is for the BBQ. I had a "plate" (to-go Box) of moist brisket, beans and cole slaw. It was all delicious! They also gave me plenty of pickled jalapeños and carrots, dill pickle slices, salad pepper slices and BBQ sauce. They also serve breakfast tacos, and an enchilada plate. And there are lots of meats to choose from including bologna and HOT bologna. Service was quick and friendly. If I had any criticism it is that there is no place on site to dine, so it's take out only. I wish they had some tables and chairs outside, as today would have been quite pleasant. They also have a gas station, convenience store and liquor store at this location. Be advised: the liquor store where the BBQ is sold doesn't open until 10:00am read more

Delicious! My husband brought home takeout and I must say the us is one of the best BBQ places around the area. The brisket is moist and came chopped. I'm not sure is chopped is the default or if my husband requested it that way. Ribs were really good with a nice slightly sweet, smoky flavor. I gave Hall's one more chance to impress me being a local liquor store but they have failed for the third time. Three strikes you're out. I've mentioned stale beverages to the staff. I got clued in about this place by a friend shortly after we moved to Texas. Yes, it looks like a little hole in the wall attached to a gas station. But it is kind of like the Tardis, it is much bigger on the inside. They have by far the best/widest selection of beer you will find anywhere in the Metroplex area. More craft beers than you can imagine. Not 10 shelves of Bud Light and 10 shelves of Miller Lite. Every row on every shelf is a different beer. And if you are looking for a beer you don't see on their shelves, just ask them and they will try to get it for you. They also have an excellent selection of spirits and wine, although I'm mainly there for the beer. Their best kept secret, however, is their little deli in the back. Absolutely the best barbecue in Texas, hands down. I lived in North Carolina where pulled pork is like a religion and Hall's pulled pork barbecue sandwich is maybe the best I have ever had. To die for! I haven't been there recently because of the quarantine but before that I made the hour trip from Argyle regularly. I saw a couple of negative reviews on here, from apparently negative people, so I wanted to correct any misperceptions. The big chains (Total Wines, etc.) can't touch them for price, selection or service. Their prices are as low or lower than anywhere else. The staff is also great, very friendly, and knowledgeable about what they sell, can always give you good advice. And they will carry your boxes of IPAs (or whatever your poison is) out to your car for you! If you are looking for the best beer selection and/or the best barbecue you can find, you definitely need to pay Hall's a visit. read more

Today I popped in for a bottle of wine... Three reasons I was in a liquor store before noon: 1.) You can't buy liquor in Texas on Sunday's before noon. And that's why I couldn't buy wine yesterday when I was shopping 2.) I baked cookies with my kids last night- so I definitely polished off the gross left over wine I had sitting around. 3.) kids. (see number two) This isn't the reason, I'm writing this update, however. But I just thought I should throw that out there before moving onto my actual review... So, when I was in the store, a young man had walked in right in front of me. He walked up to the counter with pristine manners, and presented his resume/application to the general manager on duty. A few simple interview questions I over heard while browsing, and by the time i'd wandered around and back to the counter the young man was leaving. I heard the GM hollering after him "See you at eight! And don't be late!" as the young man was exiting. The applicant was absolutely beaming, literally rubbing his head in bewilderment while exiting. They'd hired him right then and there! And I just thought it was SO sweet that I almost started crying, because I'm a mom, and sometimes over emotional. This is one reason I LOVE mom and pop, locally owned businesses! They hire our community members (I had heard where the applicant resided), and give younger adults a chance at a job that maybe bigger businesses might not. Hall's always has amazing customer service. Their store is always clean. They've always got the best selection. The owner is pretty darn funny guy! They'd won my business a long time ago, but now they've won my heart! :) read more

I have never felt more inclined to write about food than I do right this moment. I was shopping Hall's Liquor, a store I've been going to for over two years now (and yes - it's small, but honestly who the hell cares unless you're really trivial about shopping space), and today is the first day I ever got BBQ from the stand inside. The smoker was firing up outside when I stepped out of my car this evening and I don't know if it was the rain and cold that made it smell better than ever or if maybe they changed the wood to something more seductive... but I was hooked. I bought my liquor - vodka for the man in my life... rum & ginger beer for the dark 'n' stormy I'll be making later... and then I went to the counter of the BBQ stand... My god. The little white dry erase board they use as their menu has more items on it than the Macy's Christmas Catalog. I chose a pound of pulled pork (I swear it's not all for me but after eating it with their tangy BBQ I am not so sure now....) - also got potato salad and pimento cheese (YES - pimento cheese.) I will now be tempted to come back and order BBQ on the reg - and y'all, we don't know each other very well, but I am NOT a BBQ fan (and I have lived in Texas nearly 30 years now.) IT IS THE BEST PULLED PORK I'VE EVER HAD IN THE STATE AND ANY OTHER FOR THAT MATTER. Maybe they add meth to it - who knows down here in the South... all I know is it is DELICIOUS and the pimento cheese is spot on. BUT - back to the liquor store part ...I am seeing reviews on the side of my screen about people complaining about employees. These people have always been decent to me. I see the same shaved-head man nearly every time I go. I don't really expect much from liquor store employees (no offense if you're reading this) but I don't know if customer service is something I look for in a liquor store employee. If you live in the mid-cities of DFW, drink any kind of liquor, or have any interest in beer or wine, you were probably ECSTATIC when Hall's Grocery became a licensed liquor store. They have a pretty phenomenal selection of beers, wines, ciders, and the many varietals of vodka, gin, tequila, whiskey (on and on and on). Even the weird stuff that I think no one ever buys, like spiked whipped cream. This is a small space, it's not all open and laid out pretty like Goody Goody. It's attached to a gas station, is full of taxidermied (is that a word?) animals, and smells like beef jerky. It's all great though, the physical setting just adds to the sort of hometown, rustic, Texas spirit that Hall's has going on. You'll find whatever you need here, especially if you're looking for barbecue. It's not weird, it's eclectic! They have all kinds of home-smoked meats to take home with your beer, scotch, cinnamon schnapps or root-beer flavored vodka. Change is a comin. On my last review I raved about the $3.99 Hotlink Sandwich. Today it was $5.49, a pretty big jump in a couple years. But it was thick with a perfectly spicy bite of Hotlink, a nice crunchy skin with tangy sauce and onions. Still a bargain. Biggest change is the attitude now. It's hard to get offended just checking out but the piss poor attitude of the punk at the register somehow manages to do it. And $85.99 for a Thanksgiving Turkey? Wow. Still, a great selection of wine beer and BBQ. read more

Great little corner grocery/deli that turned into a liquor store. Grapevine has been a dry county for a long time and driving 20 minutes there are back to get liquor in the next county was getting a little old. I am from California, so this dry county thing took a little time to get used too, as well as the times for selling. I was so happy when they brought liquor into Grapevine! Halls has always carried a large variety of wine and beer. I could get Hungarian wine there too! The deli sandwiches were awesome as well. They used to have a small selection of fruits and veggie before the liquor. They now carry a large selection of alcohol and will order something for you, if they don't have it in stock. They wines are still outstanding and the deli is just as fresh as ever. A great family run business! read more

This is my favorite store. They have been in business since before I was born and have excellent customer service!!!!! The sandwiches are awesome and they never forget a repeated customer! Their shirts are funny saying that they've been pissing customers off since the 1930's. Which those of us, who actually have a sense of humor, find funny as heck! Hall's is the best gas station store for all of your booze needs. They have an endless selection of beer, even stuff I have never seen at places like Total Wine or Specs. They had beer from Brazil, Italy etc. It really is amazing to just spend time looking at all the different stuff they have. The one thing I didn't like is that 90% of their beer is refrigerated, so if you want to give some as a present to someone or if you want to take it somewhere you are kind of screwed. Also, cheers to having actual liquor! The parking is limited and their prices are a bit higher than other places, but that is the price of convenience. Super friendly staff too. read more

Looks are definitely deceiving when talking about Hall's Grocery. In fact, if you were not looking for this place, you would probably pass it without a second thought (thinking it was an ordinary gas station with some kitschy stuff out front). But you would be so... wrong. Nice deli, a small assortment of tobacco products (cigars), a farmers market, and a fantastic selection of wine / beer (the real star of this location). It's usually more expensive to purchase the wine / beer here so don't go here for your Bud Light (Albertson's is right next door). Go here for the really unique stuff (I've heard that at times they carry stuff of legend, LOL). If anyplace beats Central Market in overall variety of beer then Hall's is definitely that place (they probably tie for wine selection). So if you are interested in unique beers then go check this place out (I wouldn't be shocked if the associates at Central Market are directing customers to this place at times). read more
