This is a heightened concern for me as I have a handicap daughter with cerebral palsy coupled with seizures and she requires air-conditioning to keep her stable. I called Affordable air-conditioning around 2 PM within five minutes, Jim the owner, called me back. I had not stated anything about my daughter to him just said that I needed service on my air-conditioning. He asked where I was located he said I'll be there in five minutes. That blew my mind! He arrived within five minutes and we went to where the pump is located. By that time the air conditioning had "fixed itself??" and was working properly and starting to cool the house again. Jim gave me hooked up his equipment and verified everything looked normal. Jim gave me a few tips about the operation and cleaning the unit, shook my hand and wished us a great day. John Carlson came out that day, and gave me a bid. I thought the numbers looked reasonable, and he started work right away, putting in a ductless HVAC unit. John was professional, and when he finished the installation, it was operating perfectly. Several weeks later, I started having trouble with my HVAC system. The fan was working, but the unit wasn't cooling. I wondered if I was doing something wrong, and looked at some You Tube videos. Nothing I saw, or attempted, seemed to work. It didn't help that this breakdown had happened in the middle of a heat wave, and I seriously doubted a quick fix was imminent. Nonetheless, early this morning I sent a text to John, explaining the situation. Given the excessive heat, I knew how busy he had to be. Despite that, he responded to my text and said he would try and shoehorn me into his schedule. Within hours, he was at my doorstep, and working on the problem. It turned out that the coolant had escaped through a defective flange. The system is now working perfectly, and I'm a cool cucumber despite it being 92 degrees outside. You know you've picked the right HVAC person when they respond with such alacrity to a problem. It might seem that the safe HVAC choice would be one of the big firms that advertises relentlessly on TV. I instead opted to call someone local to me (Escondido) instead of someone having to drive from 20 miles out. I called Monday morning, was booked for that same afternoon as our AC decided not to work at 1am. Surprisingly, Jim arrived just before 12pm as he was already in the area. I very much welcomed the early arrival as the heat was starting to escalate. It took Jim literally 3 minutes to diagnose the problem of our AC, a burnt relay contact (I wrongly predicted a faulty capacitor). This is how you know you are dealing with an experienced professional when he brings out only the necessary tools and leaves the work site clean. Jim was in and out in about 35 minutes (should have been less than 30 if I hadn't asked questions). As they say in the industry, there are no second chances for first impressions, Because of this, I'll give them my business for AC maintenance moving forward due to my great experience, promptly saving me and family from roasting in an above average SoCal summer. Now, living in San Diego, this really isn't an issue but every now and then Escondido has extremely cold nights. I decided to have the unit inspected looking for advice on repairs. Listening to KSON, they recommended Mauzzy ( spelling???) heating and air so I called them for a $99 inspection. Long story short, the guy said my unit was too old and he recommended replacing the entire unit for $16-20k. I said nope and he left. I was at my favorite coffee shop telling a friend about this when another gentleman overheard me. He recommended Jim to me. Jim comes out, runs a few test & in less than 10 minutes finds the issue. He had to order the part so I had to wait a few weeks ( no big deal ). He gets the part in, schedules a convenient time for me to install the part costing me a total of $220. I cannot recommend Jim enough, he is truly honest, reliable, & dependable. Imagine being told you needed $16k replacement when all you needed was $200 part.... I can't recommend him enough. I've already told all my neighbors about him.
