Great selection of treats here, not just ice cream! There are booths inside, along with stand alone tables and chairs, and some outside. Even up until closing they are quite busy, I believe hours may shift between summer and fall/winter so make sure you double check. They have a wide selection of ice cream flavors and Italian ice flavors. The Ed Special is particularly delicious (vanilla ice cream, peanut butter, fudge, and pretzels). My sister is addicted to this place. Every time we dine out in Pennington, I have to take her to Uncle Ed's afterwards for her ice cream fix. She's skinny anyway, so it is not a big issue for her. She orders medium or large and gives me a taste in a little cup when we eat in the car in the parking lot. There are booths inside and tables outside for the warmer weather, but we prefer eating in the car. There are a lot of different flavors which are posted on their website, and we have tried many. Delicious! The vanilla and variations upon are especially good. They also have frozen ice cream cakes, cookies and candies, which I look forward to trying one day when I get ambitious. The place is often crowded with Pennington Prep School students and locals after sporting and other events. It's good to have a local place like this. I've been to other Uncle Ed's incarnations, but it appears that this is the only location at this time. The only downside to this one is the parking lot. With a new and trendy eatery sharing the space, it may be hard to snag a spot during dinner time. I knew what I wanted before walking in, the website had a list of current flavors. I ordered a medium cup of mud and dirt paired with s'mores. Both flavors were creamy and not overly sweet. Mud and dirt is basically chocolate with brownies and chocolate cookies pieces mixed in. I'd be happy revisiting either flavor on subsequent trips here. My co-diner of the evening selected a cone of their coffee flavor and enjoyed it, the one scoop was more like 2, and both items came in around $8. Not bad at all in my opinion. There are amazing looking ice cream cakes available as well as candies and maybe some baked goods too. About 6 indoor tables and the same amount of outdoor ones. Service was quick and friendly. Uncle Ed's was a sweet spot in our midweek rut, we decided to stop by and get some ice cream as a pick me up on a sunny day. The store is super cute and has some tables and chairs outside to eat (no eating indoors yet). Everything seemed very clean and the young ladies behind the counter were friendly. We went Mud & Dirt (chocolate ice cream with fudge brownies & chocolate crunch) and I know what you are thinking....ugh that's too much chocolate! Well, it's not. If you are through a global pandemic, a breakup, postpardum, lost a job or just simply love chocolate - this flavor is for you. My son and I absolutely loved it! Hubby went with the Ed Special (vanilla ice cream w/ fudge peanut butter & chocolate covered pretzels) and that was also delicious. It was a happy contrast to the chocolate explosion I ordered and brought some good crunch with the pretzels. Nice little ice cream store that we found because of a friend who ordered a surprise cake for us! I didn't go into the store, but I was told they have a lot of sweet baked offerings too apart from the frozen treats. The ice cream cake round was delicious, we got a strawberry and chocolate combination with what seemed like cookie crumbles, the ice cream was just perfect and silky, but what stood out was the light and fluffy butter frosting that really complimented the ice cream. I went a little outside of my usual radius to try out a new (to me) ice cream place, based on somewhat decent reviews of Uncle Ed's Creamery. In addition to ice cream, they sell chocolates/truffles, cakes, and cookies. I tried the coconut ice cream and it was among the best I've had...very rich and high quality, and it didn't melt all that much despite driving almost 20 minutes on a warm day before tasting it. The large cup of ice cream was a bit pricey at $5.50, but was generous in portion compared to the small cup which was $3.75. Based on the prices, I wouldn't make a special trip out to Uncle Ed's Creamery for ice cream again, but look forward to trying some of their treats on occasion when passing through the area. read more

This is a solid ice cream spot, home of my favorite cherry vanilla in the Princeton area. I'd give this place a 4.5 if I could; I've wavered between 4 and 5 for far at least ten minutes and I just needed to pick one to get on with the review. My friend thinks the vanilla based flavors have too strong of a vanilla taste, but I think they do a great vanilla base, so I'm not bothered by it (it tastes a little like sweet cream). Like I said, the cherry vanilla is bomb. The last time I was there I tried the black raspberry, and it was definitely good--not the best, however, because that is here in Rhode Island at the Lincoln Creamery. (Perhaps that's neither here nor there). There's a large selection of flavors, and the high school kids who work there are friendly. I've actually only ever been treated to ice cream here, so I can't speak on the prices (I'm so spoiled!), but I think it's decent value for cost. From the second you walk in, you are greeted with an overwhelming fabuloso smell. Ew. We were planning on eating outside anyways. We ordered our ice cream and saw they had chocolates too. I asked for a pound of nonpareils that I had pointed to behind the glass window. We waited (what seemed like forever) for them to weigh and box this chocolate. We pay, we eat our ice cream (which for a "creamery" I had high expectations, but there was nothing special about this ice cream, it tastes like the cheap Walmart brand), and we leave. I get home excited to have a nonpareil, I opened the box and realized that's not the ones we wanted behind the glass. These were like tear drop shaped, not round. I was like ok I guess they just make them in different shapes. I took a bite and EW. FABULOSO. EVERY piece in the box tasted like effing fabuloso. Shady how they took so long to get it to us and then I get something I can't even eat. We were already home, 50 minutes away, so there was nothing I could do except warn others by writing this review. So not cool. UGH. that chocolate was friggin expensive too. So gross. read more

My kids camp season is over and we have a while to go before school starts. So, I'm doing full time daddy day care. We're often on the go, looking for fun stuff to do and new places to eat. Today's random trip led us to Pennington and then Uncle Ed's Creamery for some ice cream refreshment. Ed's serves up everything ranging from ice cream and shakes to cookies and chocolates. According to the worker, everything is made on the premises expect for the chocolates and some of the gift boxes they sell. Quality is good. Kids liked it, and everything on the display cases looked quite good. Food aside, Ed's looks like is hasn't been updated in decades. Both the building and interior look like they're straight out of the late 1980s. That leads me to my one issue with the place; the overwhelming mold funk wafting out of the ceiling vents. It was repugnant, obvious, and so bad in fact, that we had to leave to eat outside. I don't know what's going on here but management seriously needs to clean the HVAC system and inspect for mold. It's completely awful and unhealthy for patrons and workers alike. read more

If that did not wet your tongue, a few steps further and they have their selection of home made cookies . I've read other reviewers post that their cookies were delicious but my craving had nothing but ice cream on the list. Once you pass up the chocolates and cookies, you are met with a vast selection of ice cream choices. I have to say, if you're not into chocolate mixed into your ice cream, this place may not be for you. I went with what the servers ended up recommending and got the Uncle Ed's special and the chocolate cookies and cream. The Uncle Ed's special is a mixture of vanilla ice cream, pretzels and peanut butter cups. Omg it was SO GOOD! I didn't really get the same friendly experience as the others did. The owner barely turned around to acknowledge me and the girl who served me my ice cream seemed rushed. (I was the only customer) The ice cream is great though, very light and smooth and yet flavorful. I was passing through Pennington last week and happened to stop at Uncle Eds. I don't know if it was the 100 degree temperatures, but I was hankering for an old time ice cream shop. Let me tell you,Uncle Ed's is the real deal when it comes to ice cream. When I got to the counter, I asked jokingly where Uncle Ed was. To my surprise, I was actually talking to THE Uncle Ed. He told me about all of the different flavors and gave me a taste. I had trouble deciding, but settled on the coffee. Please believe me when I say it was the best coffee ice cream I have ever had, Ed explained that the milk comes from a local farmer and the batch (like the others) was made fresh in store. I had to get on my way, but I will make sure that I stop in and visit Uncle Ed the next time I am in Pennington. Do yourself a favor and stop by and try it for yourself. read more
