PLEASE READ BEOFRE GOING HERE. My car was in a minor accident and it just needed a radiator support and some cosmetic work. It was under insurance and my car was there for over a month. My auto insurance adjuster originally quoted me a 5-day repair time. In the second week, I went to check on my car after my auto insurance adjuster told me there was damage that shouldn't have been caused by the accident and wouldn't be covered. When I got there, there was new paint damage and curb rash. And they didn't take accountability for that. No parts had been ordered, and I specifically told them not to touch my headlights. I was told it would be done in four days. In week three, still no parts had been ordered. I stopped by once again to check on my car because I had a bad feeling about this. I walked in on them working on my headlights and trying to fix the blinker that was out on my headlight, which I did not have enough money to fix at the time. He then told me that he had ordered the part and was going to put it on. He had ordered the 700 dollar headlight part that I told him not to get, and it was not going to be covered under insurance. I told him no, that's not what I wanted. and that I had already told him no. He tried convincing me six separate times to put this part on. I was told it would be done in three days. by week four, the parts had finally arrived, and I actually saw them working on my car. I was told it would be ready by the next day. I came by the next day and he said, "Come by tomorrow." I came back the next day and he said, "We just need a little bit more stuff. Come by tomorrow." I said no, I'm not going to come back tomorrow and that I was getting my car back today. This was unacceptable and unbelievable. I told him I needed my car back today. They'd been saying tomorrow three or four times in a row. I asked the mechanic how much longer he thought it would take, and he said 45 minutes. I went back to the manager, and he said, "Come back tomorrow," of course. I said no and told him I had just spoken to his mechanic who said 45 minutes. I came back an hour and a half later, and my car was ready. I was pretty excited to finally have my car back after a little over a month.But I got my car back as they were closing. As I was checking out my car and doing the walk around, I noticed a lot of bad things about the repair they did. I'm going to list every single thing that I have been able to find that they messed up on my car. So far, here's everything under the problems with the car that was fine before I dropped off. the front bumper and body panels that were correctly aligned before no longer align correctly, which THIS accident couldn't have caused. The body lines and gaps are no longer lining up. They only put in two of the four bolts that go into one of my headlights. They forgot a whole bumper bolt. Very obvious missing bolts from the wheel liner, and a missing part of the wheel liner. Left with zero coolant in the engine. They proceeded to pour non-distilled water in my coolant reservoir, so now I have to do a coolant flush. There was a nail in my tire. They did not plug in my front parking sensors. They did not screw in my hood latch at all, so I couldn't get my hood open for 20 minutes. Also there's just so many loose screws. THIS IS WHAT I'VE BEEN ABLE TO FIND WITHOUT TAKING OFF BUMPER will edit if I need to As of now I have not contacted Hal's Auto body about this yet due to the circumstances surrounding the repairs and damage I received back, I am considering potential legal action and documenting everything read more

I have now received a partial refund. MIRACLE! I applaud the shop for doing the right thing with this, and it is for that reason ONLY that I have given them one more star (much as I don't think they really deserve it). I still don't think they really understand the extent of the inconvenience and stress caused by their complete lack of care in "repairing" my car. They now want the horrible door they put on my car to be returned to them when it is replaced by a proper one. THE NERVE! I have no idea when I will even be able to take care of getting my car repaired - AGAIN! They already had my car for a month - now I'm supposed to immediately bring it in SOMEWHERE ELSE to get it properly repaired - at my own expense for the rental and at a cost that is MORE than the refund - so that I can give them back the door so they can return it and get THEIR refund for that??? Seriously - they should have thought about all these things before causing me the misery I am still experiencing, considering I have to go through it all again... I find more issues with it daily - the entire INTERIOR of the door was left totally UNPAINTED (and was disgustingly filthy, I discovered in the right light)! AND IT IS THE WRONG COLOR AND DENTED!!!! And the weather stripping is holding on by a mere thread - AND the "new" paint keeps CHIPPING! It's like when you get your hair done and they totally botch it. They will just say, "come back - I'll fix it!" whereas a) that takes YOUR time b) it's usually going to completely damage it if anything chemical was done to it and c) it's traumatizing! Vendors: It's not THAT simple! DO IT RIGHT THE FIRST TIME! This is the same on a bigger scale. Just because I got SOME money back doesn't mean that all is OK! YOU, the shop, are finished with it - I STILL have to deal with it! AND getting this refund was another MANY days of nightmarish delays, discussions, and STRESS! So, NO, Hal's, I will not be concerning myself with YOUR refund, and note that I have no idea when I will be able to deal with this. Each time I drive a rental it's traumatizing for me - I am uncomfortable, and therefore feel less safe. I am not ready to go through that again so soon! I DREAD IT! I EVEN SAID "DO IT RIGHT THE FIRST TIME" WHEN I DROPPED IT OFF! I CAN'T COME BACK HERE AGAIN!" At least when I do take it in again, somewhere more competent, I will, thanks to MY determination and perseverance and tenacity, have SOME money with which to have it repaired properly. HAL'S - You should be ashamed and embarrassed. This is shocking, especially considering your other reviews. Is this just how you treat older women? Would you have treated the job with the respect and care it deserved if I either had my husband with me or if I, myself, WAS a man? I have no choice but to repeat my warning... read more

I brought three different vehicles here over the last several years, and always have received professional treatment, fast honest quotes, accurate time estimates and great and fair prices. One time, the guy made a mistake on the cost of a part (he showed me on the computer manufactorer's website all the prices, and he wrote the wrong line number), and honored the price he gave me. Let me start off by saying this. Best body shop thus far. Took my 2015 Hyundai Sonata in for a side swipe repair. Hal's auto body were more than willing to accommodate my crazy work schedule to pick it up when it was all completed. The work they did is amazing. My car looks brand new again. The price to fix it was reasonable and I never felt pressured to do anything. He gave me a full estimate and explained to me in through what needed to be repaired. I would highly recommend this shop. Their work is superb. I called Hal's auto body a few times and each time they answered they were really friendly and kept me updated as to when the car would be completed. Upon my arrival my car was washed and extremely shiny. Definitely will be referring family and friends to this shop if they ever need it! What a Blessing! This is the best auto shop around town! I went in with my Toyota T100 (limited edition) that is my dream truck with a huge dent on the passenger side. The repair job on my van is very shoddy. I had my rear and front bumper repaired. On surface it looks okay but when I got the car appraised the appraiser noticed the bumpers had been repainted right away. You can see the different paint in the grooves of the bumper. It is not seamless at all in the sunlight. I would not recommend this shop to anyone. read more

***edit 6/16/07*** First off, an apology: I meant every word I said of the original review, but I meant it about a different business! In my defense, the two businesses are side-by-side on the same lot and owned by the same lovely gentleman: Bob! To clarify (for all those of you going "huh?" right now): Hal's Auto is the body shop. Superior Auto Repairs is the auto repair shop. Oops. Note to self - actually REMEMBER the name of the place you take your car for everything from gaskets to catalytic converters. So back to the body shop. I used to live in a seriously f***'ed up apartment. Well, the whole situation was kinda like that. But the building was more or less collapsing while simultaneously sinking into the ground. None of the floors were flat. None of the walls were square. All of our furniture was propped up on one side. The parking structure under the building was a nightmare. As I tell my friends, with hand gestures, the entrance was steeeeeeep and only thiiiis wide, while my beautiful, barely-driven 2001 Solara is thiiiiiiiiiiis wide. Still with me? Okay. So one morning, late for work (shocker), I was attempting to pull up the extremely steep and narrow driveway at what turned out to be an impossible angle. You know that horrible noise cars make as all the paint on one flank is sloooooooowly ground off by a cement wall? Yeah, that sound to me means "time to go see Bob . . ." So I took my car around for a couple estimates on repair. Naturally, Bob came in super-low. When I backed into a Taurus the next week (okay shut UP!) and had to have my bumper examined by an adjuster, Bob let me leave the car at his garage even though I wasn't getting any work done on it (there was no damage to *my* bumper . . .stupid plasticyFord . . .). . . And just as they do for Superior, my boyfriend's whole family swears by the body shop. My very loving and helpful (and not at ALL a mommy's boy) boyfriend took his mom's car there while she was on a trip, to have a few minor dings and scratches (from some idiot opening a door into hers) painted up. They were completely meticulous to the point that she never even noticed the work had been done (despite being one of those amazing people who can see unbelievably microscopic blemishes without the aid of so much as reading glasses) . . . it has since become a bit of a joke in the family. "So, Mom, notice anything different about the car?" "Um . . .it got a haircut?" Granted this is a rudimentary job, but I thought I would share it as an example of the shop's high standards and attention to detail. The absolute BEST place to bring your car for auto body work in the Valley. I almost hesitate to say it, since I'm worried he'll change his prices, but he is SO much lower than any other estimate. Which would be a worthless fact if his work was crap, but it is not! He does incredibly great work - super fast at a fair price. Don't shop around. I did, and it's not worth it. Hal is literally the best. I sent in my car for repair here honestly because this was the cheapest. Not only was the repairs cheap, it was done with alright timing (partially my fault) and great care and professionalism. Hal was very friendly but organization could have been a little better. At first I was nervous considering the office size but it turned out fairly well. I only had one slight issue. One of my headlights fogged up completely and there is dirt inside which was not there before. ai don't know how they contributed to it but it is very noticeable. Unfortunately I will most likely be back there sooner than later as I was being followed by a suspicious vehicle and hit a dip simply going too fast which destroyed my brand new bumper. i've been to Hal's twice within 2 months due to bad luck. The shop has been absolutely wonderful and helpful BOTH TIMES. They've saved me a considerate amount of money and grieves. Although I wish not to return anytime soon (or ever) because one does not need more accidents, but if anyone who is nearby that needs some work done, this is the place to call. other pros Dan's supersub and starbucks are nearby, you can always wait for your friends to pick you up there only con: limited parking spots in front of the shop, you want to be VERY careful when you back your car out into the street, but they'll help guide ya. read more

Took my car to Hal's for fixing my front bumper which got ripped out by a metallic piece of crap sticking out of a blocker strip. They are the only shop which told me that they had to remove the bumper to see what was broken underneath before they could give an estimate, which struck me as quite fair and reasonable. Far better to know the hit upfront than have nasty surprises later. They were polite and did an outstanding job. Delivered high quality and on time. The bumper looks brand new. To my pleasant surprise, they came in $200 below the original estimate since they found that one of the parts in the original estimate didn't require replacement. After years of shelling out more than the original estimate, that was wholly unexpected and the icing on the proverbial cake. Would definitely go back there for future needs. Luckily we have only had to use Hal's Auto Body a handful of times. We were hit in the rear by a distracted driver in our Lexus. Then we were hit in my BMW at the corner of Shoup and Ventura (Just a block away from the body shop) by a girl who was learning to drive with her father. Then years later, my wife was hit by an elderly driver who shouldn't have been at the wheel in the first place. These were the biggest ones. My cars are a bit old now so now just let the dents and dings go. If you need your car fixed right, come here. read more

I took my car to Hal's for repair of a scraped and dented bumper and side panel. He said the job would take 3-4 days, but it took five. Not a huge problem, but it would have been nice if someone had told me, when they weren't going to make the original estimate, that there was a delay and explained why. The workmen were nice and the paint match was very good. However, the panel level match was not. They tried to fix it while I was there, once I pointed out the panels didn't match, but all they were doing was pushing metal around by hand. They could have seen the problem when they were working on the car, but apparently they didn't think it was significant. There was a paint drip on the area they fixed. Also, the area that they fixed was dirty; that also hints at a lack of attention to detail. Overall, should I ever need a body shop again, I think I'll try somewhere else. read more

I drove down from SF to visit family and some random guy decided to ram into the front right of my car, dislodging the foglight, messing up the paint, and throwing the bumper out of alignment. After checking some other auto shops I went on yelp and went to see Hal. Im so glad I did. Hes the nicest guy, has a shop thats obviously busy, and doesnt try to rip you off by telling you everything needs to be replaced and that itll take 5x longer than actuality to fix the car. In less than a day he had the car looking brand new. And his price was beyond fair and reasonable. I had been quoted literally $1000 more elsewhere. I brought my car in for an estimate. After getting over my surprise at the estimate - it was far less than I expected - we agreed on a start date and I left. I delivered the car on schedule, and Hal gave me his best guess at a complete date. The delivery was delayed by 1 day due to a part availability issue not of Hal's doing. I consider myself a perfectionist, especially when it comes to my car, and I must say my expectations were not only met, they were exceeded! The repairs were indistinguishable from the undamaged areas and the 12 year old car looked like it had just rolled off the showroom floor. All this and for less than I had budgeted for.
