Fine food but belied by a lengthy wait. I placed an online order for pickup and was quoted 20 minutes. I showed up 30 minutes later and the order hadn't even been started. Apparently there was a staffing shortage that evening, which is unfortunate and the owner was very apologetic. However waiting *an additional* 30 minutes for my order to cook after I arrived sullied the whole experience. Just isolating the food, I think the Tandoori Chicken pizza is unique, spicy and overall good. To balance the heat, I added some creamy ranch dressing from my fridge which really enhanced the pizza. The Original Stromboli was okay. The restaurant doesn't serve pork, and the beef pepperoni didn't really hit for me. We wanted to give this place and their unique tandoori chicken pizza a try a couple weeks ago. It was a Friday and put our order in around 6 and were told 15 minutes. We waited a bit and headed over and realized that several people were ahead of us waiting for their orders, too. There was only one woman working alone... doing it all. She told my husband that it would be 15 more minutes so he waited in the car. 15 minutes later turned into 30 more and it was an hour before we got our one medium pizza and salad. The problem was that she kept taking phone and online orders: half of the people waiting were order delivery drivers (who would be blamed for very cold, very late pizza). She told everyone on the phone 15 minutes. But told a customer she was 50 (or perhaps 15??) orders behind. Either way, that's not honest and no pizza is worth waiting more than an hour if I didn't expect it. We felt really badly she was alone and also understand that happens now more than ever. But please stop taking orders and get caught up and don't tell people 15 minutes when you mean an hour or more. Now. The pizza. Chicken tandoori is not a bad pizza! It's different and doesn't do much to satisfy a pizza craving but the flavors were nice and not too spicy at all (and we love spicy). The chicken was lovely and not dry at all. The crust was pretty boring and could use a bit of flavor or even cornmeal for texture. Already I am hooked, and I order a chicken bacon ranch pizza. As I'm waiting for my food, I hear people come in and out and each one the man behind the counter has something to say to everyone and has a conversation with all of his customers. He was genuinely so pleasant I'd go back just to talk to him. He brings the food out and I proceed to eat the best pizza I've had in months. It was sooooooo unbelievably good. First time trying, just went with a medium pepperoni pizza and 12 hot wings. The crust of the pizza is doughy but good. Pepperoni has a good flavor in terms of savoriness and is cooked to the point that the edges of the pepperoni become darkened and give a pleasant crunch. I'm definitely interested now in trying some of their specialty pies. Wings are baked and very good as well. They're on the smaller side for people who care about that, but this probably means less steroids in the chicken so up to you. Got the hot version but not very spicy in my opinion. Before we moved away from the Grandview area we wanted to make sure that we tried Halwani Cuisine. We have heard so many people rave about their pizza. The major things to note are Halwani is kind of hidden off of Grandview Avenue, almost behind the Big Lots, blink and you could easily miss it. Next, the hours are a little different than your typical restaurant. They are open Tuesday through Saturday, but they do not open until 5pm (later than normal), but they stay open until 3:30am, so if you are looking for a late night bite after a night out....Halwani's is your place. They also deliver, in case you can't drive late at night, they will bring you your pizza. Now, if you have ever heard of Halwani Cuisine, than I am certain you have heard someone recommend their Tandoori Chicken pizza. It has Indian hot sauce, marinated grilled chicken, Indian Tandoori spices, and jalapenos on it. This particular pizza has to be one of their best sellers. So of course, I had to order it. I was a little concerned that it may be too hot for me, but when in Rome. We choose take out. When we got our pizzas home they were still warm. I took one bite into my Tandoori Chicken Pizza and I knew my mouth was in for a party. So many flavors happening all at once. Overall I really enjoyed the first piece, but over time the pizza just got too hot for me. Maybe if I had just gotten it without the jalapenos I could have made it deeper into my dinner. I really did like the flavor, I just couldn't take it after a while. I ended up being hungry but unable to finish my pieces of pizza. Maybe I'm a wimp. We also ordered the cheezy garlic bread, and if I were you, I would skip ordering that. Or if Halwani reads this, they will realize there is huge room for improvement since their pizzas are sooo good, so maybe they will improve the garlic bread? Halwani is a quiet little joint off the alley behind the former Fifth Avenue Giant Eagle. An Italian restaurant, its cozy dining room is warm with dark red colors, and it has about seven to ten tables. There is seating outside on their thin sidewalk, a couple metal bistro sets uncovered, a nicer environment then you'd imagine as the alley is sleepy and there are neighborhood trees that provides some shade. The former supermarker provides plenty of parking. Not a place to go on lunch break if you have only 30 minutes; even small dishes can take the lion share of your lunch time to make, leaving you to scarf down the meal in the remaining seconds you have left. That's what happened to me with my Stromboli; they said it would take ten minutes but it took nearly twice that. Not really a complaint, good food takes time especially fresh rolled Stroms, but for those that need to get in and get out take note. Buffalo Chicken was the filling I chose. Their medium size priced at $9 and change would be considered an individual large at other places. It met my heavy appetite, but for lighter eaters a small will do. Baked perfectly, I loved the crust. Equally delicious was the chicken mixed with liquidated onions, and chesses. Jalapenos gave each bite a hot kick which balanced the sweatness of the provalone and mozzarella. The only dissapointment with the Stromboli was the hot sauce; I really didn't think it tasted, for lack of a better description, 'Buffalo' enough. Still, it was a awesome meal. Another good Stromboli I recommend is their Spinach Feta. Their specialty pizzas are a must try for the enterprising foody or pizza pie adventurer. The menu pretty extensive for a small shop. A great Grandview area bistro that I recommend trying on lazy, chill-out days when you have time. For those with short lunch breaks though, wait until after work to visit. read more
