Was looking for a sushi place in Maple Ridge one afternoon and stumbled across this place. I didn't realize this place had Filipino, Japanese and Korean food! Everything from sushi, ramen bowls, Korean fried chicken, smash burgers, silog and a seafood boil! We ended up having the 1/2 pound mussels and 1/2 pound shrimp ($27! So reasonable). Plus the Korean fried chicken. It was delicious and I'll be back to try the rest of the menu! read more

Had a chance to finally go back to this place after several years and my recent visit was good. The place was not busy at dinner time so we got seated right away. There's only 1 person working at the front doing everything and he's friendly. The rolls are a bit smaller but tastes good. The Chicken Karage I'm expecting is different from what we've got. Went here for dinner on a winter night and it was quiet cold inside. It was cold to the extent I couldn't bare to take my toque off. The waitress didn't do a quality check for us, refill our drinks or happen to bring the bill we had to walk up. The food was good, and the ginger was great. I just went there and was really pleased with the quality. I had some sashimi, a tuna/salmon combo and some prawn tempura. The pieces of sashimi were good sized and tasty, the prawn tempura was good, and the way they did the tuna and salmon rolls was different but definitely my favorite version of a tuna/salmon roll so far. This place has earned my coveted "not bad" rating. I've eaten a lot of Japanese food, and when I say "not bad," I mean that literally: the place is not bad. I have had my share of bad Japanese food, and bad Japanese food is naaaaasty. This place is not that. Mind you it is also not "one of the Lower Mainland's best sushi restaurants." To say this is to say "I haven't eaten a lot of Japanese food," because yes, it gets substantially better than this. The prize for the actually best sushi restaurants in the Lower Mainland would go to Aki Japanese Restaurant or Miku Restaurant, both of which are in Vancouver. Now that's some kick-ass Japanese food... Aki's barbecue black cod is out of this world, and their freshly-grilled unagi will make you wet your pants with delight and your tongue cry for mercy. Miku adds some nifty fusion elements to traditional Japanese food and you've got to sample their aburi sushi. Yum. Right. Back to Hamada. The fish is reasonably fresh and well-prepared although the sushi and sashimi portions can be a bit on the small side. They have a full menu of typical gaijin teriyaki dishes, donburi, soba and udon, with the usual selection of appetizers like agedashi tofu and gyoza. Their bento boxes are pretty good and will generally fill me up. The prices are reasonable and the staff are generally very nice. This is probably the best Japanese joint in Maple Ridge, and I'd encourage you to give it a try. read more

great tasting sushi at a reasonable price, with some unique dishes. we were very impressed with the food, but the atmosphere is more conducive to a casual meal rather than a night out, which is what we were after. that said, i will definitely eat here again - probably for lunches during the week. read more

Food was okay. Service was quite poor. It was 2pm and we were the only people in the restaurant. The server literally did not open her mouth once to speak to us. It was really uncomfortable. We've been there before and she will normally give you the bare minimum when talking to you but today..nothing. And she mixed up our order. I've been here several times over the past few years but only now taking the time to write my review. I really like the expansion they did to open up the restaurant and make more room. I always tend to order a bento box or similar items and am never disappointed. The staff are friendly and quick to get your order prepared. The sushi is good but the lady is the grumpiest lady I've ever met. You'd think since they shut down it's doors for dining in they would be kinder to their customers who pick up but - NOPE! I also asked if they could make sure my bento box had fresh rolls bc the last 2x the California roll was old and hard and instead of apologizing she rolled her eyes. I'd rather go to Shinobi sushi but can't since their closed for construction and unfortunately have to go to second rate places like this with grumpy old women. read more

It was the worst dinner experience ever, the rudest waiters ever, the slowest service despight the restaurent was empty. We have to chase the waiter to take our order and follow up and mixed up the service. We have asked them many times to get a glass of water and the waiter was mad that we drink too much water. The worst is that he grap his hair and put his hand in the ice and put it in the glass. When confronted him he said that we are lying and was very rude and confrontational. And on top of that they increased the prices 30% for the same plates which came late and wrong. I don't recommend anyone to go there even though we were a customer for 11 years. I believe the resturant changed owners and the new family has no clue about resturant business, so sad I can see with this attitute its going down pretty soon. read more

I have been going to hamada for the past couple years. It has changed hands a couple times. Every time that i have gone it is a hit or a miss. I dont usually eat sushi but if i do hamada isnt usually the first place that comes to mind. read more

I just love this place, the sushi is always fresh and tasty, it's reasonably priced, the lunch specials are great, nice and healthy, my son likes coming here as he loves sushi, but then again he had alwAys like sushi, I have been coming here for quote a few years now , although my favorite is an all you can eat sushi place because you always get to order what you want ans as much of it as you want but alas this is not an all you can eat sushi place but it's good for anal a carts type place, I really like tamagotchi by sushi here too, I'm a big fan of sushi tamagotchi ans RBI and they got that here, so if your in Lookin for great sushi at a reasonable price you shod swing down yo this wonderful location an pick up some ocvghd offerings here, good food good people good sushi, this place rocks my world and I would most certainly die should it ever close it's wonderful doors to a world of fantastically prepared sushi of the gods themselves....so go fuck yourself. read more

I would give this restaurant zero (0) star if I could, but one (1) is the least I can give. First, the service was just okay. We ordered the Japanese hand-pulled noodles and instead got instant noodles with egg drops. Also, the Sashimi I had was not fresh at all and very small in portion. The pork cutlet on my order of Katsu Don was too dry and there was no onion and egg. Instead they put some glass noodles mixed with rice and some pathetic sweet soy sauce on top. I have been eating Katsu Don for more than 25 years, never have one like that bad. Their Caterpillar Roll was small, smooshy and tasted unimpressed. Honestly, the Crispy Roll in Thrifty Supermarket down the street taste a lot better than theirs. Their portion for everything was small. We had to order more Udon noodles and rolls in order to just enough to share. We are definitely not going back....!! Beware of the five star review below. It has obviously been written by the owner/employee of the restaurant. I would recommend travelling a bit further into Coquitlam where there are a number of reasonable Japanese restaurants. read more

Used to eat here quite frequently. The last time, 3 of my family members got severe food poisoning. Attempted to contact staff regarding the issue and it took awhile for any kind of response. It seems customer service has declined over the years. After the food poisoning, will be looking elsewhere for sushi. read more

Hamada is my favourite sushi restaurant in maple ridge by far. Very affordable and very tasty. Friendly and fast service as well.

We have been loyal customers to Hamada for around 6 years, never go anywhere else for sushi. We always leave a great tip and clean up everything after ourselves so the stone can have an easier clean up. The place has gone so downhill regarding customer service. We used to be served by Gigi all the time and she was fabulous. Then a young man who was also great. Now it is a short, older woman who never smiles, takes forever to take our order, brings waters well after bringing menus (or when we eventually ask for them) and just makes us feel like she does not want us to be there at all. Me and my husband last went on Saturday June 22nd around 1pm with our 2 children. The short, older server didn't greet us with a smile or 'hello', as usual. We asked to sit in the booth we always sit in, right at the front of the restaurant and the server nodded her head. No words were spoken. We sat down and she gave us our menus and left. No waters. As usual. Another party of 4 came in 12 minutes later and we saw the server go into the back to fill up glasses of water. We assumed they were coming to us. She then took them to the party that had just arrived. So we stood up to leave. My husband said 'we are leaving because you left us for over 10 minutes with no service and didn't even bring us waters' the server stared at my husband and said 'well you are sat on the wrong side' she then continued to argue with my husband, infront of other customers until we left. The booth side was not blocked off and we were not told we couldn't sit there. We were so shocked and appalled that instead of an apology she decided to blame us (the paying and loyal customers). We will NEVER be back to Hamada and will be telling everyone and anyone we know about our TERRIBLE experience. Do NOT waste your money at this establishment! read more

Worst customer service ever. My first bad experience with them was a while back when the delivery driver lost half of the money I gave them (which included a generous tip) and harassed me saying I did not pay them. I paid it again just because it was the only sushi place that delivered. But this time they not only forgot an item I ordered but refused to bring it to me when I called them back to notify them they forgot it. Do yourself a favour and walk across the street to sushi tengu. The man I spoke to on the phone was extremely rude as well. I told them "you just lost two very loyal customers. And his response "bye" and hung up on me. Never again will I give them my money and you shouldn't either. read more

Good food at a decent price. I have been to Hamada three times now and am impressed with the quality of the food. I think they are probably the best sushi in Maple Ridge. There portions are huge. The restaurant is usually pretty quiet but they do a bustling business in pick ups. I would recommend Hamada and we will definitely be back. read more

My husband and I decided to try out Hamada as we had heard good things in regards to the quality of the food. We decided to give it a shot for one of our rare date-nights where we get to indulge in two of our favourite things: sushi, and beer. We checked online to make sure we made it well within the hours of operation (it states that they're open until 10pm Daily). We arrived at approximately 8:15pm. There were still some other patrons at a few tables, but over all it was wonderfully quiet. However, the service we received was in a word, completely DEPLORABLE. Never before have I experienced such cold, callous service. Our hostess was sweet when she seated us, but our actual server, an older woman, barely spoke. Our food order was asked within a mere couple minutes, but we were never asked if we wanted drinks; Remember, it was sushi AND beer we were after. We were WANTING to spend money in their establishment... We ordered the meal-combo for two, at $36 it looked to be a decent amount of food for the price. We were not disappointed in the food... however our miso and sunomono arrived within a minute of sitting down and telling our server what we wanted. Again, barely speaking. before we were even finished the tempura arrived (which she just plunked down inbetween us, almost with a thud)... so it was lukewarm by the time we started eating it because we wanted to finish our appetizers of sunomono and miso first. By the time we had finished the (lukewarm) tempura, the large sushi platter arrived; it was the only thing that was timed well in the layout of our meal. However, what happened next completely floored me: We were approached by the hostess and she asked us if we wanted to take our teriyaki portion home!! by this time, we had barely eaten HALF the sushi platter and the hubby and I were simply trying to enjoy our time out together... I felt like from the MOMENT we stepped in, they wanted us OUT of the restaraunt like we were COMPLETELY INCONVENIENCING THEM. "Oh, youre eating too slow and we want to clean up and close early, so take the rest of your meal and get the f**k out" was the vibe I got from the entire staff. By 8:30 (seriously, we were only there for 15 minutes) We left with half our sushi platter (which the waitress sneered at me when I asked her if she would be able to put it in a container for us)... when we got home and decided to eat our teriyaki... we found that the rice was INCREDIBLY dry, and tasted somewhat stale like it had been sitting for some time. that being said, the rice was the only disappointment in the quality of food... but the SERVICE is the reason the husband and I WONT be returning. We were completely rushed out deliberately and were NOT made to feel welcome whatsoever. read more

Yumm! This place has really good sushi. I like that their spicy tuna rolls come with the spicy sauce on top, instead of being mixed in with the tuna. Everything seems really fresh and tastes great! Service is good and the prices are more than reasonable. If you're looking for a treat after your meal, try the deep fried ice cream, which is surprisingly delicious! read more

I used to pick up sushi from this place all the time. I always order the same thing. I did so on my last visit here and ordered California rolls, cucumber rolls and chicken teriyaki. I got home and we were eating the California rolls when I noticed that they were missing the cucumber and avocado in them. I called to let them know and was informed that the chef did put these in the roll. I offered to bring the rolls back up so they could see that this was not the case and they agreed. I proceeded to go back up and showed them that the rolls were missing these items and was asked by one of the waitresses if I removed the cucumber from the roll. As there clearly were no spaces in the rolls from where the cucumber should be, I advised her that I had not and was offended that she would even ask that question. I requested my money back for these two rolls and will not go back there. Customer service this place is not. Not that clean either. read more
