My wife and I went to grab some ramen before catching a movie and decided on Hamaru! We were greeted instantly upon walking in and were allowed to sit where we pleased! We both enjoyed our ramen, I just wished it was a tad bit spicier! We enjoyed the shrimp tempura and Japanese friend chicken (spicy ' regular), both of which were very tasty! I was thrown off by how dark the shrimp tempura looked, but after tasting it with the accompanying sauce, I realized the chefs knew what they were doing. My wife had a California roll that she enjoyed, and I couldn't have asked for a better dining experience. Finally, there's a decent ramen place in Killeen! My husband and I were intrigued when we saw this restaurant being built, and I'm happy to say that the food was worth the wait. They serve all the beloved appetizers, such as Chicken Karaage and Takoyaki. We've tried each of the ramen broth flavors, and my favorite is the Shoyu with an extra egg. They also offer delicious refresher drinks, which I enjoy while my husband explores their beer selection. The interior is small but accommodating. In addition to K-pop music videos playing on the TVs, the decor features plenty of faux flowers and lanterns. I was looking for places to eat in Killeen with not much hope until I came across a supposed, new Japanese restaurant with an interesting picture of a four-roll combo that caught my attention. Recently, coming from Hawaii, I know I probably should not have been seeking this place out as I came from a place that had really good sushi in really good Japanese food, and my expectations were probably too high in terms of taste. However, there were not many choices, so I decided to get this place a try as it was close to an HEB (first time going to that store). Upon entering the restaurant, you are greeted by audible Japanese and mixed club dance music. The ambiance has a lot to offer in terms of decor There were two waiters and the one I got assigned to rubbed me the wrong way. First of all, it took ten minutes to get water and another five minutes for my order to be taken. The waiter obviously seemed like I was a bother, or he just did not want to be there. Service was a bit slow given the fact that it was not very busy. The waiter also did not check in with me unlike the tables around me. I decided to order the four roll combo with spicy tuna x 2, salmon, and shrimp tempura. The rolls came with a miso soup, which you have to ask for or it may be glossed over. Additional refills are $2.99. The rolls came out to about $29. The rolls were lined up on a plate with an unusual, but interesting presentation. I was not given plates, ginger, or wasabi. Was this a Japanese place, or was I lost? The presentation was nice, but looked better than it was. It was difficult to eat, given that all the pieces were too stuck together. Spicy tuna was good in terms of taste and had a nice kick. The salmon tasted fresh and had a nice acidic touch to it. Shrimp tempura was okay. In the end, I don't think I'll come back here. Food was not bad, but service definitely was. read more

Meh at best. Had a small order to give the place a try. We shared an Oder of Karaagae chicken based on a previous review raving about it. Also on order of dumplings. The chicken was bland and frankly boring. I liked the bed of plain white rice that the chicken was sitting on more than the chicken itself. The dumplings were ok, but I prefer the flavor and texture of the frozen varieties available at the grocery store. I'll give it another try sometime to check out their Ramen. read more

Hidden gem. Place doesn't look like much from the outside but this place has the best ramen in the area. Sushi is not great but average. Small sitting area but most traditional ramen restaurants are small. Service is really good, we found a hair in the sushi and the staff quickly offered to redo the order. We declined and they removed it from our bill and also gave me a complimentary fusion green tea drink when we left. Would recommend this spot for a casual low cost Asian cuisine dining experience. We did appetizers of edamame and Takoyaki (octopus fried balls) nicely seasoned, not overly fried!!! Then we ordered the spicy tube sushi roll. This one had a good tingly kick of spice to it, a little too much for me. My husband had the Tonkotsu Ramen extra spicy. It was very fresh, 9 out of 10 on the flavor and texture. He wanted it way spicer (sorry he's a spicy kinda person) I ordered the unagi bowl. Came with three pieces of lightly cooked eel over steamed rice! ABSOLUTELY delicious, the unagi just melted in my mouth!!!! Then we had the Yuzu Lemonade.... Yum!!! Again cute little spot for a date night, or somewhere not overly crowded to eat!!!! I got food poisoning and went to the hospital and felt very awful with throwing up constantly and constant diarrhea. I know this seems bad but I want the owner to make sure all food temps are safe to eat for customers and no cross contamination. It's barely 7 am, OCT 21st and getting released from the hospital. Tried this place out with my wife, nephew and an out of town guest on Saturday, 24 August. Our guest had never had ramen so my nephew ordered for her. Immediately after the food was served, we started digging in to try it all out. Sadly after two bites and asking what the various ingredients were, she pulled out some plastic wrapper that was mixed into her ramen. We called the young waitress to inform her there was plastic wrapping cooked into the meal. Rather than being apologetic or taking the meal away to show the cook what he had done, she asked, "do you want any to still eat the ramen?" Understanding she was young, but, are you kidding me??? Would anyone want to pull a wad of plastic wrapping from their soup and continue eating a $15 bowel of ramen??!!! After mentioning this to another friend, they told us they had eaten there and ordered two ramen meals; one with everything, and the other with select add-ons. When they served the meal, the guy said that he requested no seaweed or mushrooms with his order. The server took the bowl away and said she would be right back. She did return a minute later with a bowl of ramen. He asked if it was the same thing he ordered and waited 15 minutes for. Her reply was, "yes, it is the same thing you ordered... we just picked out the seaweed and mushrooms." Again, you decide what you want to spend your hard earned money on when you dime out, but I will never eat here again, nor will I recommend this restaurant to anyone else!!! Happy dining! read more
