The music was blasting and it was rather dark inside with an interesting crowd. There is a chill vibe here with a small bar area that caters to just a few locals who brought their dogs and even their babies. I could tell that everyone knew each other. When I ordered, Colin tried to upsell me on some chicken nuggets in addition to the burger and fries that I requested. He was a cool guy, but that was a first for me in a burger joint as a native San Diego. Then, I asked for the meal to be packaged to go, and we had some discussion about it, so I was surprised when it was delivered on a tray for here. I got the sense that business was slow here, and that he was trying to bring in some more business. Now for the food... The Classic Hut Burger was more like a smashburger (1/4"), which was a dissapointment. If I would have known that the burger patty would be so small, then I would have ordered the double burger. The fries were similar to shoestring fries, and they were a bit over salted for my taste. Overall, the food was good, but nothing special... This was a one-time visit, but I'm sure if I lived in Encinitas, then I would stop by for a beer and those chicken nuggets that they raved about. I've been wanting to stop by and try this place, so I finally did. It was not busy so I ordered right away, for the first timers like me, you order at the outside window before walking in to find a table. The aesthetic of the restaurant is great! Loved the vibe. They have a bar area as well so you could just walk in, sit at the bar and order there. It's a lot bigger than I expected it to be. They have seating area in the back patio as well with fire pits, so big groups of people can definitely enjoy eating here. The service was great and the restaurant is clean and has clean bathrooms. Driving down the coast and we spotted HH on the side of the road. So glad we stopped. It looks like a little shack from the road, very deceiving. You walk up to the little window place your order and walk inside or outside to the back patio to wait for your food. Last Sunday we headed up to Lou's records to do some Christmas shopping. Afterwards we realized we missed lunch and were starving. From what looks like a small unremarkable burger joint from outside, Hamburger Hut is full of surprises. The restaurant has a small bar with variety of craft cocktails and small yet mighty menu. I appreciate cute and unexpected ambience and expresso (tequila) martini, but I wish there was at least a chicken option on the menu. Prior to visiting, I found a copy of the menu on Google review, saw chicken option and was excited to try it out. After we arrived, parked and got to the restaurant we were informed that chicken option was removed months ago. I also didn't like the fact that you have to get 2 drinks. Why can't they just sell you one for half the price during happy hour? We waited about a good 20 mins or so for our food. I usually don't mind the wait if the food is going to come out hot and fresh. To my disappointment, the food was not hot. It seemed like it had been made and sitting there for some time before being brought out to us. Not to mention, the woman taking orders who also brought our food was quite rude. When she was taking our orders I thought she couldn't hear well because the music was loud and there were cars driving by but NO she was just being condescending and rude, that's just her normal attitude I guess. She was handing out our orders and saying the wrong things so when my husband asked where his specific order was she was snappy(when she had said his order was something else-all good people make mistakes but no need to be RUDE). Hubs wanted to try this place for lunch while we were in Encinitas. This is located off of Coast Highway, between Leucadia Boulevard and Orpheus Avenue. More specifically, between Cadmus Street and Basil Street (right next to Basil). There's no parking lot (don't park in the lot across Basil as there's a "no parking" sign, and is reserved for the residents), just limited street parking. We were lucky that someone was leaving on Basil right when we pulled into the street, so was able to park right away. It was a Saturday in March around 1:45pm. The inside looked maybe half full?The restaurant is like a small beach house (I believe it's an actually renovated beach house), and customers order at the front window first. We ordered the single hut ($9.99), double hut ($11.99), fries ($3.99), Jabba fries ($12.99), and some fountain drinks ($2.99ea). Since it was a nice day, we decided to sit in the patio/backyard. There were a lot of people with their dogs so my kiddo and I were going crazy (ohhh howww cuuute!!). Our order took a long time though. There were people still waiting for their food when we sat down, and by the time we thought that we'd get ours, their food came out. When it finally did arrive, we were kind of disappointed. The burger was okay, patty well done and nothing out of the ordinary. The fries were waaay over-fried. That included the Jabba fries...couldn't even stab them with a fork. There was a full beef patty on top (basically a hamburger with the buns switched out for fries), but couldn't cut it with a fork since it was well done so between that and the hard fries, talk about laborious (they look okay in the pics, but they were hard). Also, the patio bathroom was out of service so I had to use the one inside, but there's only one women's and one men's, and someone was already in the women's and taking a loooooong time (seriously, this other lady and I and were waiting for 15 minutes). They have two kids under the age of 3. And at 6pm this place did not feel family welcoming with how loud the music was. The loud music plus dim lighting was incredibly overstimulating and didn't feel like a place we should be with kids. Felt more like a club/bar. We could hardly have a conversation. Hurray for Hamburger Hut. It's a simple place that only has a few things on the menu but has a full bar. You either approach the outside window and order, then find a seat or sit at the bar. It didn't quite seem that big, but they weren't small either, and very good otherwise. We went to the front to order one more burger to add to the order and they refused to try and help. They would not add the one additional burger to our current order. After waiting long enough, everyone had enough so we just left. We asked for a refund for the one burger after having spent over 400 dollars on all of the other food but were met with strong resistance. We tried to discuss our situation with the manager, but she was no help. We spent over 400 dollars that night and we wanted a refund for a burger that was 12 dollars. It wasn't even about the 12 dollars at that point. We come to this place frequently, approximately 3-4 times a month. We will no longer come back to this place and will tell all of our friends not to go either.
