This is my regular restaurant, but it feels like the portions keep getting smaller every time I come. It's gotten to the point where, after finishing both an appetizer and a main course, I leave and go eat at the pizza place next door, which, by the way, is absolutely delicious. The food here is genuinely high quality, fresh, delicious, and beautifully presented, but unfortunately the portions are just too small, not filling at all, and expensive for what you get. I even met another couple who ended up going for pizza afterward too, so clearly I'm not the only one feeling this way. Sadly, I won't be coming back anymore. I wish my dining experience and review was much more positive. Waverly offers a great, summery, aesthetic vibe with a lovely ocean breeze throughout the restaurant. This is the third time my girlfriend(s) and I have dined at the bar at Waverly in recent months. Each time we've arrived the female bartender (Karen) has been beyond unfriendly and seemingly couldn't smile to save her life. Initially, we just thought everyone has a bad day. Third time and same experience, not so much. I struggle to say this, however, she smiles and chats with men but with women, she has a completely different persona. Then as it's time for her tip, she musters up a smile. In addition, the food is always delicious as are their cocktails. At $19 and $22, one would think you would get more than three sips from your craft cocktail. It's completely filled with ice cubes and about an inch short on the pour, each and every time. Awesome. Came for Mother's Day (with reservation) and it was great all around. It's coastal, cool, breezy, a little upscale but not snooty, chill. Good food and strong drinks. Yours truly had a Bodega Boy; mezcal cocktail with sort of a horchata vibe. I also had the double double burger and it was delicious, perfectly cooked and amply portioned. Came here for breakfast on the Fourth of July for the first time. I loved it! The vibe is chill and beachy while being modern at the same time. Our server, Zach was great as well as the rest of the staff. The food was delicious. We will definitely come here again. What a cute little restaurant & bar! My husband and daughter treated me for Mother's Day lunch and what a great time. The decor and ambiance really made the lunch enjoyable and relaxing. But let's talk about the food. I had the Baja Rice Bowl and it was than I expected from a grain bowl. Ingredients were fresh, perfect portions, and not overdone. The shrimp added great texture and was definitely needed. For a beverage, I went with the Bodega Boy. Even with mezcal being smoky in nature, the lime and mango really made it refreshing. For my dessert, the butterscotch pudding was a must have. It wasn't what I was expecting but what much better. It was decadent and if I could, I would have ordered probably 2 more. Just a heads up, there is a time limit for parking in the shopping center (can't remember if it's 1.5 hours or 2 hours), but was plenty of time to grab lunch and a beer next door. read more

Stopped by this place on a whim! Was a really good choice for a casual but nice dinner on a Wednesday. Very friendly staff--Zach or Zack (unsure of his spelling) was great!!! He took care of us. The orange wine was funky, just how I like it. The cocktails were not too strong, and very flavorful and refreshing. Apps especially the ceviche (not pictured) were unique, light, and so tasty. The braised beef dish was so tender. The Cesar salad was good, and the fluffy big baked croutons w/cheese inside was unique but a little too rich for my taste. No complaints. Their HH burger, fries for $8 is so good. The bar area is great, the decor is nice and the place is open. They have nice salads and a robust bar. The ambiance at Waverly is unmatched. It's very laid back and makes me feel like I'm on vacation. We have always done walk in and usually get seated even though we do not have a reservation. Come early though (before 11AM)! For brunch I ended up ordering the grilled ham and cheese sandwich. It has a sunny side eye on top along with prosciutto and creamy Gruyère cheese sauce. Looks like an art piece! Super yummy and decently priced. Service is tentative and waitress was super friendly and enjoyed our conversation. Had a great brunch experience here! The food here is great and the vibe is even better. Love the laidback feel and was very surprised that they had a DJ playing live. SHAKSHOUKA * 18 This was super yummy. They use San Marzano tomatoes, which are the best tomatoes for any type of tomato sauces (not to mention marinara). The poached egg on top was also cooked perfectly, and the sourdough bread was the right balance of crispy and chewy. CREME BRULEE FRENCH TOAST * 16 This was better than I expected. Not sure what I was imagining for a creme brulee french toast, but they really captured the creme brulee flavor and texture. The french toast did't come with syrup, so if you're big on that, this might not be one for you. The sweetness was perfect in my opinion, and the fruits were very fresh. BREAKFAST RICE BOWL * 18 My friend got this one, so I can't quite speak for him, but he seemed to really enjoy it. The scrambled eggs looked fluffy and the greens looked fresh. Great macro options if you're looking to not crash after brunch. DARK HORSE * 19 This was a great drink! Well mixed and the flavors were good, I'm not surprised that it's a staple on the drinks menu (they have seasonal cocktails). My friend who comes here often recommended it and I agree with him. I would definitely get this again. THE WAVERLY * 19 If you're a gin fan, this is a great option. Another staple on their cocktail menu. Gin isn't my go-to, but I decided to give this a try, seeing that it was at the top of the menu. I'm glad I did because it was good. The service was great here, even though it's quite busy on weekends. I think it would be best to make a reservation and arrive early since parking can be an issue. The decor inside is very nice and the booth seats are super comfy. Truly great spot. I don't normally write reviews but after a really long day I needed a good experience and this place did it. The staff made us feel so calm, welcome and accommodated (Bella at the front and Rachel the manager). Luckily, they were able to fit my wife and I on a Saturday last minute. The food was delicious (get the ribeye and burrata donuts). Good vibe too, my wife insists I mention the stylish decor. Service top notch. Very cute brunch spot. I loved the decor and the ambiance. They even had a live DJ! There were plenty of food options, including classic brunch items, rice bowls, and unique food dishes as well. It was very packed in the restaurant, so unfortunately service was a bit slow and it was hard to flag somebody down for water refills as the glass was very small. I tried the baja rice bowls. I liked how healthy it tasted, but it was lacking in flavor as there was barely any sauce. Wish I got one of the sandwiches or burgers as those looked tasty. Great spot to come and enjoy! My pup and I came here for our last lunch in Encinitas and it was PERFECT! I had no idea that they had a pup menu so that worked out perfectly! The vibe outside is like an up-leveled chill spot. The weather was perfect and there was lots going on to watch. Not too many flys around which was a plus as well. The staff were super friendly and attentive to what my pup and I both needed. Of course I ordered the surf and turf for my lil Lilikoi and she LOVED IT. It was a half beef patty and a filet of salmon and they both were generous sizes. I ordered the spa day mocktail which was delicious and the filet o fish which I truly enjoyed as well. Just stopped in for a relaxing Sunday night meal on Super Bowl Sunday and it was pleasantly spacious and relaxed with some old-school R&B playing while the sun was setting. That alone is worth a review. But then we dive into the trout ceviche with shrimp chips that are fantastic, and all the flavors are lined up and perfect. I took my friend out here on a Monday night to celebrate a special occasion! I've seen this place on social media so I was glad we got a reservation. Parking is 2 hours in the lot but I didn't have any issues with finding a spot or worrying I was gonna get towed. Very cute and clean restaurant, good beach ambiance. We were seated on the patio, which was fine but you're right next to the parking lot lol so it's not the best view looking out. Service was alright, they didn't check on us often but they weren't rude. We ordered the spicy tuna tacos, lamb dan dan noodles, and shrimp bang bang. A good amount of food for 2 people! A beautiful interior designed restaurant with plenty of patio seating. My friend made reservations for three in the main dining room which includes the patio and indoor area. We preferred indoor seating and the hostess seated us indoor after some adjustments. I ordered the fish filet sandwich. It had brioche buns, tartar sauce, fried fish filets, and fries. The inside is beautiful and they also have patio seating; however, this restaurant is located inside of a shopping center so this is by no means a private patio but a good spot to sit if you want an easy, fresh air vibe. For food, I have to say.. this isn't an Italian place specifically but their pasta is even better than a lot of my favorite Italian restaurants. Recently I've been ordering the agnolotti on repeat, which is house made with a perfect chew to the ricotta filled pasta paired with an amazing sauce. Love their happy hour options as well, one of my favorites is the pickled purple potatoes with creme fraiche... I was dreaming about these for a while after first trying them! Came back for dinner and had the best experience. As expected the drinks were amazing, and would recommend dinner over breakfast hands down. There is a lot more creativity in the dinner dishes and flavor than experienced at breakfast. We had the cavatelli pasta, "ceviche", and caesar salad. Each was unique and delicious. Our server Ramon was constantly checking up on us to make sure we had everything we needed. He was so kind and welcoming which made the experience even better. We had dinner at Waverly with friends last night. This restaurant has an open and contemporary design. We had reservations and I'm glad we did. It was a hopping and busy place for a Wednesday. I was pleasantly surprised that they have live music on Wednesday nights. It was a nice touch but loud and made it difficult for our party of 4 to communicate with each other. The waverly has a positive energy and the staff is well trained and were attentive and friendly, even though we paced our dinner out to around 2.5-3 hours catching up with our friends. Most busy restaurants would say something. I was pleased the staff continued to pour our wine and water glasses, as graciously as when we started our evening. Cocktails: I had the Kona Old Fashioned (5/5) and my buddy had a green cocktail that he enjoyed, but I can't remember the name. The Waverly has some very inventive and unique cocktails. Food: we started with sharing the Caesar salad (7/5) and the blistered shishito peppers (5/5). Both were very good. The Caesar salad was huge and I was glad all 4 were sharing. It had these unique and delicious custom croutons that are a 1.5 inch toasted cube of French bread filled with a garlicky cream. Such a great spin to a normal Caesar. My wife had the braised beef rioja (5/5) and I had the grilled pork chop with an apple cider glaze (3.5/5). The pork chop had more sweetness than I prefer. My wife loved this very savory braised beef dish served over very smooth mashed potatoes. I regret not choosing the beef rioja. Overall we had a good experience at Waverly, albeit loud with the live music. I can see why this is our Cardiff friends go to restaurant. read more

2-4 stars. This place has been on my list for a while now and on Saturday I got the opportunity to try it out. Seems like making reservations is the way to go for this spot because we were there before noon and apparently all the interior seating was already reserved. They said they could sit us out front at the patio, but they had another reservation coming at 11:45am. We assured them we'd be done by then, even though I'm a slow eater. The host and server were really friendly and kind. Their service was fast and thoughtful! I thought it was interesting how their menu was a mix of healthy and recreations of popular fast food items. Although the prices were insanely high. It's honestly so wild. They had a Daytime Menu (11am-3pm) and another menu which had their yogurt bowls, French toasts, etc on it. I went with their $19 Filet O Fish from their 11am-3pm menu. I wasn't sure if I'd like it because I've never had local rockfish before. Honestly I didn't like this fish at first, but once I lathered more of the tartar sauce on it I enjoyed it. It also contained lettuce and American cheese. The breading of the filet o fish was crispy, light, and herby. It was pretty tasty! It came with a side of fries that were on the well done side. They put the ketchup in a little jam jar that was quite difficult to dip into. The server came out with a easy to dip bowl of ketchup, which was really kind of her since I didn't mention anything about it. Overall, idk if this is worth $19 for, but it was not bad. My aunt had their $17 Ancient Grain Bowl, this contained avocado, farm egg, cremini mushrooms, Kale, tomatoes, harissa yogurt, and feta. Honestly it was a small portion, but plated beautifully. They gave two poached eggs on top. My aunt said the harissa yogurt was the star of the bowl. She also got herself a $12 glass-- which was tiny, as small as my fist. It had diff veggies, peppercorn, etc. Not for me. Even though it was a "superfood" juiced item, I don't agree with the price for the quantity given. The Waverly is a cute spot but their prices are absurd. They even had a menu for dogs and a simple pb, banana, and yogurt pupsicle was $9! The prices were between $9-15, for a DOG. It may be a spot that others enjoy spending their money at, but it's not for me. read more
