I am surprised that this place has three stars in general. I am ready to explain my experience, and even though it had bumps, I am ready to overwhelm the shade tossed to this place with pure glow: This place gave me the least worst experience I ever had while visiting a dental office. Although I have had other good dentist appointments, this one was kind of quick and painless. This sentence in itself is a moment of substantial praise, because dentist visits are known, at least by me, as a chore that pricks--like going to the DMV is known to be a chore that exhausts by wait and by reminding us that our soul and life can be boxed into a number to be called. I say the above because I learned to hate the dentist when I was young. I never really practiced dental hygiene as I should, so going to the dentist meant having extensive work done, and being shamed for not doing better. With people knowing to be kinder by training, I got kinder reminders, and was motivated to do better, for myself, which worked. I went to this dentist, it was a new experience and I had a Tiff--- not like a small but noteworthy conflict with the crew of this place, rather, the hygienist who took care of me, was named Tiffany. I got there right on time. I live close. Parking is still an issue. I had to find street parking and walk to the office. Do not count on parking in their office lot. Not only is it scarce, they are located in a busy street, if not "the" busy street, of San Pedro. So that alone is a bit of tax on the nerves. I was escorted immediately to my chair, I was seen immediately by Tiffany, who was kind, patient, and explained to me the process I was to endure in the name of a healthy smile. As the process continued, she reminded me of next steps, we did a deep cleaning, she said-- a lot of bacteria came out, but she pivots to say, which is good, cause we get to clean it. Now we do the polish. Now we do the irrigation. She asked multiple times throughout the process if I was ok. She was ready to give me more gum numbing. injections-- those were the worst part. She cleaned my teeth, and i did not feel pain or shame. Those are the type of dental workers I needed all my life to understand that the best I can do, is go to the dentist regularly and do my best to kept them healthy. I think this is best stated by a Japanese proverb---- the best day to plant a tree is 20 years ago, the second best day is today. Meaning I did not take care of my teeth before like I should, but I can now, and I have support that is hopefully effective, but for now is kind and inviting. I used care credit. Did not have the card to give. The office staff made me feel like I needed the expiration date. I called care credit they ensured that I did not. I called you all and you did not tell me sooner, in fact you confirmed that only needed the number. I said all this to them, after my gums had been numbed. I was slurring my words, and sounding like one does when their mouth is numb. They figured it out and the work was done. I just wish I would have not had gone through that but I understand office have follies, and people say stuff with out being fully informed. But remember I was already in the chair, I was already mouth, and they had this conversation with me during these moments, I imagined having to leave because of the absence of the expiration date. They also asked to see my ID when I was in the chair. But that really just adds charm to the story, a bleep in the experience. The work was still done, and I left like wow this was a dentist appointment---- it was actually way better than I expected! And who does not love that experience! read more

Horrible Dr. I am paying prices of what he did to my teeth after a few years. So many people have done aesthetics works in their mouth but he did a horrible job on mine and my teeth look like horse. Don't even step inside. I went to so many dentist because his work failed and got so many problems underneath and once I went back to him with pain, he could not diagnose that I had root canal underneath the crown that he did for me, instead he asked me to pay for cleaning and other work. I left home with pain and he gave me a mouthwash. I went to a different dentist and a different dentist immediately told me I need a root canal underneath the crown. No knowledge...... also the crowns that he put for me were not tight because sometimes I heard a clicking sound. Many asked me who did I go to and who did such a horrible job. I will never get service done in this place again. Even though some of the staff was nice the provided service suck. I was over charged after I was given a certain quote and was told well is a larger liner on top of having to comeback twice to repair something that should had been done right the first time. The crown was done incorrectly and was not the right shape which caused me to have issues with the tooth next to it that they supposedly repaired and had to go back just for them wanting to charge me again. And after all that I still got an infection and had to get an emergency root canal and pay more money for something he should had fix In the first place. I am so grateful I was able to find another dentist who was able to repair the horrible job by this Dentis. Never again will I step a foot in this place or recommend anyone to it. read more

Now understand this review is coming from someone who is terrified of dentists, so scared my teeth went bad before i was 50. I had gone to the office on seventh here in pedro but that lady i swear is commiting fraud by padding your bill as well as the fact as shes unprofessional and rude. So my wife suggested this office. As usual i was terrified and scared, wanted to not go or reschedule, but my wife convinced me to give it a shot and face my fears. Man was I impressed. The front office people, thier professional and smart and best of all they actually care if your afraid and do thier best to reassure you. They just do what the doc wants and the insurance/appt ladies are really cool and accommodating. (Just to state i go see the doc thats there on Wednesdays), Im sorry guys im bad with names. So the front right off at the POC is awsome. Now the girls who help out (and the guy) i guess the dental assistants? AGAIN i was blown away by the utter empathy and caring they show, now i had to go get DENTURES with extractions a root canal and the works all usually brought to you by this medical house of pain, but thats just it, of course it hurts but they go out of thier way to make you comfortable and happy, I have NEVER been to a dentist like this and even tho i have false teeth now that are comfortable and look great, btu ill always go there for any dental needs as well as my whole family. My doctor is really nice and gets business done, all you gotta do is open wide and be still. Hes patient with me and my fears and get this the assistant even wiped my face off and got the alginate out of my beard gently for me. THATS QUALITY CARE, not to flood these guys and make them work alot, but if you have dental needs PLEASE come see them here, you will NOT be dissatisfied at it. This guy is a scam and dirty the dentist tried to scam me saying my insurance won't cover for what I needed Done I said how are you going to do a cleaning of my teeth and ex rays and then try and charge me almost 1,000 I called the back of my insurance card and he never even sent the request and they did cover it won't be coming back here that's for sure! But it all work out for the better found a way better dentist that's way nicer and actually honest!.... I only go to this dentist office because it's the only one in San Pedro that accepts my dental insurance. I'm fairly new - been there twice. It's in the sketchier & busier area of San Pedro, which always makes me kind of nervous. Parking lot is really small and difficult to turn into coming from the north so I park on the street. The one thing that is a huge turn off to me about this office is the smell. Even my husband who doesn't have as sensitive as a nose as me thought it smelled disgusting - kind of like the sewage masked by heavy chemicals. The receptionists are nice and pretty helpful. Maybe it's just because I love my old dentist/hygienist from my old town, but my cleaning was extremely quick and didn't feel very thorough. They used this powered water pick thing, which is something I've never experienced before. It was very uncomfortable. Both times the actual dentist only inspected my teeth for less than a minute! When I asked him about frequent canker sores in one area, he told me that it was related to trauma and bad dreams. Seriously! The only plus side is that you get quite a nice goody bag at the end of your visit - toothbrush, toothpaste, brush cover, floss, and some coupons. Would I recommend this place? Absolutely not. I'm just forced to go there for now due to my insurance. read more

Hygienist = 2 stars Office = 3 stars Office Staff = 4 stars I'm a new patient and I went in for a standard cleaning. Making an appointment was a breeze and it's lovely office space. I was seen within a few minutes of my scheduled appointment so things started off well. Too bad they went a bit downhill from there. The hygienist I caw is not a native English speaker and I found him difficult to understand. He also couldn't seem to grasp how to pronounce my name and kept calling me Jenny. I think I received an OK cleaning, but he was one of those clueless people who just don't pay attention to the small things like if they're strangling you with a cord or whatnot. The xray process was a bit painful because he yanked the films out of my mouth instead of removing them gently. The meeting with the dentist was so brief that I don't have much of an impression of him. On my way out they assured me that I'd receive a reminder phone call to book another cleaning in 6 months and I was given a little goody bag with a toothbrush, sample toothpaste and a toothbrush cover. I dread going to the dentist.. Who doesn't?? I was past due for a visit when a friend referred me to this office. She assured me I would be well taken care of and I was! From the moment I walked in the staff greeted me with a smile, they were extremely calming as I was extremely nervous. My wait was very short and the dentist was so professional I immediately felt at ease. Before I knew it my fillings were done, my mouth felt cleaner than ever and my fear of going to the dentist had been overcome!! Thank you!!!! He is very, i mean like he hates his job his in and out of different offices comes in doesn't explain anything or tells you jack. First time at this dentist and I had the worst experience of my life, front desk was okay they greeted me and called me in like in 30 mins. They took a full X-ray of my teeth and when it comes down to the deep cleaning, the assistant cleaning my teeth was soo harsh, she wasn't even trying to be gentle. She literally made me bleed, she kept on picking hard on my gums and I felt like she was drilling into my teeth. NEVER HAVE I EVER BLEED WHILE THEY'RE DEEP CLEANING MY TEETH. After that she stopped and told me that my teeth were really sensitive and later on she called the dentist to tell me that I'm going to have to reschedule for another day for deep cleaning and having to numb me because they need to go on their lunch!!!??? What kind of service is this, if I could put less than 1 star I would. read more

Dr Cohen is an excellent dentist. His staff is excellent starting with the front office to the back. I would highly recommend him to all my friends and family. DO NOT GO HERE!!!! My son had to get a cavity filled and in the process he raptured the nerve and just covered it!!! My son ended up having to get his tooth pulled when he simply could've taken his time and actually did his job right the first time. I had to get a tooth pulled and he cracked my jaw bone and left a broken piece in. It wasn't until I was 70% healed that my wife had to pull the broken piece out cause I was in so much pain! I called the dentist office back and they told me there was nothing they could do( WOW!!!!). When I was able to finally go back, mind you I was healing still from my tooth being taking out, not able to fully open my mouth, he's yanking and pulling and being very aggressive. To make matters worse he was using his bare hands, putting his fingers in my mouth, reeking of cigarette smoke. Smh I will never go back here!! read more

The curb appeal of the office leaves something to be desired. In fact, it's a little 3rd worldy. But the interior is very nice. The equipment looks clean and new. The staff has always been courteous and focused the several visits that I've experienced here. Dr. Cohen is a man of few words. I don't think that he has even introduced himself. But I don't mind. All I want is a dentist who is prompt, professional and doesn't try to nickel and dime me with various non-covered services. This is the same guy as Hamid Cohen. I am not sure why he goes by 2 names. We will not be going back there, we will find a new dentist. Short answer: This guy is just out to make money and is all about "image." He runs his practice like a factory. Our experience with a simple teeth cleaning: my husband and I were run through several stations like an assembly line where several masked, unknown staffers, indifferently cleaned our teeth. It was a very dehumanizing and disorienting experience. When I finally did see the actual dentist, he seemed arrogant and made me feel stupid. The office staff was callous. I purchased a mouth guard because I grind my teeth at night, and I tried it on in the office to make sure it fit properly. Then I couldn't get it off, it got really stuck on my teeth. I was afraid that I would chip a tooth or something trying to pry it off. The 2 office staffers thought that I was SO funny. At first I laughed too, but after a few moments I got worried because the thing was really stuck. They laughed and laughed and showed absolutely no concern about it. I did finally manage to pry the thing off, and the office staff were still laughing away when I left, not once did they stop to ask if I was okay. read more

Let's be honest...The Dentist is not the most desired place to be on your average afternoon. However, if you are looking for an inviting staff, professional dental experience, and great service to at least minimize the dread of going to "the dentist," then I highly recommend Dr. Cohen. Dr. Hamid Cohen is MY FAVORITE and the BEST DENTIST I'VE EVER HAD! I normally don't like going to the dentist, but Dr. Cohen makes the experience a whole lot better. He is very, very friendly and converses with you, so that you feel comfortable the entire time. He goes above and beyond, and you can definitely tell he is passionate and loves his job. I was very disappointed with this dentist office. There is a television in every room and the staff were more interested in watching television than paying attention to their patients. Worst experience with a medical professional. The staff there is very professional, but I could not believe that the man who approached me was the doctor. He did not introduce himself, his shirt was not buttoned properly and he had dirt under all of his fingernails! I was there because of an emergency tooth pain. He stuck his dirty pointer finger need the side of my mouth (Yes, no gloves) and announced that I needed a cleaning. I asked for a cleaning, and he said he could not do it with my 16 month old daughter in her stroller next to me. He actually seemed disgusted that I had brought my daughter for an emergency dental appointment. I said I could move her, but he said I would need x-rays. I said that was fine. They had already taken one, and they could take more. Then it became clear that he was refusing to serve me because I had my baby with me. He actually asked why I did not have child care! In short, he is a disgusting, rude and unprofessional man. read more
